"Thanks to the help of the people at Aqua-dome, Ginger the thick-lipped gourami and all my other fish survived what turned out to be a 16-hour train ride back to school after the holidays! People who work here are aquarium hobbyist types first who really know their stuff, are very friendly, and clearly care a lot about fish-keeping"
"This place is always awesome"
If you are new to the aquarium life I would not recommend going to this store at all. It seems they really only care about making sales and taking advantage of anyone new. First problem I had was when I started and was told that I could go ahead and throw 5 ember tetra and 2 shrimp into my tank after letting it run for 3 days. I mentioned wanting a testing kit and was informed I didn't need one and it was unnecessary. So of course right after the warranty for dying fish was up, everything started dropping like flies until I was inevitably left with 1 after 2 weeks. Follow up to now 2 months in.. I went in looking for Dwarf oto, was told it would be too big for the 3in space I have left in my 10gal and the chick kept pushing for snails, which I was adamant I wanted NOTHING to do with because of the horror stories I had heard about them. I was also looking for Java moss to add to my tank. This chick sold me a moss ball that wound up being infested with ramshorn snails. I'm talking at least 10 popped up in my tank and I was in tears. Then I get told on the phone that "duh that's how they come and you would need a culture tissue of it if you wanted to avoid that", which of course wasn't mentioned to me when the other chick sold it to me at all. They then tried to push me for an assassin snail (which are just as bad about taking over tanks after I did more research on them) to take care of the now infestation I have in my 10gal tank that I quite literally JUST got right and I'm still beyond upset. I took the moss up there and wound up just grabbing a small piece of driftwood and leaving before I started crying again. Honestly they're severely overpriced and there are much better options, with people who will legitimately educate you on your decisions vs just trying to make sales and taking advantage of the fact that you're new and just play dumb afterwards. The 3 times I've been in there I've also seen a LOT of dead fish in the tanks, there's literally dust on half the merchandise (which isn't a surprise considering the prices). AquaTek is awesome. They also run specials a lot more. As well as Austin Aqua Farm. If you're experienced I'm sure it's fine, I'd you want to pay way more, but if you're just starting out I would highly recommend going elsewhere.
This place is awesome for anyone starting your first fishtank to aquarists! It is not your typical aquarium store. There is a wide variety of fish, coral, and equipment for anyone’s budget ranging $-$$$. There is saltwater fish upstairs and freshwater fish downstairs. Would recommend going on a weekday instead of a weekend to avoid crowds. I cannot speak enough about the staff! Most of the staff have been there for 15+ years and are enthusiasts themselves. They never rush you and are always there to help you. They also love sharing info and care tips. Hunter was very friendly and helpful; we got to understand more of his specialty: saltwater fishes!
There are 2 stores in Austin that you should buy fish. The Aquadome if you're south of downtown or Aquatech if you are north. The aquadome has hundreds of both salt and fresh water fish, coral, live rocks and sand, crustaceans, outdoor ponds and fish, and every type of supplies you would need. Prices are great and the staff is both knowledgable and friendly. Pro-tip... buy the loyalty card. Best 20 bucks you can spend if you are a fish hobbyist.
Thanks to the help of the people at Aqua-dome, Ginger the thick-lipped gourami and all my other fish survived what turned out to be a 16-hour train ride back to school after the holidays! People who work here are aquarium hobbyist types first who really know their stuff, are very friendly, and clearly care a lot about fish-keeping. Store has a great selection and regularly has the sorts of things you won’t find anywhere else in town.
This place is always awesome. So many fish to see, and supplies available. I bought some water treatment stuff and hardscape for a new freahwater tank Im planning. Staff are generally friendly and they know a ton! I have been there so many times and never actually went back to see the ponds. Very neat!! Only downside is its tough to navigate the narrow walkways when its packed on a weekend. Overall, love this place!
I can't believe it took me so long to come here. I thought they only had saltwater fish, but not so! Not only is it super fun to visit like a mini zoo, but they also have a great selection of aquatic plants, freshwater fish and supplies... All of which I needed for one of my tanks. I got 5 ember tetras that are all doing great!
Excellent selection of fresh and saltwater friends, all nicely organized and arranged inside the dome. Great variety of shrimp too! There was also a nice selection of plants and corals. They are definitely passionate and knowledgeable, so I’d recommend them for anything you need - even if it’s just advice!
