Delivery staff and all nurses in the old side of hospital were a 5 + just excellent and beyond any words how committed and caring from UCC, really good top notch doctors. Appreciate that service manager came and asked for my experience of 5 day stay. The room not fancy but nurses were great! However, my full term baby was at NICU for one month for “traumatic birth” NICU nurses were hit and miss with quality of services (Somehow senior nurses were great the rest ok to outright immature and terrible ) After first week, my experience was HORRENDOUS. Communication poor at NICU and you felt “dumped off a cliff” to be a parent with no communication and support after they do all testing etc and you have a baby that doesn’t feed! The care team of doctors/nurses change everyday to no benefit to your baby; they did medical procedures without informing you like attempt to put an IV in my baby left temple while we not there and many things very traumatic. I was most shocked that there was no care plan or one communicated written. Although there was a care plan on the white board not once did anyone use it in my month there or explain roles and responsibilities. Very obvious that there is very little accountability for what they do there. No option for meaningful feedback but a superficial board in the back where you can write two sentences. Lack of consistent messaging especially young nurses, a different one each day, not always available and just took marching orders to NG tube feed baby through the nose where baby forced feed changing amounts everyday; I didn’t agree with always increasing amount baby puked ALL of feed quite regularly; this was always downplayed as “spit up”’ When you are not there nurses plunge baby full of milk via NG because it was always easier to feed baby and took less effort. Pressure to do intrusive measure like G tube, to go home, or you won’t be priority to get surgery if discharged. Cleaning / stock people coming in and watching you try to nurse. I was a strong advocate that g tube surgery was not needed and within two weeks at home my baby fed on his own fine and healthy and gained healthy weight. I am glad I didn’t take their recommendation to put a g tube I found it interesting that discharge literature from dietician advertised Nestle formula. All the beeping noise environment was terrible for a full term baby development no toys or development items. I always felt I had to be a strong advocate and trusted my gut and talk to head nurse if issue arise. You need to ask for doctor to speak to you or they don’t really bother and move on with their rounds. We made effort to make sure our presence and voice heard every Monday; Be prepare that after two minutes of speaking to you “I have to chart” is nurses common language Before pregnancy went to reproductive mental health to get information and within one hour of being interviewed by an intern ONCE with Dr Kennedy was given an anti psychotic prescription for daily use with no formal mental health history whatsoever just work stress and pregnancy. I was made to feel like a criminal somehow when I said no. Psychiatrist are very quick to drug people and are big pharma subsidized pill pushers and it is a downward spiral from there. 6 month after birth doing great and glad I just didn’t blindly do whatever these health professionals think is best for you. My baby would of had a permanent scar for a g tube; I would of been addicted to their medication which would of poisoned my infant via breast milk. Medication is the cheapest and easiest solution rather than offer counselling and meaningful service. I felt the system was designed to make you feel inadequate and that you needed to agree to drugs to get services. Just a flawed approach altogether from the very start. This put me off from getting services from a system I mistrusted especially going there voluntarily and was being proactive; but felt I was treated with no dignity and talked down to. They did not offer anything unique that I could not get from community healthcare.
I don't have words to describe the unbelievable!! How come a hospital for pregnant women does not have an ultra-sound in the emergency?? What I know there is a bunch with professionals who knows how to use it at NCU as a friend of mine had her premature baby there. Here is what happened with me, unfortunately. On Sunday Aug 13 around 6 pm I went to BC Women Labour and Delivery complaining about cramps and bleeding (I WAS 10 weeks pregnant). I was assessed by an UBC student, who was very kind. They did my blood test and a kind of scan (THEY DON'T HAVE ULTRA-SOUND ON WEEKENDS) which wasn't able to see if my baby was alive or not. They referred me to the Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic and I was told they would call me the next day and if I don't receive the call by noon, they asked me to call. I asked the senior resident if I should go to St Paul's hospital and she said no, as the next day I would do the ultra-sound. But if the cramps or the bleeding increased, I should come back. This WAS my first pregnancy and of course at 10:00 am on Monday - Aug 14 I called the clinic and I was told by a rude person that I have to wait for the call in the afternoon.... I patiently waited until 2:00 pm and then I called the clinic back. A very nice person answered the phone and told me that all nurses was clinicing and they are the only ones who book appointment and that I could leave a voice message, so they should called me back soon. I left a voice message as per instructions. Later that afternnon (around 5:00 pm) the cramps and bleeding got worse and I went back to the hospital. I checked-in myself and after 30 min I asked if I would be able an ultra-sound... and guess what??? THEY DON'T DO ULTRA-SOUND AT NIGHT!!!! That was more than enough for me and I left the hospital and head to St Paul's hospital. I got at St Paul's at 6:00 pm and they promptly assessed me and they were also not able to confirm if my babe was alive or not with their tests, so they referred me to a ultra-sound on next day Tuesday- Aug 15 and I was told I would receive a call from 8:00 am to 9:30 am. Guess what happened?? I got a call at 8:30 am and at 10:00 am I was at the St. Paul's ultra-sound department. Unfortunately, I found out that my babe wasn't alive any more and at 6:00 pm I had a D&C procedure and went home last night. THE UNBELIEVABLE PART??? I DID NOT RECEIVE A CALL FROM EARLY PREGNANCY ASSESSMENT CLINIC UNTIL NOW THAT I AM WRITING THIS EMAIL!!! BC staff couldn't have done anything for my babe and he/she stopped to grow at 8 weeks, just after I did my 1st ultra-sound but I sill don't believe that a hospital that suppose to look after pregnant women does not care as it should or do not provide the right information of what the parents should do. As I said in the first line of my email, I know how GOOD BC Women was for my friend who spent months there trying to hold her pregnancy and her baby was born with 6 months instead 9 months and she is beautiful and healthy.... so my expectation was that high and not even a small effort was done by the staff. I hope this never happens with another mother who look for assistance at BC Women hospital, as it is a national reference and please figure out what is happening in your our clinic, because they are not doing their job at all!!! Thank you St. Paul's team who helped and took such a good care of myself and my miscarriage!!!
