I have to say I have had dogs my whole life, therefore I have encountered many veterinarians . Some good, bad & well let’s just say some a bit different. I have 4 dogs & one day bc of several bad experiences at another veterinary clinic close by, just off Westwood & Portage I decided to listen to a friend & go to Assiniboia Animal Hospital. WOW, The 3 techs are all WONDERFUL, CARING, EMPATHETIC. No issues getting appointments ever( last clinic almost killed one of my dogs by making me wait all day until my 4 o’clock appointment while my dog had a stone in his urethra) My first visit my daughter was in the car & could see in through the window (COVID SAFETY) DR.SCHWARTZ WALKED IN TO LOOK AT MY BABY BOY’S EARS- the problem had been ongoing from August 2019 & other vet couldn’t figure it out) DR. SCHWARTZ is gentle & speaks so you can understand but I informed him I was a nurse so then we got down to it & in 2 weeks PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!PRICES ARE UNREAL- IN A GOOD WAY! He saw the same dog & another one today August 26th/2020- I wanted his opinion & he again had a great lady, Betty working with him & she handled both dogs with such love & care, & when he was taken away for Urine She looked back assuring me she’d be gentle. I COULD GO ON & ON ABOUT EVERYTHING BUT DR. SCHWARTZ YOU ARE A CARING, MAN WHO IS PASSIONATE ABOUT ANIMALS I am so THANKFUL I FOUND YOU & I TRUST EVERYTHING YOU SAY DO. Dr. Schwartz, Betty and Michaela are expert and kind professionals. Betty always takes care of Ruska AND MYSELF every time we come in and Michaela always greets us with a smile and a warm hello. I don’t want to leave anyone out so I must say every individual in the office is such a kind and caring individual. Dr. Schwartz worked with my old family dog Bailey for years before she passed away so for me he was the obvious choice when my partner and I got a dog. Ruska has hip dysplasia and a heart condition all diagnosed under the age of two. Without Dr. Schwartz and his team I don’t know where we would be without them. We’ve definitely butted heads here and there along the way but the trust and relationship we have built over the years means so much to me. I will ALWAYS be grateful for them. They definitely make it a welcoming environment and always put the animals needs first within a respectable financial budget if the owner does indeed have one. They’ve kept us so well informed with what condition Ruska does have and if we don’t understand something they make sure we understand before we leave. They also always make us feel like we’re doing a great job even if it doesn’t always feel like it. Thank you so much! 10/10 would recommend.

I would like to take the opportunity to say thank you to Dr. Schwartz, and the rest of the staff at Assiniboia Animal Hospital, for the care of my 17-year-old cat, Toby. Now, Toby can be slightly moody, especially when he is removed from his bean-bag chair to go to the hospital!! With his age, Toby has had quite a few health conditions: kidney failure, thyroid disease, and most recently a mast cell tumor on his foot. He is being treated for the chronic diseases, and Dr. Schwarz recently did surgery on his foot, and so far, so good! Aside from being an exceptional veterinarian, Dr. Schwarz is a great teacher and takes time to explain each of Toby’s health issues, in a way that I can understand. Toby and I have made many trips to go to the hospital for his treatment. I’ve gotten to know the staff fairly well. They are awesome. All of them. They are kind and supportive. Toby and I were not only welcomed at the hospital, we were received. They go above and beyond for me, and even gave me a ride home when my ride couldn’t make it. And of course, the ice cream! I’d recommend this hospital to anyone looking for a veterinarian.

I usually attend another vet, however my poor pup was the victim of his enthusiastic younger brother, and a collision between the two resulted in a shoulder injury. My guy could barely put any weight on it and was whimpering in pain. I called my usual vet, who was booked. 4 other places, including Bridgewater, all booked. I called Assiniboia and once I explained and she was happy to help, got me in within a couple of hours. They had warned me that because of the short notice I may have to wait, but they actually got me in a few minutes early. Dr. Schwartz was professional and took his time. They took x-rays to rule out any breaks (thankfully none!) The ladies up front must have noticed how distressed and anxious I was because they even gave me an ice cream to make the wait a little easier. 10/10 would take my pups back here, price was reasonable and you can tell the staff really care about animals. Thanks for making a stressful day a little easier!

