Just visited B&N this afternoon. Looking to purchase some record boxsets before going back home. They have quite the range of stock however, it’s all behind the counter stacked with spines forward on display. Unless you have the eyes of a cat, it’s impossible to see what’s for sale. There were two members of staff milling around having a lovely chat away from the counter. I requested to have a closer look at the merchandise as it was impossible to see the selection by spines only. What occurred next was the most obnoxious and arrogant display of manners and customer service I have ever experienced. No! It was not possible to go near the products and joyfully browse the music sets as they were BEHIND THE COUNTER! I was expected to guess the boxset and ask the member of staff to hand me the item I wished to inspect prior to purchase. I will point out neither of the staff members were close to the desk. The man was mute, the young lady yelled these instructions to me from across the floor, like I was a burden to her day. Neither wanted to spend the time with me discussing and talking about the music represented. I would have walked out with at least three sets if had not been for their heartbreaking and dripping disdain for doing their jobs. Barnes and Noble and their staff strip out the joy of the art they sell and lay bare the very reason the High St is dying. I took a trip to Rough Trade after and spent a mint. They were exceptional. Night and day. Barnes and Noble you are a waste of space. Shut down and give the Independents who knows and love the creative art they sell the business they rightfully deserve.

When I went to pick up my items, one of the store managers, a woman ( black lady), told me that the system showed I had picked up the items yesterday, even though I live in New Jersey and placed the order at 6:30 PM. How could I pick them up in New York at 7 PM yesterday? I explained that I had never picked up the items, and I asked her to check the security cameras, but she didn't apologize and made me feel uncomfortable as if I were lying about picking them up. She told me to come back tomorrow. I live in New Jersey and only work in New York on Thursdays and Fridays, and my workplace is a 40-minute walk from this store. And also I am currently pregnant, so it's challenging for me to walk a lot because I get tired easily. It's the store's mistake that they handed my items to someone else without checking the ID card, so why should I waste my time and money? I feel really upset. I request an apology from the store for causing me this problem !!!

Staff us great and that's why they get the 2 Stars, but definitely could use some changes for their book signings / photo ops. Another B&N does them in NYC and I have been there for signings with Bruce Springsteen and others where they sign the books when they get there, do a photo op, and you get handed the book by a staff member. I traveled from Florida for the Arnold Schwarzenegger signing this week and the photographers were awful. Two of them, nobody knew which one to look at, and most pictures either came out blurry or Arnold was looking down during the photos. The reactions of people leaving, and the community online show that a change should be made as many people left upset. Grateful to have the opportunity for these signings and photo ops, but definitely expect better. Hopefully this gets changed to the way most book stores do Photo Ops in the future.

Really disappointed. Not going back there again.

I suppose it is a convenient location for tourists passing through the area. The staff are courteous and helpful. Has a very small supply of book lovers gifts. So if you're going shopping for a holiday or birthday gift that is not only a book, this isn't the place to go. Getting rid of the cafe and adding more books, or adding more bathroom stalls, are my suggestions for this location. I wouldn't buy the food in the cafe again since I've been there a handful of times and it always tasted old and stale (been there different days of the week at different times). Bathrooms really need to be kept in better/cleaner condition. No, I would not especially recommend this particular location.

oh my gosh. SUCH A GOOD BOOKSTORE. i usually love barnes and noble, but this one is something else. has all of the different genres you can think of. a whole section for kids, which i think is really important for bookstores. they have a cafe upstairs so you can sit and relax. the choice of books is endless.... it took me more than 2 hours to go through the entire bookstore and finally pick a book. (my bank account said no.) some of the hardest decisions of my life was deciding what books i wanted... had more than 10 in my hand and only could leave with 1... so so hard. but such a good bookstore. they have everything from history, to dogs, to rom-coms and thrillers.

