"Assiniboine Park is a great place to spend a day outside"
Been rollerblading at this park since 1993. Decided to return and hoped to see some favorite places and the new additions. Sadly, most paths are in desperate need of being repaved. My wheels were constantly getting stuck, the paths are still made using the old rock path that vibrates my wheels. My feet were numb by the end of my two hour trip. This is also not great for push scooters. So young kids will find it difficult, especially when they have to pass over the tar filled lines. The park has made some great upgrades but their paths are totally lacking and they need to be upgraded as not everyone uses bikes on the walking paths. Would love to see some funds used to upgrade the paths. Some paths even have full on weeds growing between the cracks on the cement paths. I'm thankful that I am quite solid on my blades and did not fall, but I can see some adults and kids taking a tumble. Love that the paths have remained open, but they are in desperate need of an upgrade. Love the extra kid zones, old Beach volleyball courts, BBQ spots, new additions and the Pavillion where I saw a wedding taking place on a Friday afternoon.
Playground
They can be found in certain areas, along with a cool spot just for kids that is free.
Restrooms
These are placed throughout and are clean.
Dog-friendliness
Not for off leash but you can walk your dog on a leash and give them lost of exercise.
Picnic area
Some spots need to be pre booked but there are lots of options. Some have coverage while others are in the open with tons of space foe kids and families to spread out. BBQ options are available as well.
First time out for just a coffee since confinement started. A friend and I went to the park for a chat. They have rearranged the seating, and opened up a back room to get a fair number of people in while still distancing. The kitchen is now closed off from the eating area and the waiting area is standing only with spacing indicated on the floor. They will take your cell phone number and text you so you dont have to wait inside. There was a short wait, maybe 10 minutes but not long. The menu is a bit smaller than I remember but still fairly good. My friend had eggs Benedict while I just opted for sourdough toast and both dishes came quickly. Free coffee refills and we had a nice visit for maybe an hour. No one tried to hurry us along or anything so it was a nice visit. Parking by the duck pond was full but there was lots of space in the zoo lot just around the corner. All in all the place looked pretty busy but was not really crowded. I'll be heading back I think.
I love this park. Good for biking, walking, having picnics. Concerts and activities occur in the summer. There is a duck pond with nice seating areas to hang out. The pond doubles as a skating rink in the winter. Next to the pond area is a restaurant called the Park Cafe which is open mornings and afternoons. There is a play area for kids so the park is pretty family-friendly. There are many lots that you can rent the host family barbecues. Several sports fields are used to play soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, etc. There is also a Terry Fox Fitness trail which hosts a number of structures to do strength training and and general endurance. Each fitness area has printed instructions posted that outlines a number of workout activities. So you can come here for a run and get some strength training done as well. And there is a lovely plant/flower garden, statue garden, and the Assiniboine Zoo. Lots to do here!
Vast and spacious, lots of green. Clean, you can scarcely spot any garbage on the grass. I like their cafe and the barbecue zone, also the adult bar zone, where you can have a shot or two and grab a bite.
Playground
The Natural Playground for kids is a great place to have fun with your precious ones! Several slides, one for toddlers, one for age 4-10, and the metal one is for age 6-15, to my point of view. Also the fountain and the water mill, where you pump the water yourself and it goes down the pipes in various directions, and falls into a stream. There is a vast sandbox nearby as well, and the access to the water allows the kids to make the sand damp and built sand castles. I also like the swings for toddlers, the only minus is that when you take your kid out of the swing you have to take off their shoes, as the leg holes in the swing seats are so small and inconvenient.
