Love this place. Initially, I was hesitant to buy plants from Aqua Lab Aquaria since I was so used to the usual places around the Bay Area that I frequent. On first glance the prices were OK, some well-priced, but some items didn't seem the cheapest out there. However, I can say it's well worth it after experiencing their outstanding customer support. For my order, I tried their ground shipping as it's a bit of a drive for me to reach them. My order came in fast - within 48 hours of ordering. Big plus and that tells me they're on top of their order processing. Unfortunately, my heart sank when I opened the package. The plant culture that I was really excited about came in all messed up. It was all slimy, sloshed around and indistinguishable. It was definitely well-packaged and even had multiple stickers saying "This side up". Whether it was because of that brand's quality in particular, sloppy USPS delivery, or whatever - it was completely different than the pictures on their website. I sent over an e-mail with pictures to show my dissatisfaction with little hopes of reaching a good resolution, as I've experienced with other stores in the Bay Area. This may even have to go through the Paypal resolutions team, I thought. The next morning, I received two e-mails from ALA and what I read shocked me. In the first e-mail, ALA actually sided with me and apologized for having sent the poor plant culture. They assured me that this was unacceptable to them and that they would send out another culture right away. The second e-mail was the shipping confirmation and tracking info of the culture already ready for USPS pickup. The new plant culture was subsequently received next day at 9AM in the morning and is in perfect condition. From total frustration to complete satisfaction, I am really surprised by the outstanding customer service from ALA as it's difficult to find these days. I'm also really glad that such a place exists locally. I've been too used to below par service from some local fish stores, who have outright ignored my e-mails when issues arise, that I didn't expect this kind of customer care. Hope management continues this trend and I look forward to being a long-time customer of ALA.

Aqua Lab is an amazing store for aquascaping supplies, tools, plants, and equipment. I went there with my 9 year old godson Alex and his father to aquascape Alex’s low tech tank, pictures attached in early February. The store gave us lots of inspiration with their display tanks, the staff was able to give us lots of information, and answer our questions. There was a large variety of plants for us to choose from that other stores just don’t have. We purchased 6 different plants, 2 Wabi-Sabi stones, Kakako wood, and Manzanita wood for the aquascape. We also purchased Ultum Nature System all in one plant food fertilizer, kH test, and a gH test. Two months later the tank is thriving after some initial algae outbreaks and one plant death, which is due more to my thumb then anything else. We didn’t change any equipment, and our tank is low tech, simple filter, heater, 10 gallons, Dwarf African Frogs, Neon Tetras, and snails. The frogs love the Nymphoides Hydrophylla ‘Taiwan’ which we haven’t seen available else where. My godson Alex could not be happier or more proud of his tank and the advice and information we got from Aqua Lab, let alone that everything was available in one place for us to purchase has made this tank possible. 1st picture is of Alex’s tank before Aqua Lab 2nd picture is Alex’s new tank right after Aqua Lab 2/6 3rd picture is Alex’s tank today, the Nymphoides Hydrophylla ‘Taiwan’ is doing so well we have clippings to go into the quarantine tank for when fish get sick. Final Note – regarding Covid-19 all employees were wearing masks correctly, so were customers, everyone was attempting to stay 6 feet apart, and taking turns in parts of the store were social distancing wasn’t possible. It was a wonderful experience in that aspect.

I went on a camping trip with my son and left my daughter in charge of caring for my fish. After four days I came back home and everything looked good. I left again for a several day trip southern California and while I was there my kids called and said my fish looked funny. When I returned home from that trip, I could see that something was very wrong. My heater had died while I was gone and my fish had developed a fungus. My nine inch Pleco (the reason I set up the large tank) was covered in it and all the other smaller fish had died. It was a Sunday and I called these guys hoping they would answer their phone. They did and they told me to come down immediately and they sold me some fish medicine that was vet grade. They also sold me a smaller tank so I could treat my fish in a smaller tank which would require less medicine. Sadly, it was too late. My Pleco died. I was devastated. When I spoke to them about the outcome, they offered their condolences. Only a fellow fish enthusiast would know that I was heartbroken over the loss of my Pleco. I can’t say enough about these guys. Knowledgeable, caring and accessible. When I’m ready to set up my large tank again, I’ll be calling them. Right now, I’m still mourning.

