(24/05/2023) It's been a long time since I have last visited, but I am glad that I did recently! I would recommend if you're under 25, to get the free annual pass on your phone to get it scanned coming in - making for a seamless entrance and enabling you to make the most of your time there. The Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirror Room has returned to the AGO and is as popular as ever! I would suggest visiting there if you haven't already because it truly is a visual treat - but be warned that there is only a 1 minute time limit inside the actual exhibit, so consider planning your photos in advance. I imagine you can always book for another session, so don't fret if you're unable to take it all in the first time. That being said, the extent of my visits at the AGO have been limited to school trips and shorter trips with friends, and my tenure as a volunteer at their summer camp (which I would recommend for your children if you have the means for it, as it is a lovely educational experience for kids of all ages). This time, I had the pleasure of having a more extensive visit - and as a young adult, I can certainly appreciate the gallery more than I did as a kid. I would suggest making your rounds on all the different floors of the gallery, and pacing yourself. The Group of Seven is always nice to check out, and I appreciate the Indigenous representation as well! I have noticed that there are more interactive exhibits than in years prior, but I think they all elevate the experience if you're open to new things. If you can, plan ahead and think of what you want to see, as the gallery is very grand and can be overwhelming with just how much there is to see. If you're under 25, you can easily come as often as you like as admission is free - be sure to bring a piece of ID if you haven't gotten ahold of an annual pass ahead of time. Overall, the AGO is a lovely place to visit with friends and is a great workout if you opt to take stairs up to the 5th floor. Be sure to take pictures of the view outside - there's a lovely view of the Toronto skyline and OCAD that can't be beat.

This is easily the Toronto cultural landmark that holds the most resonance for this gent -- and there are so many reasons to go there; it's a great date with a friend or new acquaintance (tour the exhibits and have a bite afterwards at the cafe), it's a perfect place to find inspiration, it's a place for solace and tranquility during slower hours if you find yourself at a crossroads and need to reflect. The jewel of the AGO is the Canadian section on the second floor where you can take in beautiful landscapes created by the Group of Seven artists, and other Canuck artists are permanently on display -- such as Carr, Kurelek, Moore's massive sculptures, et al. The Frank Gehry renovation is unique, impressive -- the facade from the inside is quite something to behold - macro-spacious corridor with massive timber planks (the scale of which strikes me as a remarkable fit for our Canadian history and identity) and a view down to busy Toronto artery, Dundas Street West, below. The Gehry staircase at the rear of the building is as impressive as the facade, providing a breathtaking view of the Toronto skyline, Grange Park below. I've posted a number of pics from inside the facade and from the top of the staircase. The international exhibits that tour through are of a high caliber -- Frida, Diego, Picasso, Warhol come to recent mind. You will easily reach your saturation point before you've come close to seeing everything on offer. And if you are like me, you'll come back again, again, again. A wonderful place.

I feel compelled to share my recent enriching experience at the Art Gallery of Ontario. This institution not only holds a vast collection of exquisite works, but also promises an immersive journey through art and time that leaves visitors deeply moved and inspired. I met a very knowledgeable guide today who is with grey hair and glasses. His storytelling brought the artwork to life in an extraordinary way, particularly the vibrant piece by Norval Morrisseau about thunderbird, and also a thought-provoking sculpture about homeless people. I also want to mention the second floor of the gallery , where I was introduced to illustrious Canadian artists such as Tim Thomson and Lawrence Harris. Their adoration for Ontario was apparent in their stunning portrayals of its landscapes. Their passion, translated onto canvas, stirred feelings of immense appreciation for the beauty of the city. Lastly, the architecture of the gallery is a marvel in itself. The glass windows allows pedestrians a glimpse into the gallery while reflecting the vibrant neighborhood surrounding it. This intentional design seems to poetically symbolize the gallery's interconnection with its community. It my first time here, I’m really impressed. This visit was not just a tour, but a truly enriching experience filled with education, introspection, and a newfound appreciation for art and architecture.

Great place! We spent 5 hours there and only covered a small portion of the place. I loved the Indigenous art section! They also had one of the Group of Seven member's pieces of art. Also, they had an ivory section that featured a lot of intricate pieces of work. It was astounding to see how small the artists could carve these items. My pictures won't do them justice because you have to be there to see how tiny they are. Also, they had a section for black photographers that was well done. Resting areas: They have chairs placed very frequently throughout the building. Wonderful addition! They even had a bed-like couch that you could lay on! Tickets: Buy them in advance; otherwise, you will wait in a long line-up. We breezed through with our online tickets. Kid-friendliness: Don't bring kids here. They will be completely bored, and it is completely quiet in this place. Food: They have a restaurant inside. They also have tables that you can sit at to eat that are not part of the restaurant. They have a gift shop. Washrooms: On the levels that I visited, the washrooms were on every floor. Playground: There is a park beside the AGO with a playground. Tip: We walked down to Wahlburgers for a late afternoon lunch. What a lovely meal!