Assiniboine Park is a great place to spend a day outside. There are many walking and biking paths, lots of parking in and nearby the park, and many gardens to enjoy. Portage is accessible via the pedestrian bridge and leads to Sargent Sundae, a great place for a cool treat on a hot day. The park has a different feel in every season and is worth exploring. The Leaf, the English Garden, the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden and the Residential School Totem Pole are a few of the sites to check out in the park. The Park theatre has some excellent free events at the Lyric Theatre such as movie nights and performances by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. From morning brunch to evening drinks, there are places to socialize with friends and family throughout the park. Bring a picnic as well and enjoy the outdoor firepits or play volleyball or soccer. Hope you enjoy the park!
A gorgeous park I make my way over to anytime I can. I hope you all give it a chance It has the Winnipeg zoo, Leo gardens and the lovely duck pond. It has many trails and will keep you busy the whole day Bring your family and enjoy a picnic at one of the many benches or sitting areas around the park Or if you are feeling a little more fancy they usually have brunch at the forks pavilion building but check before hand and expect to dress up a lil. You can even walk the bridge over to pembina highway which is a lovely walk in itself Make sure to come down on Canada day to see the fireworks
The park is beautifully maintained, if you are lucky you will even see one of the wild deer that live there. There is lots of free parking and play areas for kids and pets. The Zoo and The Leaf are located in the park as well. A few places to eat as well.
Playground
A wonderful place for kids to play. Nice and recently built. The kids loved it! So much to do there;
Dog-friendliness
They can't go in the Zoo or Leaf, but the park is huge with lots of open spaces to run and play. There are also dog water fountains.
Much of the lighting in the park is not bright white, which is good, but it could be even better. The lights in the pavilion field are yellowish and maybe 4000 Kelivin. Would be easier on the eyes and less night-blindness inducing if they were 3200K or even sodium coloured like the ones on the footbridge.
Restrooms
If the park is open 24 hours, the restrooms need to be open 24 hours. As a night person, it's very frustrating for me to be unable to find a place to pee when I'm just out trying to enjoy public spaces.
Cannot say enough about the Assiniboine Park especially the English Gardens. If you have not had a chance to see these gardens you’re missing out. So many different flowers to take a second look some take your breathe away. While you walk through the gardens it’s so quiet you can hear a pin drop. Sure there are people but everyone so relaxed from the calmly presence of the garden tucked south west part of the park. Many wedding foto’s are taken with beautiful backgrounds to capture the moments. Enjoy the foto’s.
What an outstanding park! You could spend a very pleasant few hours walking through and around the Indigenous Garden, Kitchen Garden, Sensory Garden, English Garden, Duck Pond and Leo Mal Sculpture Garden. And that doesn’t even include the Children’s Natural Playground or the Assiniboine Park Zoo. The new Leaf project looks like it is going to be a really interesting building, although construction is still ongoing right now. And the steam train was unfortunately closed for repairs during the week of our trip.
When planning a park, one must satisfy a lot of different tastes. Whether it be for families with small kids, the exercise-minded crowd, happy-hour attendees, retired folk, and team sports enthusiasts, it is not a one-size fits all proposition. I'm happy to report that Assiniboine Park exceptionally serves all those groups and more. Whether you are visiting from out of town or a resident who hasnt been there much lately, you won't want to miss out on the fun and activities just waiting for you!
Regardless what you like to do, just go there and enjoy. Museum, zoo, hiking, biking, family gathering, probably barbecuing, cricketing, soccer, kids toy land, restaurants, some festivals, and so and so ... they all are opportunities you may experience it in the park to have fun. What I like more over there, is photographing. Stunning landscape beside the river, including different types of animals, during summer and winter time, make it fascinating! Have a fun!
I enjoy stopping in the park whenever there is time. There are so many things to do here. You can visit the zoo, stroll through the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden, enjoy the formal English Garden, watch Ballet in the Park, ride on the Steam Train, escape winter in the Conservatory, play Cricket on the main lawns, enjoy a family picnic, or one of many other fun things. The most recent time, we encountered a deer in the parking lot of the conservatory.
