This is the most wonderful bookstore in the whole world. Why? First, the volunteers and staff do a fantastic job curating and organizing books, puzzles, ephemera, postcards, brochures, etc. Buyers have access to all manner of interesting, important, fun, weird and wonderful stuff. Usual prices for most things range from $1 to $2 or $2.50. Taxpayers of Austin please note: due diligence appears to have been done before pricing, so books etc. which would fetch a reasonably hefty price on the open market are priced separately, and reasonably. But there are still so many bargains to be had for buyers. A barely touched Richard Scarry book for $1. A 1940’s children’s workbook for $1. Hardbacks $2ish. Most things in this store are accessible to people with modest book budgets. I love the variety, low prices, and unusual offerings tucked among the bestsellers. A big thank you to all the folks at Recycled Reads for this gem of a bookshop where you don’t need a lot of money to leave with a tall stack of really good books!!

Yes, this place is run by the library, but it's a book store. So it's not the hush-hush place that a library is. You can talk, bring your cup of coffee & munchies in with you, chat with friends while knitting, coloring, or whatever. They have large tables with good overhead lighting if you need a place to lay out a project you're working on. Check their website site for the free events that happen regularly in the open space: crafting, poetry reading, live music, and more. They have great deals on jigsaw puzzles, music, movies, and, of course, books. You never know what serendipitous selections you'll find on the shelves, so go back frequently and browse. Most paperbacks are $1, hardbacks $2. What a deal!

Recycled Reads is so authentically unique. So much so that it is hard to describe. So very much more than a ‘Used Bookstore.’ Yes, there are ‘Recycled Reads,’ and yes, it all benefits the Austin Public Library, but likely you’ll enjoy a poetry reading or a performance by the Austin Ukulele Society while you’re there, especially on Sunday afternoon. I enjoy going to my Sunday afternoon sewing Meet-Up there... and often leave plenty of time to browse books. I’ve brought neighborhood children and my granddaughter here to pick out books to enjoy. And for myself, I always check out the DIY and crafting section!

I come here about once a month and always leave with a basket full of amazing finds! Google ways to remove library sleeves and labels if you don't want your home bookcase to look like you robbed your local library. WD-40 works wonders to remove adhesive residue. Books look good as new. I routinely pick up about 15 books and spend $20! Children's books are 2 for $1. Paperbacks are $1, hard covers are $2. Select mass market paperbacks are $0.50 cents each. Just a great place...definitely worth it!!

This is my current favorite bookstore in the world, because even though the selection isn’t massive, it usually always has absolutely incredible finds. For example, pictured here is 1st edition, 1962 copy of the famous Carlos Fuentes novel, the death of Artemio Cruz. I also found one of the classics of Brazilian modernism that I was almost certain I would never find here in the United States. These are just two examples of the types of incredible gems You’ll find almost every single time you go

Great, inexpensive used book selection! I particularly love getting travel guide books here! I visited on Saturday because they were hosting an Austin Fix It event where you could bring things that you needed to fix and get help from volunteers in your community to learn how to fix them yourself. I fixed a broken necklace chain and got some ideas for other things that might be worth bringing to fix in the future. This was a great location for this event!

I've never been to a bookstore that chides you for buying too many books. Odd. They used to have scores of re-sellers, elbowing people out of the way with their electronic gizmos, scanning books to resell online. My God that was tedious. Now, apparently, they've swung in the other direction and give you the cold shoulder if you're politely taking your daughter out for her birthday and buying 50 dollars worth of books for the family. C'est la vie.

  • faux bana

This is the best value for books in town. It's the libraries' overflow store where books that are cycled out of libraries go first. You can also bring your own books to donate or volunteer here as well. The staff is always very friendly and nice. They even hold craft hours, reading to a therapy dog, etc. All children's and youth books are 50cents. Hardcovers are $2, softcovers are $1.They also have sections of collectibles that range from $5-20.

