After roaming around, ignoring the touts, and trying to find a place that was good for someone on vacation, I stumbled upon a small sign that said Bar PSY rock bar. I had heard that rock bars have a great scene, so I decided to give it a chance. I'm very glad I did. My Japanese is very limited, but as soon as I walked in, I was warmly greeted and welcomed by a few English-speaking regulars. Despite its limited space, the bar was adorned with fascinating history, featuring personalized autographed notes from numerous metal bands. I learned about the close-knit community that exists among the patrons and proprietors of several rock bars in Shinjuku, which are often visited by the bands themselves. Regarding the drinks, I thoroughly enjoyed them. I ordered a Moscow Mule, and unlike in the States, the ginger flavor was well pronounced, not hidden behind excessive lime juice. I also tried something called a Hell Driver (I believe that's the name), which was a cocktail with red wine. I found it to be delicious and very easy to drink. One of my favorite features was a cowbell mounted to the bar. When struck, the person who hits it buys shots for the entire bar. Overall, if you happen to be nearby, I highly recommend checking out Bar PSY.

Awesome place with awesome music! Atmosphere is definitely that dive/grunge with unique quirks all over like the cowbell for bar shots! Really fun staff that enjoy engaging in conversation and wanna have a great time. Plenty of regulars circled in while we were there and that’s always a good sign! Will be back

Great place to get wasted, and one of the few Metal/Rock bars with consistent hours in the Shinjuku/Golden Gai area. Will headbang along with you, good hearted staff. Sometimes it's very popular though and it can get real packed, even for the Golden Gai. Just ring the Jagermeister bell and people will tap out.

I loved it here! The bar tender was super fun and friendly. The drinks were great and the atmosphere was awesome. I also really appreciated the fact that the music was kept at a level that we could always have a conversation and not need to yell over the music. I highly recommend it here.

Pretty good vibes, atmosphere is good, design is quite cool. Wide variety of drinks and staff is super friendly. Music isn't as loud and normal places which allows you to speak with people without shouting. Place allows smoking so if you don't smoke that might be the only issue.

Fun small metal bar that is almost always bus and bustling. Friendly staff, good drinks and great music. You can request songs of your own. They have 'the cow bell" ring it and buy shots for everyone in the bar.

Definitely the best bar I discovered while visiting several japanese cities. The team´s very friendly and laid-back. Typical rock music and not so typical guests. BAR PSY has long opening times and smoking is very much allowed. :)

One of my favourite dive bars and also one of the few places that play rock/metal music. Friendly bartenders and nice ambience, they also play requests. Music system can be a bit better but comfortable sound to have conversation.

PSY has friendly staff, great metal/rock music, fun regulars and is generally always a good time. The staff speak primarily Japanese so it's good and polite to at least know how to order in Japanese which is easy to find online.

The worst experience ever, we tried to stay there with my wife, she doesn't drink so she decided to eat something else, but this guy was rude saying that she must drink, it's absurd.

This place is so much fun! It's like hanging out in your metalhead buddy's living room just drinking and playing whatever music you want. Tiny place, but that only adds to its awesomeness. Friendly staff and good drinks.

Recommend going around 10 pm, earlier on the weekends, be aware it'll usually be packed on weekends. Prices are a bit higher than some other bars but it's definitely worth it, and still not expensive.

Beautiful night that started here, The art caught my attention once inside we stayed more than a drink. The staff are cool, friendly, and serve great drinks. The Oolong Hais are done really well here.

Hands down best place in Tokyo for all things related to Rock music. Staff and other regular customers became kind of my family replacement. All around genuinely nice people and lots of crazy nights.

Nice little rock/metal dive bar. Hidden gem if you are a fan of this music. It is quite small but it makes it up for qith interesting conversations with other people around you. Rock n roll!

Pretty sweet spot. My buddy and the bartender shared their interests in Japan based 90s-ish metal bands and they played solid music. Drinks were solid too