Get your fresh and saltwater livestock and supplies at this funky Austin store. With a knowledgeable staff and wide selection, you can be sure to find some great stuff. From my experience, the weekends get pretty crowded with more buyers than staff. For a low stress perusal, I would suggest the weekdays.
Love this place. Every time I've gone I've had meaningful interactions that have lasted with me. The livestock selection for freshwater and saltwater has a huge variety. They have some particularly nice ($$$) corals, as well as $5, $10, $20, $30, $50 and $70 tanks making selection on a budget a breeze.
This is one of my most favorite places in Austin period. It’s beautiful and very well taken care of. They love their aquatic animals and it really shows. They have tons of salt and fresh water exotics. There is also a cute koi pond area in the back and a turtle pond near the parking lot.
recommended to come here for aquatic plants but they had those and then some! Impressive array of healthy freshwater fish for sale and cool projects on display, lots of pond supplies and tank equipment. Definitely worth it even just to feed the turtles out back :)
First time there today with my kids and we loved it! A really great selection of freshwater and saltwater fish and gear. We left with some corals for our saltwater tank and we’ll definitely be back! The building is also literally a dome - How cool is that!
An Austin icon!! Go feed the turtles, take a look and buy your salt water fish upstairs and fresh water downstairs. Gary and his staff are always wonderful and well informed. I can't say enough good things about this family friendly place!! Enjoy!!
Humble store that constantly has livestock and dry goods in stock. From the tanks that I was seeing, almost everything looked healthy besides one or two tanks that had some sickness in it, but that is to be expected when bringing in such a
Hands down the best fish store we have been to ! Great customer service and very knowledgeable.. we experienced losing 6 of our angel fish from a fungal disease after we had bought fish from them and we were devastated. The owner Gary had
Ahhhhh!!! I LOVE THE AQUA-DOME. The staff is ALWAYS so friendly and helpful. They truly have always cared about my aquatic pets and listen to me passionately talk about my snails. MELISSA was an angel!! A true gem and the best addition to
Who knew they sold water Lillie’s and turtles? Been going here for years. Fun place to take the kids too. They’ve been a great local resource forever. Every time my grandkids come we let them pick out a koi for our pond. They love it.
Great place for pond and saltwater stuff. They have freshwater too. Pond fish a little on the pricey side. Make sure to check the back outside for the pond section. Saltwater is upstairs freshwater is downstairs pond stuff is outback.
This place was so great. The guys who helped me was new, yet he knew soooo much about fish and what i should and should not do/get. I will definitely be returning here for my fish needs. P.s. "life is a gamble, wager wisely" Romain
This shop has a very interesting selection of saltwater fish. Unfortunately, both my wife and I were put off by the smell. Maybe the protein skimmer cups in the tanks need to be emptied and cleaned.
One of my favorite aquarium stores in south Austin. The staff is nice as is the varied selection of fish (fresh water and salt), plants and misc products. Reasonable prices. Highly recommend!
Dont go to Petsmart or Petco. Come here! I love this unique store with knowledgeable, nice, and happy to help staff! Dont forget they have a few items outdoors to look at and purchase.
Got my first pleco here over the weekend and the staff were really great. I told them what I wanted and I got it as well as recommendations for tank mates. Am enamored with my pleco ❤️
Lots of options but detracting a couple stars because they sold me an endlicheri bichir as a delhezi. Big difference in max sizes between the two.
Got an awesome saltwater star fish today and saw the catfish. We have been buying fish from here for years the drive from Central area is not bad
Wow. I love this place. Staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. Great place to get supplies and fish , ect for freshwater and saltwater tanks.
Amazing. The staff is so friendly and helpful. I could spend hours here. Everything you could possibly need for freshwater or saltwater. …
I drive 3 hrs to get here...love this store. Excellent employees. They're super knowledgeable & helpful. A gem of a fish/coral store.

Simply the best fish store I've ever been to. Absolutely wonderful selection, amazing quality of corals and fish. Huge
Excellent selection of livestock for salt water and reef aquariums. We drive up from San Antonio every chance we can.
A very unique place. Peaceful, tranquil and fun. Very friendly staff and an amazing selection of tropical fish!
Has a good selectionof both tropical and salt water fish. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable.
Excellent selection of every aquatic animal. The staff is very knowledgeable and super friendly!
Super friendly, super knowledgeable. We've been patronizing since we moved her, 14 years ago.
Best Local Fish Store with great customer service and great knowledge on fish and coral.