  • A Garcia

Overrun by resellers Literally they run in there at opening with their scanners and take everything to reserved section. I tried just browsing what’s in their reserved carts, and employee told me I couldn’t since it’s reserved. Kinda sucks since as you walk around there’s not many books leftover of “value”, and their intentions is just to resell on the internet. It is what it is, I guess - lol i just wanted a good book to read on the low

  • Katie Garcia

I love this place! All paperbacks are $1, all hardbacks are $2, kids books I think are 50 cents. You have to go with a spirit of serendipity; if you're looking for a specific book, you'll do better to stick to Halfprice Books or Bookpeople or Amazon BUT if you are a bibliophile who enjoys the hunt, this place is AMAZING. It is especially good for moderate-to-highly popular fiction released in the last 2-10 years, classics, and biographies.

Recycled Reads is a wonderful resource provided by the City of Austin. You will find tremendous deals on gently-used childrens' books. Because it's part of the City of Austin library system, the same great programming found at Library Branches usually finds its way to Recycled Reads. This past summer my family enjoyed a hilarious puppet show here. The staff are as friendly as the branch librarians. Which is very friendly.

  • Rachel Quevedo

Lovely thing they are doing here. The selection is always changing. I have found so many wonderful books and the best part they are 50 cents to a dollar a piece! Seriously check them out before you pay 27.99 at Barnes and Nobles. I've been eyeing a copy of Team of Rivals for a while at the big book store. I found it here for one dollar! You will be helping the environment and contributing to a good cause! Less landfill!

  • Jason R. Koivu

One of the best used book shops around if you're looking for a cheap score and are willing to search for it. Since Recycled Reads is tied to the public library system, many of the books for sale here have library labels. It's also always really quiet in here, so the first time I came in I wasn't totally sure I hadn't walked into an actual library. Nope! Everything's for sale and at an unbeatable price!

  • Ann D.

What a great find! My coworker told me about this place. You can get softback books for $1, hardbacks for $2. They have other items like CDs and Records for very cheap. It's a great place to get things for your craft project. I picked up 23 records (3 bundle packs) for an art project for $3. They also have craft classes which I hear is fun. I will definitely be back.

  • Whitney

I absolutely love coming to this store. The books are wonderfully priced and there are some true gems. There are also audiobooks, music sheets, maps, and sometimes even crafts and puzzles to buy. It's a wonderful place to browse and a great place to find a new read for everyone in the family. There is even a kid corner and it's precious.

  • Brooke Grantham

Recycled Reads is well maintained and the staff seems friendly. The selection is hit or miss, but that's to be expected with a second hand bookstore and adds to the fun when you find something amazing. Not a huge selection of albums, but I've had pretty good luck finding unique ones. Great place and it's nice to be helping the library.

  • Ami Bhavsar

Great concept for a book store. Love that my money goes towards helping the libraries. Prices are cheap! They get donations frequently, so stop by regularly to see different books. They have a vintage/collectible section which is interesting to peruse through. Lots of kids books too, if you need to build up your kiddos library.

  • Alli Spencer-Driden

The volunteers were all lovely, positive people! Found a bunch of great full size comic collections and CDs and left with a full box of stuff for $16! And the money helps the public libraries! They have collectable stuff, DVDs, study stuff, fiction and non fiction, and a ton of kids stuff. And it's a Pokestop!

  • Rebecca Rother

Really awesome place for finding unique books. $1 for papernacks and $2 for hardbacks. They weigh all the books so they know how much they've collected. They also hold other fun events and workshops. If you're looking for something really unique follow them on Facebook to see their weird items posted!

  • Victor Flores

Probably the best used books store I I've ever visited. The vintage book selection is awesome and the prices are really low on pretty much anything. Most of the books are on excellent condition and I find the way the things are ordered very intuitive to find what I am specifically looking for.

  • Judy Scott

Had a very pleasant visit here today. There was nice music from the ukulele orchestra, and a table where a dozen or so people were doing crochet and knitting projects. Books are $2 for hard cover, $0.50 for paperback, and a selection of coffee table books, and more. One of my favorite places.

  • Charles Bastian

Awesome little bookstore. I found an entire 7 book series for $0.25 to $0.75 each. I love running in and digging through their shelves. You never know what you will find on their shelves. And, from what I've seen, they are dog friendly! If you like to read, you must check this store out.

  • B 6TB7OY2FC0

The selection is about as bad as it gets and the prices are terrible. While it's a nice idea to support the library system this place is poorly executed attempt. Savers and goodwill have much better book selection and prices full stop. You should go just to see how bad the selection is.