Our journey to welcome our newborn at BC Women’s Hospital, touted as a beacon of exceptional care, unfortunately turned into an ordeal that left us deeply disappointed and concerned. While we acknowledge the efforts of some truly helpful nurses and doctors, the overarching experience fell far short of what we had hoped for during this pivotal moment in our lives. With the anticipation of a natural delivery, we embarked on what would become a 56-hour labor, a far cry from the serene experience we had envisioned. After hours of arduous labor, the medical team decided on a c-section, leading to a series of unexpected events that marred the joyous occasion. Following the delivery, my wife was taken to the recovery room, where she began experiencing excessive sweating despite her normal body temperature. This puzzling symptom was deemed insignificant, leading to a transfer to the Dogwood postpartum unit. It was here that the situation took a turn for the worse. As my wife attempted to nourish our newborn, she fainted, and our desperate calls for assistance seemed to fall on deaf ears, as staff members appeared occupied elsewhere. Hours turned into a grueling ordeal as my wife's condition deteriorated. The reassurances from the medical staff that her symptoms were merely hormonal were met with increasing skepticism, given her escalating distress. It was only after an agonizing wait of nearly 15 hours that the true extent of the issue was uncovered - internal bleeding, a critical concern that had gone unnoticed for far too long. The turning point arrived when a nurse, perhaps sensing the gravity of the situation, advocated for my wife's concerns to be taken seriously. Additional tests were finally conducted, revealing the alarming internal bleeding that demanded immediate attention. Back into the operating room my wife went, this time to address the life-threatening condition that had been initially dismissed. In the midst of this disheartening experience, we encountered a many of compassionate nurses and doctors who went above and beyond to provide care and support. Their dedication did not go unnoticed, and my wife and I are sincerely grateful for their efforts. The entire experience left us bewildered and deeply frustrated. The lack of prompt action and seemingly inadequate communication during those crucial hours when my wife's health was hanging in the balance was distressing beyond words. While we appreciate the eventual effort to correct the situation, the delay in diagnosis and treatment casts a long shadow over our overall impression of BC Women’s Hospital. While we acknowledge that medical institutions can encounter unforeseen challenges, it is imperative that they maintain a vigilant and empathetic approach to patient care, especially during moments as pivotal as childbirth. Our hope is that our feedback will contribute to a more proactive and attentive environment for future patients and their families. In the end, what should have been a joyous and unforgettable chapter in our lives was marred by a series of oversights that have left us with mixed feelings about our experience at BC Women’s Hospital. We are relieved that my wife eventually received the care she needed, but the journey to reach that point was far more arduous and unsettling than we could have ever anticipated.
Pregnancy If you have gestational diabetes, the team here will constantly monitor you and follow up. And you can always reach them during the day. Labour The staff here are amazing! I was induced and in labour for a total of 54 hrs combined. My health and the babies health were constantly being checked by every professional. You have a nurse with you for 24 hrs (until birth) checking baby and your vitals etc. Making you feel safe. All the nurses there during my 28ish hrs delivery were amazing! All of them! The anesthesiologist team were amazing! I met with two (a British or Australian lady and Sadiq Abdul) Dr. Abdul the anesthesiologist was able to insert my epidural at 9cm dilation with horrible contractions and a spinal fusion at a 30 degree curve, effortlessly. Amazing! He was very skilled! The senior OB (Dr. Woo) who delivered my baby was extremely experienced and very friendly. Made me feel safe. The birthing rooms are very big and clean. Postpartum We were being seen by pediatricians, OBs, anesthesiologists, nurses, lactation consultants, you name it! To ensure our welbeing was great! The rooms were very small, but okay for short stays. They will be having renovations to make these rooms bigger. I had a long stay for 4 days/3 nights, in the postpartum room, which made it a little difficult, but the care made up for it. Dining It was straightforward for moms in the postpartum rooms. You order what you'd like and add condiments such as ketchup, syrup for your pancakes etc. The instructions are easy to follow. The food was not bad, good enough to feed you and keep you full throughout the day. They say, food delivery is 45 mins, but it is more like 15 mins. Cafeteria The dads eat here. A little pricey (just like every other hospital) but the food there was good. If I have a second child, I will definitely be here again (but with a c-section).