I absolutely enjoyed my experience. My kids and I had a great time. We started at the Bistro and that was a great welcoming atmosphere. The waiter was so accommodating and friendly. We had the pleasure of joining the tour on Oct 15. It was a worthwhile experience. I wish I remembered the name of the engaging guide. The story and the journey was so captivating. I initially intended to stick around only for a short time but loved the experience so much I forgot The representation of black and other diverse cultures and art categories was great to witness. I especially liked the "feels like home" signage. It's been a while since I was able to get to the gallery due to health and lockdown ordeal (sigh). Getting an opportunity to rekindle my love for the arts experience at AGO definitely felt like home, especially after such a long time away. The only thing I didn't like was the children's hands on experience areas are such a challenge to find. It seems to be dispersed throughout the gallery which is fun but tiring. My kids wanted to experience and better appreciate some areas but the crowd in some areas was too much - another day's journey. At the close of my visit, I felt a sense of calm, exhausted (so much to see lol), and inspired.

Probably the best Art Gallery in All Canada and definitely in Ontario. Excellent display of Various art types Contemporary, vintage, classical, impressionist, post impressionist, abstract, photography, native or African Asian American and European Art, Paintings, Indigenous Art, Canadian Art, Prints and Drawings, Modern Art, Libraries and Archives, Models and Miniatures, Sculptures, Special Exhibitions that run all through the year, huge collection of Ivory and boxwood models by Ken Thompson, son of Roy Thomson after whom the Roy Thomson Hall is named, Picasso, Monet, Van Gogh, etc. Wednesdays are free from 6-9PM. There's always someone in each gallery to help you find way or let you know what the arts are about, ample washrooms and elevators everywhere, Student entry is fee along with 25- ages, you can get a map at the reception for yourself as well, the room numbers are mentioned at the doors of each room on the wall and the little map they give you to find where you are. It takes 3 hours atleast to see the whole thing.

Art Gallery of Ontario is one of the biggest museums in Canada. They have different types of art which includes paintings, sculptures, visual art, clothing, jewelry and much more. I loved how they have given separate level for different form of art. They are 5 level to explore and also on the top floor you can see the scenic view of CN tower and OCAD university. Museum is accessible and have lifts for easy access. They provide guides which have to be returned at the end of tour, maps are also available free of cost and can be taken home with you. Gift shop have miniature versions of paintings and other display in form post card, fridge magnets, canvas and much more. If you’re someone looking to explore the art and culture this is a must visit place. People age 25 and under can get annual pass for free. Exhibits change frequently so it’s a great place to visit on your own, with family or friends. It’s worth while you get the annual pass and be able to visit as much as you want in a year. They have an eating b stress of you want to bring your own food especially for kids. Or they have food for purchase inside but of course it’s a little pricey. There is a lovely cafe on n the second floor with nice views of the museum. The kids love to visit when there are art activities. Kids are also free admission! Lots to see at the gallery. It can be busy on holidays and peak times. I’d recommend going off peak times so you have space and time to see what you want. If you have a pass you can see a little at a time and just come back.

2023 May 4★ Nothing to really dislike per se, but the upper floors (5th in particular) which contain contemporary art is very subjective with some images of nudity. Though all while nudity in art isn't an issue, how it's portrayed and the meaning behind it is necessary. Maybe it's just me as I failed to see the meaning. Otherwise, in interesting collection and one that is worth seeing. Enjoyed the first floor the most as it contained: Contemporary European Indigenous & Canadian Modern Photography Prints & Drawings Special Exhibitions The Grange - Members' Lounge Walker Court Overall, a good spot for visiting. Expect to spend at least 2 hours. 3 hours is a safer bet. Street parking or take public transit.