Dr. Schartz and his team are amazing. After being gouged at another vet clinic and presenting quite upset over it, the Assiniboia Animal Hospital team came to my pet's rescue and listened to our needs. He was gentle yet firm with our cat Bebe and I was shocked at how well Bebe responded to him. He was so good! Bebe has been tricky to deal with in the past so this was beyond amazing to see. He gave us what we needed in terms of recommendations (tests/meds). He gave us options and spent the time explaining things to us. Being greeted at the front with care and respect was also nice. We don't often see this anymore in our society. We are forever grateful to the team and are actually looking forward to bringing our other cat in for her visit. Thank you team Assiniboia!! You guys are amazing!!

Dr. Peter Schwartz and his staff are amazing. I have two chihuahua's that are under the care of Assiniboia Animal Hospital. Even though I would go to the ends of the earth for my dogs I find that this clinic will never do un-necessary expensive work. They are not motivated by money. Dr. Schwartz's care and compassion that he shows not only to me but my dogs is exceptional. I trust him completely. Lisa, one of his animal health technicians is one of the most knowledgeable techs that I have ever met. I completely trust this clinic with the care of my "babies" and would highly recommend them to any person or friend that I have. Thank you so much Dr. Schwartz and staff at Assiniboia Animal Hospital! You truly are appreciated!!

What a wonderful team! Dr. Schwartz, Betty and Michaela are expert and kind professionals. Dr. Schwartz worked with Felix, aka Lucky aka Kitten to save his life as a wee kitten found nearly dead in a snowbank. Someone brought Kitten in to the Winnipeg no kill Shelter and he was immediately whisked off to the Assiniboia Animal Hospital, a few doors down. I happened to be in the shelter just dropping off newspapers and grabbing a toy for my dog when he was brought in. Since then, Dr. Schwartz is the kitten's man! He's so heathy though, we don't get to see the team that much :) They are REALLY fine people and really CARE. xo

WARNING!!!!!!! DO NOT GO TO THIS VET…I took my pet to this HORRIBLE vet Dr.Schwartz and he said there was nothing they could do for my senior fur baby besides euthanasia. I had a strange feeling about this recommendation so I decided to get a second opinion… turns out my fur baby had a infection. I have read through the reviews and it seems as if this is a common problem with this vet!!! Killing animals because you want to make a fast dollar is unethical and disgraceful! SHAME ON YOU!!! Always get a second opinion… if you’re not sure about this review I encourage you to read through the 1 star reviews on here.

I took my teacup in because she was not eating. She was 10 years old. They said there was nothing they could do for her and it was just a matter of time. They gave her a needle for pain and told me to bring her back the next day and they would have to put her down. I found out a week later she had an infection in her mouth from a teeth cleaning. It was too late as the infection was through her 4 pound body. 2 days later, she passed away at home. They did not care at all. Pump her with pain meds and they wanted to put her down. She was our family.

I would like to thank everyone at Assiniboia animal Hospital. Dr Schwartz and Christine were fantastic. I took my 4 month old jack russell in to see them with sores all over her face, she was very sluggish and acting like an old dog instead of a baby. Not only did they squeeze us in, being we had never been there before, they took the time to explain everything to us. We were told we should see an improvement in 24-48 hours. I saw in after the first dose of meds. Thanks again guys. You are amazing.

My little puppy Gus was very sick with parvo and they truly were so wonderful in treating the illness and bringing him back to health. Without them he would have most likely died, the frequent phone updates were much appreciated as we were sick with worry. Now he's a healthy happy puppy and we have Dr. Schwartz and Betty to thank for their tender care and constant supervision. I would highly recommend taking your fur babies to this animal hospital as they truly care and are great people.

My little man Leroy was hurt by some bigger dogs at the dog park. My vet couldn't fit him in but Assiniboine came to the rescue. The offered something to calm me down (a little sundae) and quickly figured out what was wrong. Even though he was originally terrified, by the time they were done he was relaxed in the arms of one of the vets. I may switch to them for regular vet service as it is closer to my home and they were so awesome. Leroy and I thank you, woof!