I went into this hospital at 10cm dilated and ready to push. I was wheeled into the first open area past the waiting room with about 8 people in it watching me (it wasn't a private room even though they had them there). They proceeded to give me pain medication I didn't want and had been holding off of for the entire labor. They gave me an epidural which I also didn't want while I was clearly in active labour. I was forced to lay flat on my back after spending almost the entire labour upright and the doctor told me I had two pushes to get my baby out or he would give me a cesarean. Pushing out a baby in two pushes is probably the most unnatural thing a woman can do and leads to consequences in the future but his threat made me determined and it turns out it is possible. The epidural they gave me that I never wanted while I was in active labour ended up puncturing the area protecting the spinal column and led to a spinal headache. A spinal headache is basically when the fluid surrounding your brain starts leaking down your spinal column every time you stand up because the epidural needle punctured the area surrounding the spine. It is excruciatingly painful. I had to spend the first 4-6 weeks postpartum flat on my back in a dark room. I could barely care for my older daughter or keep an eye on her as I was in so much pain.I could stand for about a minute at a time before I'd have to lay flay on my back again. I feel like so many medical issues that arose after going into this hospital could have been avoided if they just let me push (preferably not while laying flay on my back), caught the baby and handed him to me.
My wife and I just had a baby at woman's and had a really bad experience. Our Labour was great but the after care was like being in prison. Parking. We arrived late at night and didn't see the signs about parking, nor was our focus really on parking but more on getting in the hospital to have a baby. We parked, paid for 24hrs parking and thought we where fine. After playing for an additional day at the meter without returning to the car on the 3rd day I finally get the ability to go out to the car with our bright start parking pass only to find 2 tickets on my car. Turns out I parked in a employee stall (1st ticket) and also a 4 hour limit stall (2nd ticket. The parking meters excepted my payments and gave no indication of restricted parking for the stall I entered, nor did the register nurse, bright start staff or other nursing staff ask or mention the restricted parking near the labour and delivery entrance. The other issue was the temperature of the room after our baby was born. 3 days we roasted at 28 Celsius, begging for someone to turn down the heat. We weren't allowed to keep our door open cause of the baby cry's and it wasn't until I informed the staff we where leaving despite out medical issues that they finally got someone from maintained down to fix the problem. It was like we had no rights to be comfortable. Instead of having the feeling of I can't believe they are letting us leave with the baby, we could only cry on the car ride home for getting free from the hellish heat and uncomfortable hospital stay.
The c-section doctors were excellent and Dr.Lyons with her group were amazing but the nurses at the Arbutus recovery room were horrible. They mad my wife and me feel very uncomfortable. Kate and Jen secretly kept asking my wife regarding her personal life at home and if there is domestic violence when there was no apparent reason to do so. When confronted, the nurse in charge Jen, said that there is no reason for all the interrogation and that it is just standard procedure but it did not feel like standard procedure. My wife does not even want to come to this hospital for future pregnancies. Our stay was uncomfortable and filled with assumptions and accusation. The nurses do not change baby diapers even when wife is alone and still recovering. They did not bathe our baby at all even after 24 hours. The rooms are the worst I have ever seen in my life, no one has come to clean the room, floors are sticky, walls are damaged, very disgusting and dirty. No actual couch or bed for husband to sleep on No hygiene control what so ever. Worst experience ever. Will file a formal complain with the department as well and will be contacting CBC news so that everyone in the lower mainland is aware as well. Whatever you do, never accept to recover in the Arbutus wing.
I would say first that all the nurses and doctors were very professional and caring and this is the most important thing you are looking for when you and your partner are about to have a baby. Special thanks to nurse Ling for detailed explanation on how to properly do the breastfeeding to my wife! They also gave us an extra day to stay for my wife to recover from unplanned urgent surgery - made a difference. She was also provided with food and all necessities for her and our baby. The building itself is in good condition, all the equipment was modern and had everything that might be needed. You can also buy a meal and/or coffee at the cafeteria or buffet if you're hungry. The minor things to improve are a lack of place to sleep for father in the room (had to sleep on mattress on the floor - although I did not care after 24 hours of no sleep), waiting for anesthesia an hour extra cause anesthesiologists were busy and waiting for urgent surgery cause there was another more serious surgery going on (still my wife was constantly checked on her condition)... But all in all, everything went good and our experience was very positive and I would recommend the place for meeting with your baby!
I went to the urgent care centre. My first time there they made me wait for 4 hours (pregnant without any food) before I could see a doctor who explained it was most likely morning sickness. But I still had to be discharged. The nurse literally told me the doctor would be down in 5 minutes. I waited for another hour. Then, nauseous and starving, I decided to leave. I returned a couple of days letter feeling much worse. I guess they made a negative comment on my patient file, because the nurse had an attitude since the beginning, and after admitting me told me: it's going to be a bit of a wait, so you can go somewhere else if you want. I replied that I was pregnant and coming in with a pregnancy related concern, and that I thought this was the place for that. The nurse replied: yeah, but you are only 7 weeks pregnant, so...I was so shocked!! So what, my pregnancy doesn't count because I am 7 weeks pregnant? How could a nurse say something like that to a patient? I gave this place two stars because the doctors were actually quite good, but the nurses were absolutely terrible. Nurses with that kind of attitude should not be allowed to graduate from nursing school.