I had the most incredible time at the gallery this week. So grateful for the incredible contemporary work and the gallery’s willingness to push boundaries about what is possible for artists and their art. I am also incredibly grateful for the wonderful new Canadian artists this gallery has introduced me to. It has made me feel so inspired to be from here and to see what amazing things people do next. Thank you for being such a gem of varied and influential artists. It feels like a mix between the Brooklyn Museum and the contemporary aspects of the MoMA and others. We went to this museum on a weekday and it was still a little busy but still nice. When you’re below 25, you have to register to an annual pass which is free but still takes up a few minutes. The museum in itself was not really my favorite because it had too much of contemporary art which I’m not so fond of. Otherwise, the floor with the miniature boat collection is really nice and the back stairs (accessible from the third and fourth floors) are worth going to admire the view from there. During our visit, there was a nice temporary exhibition which was really nice and intriguing and it seems like they have a nice set of these temp exhibitions !

Their website is a great source of info: details about all current and upcoming exhibits including their location in the gallery and when they conclude and artist info. It would be well worth the price of admission however they have so many opportunities making a visit accessible: free for under 25, free Wednesday evenings (still need to get a ticket online or in person and it doesn’t seem like they limit them but I could be wrong), Toronto public library card holders can get a free pass once a year, which is so amazing. Right on TTC route, parking can be harder to find and expensive being right downtown.

The best thing about the AGO is that it's free for ages 25 and younger! Unfortunately it is not cheap for memberships for ages 26+, and I probably wouldn't visit if it were paid. There are some good exhibits, my favourite one has to be the model ships downstairs. I'm not a huge art fan but they do have temporarily exhibits such as KAWs. Overall it's a clean art gallery, well organized with coat check (free for prohibited items like bags). I recommend you buy tickets online to avoid the lineup. There is a gift shop and a Bistro inside. I wish it had longer hours on weekdays.

There was free admission today because of King Charles’ coronation. I haven’t been to the AGO since I was a child. There’s a very good reason for this. It’s boring here. Extremely. There is nothing here that would entertain a child. My 6 year old daughter kept asking when we were going to Grange Park. I don’t blame her. Some paintings were interesting. However, some of the exhibits left me wondering what passes as art these days. One of them was a video of some guy in his tighty-whities walking into the wall. Seriously?

I went on wed between 6-9pm. It was free admission. I highly recommend getting the tickets online since it will help you skip the entire line! The exhibit was also a little busy because it was free. Now that I live very close to the AGO. I figured I would become a member. Love going here when it's not busy and sitting in a few areas. (Mainly Group of Seven Section) it's typically very quiet, even when there's a lot of people walking around. I wish they would have more classical art work or exhibits and have better hours. It's still a great place to visit, even if you are just visiting. Be prepared to spend 3 hours or more if you want to see and enjoy all the AGO has to offer.

Everything is beautiful and pleasing to look at once you step inside the art gallery. I love that they offer free admission to anyone 25 and under. The infinity room was really cool and I would recommend visiting. The only thing was that the guide/map they handed out was difficult to read and follow. A great spot for art lovers/people who can appreciate art - they have paintings and art pieces made from many different types of materials. You could honestly spend a couple hours here - great date spot, place to explore with friends/family. I went in to check out their KAWS family exhibit which was very enjoyable. I attended the KAWS exhibit twice. The first time I wasn't aware there was a section for pass holders they had a free section to view. I came back the second time when everything became available to the public. Im definately thinking about getting an annual pass to experience other artists exhibits. I love the AGO. It’s a great place to hang out, have a date, or just spend some alone time. There are so many collections that I haven’t been able to explore fully yet. Our favorite is Henry Moore, but the whole place is just so beautiful and captivating, including the architecture. You can visit the cafe and gift shop afterward, and I also love the park right beside it, where you can find sculptures by Henry Moore. I totally recommend it.

The museum is massive and rivals those of the best in North America. It's almost too big to see everything. Ranges from very early art to the most modern. Most paintings are freestanding and you can see them without any sort of barrier allowing for an up close and personal experience. the best part of this museum is its massive leather sofas… def a rare event for museums to have comfy accommodations like this! enjoyed its KAWS exhibition and the AR section was engagement and playful, added a nice twist to the traditional visiting experience. A nice museum especially kids free. Famous Collection included Paul Gauguin, Vincent Van Gogh, Camille Pissarro, Paul Cézanne and Canadian‘s proud- Group of seven. I love the Massacre of the Innocents Painting by Peter Paul Rubens, in my photo 4, a large master piece in center of room very shocking and amazing. If you are fan of Rubens, you must go, it won’t disappoint you.

I’m taking a 10 week beginners drawing class at the AGO and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. It’s lead by artist Carol Matson and I highly recommend her and the course. This has given me the opportunity to see, and study, installations at the gallery that I would have been less likely to see. You can’t go wrong with the Henry Moore gallery and works by Yayoi Kusama, and the wonderful Rebecca Belmore to name only a few.