I work on the same block as this Barnes and Noble and use it often for me reading needs. I went in today to get my kids a Christmas and Hanukkah book. Christmas book was easy to find right in front, on display...both secular and Christian oriented. I looked and looked and couldn't find any Hanukkah books. Finally, I asked someone...they (children's Hanukkah books) were hidden behind a column in the religion section of Barnes and noble. I have never had this problem before. I will go to a few others that I frequent and see if this is a Barnes and noble thing or a 5th Ave thing...I will be cutting out one or both depending on what I find.

I'm a real big fan of books and every time in I'm in Manhattan I usually stroll around this Barnes and Noble. Unfortunately last time I asked an employee if she worked there (I was at the children's session) and she simply looked at me and said, very unkindly: "yes but not in this area". She didn't ask me back what was I looking for (which was not a kids book), didn't offer to search for the person in charge of that zone. Just simply turned her back and walked away. I then left without buying the book I wanted and will probably get it on Amazon where I don't have to be mistreated. ‍♀️

Hard covers are currently 50% off! This Barnes and Noble is very well stock. There is a book on everything and every genre. You can also get coffee on the second floor. There are a lot of gift item options which are great for the holiday, birthdays, and other anniversaries/celebrations! It is located on a busy ave so I will say if you are window shopping to dedicate 30-40 minutes here because it is a large bookstore. The staff are amazing!

  • Lena P

I'm a member. More of ebooks on Nook person but do get the occasional physical copy. Always nice to check out different accessories beyond books. Nice coffee shop. Clean organized and pleasant to explore. The only thing that got me upset about my recent visit is that the coupon I received for updating to a new membership didn't apply to my order and no one at B&N knows why. Sucks. Even 1-800 customer service didn't help.

I enjoyed my visit to Barnes and Nobles on a Sunday afternoon. A huge selection of books of course and a pleasant vibe. I liked the section on books pertaining to the history of New York near the entrance. There were plenty of seats available at Starbucks for a snack. I like that there are signs that say there’s a 30 minute limit to sit there. It seems fair that others have a chance to sit as well.

  • Pavel Yanshevskiy

A rude, purely educated but easily judging person is the last one who you expect to meet at the customer service and information desk. "Oh, I'm gonna have my lunch tomorrow with this kind of people" is exactly what she has said to her colleague while I was checkin my list.... Barnes and Noble, you do deserve better employees, I'd like to believe in that.

Good location, good selection of most items. The only Bible versions left on the shelves are King James, New King James and one New International version. They are getting rid of Bibles, it seems. Either that or they sold out for Christmas. What they don't physically have, they will order or have a different location save the item for you if you want.

  • Mor Eshel

Horrible treatment. This lady from second floor staff. Asked her regarding books no reply. Asked why the bathroom was closed for 30 minutes. Only reply is - come back tomorrow!!! What?? What is that? I instantly put down the 6 books I was buying. Told the lady they just lost one hell of a customer! Too bad!!

Wonderful bookstore on 5th Av., with a plethora of exciting book titles, toys, magazines and other goodies. The Starbucks on the 2nd floor is great for relaxing while sipping on a cup of coffee and reading through your newly acquired literature. Please visit and enjoy yourself. We loved it!

Great Barnes and Noble location on 5th Avenue. It is very clean and neat. Fantastic customer service! This Barnes and Noble has 3 floors in total. Great Starbucks Cafe on the second floor to relax and unwind Many, many options for books, gifts, toys, etc. Highly recommended.

  • Kathleen Denman

Amazing store! It had everything I was looking for and stuff I didn't know existed. Great Harry Potter memorabilia section. They also have a blind date section where they wrap up books and just give brief descriptions. It's a fantastic way not to judge a book by its cover.

  • Shmuel Daffner

Been years since I've been to a BnN and this was a pretty nice branch. Would be nice to see a bit more balanced selection, feels like the brand is leaning so hard in one direction that it's promoting a particular agenda more than fostering a true love of reading.