Ultrasound dept 2 stars...Very disappointed with the service I received in the ultrasound centre yesterday. There was a resident doctor who covered me in gel... far too much gel it was ridiculous. And then the ultrasound was rushed at the end because they were running out of time, and because of this they kind of threw a towel at me and said they're done clean up. And then they left. No photos were given, and when we left the room we saw them sitting in a room on lunch. If you can help it, don't book an appointment between 11.15 and 12. Because they will just walk out and leave you. No communication during the scan... I had to keep asking questions and they kept shutting me down. Diabetes centre 5 stars... wonderful people. Very patient explaining everything to me. And super understanding of my fear of needles. Really lovely and experienced people... Although they only seem to be open Tues and Wed mornings to 2pm. Especially grateful for the help of Rena, Kecia, Maureen and Dr Thompson. Parking is expensive... but convenient as you can use a debit and credit card to pay.
This rating is only for the ultrasound team of the hospital. I did my 20 weeks ultra sound the one I was very excited for and it was way below my expectation. The sonographer was very grumpy and did not talk to me, she was training someone in the room on me, they were both frustrated and mad and werent paying attention to my questions, I asked multiple times where is this part, they either ignored me or said we dont know! What do you mean you dont know, you are measuring it, just be nice and explain what you are doing. When she was measuring the legs, my husband asked which bone is this and the sonogram laughed and said "men dont understand parts of the body at all, its pretty obvious that its a leg how can you not see?" Her attitude was very offensive and she ruined our day with her grupminess and unprofessional behavior. If that nurse reads this comment, she should know that her most important job is to smile and say congrats on the pregnancy and be patient and explain to a parent to be. I only get one chance to see the baby and she ruined it for me.
Went for my 20 week anatomy scan at BC Women's and I was very impressed with the staff at every step of the way. My ultrasound tech was Erin and she was absolutely fantastic! She was very kind and thoughtful and she spent so much time with us and answered any questions we had for her (within her legal limits of course). We left with a bunch of great pics to share with family. The hospital took great precautions to protect us against Covid-19 while still allowing support people to attend the appointment, which meant the world to us. Update: I received more care at BC Women's in the second half of my pregnancy, including an external cephalic version (to turn my breech baby) and also for my labour and delivery. Once again, I was so impressed with the care I received. The nurses, techs, doctors - everyone- were all so kind, patient, and professional. I always felt heard and respected. And if you're lucky enough to deliver in the Cedar ward, those rooms are beautiful and comfortable. I will definitely choose to deliver my next baby at BC Women's.
Nurses are amazing and some doctors better than others, but I went though 3 shift changes and sometimes never saw a doctor as they were so busy. I felt they just wanted to pass you onto the next shift with no end. Great doctor care and detail, each different. Love the people who helped give birth. They are angels. But be warned - the nicu is a hell hole of its own of no staff to be seen, no masks, in evening staff on their phones and empty at 3 am. Lots of egos among younger nurses and maintaining status quo and the most intrusive measure ( cut into your baby stomach for g tube and do it now for priority while at hospital ) that place is so poorly designed you don’t even know how to use the lights and the sink splashed all over u and takes 10 minutes to fill a baby bath tub given tap is sensor Yep in nicu and they could care less of what you think. There is no accountability to clients and all about status quo of keeping you there when you sometimes shouldn’t be there especially if it’s all for numbers and doctors egos
I just had amazing experiences with BC Women’s Hospital. My pregnancy had some complications so I needed to be in the hospital few times before labour. Always received the best services from all the staff, who were always welcoming, comforting, professional and lovely. The infrastructure is also great. My experience was the same awesome during and after my labour (which was about 30 hours long). All the staff gave me all the assistance, great treatment, confidence, options, comfort and love I needed to bring my little girl to the world safe. Everything from start to end was fantastic, including the room that was super large and comfortable, including with big bathtub and large bed for my husband. I have no words to thank BC Women’s Hospital enough. Special kudos to all the nurses who are heroes, especially Dany and Iris who was my guardian angels during the peak of my pain and exhaustion. All my gratitude to the Hospital and it’s wonderful team.
Wonderful place to give birth however I've had 2 bad experiences during my first and third birth. I don't want to sound sexist but the first lady who was trying to give me an epidural in 2008, told me to sit still and shut up or she wont be able to give the epidural.. I was shaking in fear as it was my first birth at just 20 years old... the nurse handling my premature baby was very rough... very bad experience. 3rd birth in 2020, the doctor on call which was also a woman, wasn't compassionate at all. She was annoyed... and told me to go home as there was nothing she could do. I had an emergency c section 2 days later...... 1st lady was blonde, nurse was east Indian and the last was Chinese... I never liked Chinese doctors. No compassion or any bedside manners. (I am Chinese so I'm very aware of how our culture is despite what white people say) Anyways, I've held in my experience long enough and I feel much better.