  • Lee Ann Mcqueen

What a lovely used bookstore! Most paperback books are a dollar and most hardcovers are 2 dollars. They also have a section of books for 50 cents. I went in and got 10 books for ~20 dollars. It seems like their inventory changes daily so every time you go in you’ll find something new!

  • Heather

I love Recycled Reads. It helps keep books out of landfills, helps people find affordable (under $2) books, movies, and music, benefits the library, takes in your donations with no fuss, and has special events like live music and crafting. It's really an underrated treasure in Austin.

  • shawn latorre

Art made from books, book pages, puzzles, and other assorted media grace the shelves of Recycled Reads. I love stopping in to see what goodies Austin Public Libraries are tired of! Stop in here and brouse for awhile--you'll find some really cool things at incredibly low prices!

  • Kim Roy

One of my favorite places in Austin! We give away books for Halloween, and at 50¢ each for kid and YA books including hardcovers, this is the perfect place to get them! Great variety and affordable for teachers building classroom libraries and for any book nerd. It's the best!

  • Jewels Wellman

This place is THE BEST!!! If you want to wander the aisles of a book store with no agenda and let the books speak to you, this is the place. It feels like exploring someone's personal connection. You'll come out with a gem of a story every time. The price is incredible!!

  • Rebekah Grmela

Recycled Reads is one of my favorite hidden gems in Austin! This is a great place to find high-quality used books from the Austin Public Library system. Most are under $2 each, with a few special editions as well. Off Burnet Road, and lots of great shopping nearby.

  • Michelle Chu

This is the best bookstore for children's book. I have a nephew that loves to read and it's been great to indulge at $0.50 a book. Most of them are amazing quality, and he donates them to his school in China when he's done with them, so a win for everybody!

  • Glorious Panic (Katy)

Great atmosphere and a wide selection of used books at unbelievable prices. I went crazy and was able to walk out with 39 books and a total of only $27.50! On top of this there are a number of fun events held at the store that only make each visit better.

  • Tali Wildman

Awesome idea, pretty empty and anti climactic. I was expecting full stacks to dig thru and most of the shelves were mostly bare. There are definitely good deals to be had and the idea is great...just not sure it was worth the trek north of the river for.

  • Mike Carter

Love this store ! It is the outlet for all of the books, audio, movies and Misc. that the Austin Library system is excessing...Super cheap, and you will never find a more esoteric collection of "interesting stuff" to peruse...a really fun afternoon...

  • Sunee

I absolutely love this place. It’s cheaper than Goodwill and is organized. I always find gems for under $2 each time I visit. Sometimes they even have half off sales! I even helped decorate an Airbnb’s shelves by buying books here. …

  • Alan Brooks

Great selection of former library books, but also rare, used books, signed first edition copies, and (20th Century) antiquarian books. All at reasonable prices and, occasionally, they do a $2 all-you-can-fit-in-a-bag paperback sales.

  • Mike Slavin

A great way to grow your library at a pretty minimal cost. The kids books are generally fairly picked-over, but if you volunteer there, you'll often have a chance to buy things before the public has a crack at them.

  • Kat Askari

This place is fantastic! They have children books and adult ranging in price from fifty cents to two dollars. I donated a ton of books to them recently because all the proceeds go towards the Austin Public Library.

  • Angela Moyer

If you're a teacher or even just an avid reader, this place needs to be on your short list of places to visit! Library bound copies of high-interest books for $2 or less. Amazing! And the staff is so friendly!

  • Robyn Babyak

Used to love shopping and donating here but the experience was totally ruined. The resellers are out of control and Ruth was very rude to me about my donation. I don't bother making the trip to RR anymore.

  • Ashley Abbott

Great variety of books, most of which are $1 or $2. You can also donate your old books/media here for someone else to enjoy, with proceeds benefitting the Austin Public Library. A win-win-win!

  • Storm Moyers

This place is a gold mine. As a preschool teacher and mother of two I'm always looking for deals for my children and this place has them. Friendly staff and great prices on Childrens books.

Cheap library cast off and donated boos. Organized library style. Best place to get kids picture books, hands down! 50 cents for kids books. $1 and $2 for adult reads.

  • Rubi Gallegos

Very VERY cheap books that came from the Austin public library. It's a decent little store, but it seemed a bit empty. The shelves in some areas, we're quite barren.

  • Domas Dopez