Placed an online order for a twinstar light, UNS tank, and heater in January 2021. It is now August and I have had no word - sent several emails and tried calling. All I got was an automated voice message immediately informing me that there was no one available to help with my order. I don't care if lead times are long, but being ghosted with no information feels awfully scammy. I don't know if I'm going to ever see my order, or my money. I'm moving in half a month the new residents in this apartment are going to be really confused if a fish tank shows up on their doorstep, because I couldn't even get in touch with someone to change my address. Happy to revise this review if I can get either a refund or the items sometime before New Year's. Edit October 2021: Someone finally replied to my email and I managed to get my address changed. Since this review was published I'm periodically receiving emails saying they can't get my items in stock, still waiting. Edit June 9th 2022: Received my order finally, minus the heater I had originally ordered. Added a star for the actual follow through, but the online ordering and customer service experience was very frustrating over these last 1.5ish years.

Just hear my story and judge it yourself. I am ready to answer any questions or judgments. Yesterday I was there with my wife and 8 years old daughter to shop a Blue tang as a father's day gift for me. My daughter was so excited to do this shopping for me and chose one at the end. Unexpectedly the owner came to me and refused to sell it to us because we did not buy our tank from him!!! Long story short, about 6 months ago I gave him an offer to match the price with an out of state store but was rejected by him. His email is available if any one concerns to have it. I'd rather to spend my money on local stores as a support. That was the only reason I came back to his store to buy a fish for $130 which we ended it up to buy the exact same size fish from an awesome store called "Violent Aquarium" for $69.99!!! You can't believe how hard was to answer my upset daughter's questions about this experience. I wish I was able to submit this review without any ⭐️ at all.

This company has horrible communication. I ordered an ATO container. For the first full two weeks I head absolutely nothing. No shipping confirmation, no notification of delays, no setting forward of expectations. Nothing. Two weeks in I took it upon myself to reach out to them. I tried calling. Absolutely no response. Their listed phone number doesn’t lead to anyone. Just an endless loop. Email? Nope. They did not respond to two separate inquiries I made. They still never have to this day. Finally after about a half hour of searching I came upon their Google listing. I messaged them though there. Only then did I get a response of any kind. Truly bad communication. They show a total lack of consideration and a forthcoming attitude. I believe that if I had not found this esoteric way of getting ahold of them, nothing would have ever happened. It took them 3 whole weeks for them to tell me that they refuse to sell it to me because they want more money and they don’t want to order anymore of them. Huge waste of my time.

I have a very good experience shopping online at their website. I have ordered a Hanna brand colorimeter and it's consumables online for pickup (there was no markup on the price like other retailers are doing nowadays). I sent an email after a couple of days and asked when the order will be ready and Kent replied back to me a day later that the checker is ready for pickup but they are waiting for the consumable for the meter. So I went to pick up the meter and said I'll be back when the other item arrives. To my surprise they instead shipped the rest of my order after they received it although it was a pick up order, I am very happy with my experience on my order and will shop from them again if I ever need supplies they offer. I don't normally post reviews but their overall responsiveness and nice gesture of shipping rest of my order prompted me to post this review of my own volition especially after reading some of the negative reviews (as opposed to my positive experience)

I went to Aqua Lab Aquaria for the 1st time and my first impression is that this place is dirty and unorganized. I looked at their salt water section and pipes, equipments are all over the floor it's like someone can trip and fall. The corals are unhealthy with lots of Aiptasia, cyanobacteria and hair algae. I know it was a red flag, but i decided to buy hermit crab and some corals perhaps i can do a coral dip and get rid of the plug completely maybe it's ok. So when i was at the counter about to pay, suddenly the owner came back to the shop and said "None of the corals are for Sale" in a very rude way!. Wasted my 1 hour and the guy was unapologetic and very rude too. This was the first and last that i will be going to this place. I guess should learn my lesson to just stick to Neptune Aquatics where people there are not shady like Aqua Lab, and Neptune knows how to care for their corals and costumers. This place deserves negative star not 1 star.

I have purchased a few items from "ALA"/Aqua Lab Aquarium Online all orders have been very easy to order and very fast to arrive. I discovered I live within 45min of their San Jose location, so I ordered live fish (a honey gourami and two shrimp) online and picked up in store. All live stock looks great and so far is doing great in my tank. The real reason for this review is due to an experience I had with an employee during (and after my visit). Curtis was hands down top notch. Very knowledgeable with amazing customer service. I explained to him a problem I was having with my stand/cabinet. He walked me around and talked to me about different styles, quality levels, and features of various manufactures. When I got home I still needed more information, I called the store and he spent 15+ min helping me finalize my decision. Although not my closest LFS, this is now my LFS of choice.