My wife is 12 weeks pregnant and has been heavily bleeding for last 4 weeks. We have been to ER at Loins gate hospital numerous times but doctors couldn't find the cause of bleeding. Contacted women's hospital to find if we can come and see the doctors there. The response I got was "we don't see patients without referral" I am law abiding tax payer and for last 15 years have been donating money to children hospital hoping they would provide care for ppl in need but I was a fool. Wasted my hard earned money to hear sorry we can't help. These ppl in health care are in for money, no sympathy for ppl going through hard times. Good bye children hospital... you lost a donor and will blog about service I got to make sure you loose more funding by showing the public what kind of services you offer. Above all when I asked for the agents name, she refused to give her name out. Very poor service.
Re: Emergency Department: If u ACTUALLY have an emergency, u get attended to in a very timely manner. An emergency is what the Emergency Department is for. Non-emergencies is what late-hours clinics in the community are for. Having Children’s Hospital be a part of the same complex as Women’s is GREAT for high-risk natal deliveries. For example, my niece had to be taken out of her mom via caesarean section, and she took her first breath too early, inhaling some amniotic fluid. With the two hospitals being physically connected, my niece was whisked into Children’s Hospital’s Neonatal ICU very quickly, and treated very quickly. While she recovered in the NICU, her mom recovered in a room at Women’s; with the two hospitals being connected, her mom could visit very frequently :-) I myself have received and continue to receive excellent care, at one of Women’s specialized clinics/centres.
The women at the hospital are very nice, but their phone service needs some serious work. I called yesterday and after being transferred around countless times from the pre-natal screening where I had my tests done to the assessment center, I was told by Nancy that they wouldn't see me since I didn't live in their district (I don't live in Vancouver, but I had my tests done there). It was an extremely urgent matter since I'm almost 17 weeks pregnant and they couldn't care less. I asked if they'd see me in emergency and she said no. I ended up going back to my walk-in clinic in Vancouver (I don't have a family doctor) and they saw me right away. Can you believe that a walk-in medical clinic treated me and helped me better than a specialized hospital??! I will NOT be delivering at this hospital under any circumstances. Stay away!
Labour went really well great nurses delivered but had the worst nurses for everything else. I spent hours trying to get my daughter to sleep and when I finally did a stupid nurse came in and woke her up at 2am. 2AM. My daughter lost it and so did we because we could never get her to sleep..and I had a terrible day and a grumpy daughter the rest of the day. Admittance was horrible as well my girlfriend's contractions were 4 mins apart and the lady next to her was 20 mins apart showing no pain..so, Like the squids they are, they let the lady with no pain and 20 min apart contractions in first. Funny right? No. They also didn't have a bed available for 5 women going into labour. Don't go to this hospital, I've been to many others and seen much more success and common sense.
My daughter was born in this hospital this year and the service was exceptional. I didn't know what to expect with having my first baby. The nurses were all so warm and friendly. My room was large and had a tub and large bench type area for dad to lay down. They had heated towels and blankets they use during delivery. They give you a new small pack of newborn diapers and dry cloths. The mesh underwear they give you are the most comfortable thing you will ever wear and if you ask for more they give it to you. The food was awesome from the cafeteria. You can order a meal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with lots of variety. I highly recommend the chicken wrap and burger if you want something filling after delivery. I hope if I have another baby to be delivering here again!
Blown away by the care and dedication of everyone who helped us through both deliveries at bc women’s. After complications thanks to baby with my first labour I was determined to have a better experience. The staff especially those from South Community worked so hard to give me what was progressing as a genuinely positive labour experience. There was a complication at the end due to baby and the team responded so quickly she was out within 7 minutes of noticing an issue. I’m so appreciative of the genuine consideration to give me a labour I wanted and beyond comforted and grateful that when things were out of our control they responded quickly and did what was needed to save baby. We will always be so grateful to the staff and feel very lucky our children were born here
Some staff are very nice and gentle, like An-Julie, Leslie. But procedures got my wife suffer from pain a lot more. We are having our first baby delivery here. My wife was waiting for 2 hours, and contraction went to 9cm before she can see a doctor, which was our OB as well. She just came to check my wife and said she’s ready to birth the baby then went home. Only one nurse and myself helped my wife to delivery. No doctor was there until my baby head is out, and my wife had to hold the push to wait for a the doctor ! My baby is born with low temperature, the hospital can not even provide a good temperature for baby. Every year there is million of dollars is donated to this hospital, but a small problem can not even be fixed. As a father, I am very frustrated.
Great doctors and nursing staff. My wife came here for her first delivery and had a C-Section. Dining staff are incredibly stupid and unprofessional.... I ordered lunch for my wife with a side of Spaghetti and they never asked me if she wanted marinara sauce. I’ve never ever seen dry spaghetti noodles served anywhere in the world before but it happened here and when I called to politely request that we get some marinara sauce the dining room employee rudely answered with, “Actually.... We do not make SECOND trips for that kind of thing.” When I asked isn’t that kind of normal for those two to go together? She responded, “No.... Actually it’s not....” Very unprofessional, I guess I’ll be getting the rest of her food from this point forward.