As you all know, it can get very hot in NYC summers. When I went to visit this Barnes and Noble, i was extremely excited as we don’t have one near me and I always have good experiences there. Here, however, that was not the case. Firstly, I

12.27.22 - it didn’t feel like a fun bookstore anymore. It just feels very corporate or strictly transactional. We weren’t even allowed to sit on the floor to read some of the children’s books, which was off putting. Nevertheless, the staff

I was here a few weeks ago for Kelly Clarkson's Chemistry album signing. The store was clean, and the staff was very friendly. They managed to keep the line moving, and people were able to shop while it was happening with no problems. They

Not what I thought it would be. As a Canadian I hear lots of Americans hype up this store a lot but my experience there sucked. You aren't allowed to sit on the floor to read or even rest a minute. The Starbucks is not really Starbucks as

Me and my friend had to take a fat piss, but are we approach the bathroom, a random man is blocking entrance into it, making my piss almost come out. My friend takes a seat in the Starbucks cafe and immediately one second later a 4 foot 5

Racially profiled. Just wanted to kill some time and look at some records on my break and was followed around from the moment I walked in. Had 3 employees come up to me 3 different time to ask if I needed help when I was looking around

I didn't even realize that bookstores still existed!! I love the large selection that makes this store. Three floors of bound experiences. The place was rammed but the lines moved fast, not a bother at all. They even had an extensive

The main selling point of a bookstore is the vibe and Barnes & Noble has it just right. Spent hours exploring their collection. Although not very complete, they have many of my interests, more than what I could afford to buy today.

  • Maria

If you love books than you've come to the right place, best part is that you can buy a cup of tea or coffee at Starbucks, inside the shop and read the book you came to buy.. It makes the store just super cozy. Love this place

  • Sadiki S.

Loved that staff were able to help me find what I needed and that they were professional and friendly. However, the fact that security was basically following me and waiting at the door was not okay. We need to do better.

  • Roberto Estaba

Who doesn't love a bookshop? This one is well stacked, well organised and with helpful staff. I found what I was looking for, namely NYC specific books for all ages, as well as a couple of toy gifts. Well worth a visit

  • AC M

Definitely come here when you can at 5th Avenue! They have a huge selection of books! I can stay here for hours, bought some. They have a cafe so you can grab a bite and then go back to find the books you need! Enjoy!

  • Lyubomira Lazarova

I am delighted by the great choice of world classics and contemporary literature you can find there as well as some amazing gifts for book lovers. It easily became one of my favourite places in New York City …

  • Lana

Very attentive employees who found me the exact books I was looking for. Clean and welcoming space with a warm cafe on the second floor. It offers a Starbucks where you can purchase a drink and read your book.

  • Ariana Ledesma

If you're a book lover, get the membership! It's annual and inexpensive. Also you get discounts on the Starbucks inside. They have amazing books selection and the arts and crafts are soooooo beautiful!

  • Philip Louie

Really big bookstore in the heart of Midtown Manhattan! Come here to browse the magazine racks, sit down in the Starbucks cafe, or peruse the multiple floors of books. There's something for everyone!

  • Noah

The YA section was smaller than I had hoped it would be but other than that it’s a great store. Staff was very lovely! It did feel like a library uo stairs rather than a bookstore

  • Harrison Kanarick

An older Barnes and noble with all the essentials. The cafe was good but how could there be no outlets to plug in your devices. That’s too inconvenient for me if I need to work.

  • Teresa Dee

There are not many bookstores left. I love to go and browse the books and see inside the illustrations. This holiday season, everyone should visit Barnes and Nobles

  • Ziesook You (유지숙)

Very crowded. But locstion is good. ( close to the time square)There are a lot of books. I saw art books. Love it. There is a Starbucks inside.

  • Jennifer Johns

Two floors of books and knick knacks. The second floor has a restaurant that seems to be very popular with a large seating area.

  • Tiffany Ashley

They were super clean and loved the location on the second floor the view was beautiful!