Purchased an aquarium stand that was in stock back mid February and it is now mid March with no update. 20 days - 14 business days. I have called multiple times a day at different times and different days and I cannot get a hold of anyone. If you press the option for Online Orders it immediately hangs up. The only time I got threw to someone was when I clicked Service and even he transferred me to a closed line. I emailed multiple times as well and still have not heard back from anyone. Horrible experience. Luckily I paid with a good merchant and they cancelled the transaction and that's the only reason I haven't lost my mind trying to get a refund. I instead ordered with Aqua Forest Aquarium and the experience could not have been more perfect. Same stand at a cheaper price. Ordered Thursday night, shipped Friday morning, received Saturday afternoon; San Francisco to Orange County.

Probably the worst online shopping experience I’ve ever had. Placed an order for items that were “in stock” on 5/13 that did not ship until 6/21. If your “in stock” items have lead times of over a month then be transparent and specify that on your website. I had to send 8 emails before any of my items shipped. Most of their responses were vague and gave me little to no information. It’s almost comical at this point and I wish I read these reviews before ordering. Thankfully I hadn’t ordered plants for my tank or I’d be screwed. Side note - I saw under Aqua Lab’s Facebook reviews that the owner and employees use their own personal FB accounts to reply to customers. I’d kindly suggest using the Aqua Labs account instead as it comes off a little more professional.

Imagine your best friend running this store This place has everything any aquarist needs, either saltwater, freshwater, planted, high tech or low tech, you name it they have it. If they don’t have it they will order it for you. Staff is very knowledgeable and will answer any question you got about this hobby. I really wish this store existed when I started my hobby. The service is wonderful. I bought a Sera CO2 reactor, it was broken and they replace it no question asked. Bought a Kessil accessory with missing parts, they contacted Kessil for me. I wanted UNS rimless 60U tank, it was sold out everywhere and they ordered it for me and contacted me immediately they got it in stock. Imagine you best friend has the same hobby as you and running this store

Update below. Placed an online order on 3/9. They stated it will take 3-6 business days to process the order. It has been 11 business days with no communication beside a copy and pasted email stating “they have so much business and not enough time”. I have sent multiple emails with no reply. I understand this is a small operation but 11+ days with no foreseeable change is no excuse. UPDATE (3/31/21): I was able to get me refund after 15 business days. Refund process was quick. Took my business elsewhere. I’m sure their brick and mortar store is great but their customer service presence is nonexistent and it seems they are not capable of fulfilling online orders at this moment.

I wish I read the reviews before ordering. I made a large online purchase on March 10th. Two days later I received a UPS tracking number. Unfortunately the tracker says it still hasn’t been picked up by UPS. It’s now March 21st with no change and multiple attempts to get through to the store went unanswered. I think I’m going to have to report a fraudulent charge to my bank. Update: I did eventually receive my order 21 days after I placed the order. They did contact me 10 days after I sent them an email. Since I did receive my items, and they technically did reach out to me, I bumped the review up to two stars. Hopefully it’s just growing pains and they work out their issues.

Do not order online from this store! I wish I had checked the google reviews before doing so. Like many others it seems, I placed an order online, got some automated email saying they are busy so it may take 3-6 days to complete my order, and then nothing. No updates for 3 weeks. I tried inquiring about my order via email and no reply. Finally I just cancelled my order. So frustrating!! I understand they are a small business that grew faster than expected. In that case, either update your website to reflect the fact that the delay may be more like 3-6 months, or just temporarily suspend all online orders. Don't mess around with customers like this! Such a waste of time.

After doing some extensive searching for a specific food, I found Aqua Lab Aquaria to be the only place carrying it. Even over the more recognized places. Not only am I thrilled to have found the food I needed, I am even more impressed with the customer care at Aqua Lab! They responded promptly to my instant messages and during a bit of difficulty on my end adding another product, they reached out to me directly. I spoke with Kent about my purchase, plus he answered some questions about my reef livestock. This place really strives for customer care and extreme satisfaction! You can't go wrong ordering from them!