The post postpartum rooms which are the place after recovery was terrible! They gave my wife and i the smallest private room and i had to sleep on a dirty mattress on the floor! I found a mouse trap in the room! It was depressing.I couldn’t believe it was BC Women’s Hospital. The room and Washrooms was dirty. We were there for 4 days and no one came out even to clean the room or washroom! They came out once we we’re discharging from the hospital. We really got depressed on those days on postpartum room. I’m hoping manager see this comment and act fast. Staff and personnel was really perfect and professional. They were really kind and helpful. Apart from the disaster roomafter delivery, highly recommend this hospital for delivery
Sick and tired of this handicap behavior ! Went here to get a prescription that increases breast milk since my daughter has been in the NICU for 87 days , she can't eat like a regular baby would .. They are refusing to help me since I'm not 6 weeks postpardom ? Absolutely disgusting . I can't believe they refuse pateints in my situation was told "go to the walk in clinic " like I'm from Prince George i got airvacced here , i don't have a vehicle or any resources :( they where about to let me see a doctor until a nurse came up and told them not too after ID been waiting 15 minutes and gave the chick my care card i am horrified with there behavior and the fact they REFUSE to let me see a doctor
Very Happy. My wife and I recently had our first child here. All of the doctors and nurses were very professional, caring, helpful and kind. Especially nurse Emma, Yen, Money and Mary. These nurses went above and beyond their job parameters to make sure we were okay. Special shout out to Emma who stuck around with us to make sure we were okay and take photos even though it was way past her shift! Everyone who worked here were really passionate in what they do and my wife and I are very grateful to have delivered our first baby here. It gave me real piece of mind knowing that my wife and baby were in very good hands.
My partner had a heart problem, I called to their heart department and it went straight to voicemail, so I left them with my contact info as requested. After a few days of no reply, I decided to send an email to BC's Women asking if they could let the heart department know my situation, but they said that the ONLY way to contact them is thru the phone. So I called them one more time, and again it went straight to the voicemail, and I again left my contact info. Now, its been almost 2 weeks and still no call back! Her health could have gotten a lot worse in those 2 weeks! Really disappointed!
We had an amazing experience! Everyone was so nice, well informed, super caring, I had a C section and I felt no pain, recovery has been super fast, doctors and nurses were awesome, room and hospital are modern and we'll equipped… except for the fact that dad slept on a mattress in the floor… food varied from ok to very delicious, we got everything we needed, we just loved the experience. Our little one is healthy and doing great Special thanks to all our nurses Andrea, Danielle, Chedith and Lisa and also Dr. Katie Seligman and Dr. Michelle ❤️ Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I had day surgery today and every single staff member that I interacted with were so so lovely. I have never had such a calm time at the hospital, everyone really helped me not feel anxious in the slightest even having an IV in which is a huge phobia of mine went smoothly and didn’t cause me anxiety like it usually does. There was even a dog that came to say hi beforehand which was so great for calming any anxiety I was having. I had anxiety when I got to the hospital but by the time I went into the OR all of that anxiety was completely gone. 10/10 staff ☺️
My wife arrived at the hospital pregnant (8 weeks), bleeding, and they told us there was no available ultrasound. Guess what? The doctor said:” the ultrasound team will call you through the next week and book a day for you to take the ultrasound.” This is unbelievable and unacceptable! Because she was bleeding on the weekend, we must wait until Monday. I’m wondering how this place which called itself a woman hospital, does not have an ultrasound for pregnant available for emergencies? It's reasonable and more than necessary an improvement for them.
Just wow, my baby got transferred here from SPH and wow, the food is a million times better, made to order, I had a burger and fries with ketchup! At SPH I starved! The nurse there had made me a grilled cheese, and even found ketchup for me, but it was on dry whole wheat toast, squished with white cheese, I felt bad that I couldn't eat it. Here I'm able to room WITH my newborn baby. They got me everything I needed without having to ask! I love it. Best hospital for child and parent. Theres even a washer so I dont have to suffer in dirty clothes.
I see complaints from locals about wait times and whatever the common hospital rants are. My wife had pregnancy complications and we were flown in. The staff were great! Very helpful and as a visitor they helped find a place to stay transportation and all of that. When health conditions from around the province are being flown in and you have to wait 6 hrs for emergency for a smaller issue. Remember we have been to our local hospitals already and because of severity not choice have been put into health central. Thankyou to BC Women's Hospital
Went in for my 20week ultrasound. Karen, my technician hand absolutely ZERO beside manner. Right from the vet go, she was cold, clearly didn’t want to be there and when I had a breakdown and started crying made me feel horrible I wasn’t focusing on the baby. How could I when my eyes were full of tears?? Try to avoid KAREN if you ever go here. Felt like a second class citizen. Very traumatic experience for what was supposed to be an exciting fist time “meeting” of my baby. I ended up waking out as I felt so violated from the technician.
Rating in the middle because my laparoscopy went well with no issues, but low because when the nurses discovered I had a slightly irregular heartbeat during prep, they admitted they had only used the ECG machine on each other, and were clearly VERY unfamiliar with the technology while conducting the procedure. You can imagine my stress and mental state as I was trying to prepare for my first surgery. Still waiting to hear back from the complaints department after I emailed a week ago. I expected a way higher standard of care.