I have a soft spot for Assiniboine Park because I was born in Winnipeg. Between the zoo, garden, children's playground, and now The Leaf, there's a range of family-friendly options (season dependent). The zoo, The Leaf, and the steam train have costs. The garden(s) and children's playground are free. The entire park is walkable and a great place to take a jog or walk a dog. If you are new to Winnipeg, it is worth checking out.
I like the open field in front of the Lyric stage. It is mowed but otherwise seems to be left alone, as it should be. As the Symphony was playing kids were flying kites, a dad was kicking a soccer ball with his boy, cyclists happened by and stopped in to enjoy the music. It was so positive and free flowing.
Restrooms
The built up ones were closed (don't know why) but several porta potties adequately served the purpose.
Many activities to do and lots of pathways for walking and biking. There are many restrooms, picnic areas and playgrounds for children.
Playground
A large area with many activities and structures for kids
Restrooms
Many restrooms and they were all clean
Dog-friendliness
Many pathways for animals including dogs. Many dog friendly areas
Picnic area
A few large areas with rooftops to have picnics
A great place for walking and biking with your family. You can even get a 2 and 4 seat bike for rent near the bridge. Keeping social distancing is easy while enjoying the nature. If you like an ice cream, just across the bridge on Portage, or enjoy the coffee shop or the bar in the heart of the Assiniboine Park near the pond. The English garden is always a lovely place for photos with sculptures and flowers.
On Thanksgiving we visited Assiniboine Park's Duck Pond, English Garden, Leo Mol sculptures and the Pavilion's two floors of art galleries. Great time as always because there were lots of clean well maintained paths, easily found a parking spot and was budget-friendly. It's easy to spend hours watching people, birds, cyclists or looking at all the beautiful flowers, sculptures and artwork(pavilion).
If you are looking for a good all day activity in Winnipeg then have a look at Assiniboine Park. The park itself is huge and has lots of sight in and around it included Winnipeg zoo. I would recommend a stroll through the English garden and the sculpture park and then around the duck pond to the Pavilion museum and possibly walk around the outside perimeter of the zoo. A great day out!
One of the biggest park in the city! Good for outdoor activities. Lots of tables and chairs for family gatherings and good place to do exercise. Beautiful bike trails too
Playground
Children's Playground
Restrooms
There are lots of portalets near lyric theater
Dog-friendliness
You can use trails for dog walk
Picnic area
Lots of benches and firepit!
I recommend that you visit here if you like gardens, exploring and open spaces. There are lots of fun areas to explore within the park for free. You can also pay to go to the zoo or The Leaf if you want. There are a few restaurants within the park and plenty of picnic areas. You can also access plenty of paved paths if needed.
Restrooms
At main buildings
The park is a beautiful spot, especially in the summer. There’s something for everyone to find, wether going to the zoo, the leaf, enjoy the weather, volleyball or just having a peaceful day. I really recommend exploring the sites and checking out all the plaques around the park- and the statue garden is incredible. Can’t wait to go back again and again!
Even though we are in middle of winter, the park was live with all kinds of people walking arround the trails. The weather had lot to do with it because it was only -3c and Sun was shining. It was refreshing to see kids skating at the duck pond and tobogganing down the snow hill. People did kept up with the distancing which was good see.
Within the city boundary of Winnipeg Assiniboine park is best park anyone can visit. From bicycle path to several in spot cafeteria to several divided theme Small park's, animal zoo, cricket practicing net. It has almost everything anyone can expect from a park to be. It's a great place for small family BBQ party or small get-together.
One of the best park in Winnipeg that you must visit. Perfect place for relaxing, picnic, playing, walking, jogging, lots of free events happen here, and the English garden is my favorite. There is a museum, zoo and lots of stuffs! I highly recommend that you must visit this park especially if you are new to Winnipeg!
The park is beautiful, clean and I love seeing nature there like geese. The bathroom area is tidy and easy to use.
Restrooms
The restrooms are clean, maintained well and there are many stalls.