Kent has been amazing dealing with any of my questions or needs. He had old stock of a Aquarium stand that nobody else had and shipped it across country for me. Not an easy task. I have never seen anything packed with so much care. It's also amazing that I know Kent on a first name basis because he went out of his way to email me to keep me posted every step of the way on my order. Its the personal care that you don't receive anymore anywhere else. I will definitely go out of my way to buy things from his website and direct any traffic I can to this amazing business. I don't know how their physical location is. This review is for an online store. They sent me a fake Eshopps Eclipse M overflow box. I contacted them and they said that they accidentally sent me off brand product. How can it be an accident when in the follow up email they say they do not have the genuine one and there is no ETA on when it will be available, yet they still list it as an available product on their website. They don't even offer off brand overflow for sale on their website. Seems deliberate rather than incidental. This store is a scam. Buyer beware.

I’ve been shopping here for a couple of years now, and it’s my favorite aquarium shop in the Bay Area! I’ve always had a great shopping experience in-store (their gallery of tanks are amazing eye candy), and have purchased tons of healthy plants and freshwater fish from Kent and his team. I’ve also purchased tanks, hardscape, and other aquarium equipment (CO2, lighting, aquascaping tools, etc) as the prices are reasonable. Kent and his team are great to work with and very knowledgeable as well. If you’re looking for a LFS to support, pick Aqua Lab Aquaria!

Ordered the simplest thing... a glass pipe. Paid upon ordering. The didn't have it. Did the tell me? No. 2 weeks later I send a mail to ask when it will come. They say they don't have it but get it in every couple of weeks. Also, they might have another brand! I say, "ok, so it's almost in?? And please send the price and a pic of "other one"... " . No reply. Days later, I get tired of waiting and just ask them to cancel my order. Ten days later, no reimbursement. I send mail asking when to expect it. No reply... where's my $ 37? Will I ever see it again?

Checked out the store on my lunch, saw some cool yellow tangs with prices tags. I was super excited to go back after work to grab them. Suddenly... just a few hours later... even tho price tags are everywhere... I’m told they’re not for sale. Even tho they have price tags and a few hours earlier it was not a problem. Super shady. Not to mention the entire store is in disarray and looks horrible. Super bummed for the lack of customer service and consistency. Maybe don’t leave price tags up if you don’t intend to sell them ‍♀️

This store is too bad. I ordered an item that has not yet updated (2 weeks after the order was made). Now I am not able to cancel the order by any way. Tried multiple ways - online thru website, calling the store (no one is picking), there chat Centre... no response, also dropped email (no response). Avoid this store for any online purchases. I wished I read all -ve reviews and trusted it. Same experience... Cannot established a communication with them in any form or cancel the order thru website.

I ordered a tank and filter in October. I'm still waiting on my tank to be delivered. For whatever reason they sent the filter, which I cant use because I dont have the tank. At the time I was aware it was on backorder, but I was told I was moving up the list and was #1 on the list in December. Here we are almost 4 months later and I cant get an update. They wont respond to emails, and it is impossible to get through to them on the phone. This place is not equipped to do online sales.

Knowledgable staff and a good selection of products, aquascaping materials and tools aswell as an increasing range of tanks, saltwater and freshwater. Multiple well done display tanks with riparium style aquariums as well as a paludarium. No signs of illness on any of the fish I saw which is a refreshing contrast to the box stores. Talented aquascapers and good array of products makes it a must for aquascapers and saltwater hobbyists.

Ordered on March 23rd and only 1 item is shipping out from the order - I've called and emailed multiple times with no response. There was a stated 4-6 day processing time but it is now day 11. Buce plant, Aqua Forest, and glass aqua area also small businesses but they respond quickly and give great service. I'd recommend shopping elsewhere until their shipping issues are figured out - it was otherwise a good company in the past.

I’ve ordered from this company several times over the past year, and it’s been a great experience every single time. They have better prices than my LFS, aquarium supplies and equipment that are hard to find, they ship fast even in a pandemic, and the staff has gone out of their way to answer my questions and help me out. Their customer service really stands out, probably the best I’ve experienced in the US.

Awesome small local fish store. They are still setting up so the products are a little unorganized. The products and live stock is limited at the moment but hopefully when they have everything set up they'd get more. They do have some good hardscape for those familiar with aquascaping. Plus the workers are nice and friendly. Overall check them out, browse around and maybe buy something or learn something.