We switched to this vet clinic initially when our original vet of many years wouldn’t see our (sick) dog on a Saturday because they were full. At Assiniboia they made time to see him even staying open late to ensure my dog didn’t suffer over the weekend. You can tell they truly care about the health of the animals they treat not just about making money. Betty is the most kind animal tech we have encountered, thankful we found this clinic.

Dr Schwartz has cared for my cats since they were barely kittens and saved both of their lives. Both diabetics, when one of them wasn't responding to insulin he contacted people all over the world looking for a solution. Sadly that one could not be saved but I could simply not imagine receiving better care for my pets. As long as they are in business I will recommend to all of my friends and family to take their pets there.

Very friendly, caring staff. My cat was diagnosed with diabetes, I was very nervous and did not think I would be able to give him a needle but they were very informative and helpful at teaching and walking me through how to give the insulin needles. Before leaving they made sure i was comfortable & capable of giving the needle, understood the importance of the feeding schedule, insulin schedule and the new diet.

Incompetence at its finest - had to put my puppy to sleep because she had distemper which they failed to catch despite taking her back twice for eye discharge and a runny nose. Could have told us they suspected distemper but failed to. Instead my poor girl had to suffer through seizures which led to her having to be put down. Save yourself heartbreak and take your furbabies somewhere else

Assiniboia Animal Hospital's staff are amazing and treat my cat and 3 dogs very well! I love how comfortable they make myself and my animals feel with open arms in there clinic. They give the best advice when needed, and best of yet, they are excellent to the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter animals in need no matter how severe the situations is. Thank you for all you guys do! <3 :)

**note: dog did not have cancer. His poor heart was barely pumping when we took him for a second opinion. Shame on you This place is a cash grab!!! They will do anything for your hard earned cash, at the expense of your beloved pet!!! They will let your elderly pets suffer, force medications, do not listen to owners concerns or care about your pet.

My older dog's health suddenly declined, and my longtime vet couldn't get me in for a week. Assiniboia found room for me that morning. He passed a few days later, but in that time, Betty and the Veterinarians and other staff were as kind, respectful and accommodating as I could have possibly hoped for, and I'm grateful for their help.

Absolutely amazing, couldn't recommend enough. Very good with my cats and so kind and helpful. As well as they always send my kitties home with free cat nip or a toy when we get their annuals done!! They also gave me a full but open free bag of cat food when I switched my cats over to a better diet! Couldn't ask for a better vet!

I love this clinic. I’m a first time dog owner and I’ve had a lot of concerns about my pups health. I’m never made to feel dumb about any questions I have. The team is knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. Manson is happy and on his way to being perfectly healthy! I recommend this location to my friends and family.

Awesome clinic! As a first time dog owner they have been fantastic in being patient and answering all my questions. Even after a scare with my pup after an appointment they stayed late to make sure she was ok for the weekend. It’s nice to see the techs be so sweet with her too! Will recommend to anyone!

I took my dog for a test to see is two bumps on him were cancerous and they told me no shortly after. The entire time I had a bad feeling as the vet did it see fast. We just got a second opinion from another vet and turns out both areas are cancer, I am so mad but glad we got another opinion.

They made an error with a case of canned dog food I ordered but handled it promptly and professionally. They obviously value customer service and want the customer to be happy. I haven’t used their veterinary services but would now based on how they handled my complaint.

We have been dealing with this vet and they are amazing front staff are wonderful !!! They go beyond the call of duty !! Betty has even delivered food to me customer service over the top and they love animals !! Your great Thanks Teresa

Dr. Schwartz is amazing. Great patience, knowledge, and never alarmist about even serious issues. Saved our puppy from Parvo, and dealt with his anxious and sometimes aggressive attitude in stride for the next decade of care.

Very caring and helpful staff. The compassion shown to me when I had to put my fur baby down was was above and beyond. Thank you to the staff, veterinarians. And manager for everything you do to keep our fur babies healthy.

Service is good. Prices are good too. Sometimes it is hard to get an appointment but my cat is almost 3 and she seems to be doing well! She has had all her shots, spay and check ups there.

So far the worst experience at a vet , nothing but a money pit , what finally did it for me was when the vet prescribed thyroid medication for my dog which caused horrible side effects .

Always hands on. Always explain what is going on and make the plan for the future. I love that they follow up after a bit of time over the phone. Me and our cats really like the place!