Dog-friendliness
There were many dogs being walked.
Picnic area
The picnic tables are nice, clean and spacious.
We checked out the new Diversity Gardens at the Park today. It was a beautiful fall day and the gardens still looked very nice. There were lots of people out enjoying the day, but it didn't feel crowded at all. There are several walking and bike paths, and plenty of benches and seating if you need a rest. Very enjoyable!
This park has so many attractions. The steam train is great for kids. The English garden is so beautiful in the summer… great for an outdoor run on a nice day. The sargent sundae is right across from the park…how convenient for ice cream lovers. Go inside the pavilion and explore the galleries. Highly recommended!
Amazing place to visit. Something to do for everyone. Very close to the Trans-Canada Highway so you can make quick stop to stretch legs and enjoy the beautiful park. Loved the different areas with very well maintained park infrastructure. I would definitely recommend visiting different attractions in the park.
One of the best parks all over Canada!! It is so big and good for groups of families and friends. It’s good for picnics, outdoor activities and sports and everything! The nature there is incredible. There’s parking around the park. And it looks so different in winter and summer, like two different places!!
Lots to do here, something for everyone! We were visiting from out of town, and this spot was at the top of all the "must-see" lists we read. We visited the Leaf area, as well as the sculpture Park. We were in the park for around two hours, but I could see spending a lot more time here to see everything!
Great family friendly place to visit. Free shows and entertainment at the Lyric theater often. Beautiful English Gardens and the Leo Mol garden frequently has live musicians playing. Nice place for a walk. Public washrooms available near the duck pond. Lots of pokemon available in the game Pokemon go.
Amazing park. I'm originally from Winnipeg and took it for granted until I moved away. Tons to do, great paths and fire pits, huge amounts of green space for general use, lots of cute spots for free or modest entry fees. Spent a good couple days with somebody from Ontario just doing stuff in the park.
Perfect little spot, read my book, spent time connecting with my partner, did some Journaling, all the while being able to watch people walk by, enjoyed the sound of birds chirping away. Walked around herb gardens. Shade was perfect under the trees. Perfect way to get grounded. Love nature.
This park is undoubtedly the crown jewel of our city. It's a fantastic oasis filled with picturesque spots and photo-worthy locations. Whether you're planning a picnic or simply seeking a nature escape, this place has it all. My wholehearted recommendation goes out to this remarkable park.
The Leaf. It is beautiful and a worthwhile site to stop and take in its splendor. The pictures don't do it's beauty justice. The pictures don't depict the sounds and boreal smells. The structure itself is worth visiting especially in the summer when it is combined with the outdoor gardens.
It is a beautiful park, but unfortunately, there is little to do for children. The children's park was underwhelming. A splash park or pool would be a wonderful addition. There is also no place to grab a quick snack or treat for kids. The gardens and the Leo Mol park were beautiful.
Some of the animals showed their own personalities. A horse stuck its tongue at me, a toucan seen an eskimo for the for first time he ame to get a closer look. And a small monkey freaked out when I showed him his picture on my phone. Fun!
Restrooms
Less pleasant experience.
Having bonfires during study time is possible because of this parkkkk, the security never bother you. They won’t unless you are being reckless but overall I love this place. So much to do, and a lot of ground for exercise. The Leaf is by far my favourite place in Winnipeg.
Nice place to go in the cold winter. You feel like you are in Southern countries! The downside of it is that they charge $15 per person for admission. I guess considering that you can see all of the gardens in less than an hour, it could have been priced cheaper.
"The" park in Winnipeg to visit if you have the day. There are so many things to see and/or do. Visit the zoo.. the Englush Gardens... and for ....grab a bite to eat at the Park Cafe... it was worth every penny... and I don't think I'd call it overpriced at all.