I placed an order for multiple items on April 29th. It has been over 2 months and I struggle to get any form of response. I thankfully purchased through paypal and plan to cancel my order for a full refund. They have been very non-responsive and similar to another review, I have been contacting them to check up on my order, which they only respond 1/4 of the time. DO NOT BUY ONLINE, they are horrible

I ordered a tank stand online in 2021 and I have not received it yet. Its been very difficult to reach this business over the phone. Im starting to wonder if this business is a SCAM. For the business owner who reads this, please give me a call. Ive been patient for almost 3 years but now its ridiculous no staff has the courtesy to even call me and tell me what has happened with my online order.

Originally I was going to leave a 1 star review and be all ranting and raving. But the customer service I got from ehren was great. I think that the online store is probably going through growing pains. I probably wont shop there for a bit but I'll definitely give them another go in the future because it seems like a good business that just is in over their heads a little in the online market.

This place is fantastic! Everybody is nice and professional here. They just got their saltwater livestock system running and everything looks great! Healthy fish and corals. I highly recommend this place if your looking for reasonable prices and all your salt/fresh water needs. We need to support these small businesses after everything happening to our economy.

I placed an order to a tissue culture of blyxa novoguineensis almost 3 months ago. I have reached out to them on multiple emails, facebook messanger, and called their business and have yet to get a response. This is absolutely ridiculous! My facebook group warned me about this place, but I thought I'd give them a chance. They were right, this place is horrible.

Workers are nice, prices are okay, and the place is clean. Picking up my order was fast and easy 2 stars for the bottle of vibrant I picked up. The seal had already been removed and it's missing quite a bit of vibrant. Should I have checked it before getting home? Yeah, and it was dumb of me not to, but its still disappointing to be given this bottle

Came here to purchase my first larger tank and overall my experience was very positive. The guy who helped me was really nice and patient answering my questions (I'm very new to the hobby). They also have some really cool tanks setup for inspiration! My 12g long tank turned out well and I’d definitely come back if I was building out another tank.

I made several attempts to contact the web store and San Jose location via phone and email without response. save your money and shop elsewhere if you want to receive the right product the first time. The customer service is non-existent.

Very knowledgeable and friendly staff with lots of equipment and supplies. The space is not huge, but the items on location are high quality. They have everything you need to build an aquarium from tanks to filters to plants and fishes. Worth visiting their store or website if you're a seasoned hobbyist or new to the hobby.

Dirty and disorganized, and everything is more expensive than other local fish stores. They also have cheap poor quality products mixed in with their stock that will not stand the test of time, and will not help you when it fails. Better off just taking a drive to Sf and visiting Aqua Forest, in person or online.

Lots of construction still going on. A little hard to walk around. Gorgeous planted freshwater tanks. Limited saltwater frags and fish. Majority of saltwater fish looked skinny. I know it takes awhile to get store ready but it seem like the store had kess fish.si ce the last time I went in a couple months ago.

I order online from AquaLab at least twice a month. Everything comes in a timely manner. They did have some supply issues related to covid a while back but I always got what I ordered. All my current orders have been fulfilled and delivered to the East Coast in a week or Less. Kent and his team do a great job!

This place is an amazing store if you are looking for fish, frogs, anything aquatic and supporting equipment. Incredibly knowledgeable staff, professional, well informed, and fantastic selection. We purchased a couple guppies and dwarf aquatic frogs for our 8 year old daughter and she is thrilled!!

I placed my order over 20 days ago and have received 0 replies from the shop when I email them for a update. Website says 3-6 days for orders to ship this is clearly not the case. Terrible service would recommend to avoid

Ordered an ADA 60p and a few other things to Reykjavik Iceland. Great service, super quick delivery, think i had it at home within 3 days or ordering. Couldnt be happier will be ordering again with these guys for sure.

They have a wide variety of supplies, equipment, plants and animals. You can find a broader selection online, but often I want to actually see what I'm buying, compare options, etc. The staff has significant expertise.

Nice selection of tanks, hardscape, plants, and nano fish. I like going here just to look at the tanks they have on display, they are so beautiful. My only gripe is their selection of shrimp food is limited.

They have almost everything you need to setup an aquarium... from substrate to plants. Just that one of the tissue cultured plant that looked good was actually rotting inside and was almost dead.