Avoid this place at all cost! We were going through a critical pregnancy and We needed a test done for Down syndrome detection. They made a dramatic mistake and mixed my spouse blood with the sample which resulted in a 3 weeks delay to know the test results. By then we will exceed the 5 month of pregnancy. I guess same as everywhere in Canada due to skilled worker shortage they are hiring whatever people they can find to play with your family health. You basically there like a lab rat for inexperienced doctors and nurses.
My wife was in BC Womens hospital and the nurses are amazing there and some of the Drs as well ! Only reason I gave it only 4 stars was some , but not all of the Drs we had were very impersonal and treated us like another number . We also had a Dr that was very unprofessional when it came to gossiping loudly and bad mouthing at the nurses station about the GP we have as a family Dr back in northern BC . The nurses are amazing though can't say enough good things about how they cared for my wife .
The hospital has wide area. The parking area is very wide and good. The payment for parking is expensive a little bit, in downtown and this kind of area it is expected. After parking your vehicle you have to go inside and pay if you pass the first automatic door at the main entrance of the hospital. For inside service you have to follow the sign that located the location of services your need. The staffs are very good. I impressed about the friendly staff with helpful service. Thank you!
We had an AMAZING experience delivering at BC Women's. This was our 2nd child but first time delivering at BCW. EVERY nurse we worked with were pleasant and professional. Everything was organized and we felt were were under the best care possible. We were also pleasantly surprised how good of the food was and how we get to pick what we'd like. We are so grateful to have the opportunity to stay at BCW this time. THANK YOU BC Women's and the entire team we are so grateful for you.
Very helpful nonjudgemental medical team,I cant assume for all units or wards here but my experience so far has been challenging and emotional and the staff in the firsquare unit have gone and above to better help understand my struggles and help me learn how to retrain my brain. Very much appreciated by me and my daughter and will be firever grateful. Thank you fir medical and pediatric care! Xoxo. From your very sleep deprived patient and adorable daughter. Xoxo.
The staff are excellent and most of the facility seems nice but SWEET BABY MOSES! The arbutus wing is trash. 3rd world hospital conditions. Apparently at this hospital 70 % of births here are done by c-section those who endure that hardship go to a recovery ward in the tiniest rooms all ghetto trashed with violent toilets. New father's like me have to sleep on the floor and some of the rooms have windows into hallways?? Please rebuild this wing.
I'm going into my 4th month of pregnancy and I am completely blown away by the doctors here. They are very supportive, professional, & sympathetic. I have had some complications along the way but I have been taken care of very well here. For any women who need to go here for anything pregnancy related i would come here. These doctors will make you feel safe and cared for. They have done more than enough. Thank you very much <3
This hospital loves unnecessary interventions. I gave birth here and have a permanent injury due to what happened to me. Be warned. If you aren’t laboring or birthing quickly, they will want to rip your baby out. Some of the nurses were kind. Many were not. I was surprised at this because I had heard good things about the nurses. I still suffer with grief and depression over my birth here. I will never have another baby here.
I had a procedure done here recently and the staff in the surgical unit were amazing. I was an anxious mess and they were all so friendly and made me feel so at ease. I’ve never seen a group of staff so calm that treat you like a human and not just a patient they need to get in and out. They also made sure I had the right next steps and medications I needed to be as pain-free as possible. I have absolutely zero complaints.
I have been on a waitlist for the CCDP for perhaps close to or over 3 years. I have contacted the clinic multiple times to see if I am still on the waitlist/ to see where I am on the waitlist and I was assured that I was still on the waiting list. My doctor just called me to tell me that the CCDP cancelled my referral due to no response from me. I was never contacted by this clinic in any way.
My experience here has been nothing but great. The nurses and doctors were very friendly and understanding of my situation. They made me feel welcomed and calm at all time. The counselor that helped me at first kept in touch with me and would email/call me to make sure I was doing well. It was very thoughtful of her and I felt like I had someone I could talk to anytime.
We just had our baby at BC Women’s and me and my wife couldn’t be more pleased . We were placed in the cedar rooms , which had everything we needed . Doctors and nurses were very good and attentive . We were allowed to stay for 3 nights and every couple hours nurses came in and checked up on us. Special shout out Dr. Yuen and her forcep work . You guys are the best .
I've visited many hospitals and I'd have to say this is by far the best hospital. Reason being is that the staffs are amazing. The staff at the women's health centre and CARE program make you feel super welcome and make you feel very cared for. The environment makes you feel very comfortable and safe. Thank you for your great service!!
I had an appointment at the EPA Clinic and the staff couldn't have been better. They were super supportive and answered questions I didn't know I had. They go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and secure. I felt completely at ease and left feeling super positive about the next steps. I can't recommend them enough.
Bad experience for the after labor, just like stay in the hell, nurse are. good. and. helpful, but doctor's are just not that efficient. They just let you wait and wait and wait, and recommend stay one more night one after another. Don't think will ever come back again any time in the future! Hate this hospital so much!
The Doctors and nurses are fantastic, although having four people selling things come by in the morning after having my baby and needing rest was ridiculous. Only after I mentioned it to the nurse by lunch did she offer to put a do not disturb sign up. I would have thought that would have been done automatically.