A wonderful place for family and event gathering
Playground
Is big enough and have so many play equipment for children
Dog-friendliness
Your dog can comfortably play around
Picnic area
Is a perfect place for picnic during summer time
Beautiful park for walking with lots of well maintained gardens and paths. Many options for other activities with the Zoo, The Leaf, the Pavilion art gallery and the Leo Mol sculpture garden. You can visit over and over again and still find excitement!
So much more now there since I was a kid. Reserve a spot invite the whole family. Play sum soccer throw the football. Rent sum cool bikes. Marvel at the new buildings and great washrooms. They even have a bike repair station with pump and tools. Cool
Went to the leaf, and walk around a bit. Also had a great diner in the leaf. It is great the evolution of the park since I used to live near here as a kid. Saw some great flowers at leaf and insects shaped from plants. Planing a bile trip here soon.
This park is a jewelry in Winnipeg, huge. Tons of walks, wide open spaces, gardens. Cricket matches that I have seen there for 4+ decades. True family park with spots for BBQ, gathering. Cannot say enough
Playground
Super playground for kids
Absolutely huge park with lots of open spaces. Though we didn't go to the zoo, I've heard very good things about it. The Leaf is new and is a very interesting place to go. There's also an old steam locomotive as a stationary exhibit in the park.
Experience diversity expressed through plants that shape our lives here & across the globe. Enjoy unlimited visits to Assiniboine Park Zoo or The Leaf with a membership! Learn more. Membership Benefits. Amazing Animal Species. Family-friendly
Beautiful, expansive park with lots of different places to go: Leo Mol Sculpture Park, Gardens at The Leaf, English Gardens, Nature Playground, and the Pavilion. And it's all free!! Great for all ages (nature playground especially for kids).
This is a large park with the zoo, an arboretum, lots of open areas for picnics and games. But best of all is the English garden. Beautifully maintained, docents walking about to answer questions, good plant labeling, stunning plantings.
Probably the best park in Winnipeg, with pleasant walking paths, gorgeous ponds, and stunning flowers in the English Garden. The trolly can be ridden to get around for free, and there are many interesting sights hidden around the park.
A great place to spend time with family and friends. If you're wondering where to throw a picture perfect picnic straight outta Pinterest, Assiniboine Park is the place to go. Also a great place for an early morning run or a bike ride.
Ballet in the Park was an outstanding event. There had to be at least 4-5,000 people there. The park was in great shape and all facilities were tip top. We are fortunate to have Assiniboine Park and Royal Winnipeg Ballet in our city.
It’s a really nice place to enjoy. You can rent cycles and roam around, chill near the red river, enjoy Sargent sundae ice cream, visit the museum that’s near by. It’s an amazing place to have camps and enjoy with family and friends.
It was a beautiful afternoon. Not crowded, went to the sculpture garden and had a lemonade break at a patio area from a couple of temporary food truck. Love watching the geese, ducks, squirrels, people & their pet pooches❤️ …
The Leaf: Good place to go on a cold sunny day in the winter! Go during the day to see the butterflies cruising around, night time not so much. It's humid and hot in there, dress in layers, there is a coat check, not supervised.
Visited the Leaf "exhibit," and it was an enjoyable experience at a reasonable price. Park was in good shape, and flower gardens are beautiful. The butterfly portion of the leaf was a little lame, counted roughly 4 of them.
Great space - large park and lots do do year round. A bit of road construction at the moment but that is out of the norm. Gets busy on weekends and later in the day but going in the morning will afford you ample parking.
Great place for the family. Has a awesome playground for the kids. Perfect idea for birthdays, outings, etc. And visit the leaf! Beautiful, very educational place about all varieties of plants from around the world.
The new Leaf is amazing! From the delicious food at Gather to the conservatory with two biomes, butterfly room, fish pond, waterfall and outdoor gardens - it didn't disappoint! Amazing place to visit.
Possibly one of the most underrated places I have ever been to. It is so beautiful and historical. The English Gardens are something special. If ever you visit Manitoba, add this to your bucket list!