Stopped by last night since I was looking for something to do after a last minute concert cancellation. Admission is free on Wednesday nights from 6pm-9pm so it was a little busy but not too crazy. You can get tickets online in advance to secure your spot. Definitely check it out if you’re looking for a free weekday activity!

Beautiful works of art with tastes for everyone. There's an entire floor of Canadian art! I was there for three hours and I didn't really get a chance to see it all. It's the Met of Toronto Check out the building. It's beautifully constructed, but not in an obtrusive way. The winding staircase beckons the visitor to explore the next level.

Nice free exhibition for people 25 and under, you just need to put in your details to redeem the annual pass in your email (which you can save in Google Wallet or Apple Wallet). Clean bathrooms in the basement before you head to other locations in dt Toronto!

Such a great way to spend an hour or more when in Toronto. So many great exhibits in this summer, I recently saw the Wolfgang Tillman exhibit and really enjoyed the more contemporary take on gallery displays. The AGO has always included diverse artists and works with meaningful and impactful backstories!

If you're not a big art connoisseur like me, then go on the wednesday free nights. Saw the KAWS exhibit and it was quite nice. Just respect the art exhibit and don't touch or be close to sculptures as well as paintings

Always fun visiting the AGO and getting the annual pass for $35 really saves you money and time! I got to see the Keith Harring exhibit today and I used to love his work when I was younger so this was such a trip down memory lane! I also stopped in to see the KAWS exhibit which was very cool as well!

I thought we may not have good collection here like Europe. However, AGO surprises me with various exhibitions over the years. If you're young and under 25, you will visit it for free. Art is for everyone.

Great place to spend a day. Saw many beautiful pieces of art. Then we came to the room with Kent Monkman’s work. We were blown away. This painting needs to be seen in person to appreciate the scope and grandeur of the piece. Bravo. Could use some kid friendly menu options at the Bistro

This museum was amazing! There was so much too see! It would take you hours to explore the entire museum. There is a great range of work that can be found from all over the world!! All the information provided about the works were phenomenal! The museum itself is also simply gorgeous

My favourite art gallery in Canada. Great mix of Canadian art and contemporary exhibits. Free if under 25 years old. Amazing space and very helpful staff and guides! Can’t wait to go back!

This is a kind of place you can plan to go alone. In a group you may not be able to focus on the details of the art work. Good for 3-4 hours. This place is neat and clean and has a kid's area where you can leave your kids for half an hour.

I’ve been coming to the AGO for most of my life and it’s always a pleasure. Everyone that works there is so pleasant and helpful. The space is beautiful. The shop has great books and gifts. And the annual pass is a good deal for those of us who like to visit often.

I love the AGO! There are always new exhibits and it’s such a lovely museum. There’s also the 25 and under pass that will give you free admission. Definitely worth checking out.

Amazing gallery. 2nd time here and still lots to see. The temporary exhibitions are always so intresting. If you have kids, don't miss the floor dedicated to them.

Cool gallery with lots to see. The exhibition on KAWS was very interesting and the most popular with visitors. Lots of great Canadian artists on display.

Such an amazing experience at the Kaws exhibition and already looking forward to the new exhibitions coming this November! The layout is so easy to figure out and it was great seeing pieces from all over the world.

Super fun! Easy to get lost. But amazing art and they always have great exhibits. I gave only 4/5 because the main attractions that were there that I really wanted to see were down due to "technical issues"

Nice museum and easily accessible. Staff are friendly although it can get crowded at busy periods. I prefer the historical artworks on the bottom floors but there is "modern" art on the top floors.

One of my favourite places to go as a artist who has art block in Toronto! Love the atmosphere and how many different exhibits there are! Can’t wait to see more artists work in this gallery :)

It sure is a place to be, while you are in Toronto. Need to give time to explore each and every rooms for sure. It's huge and interesting. People who loves art would be enjoying the most.

Beautiful and amazing museum, I want to go there again and again. The best part is that every Wednesday night there are free admission for everyone from 6pm to 9pm

Amazing building and a great exposition. Just love this space to spend time in. Bought the yearly ticket and now I can come and enjoy wherever I feel so.

An interesting mix of exhibits. Both old school works and more modern ones. Even the seats were quite a work of art. Very much enjoyed it.

Love this place and great location to take the kids, they have art carts all the time and my daughter spends hours there!
