First, i must admit that reviewing a cemetry is an emotional action because, nobody happily visit a burial ground. The persons for whom this place become their eternal resting place are USUALLY not in a position to chose, and are never able to rate it. Except for those who manage or work here, each and everytime people visit or have anything to do with this place, it is for a sad loss, an emotional rememberance, etc. However, Atan Cemetery is one of the oldest burial grounds in Nigeria. Said to be over a century old. It has reserve areas. And it is one of the most popular burial place on the mainland of Lagos. Easily accessible by road. Has a plethora of interment-related services providers around there. There is no good or bad cemetery. Once a sacred life is lost in Nigeria, how the remains are handled depends on cultural factors, family values & social class. So, rating of a cemetry varies with each of those factors. For me, i will rate Atan as 3/5, because it is just okay as a place to bury the dead.
A Cemetery indeed ! It's quite overcrowded and needs a proper clean up and revamping. The military segment of the Cemetery is very clean though and orderly,I liked the sight of it. The public portion of the place can be well improved. Accessible road to reach the graves are lacking and the men working there needs more training and orientation. Some of the graves are falling apart. Traffic going in there wasn't too nice as well.
A lady in charge there known as Alhaja is quite rude to visitors. Apart from that workers there are helpful and respectful. CofO checks now in place before they let you in and a staff member will escort you to the plot you want to visit. To ensure visit is genuine, as in the pass bones have been dug up by unscrupulous people.
A cemetery that belongs to the general project. There are several segment in here, among are; the soldiers that died in the 2nd world war, the christian side, the muslim side. They have a cemetery caretaker in here that guide here and schedule visitation base on organization request. It has an accessible entrance.

Vastly overcrowded old cemetery currently being revamped and remodeled, somewhat overturned and opened up, to create more room- as it has been rather overused, being by far one of the oldest cemeteries in Lagos.
This an organised cementry compared with Ikoyi cementry. Well maintained despite poor government attention. This is where my parents have their rest.
The cemetery is very organized. Clean and has a very good layout. Here is a drone shot I took of the cemetery during a funeral I documented.
It's being controlled from toys and unwanted miscreants. But improvements needed to be done: good roads and more waiting areas.
The cemetery need to be well taken care of by the local government. It looks more like a dump site for dead bodies
Is a place to think how your end will be... That one day we'll return to where we came from.
Organisation here is better than that of ikoyi
Good final resting place
Well organised cemetery
Very muddy and unkept
I love it so much