A nice place to relax with your family. Also good for parties like birthday celebration. However, it is usually difficult to meet someone already in the park. Ideal place to go when it's hot summer.
Within the park we have a meticulously maintained English style garden with winding walkways around flower beds through low hanging mature trees. Additionally, have a craft beer at Cargo Bar . …
A wonderful park with many trails, the Lyrics theatre, pond, English garden, the Leaf Botanical gardens and children's playground and more...
Restrooms
Easy assessing and fairly clean.
Very clean, good attractions and things to do for all ages. Love the nature playground though it can get busy and kids can wonder into the trees. It's fenced but you can lose track of them.
Would be nice if the public washrooms were open more other than that it looks great so many beautiful paths to walk with different scenery has improved a lot over the years I love to see it
There are a lot of things you can do here. Best park in the city for sure. The leaf is open and definitely comes in to see tropical plants and flowers. Also, butterfly gardens and zoo!
So nice to walk in fresh, moist air. Rejuvenation at its finest. The butterfly area was so fun. Seeing one land on someone delighted everyone especially the kids. Will return often!
Good picnic spots with family & friends with open play ground for any sports activity enjoy cycling in deep forest area In winter enjoy white surroundings with some winter sports
It's a beautiful park, with lots to see and do, for people of all ages.. The Assiniboine Park Zoo is also within the park! It's my favorite park in the city, always has been
This is the gem of Winnipeg with the zoo, English gardens, The Leaf and many other places to see. I always enjoy coming here. Great place for both tourists and Winnipegers
Beautiful place to walk around. I love that it is so big, and there are lots of places that you can sit on. I always like the different buildings that you can look at!
Beautiful and big park! There's a lot of things to do and lots of things to see from the english garden to zoo, botanical garden(the leaf) the pavillion & more …
Even on a cool cloudy day the Assiniboine Park is worth the trip. Great walking paths, it's beautiful to stroll around the duck pond and through the English Garden!
Really neat, but overpriced. Not a lot of butterflies in the butterfly room, and some of the plants were suffering transplant shock. Some of the plants had pests.
Lovely park to do everything you want Music, read, dance, watch listen I Highly recommend this Park to anyone visiting Winnipeg you will not regret! Peace n Love
Absolutely beautiful place. The patio was packed the geese are out ! Soak up the last bit of summer and head to the park for some yoga a nap or even a good book.
It’s a nice park for everyone and everything. There’s a beautiful spot for taking pictures for graduation and weddings and maybe just weekends picnic.
Good place to hang out with family and frds, I would recommend to bring some thing to play with your family like a ball or racquets or a Frisbee.
Great park, only got to see half or maybe less, but it was a great walk and there was also some concert going on which was very nice!
Went for outdoor movies. Volunteers were on hand to pick litters and also maintain orderliness. Was a good experience overall
The new Indigenous Peoples Gardens is spectacular...a beautifully set up area with gardens and areas to relax and explore!
İf you like wide open spaces, this is for you. The park has a lot to offer. Perfect for a long walk without the traffic
Beautiful, loved all the Potted Mums. Have to go next summer to see it in full bloom. First time there October 2021.
We went to the Leaf. It is beautiful! Loved the butterfly garden! Everyone was so kind and helpful and informative!
Great Experience. Good family time. Nice place to spent a day and also great for Pictures. New Kids rides awesome
Great place to spend the day. Lots to see. Watched a cricket game, took in the Leaf and the English Garden
Beautiful park! It is quite large, so if you plan on walking around it, bring appropriate footwear.
Beautiful place. Stopped on our road trip. Nice little art spaces inside. Great park for the kids.
It is a well maintained and safe place with many attractions for various age groups year-round.
Amazing park, nice clean a lot space and well maintained. Best creeks to walk close to river
A true gem in the heart of Winnipeg. Plenty to keep the whole family occupied.