The best place I've been to! I have dealt with chronic debilitating pelvic pain for 11 years and in those 11 years this is the only place that has cared about me, my pain and what I want and need to deal with this pain. My mom was so relieved that she literally broke down and cried in the doctors office.
Would not recommend for COVID-19 testing. They make you wait on hold for hours before giving out a Lab Visit Number that you require to access your test results. I have still not received mine since getting tested yesterday. As I write this, approaching 1 hour of listening to hold music.
Health care is free. But there are No Doctors. The entire hospital floor is filled with health workers. Not a single qualified doctor. Had to wait for more than 3 hrs without food. If you are taking your wife for delivery here, please rethink. There are NO DOCTORS available on time.
Please know which building you are needing to enter before traveling to this location. The property is HUGE and it’s possible to park much further away than necessary. If you enter from and park immediately you could literally walk a mile to get to the building you are needing.
Horrible shared room experience after delivery. It was almost a day later until one of the nurses started to even listen to us... Really frustrating specially after hours and hours of sleeplessness. A shared room after delivery makes no sense and they should re-think it ...
Tha staff are really friendly and helpful. If pragnant women has MSP insurance it is the right place for her otherwise the prices are really high. For example just showing up in emergency room for a simple pain will cost at least C$800. However the services are seamless.
We received OUTSTANDING care, attention and guidance throughout the delivery of our first baby at BC Women's Hospital. Thank you to Dr. Rosengarten, Dr. Wong and all the maternity nurses and support staff. Absolutely fantastic health care teams at this hospital!
Our delivery here was really abnormal. The staff responded flawlessly. Aftercare here has been fantastic as well. The staff has been very thorough and involved in our health. Parking is brutal though, it has probably the smallest parking spaces in Vancouver.
I haven't been to this hospital for a number of years but had to go here this week. The gentleman at the information kiosk was very polite and helpful. His directions were clear and concise. The nurses here really put their patients first which is awesome!
Their knowledge and skill level are poor. Doctors can not solve complicated problems and one of the nurses does not even know how to use needle properly. Unfortunately our health care system is a failure. Waste of taxpayers’ money. Hope for a change.
We had our first baby 6 weeks ago. You made the experience memorable. Thank you for the wonderful care and support for all the days we were there. You are the best hospital one could ever wish for. Looking forward to having our next birth (s) there:)
Besides all the worry, the doc was very gentle and soft to aid our situation with mis carriage. The nurses and the doc at EPAC centre was exceptional. Very very recommend this to be the very best of hospital for the women's hospital.!!
If you are just getting a Covid test and not pregnant or you don’t work in health care don’t go to this clinic. They will send you to 1290 Homer St. and now you have to pay for the test- $45. or $65. depending on what you are getting.
Having few good experiences with Medical staff in the past, I am very grateful to have come to BC Women's. For the first time, I finally felt like my medical concerns were valid and I am grateful to have received their care.
The nursing staff is incredibly supportive and attentive. They were kind and informative. The Dr. was effective and very good at his job but a little bit cold. Overall, would highly recommend this clinic to other women.
The physiotherapist Marcella Paoletti at BC Women’s Hospital offers fantastic service. She respond in a super efficient manner. She is skilled in her work and She is very friendly. I highly highly highly recommend her.
I have had mammograms and biopsies at this hospital. The doctors, operators, nurses, and anyone working here is lovely and caring. They explain everything, they make you comfortable. Best care. Always grateful.
I have delivered my second son at BC Women's hospital and I had again great experience. All the staff is very kind, understanding and willing to help. I am grateful for every assistance I was given. Thank you!
Nurse team gave my wife the tender support and generational wisdom I desperately needed after giving birth during the pandemic. They were reassuring, kind and so encouraging. 1000% recommend! Love you guys.
Worst hospital for women giving birth probably in the entire world. My wife had NO EPIDURAL throughout the entire process even though we begged for one and the hospital staff kept telling us we'll have it.
Great Doctors and Nurses, but the tiny parking stall is annoying, almost guaranteed door ding. I got a Tesla and I can tell people are being very careful but however I still got door ding on both side.
My wife had 3 beautiful and healthy babies here and our experiences were absolutely wonderful and perfect. Especially considering babies 2 and 3 were twins! (Thank you, Dr. Blumenthal). Thumbs up!
The staff and drs are great, but the actual maternity ward is left over from the 1970s! Unlike every other hospital there is no chair bed for dad, your on the dirty floor with a Matt….
I just wish I could give BC Women's Hospital 10/5 stars. The staff were down right incredible for the birth of our first child. Can't imagine that experience without them.
My wife gave birth here and all staff were very helpful and caring. Room was big and clean, nurse was really nice and compassionate. We appreciate the staff greatly.
Had my first born delivered here. Top notch facility but what really gets this place 5 stars are the staff.. every single nurse and dr we met was amazing.
Friendly, and professional staff on numerous encounters with various departments. Free parking during the COVID-19 pandemic period, as of November 2021.
I was in for a day surgery today and was impressed by the care given! All the nurses were exceptional and made me feel very comfortable. Thank you!
I delivered both my babies here. I had a very positive experience. Friendly nurses and experienced doctors.
