Worst location of B&N I’ve ever been to due to the repetitively rude staff. I had what I would call a reverse “Karen” experience, (apologies to all lovely ladies who are named Karen) where the employee was the rude aggressive person. I had an armful of books and wanted to continue to shop so asked if I could leave the books behind the check out desk, I was accused of trying to shoplift. Told I was not allowed to use my own shopping bag (canvas book bag I have taken to the book store for years that was actually purchased at a book store) then Followed around by JoeAnne (a key holder) and accused again of shop lifting while looking at books. All because I preferred to carry a bag to put my books in rather than a shopping basket, I explained I had back trouble and it was physically difficult to carry their basket because it put the center of gravity farther away from my body. joeAnne got super aggressive, wanted to know which bookstore I usually shopped at and where it was and then she got even ruder when she was unfamiliar with the location. The rudest staff I’ve ever encountered. All this while I was walking around with my six year old child, I then had to explain to her what shoplifting was, because the idea of taking something without paying for it had never crossed her mind and was a super foreign concept, because that is simply not the type of person I am nor how I raise my child. The whole experience was very upsetting. I will absolutely be avoiding this location and letting all of the other people I know how terrible the staff was here.

I really liked the layout of this Barnes &Noble. With two floors, it doesn't feel cramped or overfilled with books. That being said, there is a great deal of space taken up by the Fiction section on the first floor and the Children's section on the second floor. The Arts and Craft sections are decent. But the Religious section leaves much to be desired. I saw this because with so many stand alone Religious bookstores that have closed in the last few years, I am surprised B&N has not picked up the slack in that area. Especially since most people buying religious material still prefer to 'touch and feel' before they buy. Having the Starbucks inside is always a delight. And this is not your average Starbucks. This one is fully stocked with soups, sandwiches, cookies and other delightful treats. You could easily spend hours in here exploring the shelves while sipping on your favorite drink. I recommend this place, especially if you have kids or teens. Their infant to teen book selection is outstanding. And for anyone into Manga, you have a whole section that will not disappoint.

Barnes and Noble is one of those national brick and mortar chains that I just didn't care for when I moved here in Seattle because there's Amazon and plenty of local bookstores. I live conveniently close by Third Place Books for one. But the revelation for me when my hubby strung me along (he didn't want to go to Macy's where I was headed, of course) was the cafe. A display shelf of yummy pastries matched with the heavenly sweet smell of dessert lured me to the counter. There I discovered individual slices of cheesecakes and other goodies from The Cheesecake Factory! I never knew I could just go in the B&N and get myself a nice sweet little serving of dessert! Coffee and other beverages are from Starbucks. There's sandwiches and soup too. And the best part? It's open until 11pm! Don't judge =) Note that you can't pay for your drink with your Starbucks card. Also, 10% discount given to B&N members. Pictures to follow!

Normally I enjoy this store. However, yesterday an employee who I assume was a manager behaved in an embarrassing, unprofessional manner that kind of put me off from returning here. Everyone knows there is a mask mandate in effect. This individual was scouting the store scolding anyone who wasn't wearing their mask properly. Loudly. From the ones I witnessed myself, they were all wearing them correctly. This guy seemed like he was on some sort of power trip and even screamed at one customer to get out. Speaking to customers quietly to inform them of the mask policy would've been the correct way to go about this. But openly yelling at a customer is not only unprofessional but also disrupted the rest of the store. If I was this guy's superior I'd take disciplinary action of some sort or at least some sort of training to better communicate in his position. No one in any position of authority should behave so poorly.

I'm torn. On one hand, I love the two-story open floor plan of this location and the store is quite large. They have frequent author events, which is great for the community. However, there are serious safety issues in the area. The hired security was very rude and intimidating, just because the store was closing, which I didn't realize at the time I walked in. I have heard a woman in the restroom having a mental health crisis, so the locked doors don't really do anything. And lastly, about a month ago I was in the store when a man sucker punched a customer in the back of the head as he walked through the doors. No employees bothered to say anything to any customers, didn't assure us that the police had been called or that it was safe to leave.

Last time I shopped for preschool age books you were the only branch that had them. I appreciate the kid section that we all helped out with for the younger children to learn to pick books based off the kid section in the mall which also was added due to the school age children in the area. I hope that the co striction and spider issue is over with as a medical professional it has been frustrating for professionals all over. I haven't been able to return to my women's health care location as well after my car being stolen. But I appreciate you location my son likes choosing stories based off all of the class discussions remotely and using quiet voices in the kid section. His books were alot cleaner ordered from Barnes and noble!

If you are willing to pay $8.10 for a 4-shot double latte, then this is the place for you. I am happy that people read books more than they play video games. As an author myself of seven books, it is somewhat disheartening. My heart goes out to all the devoted readers of non-fiction these days, especially, "Highliner--the Nature, Science and Philosophy of Automobile Driving," in additon to, "The Perfect God, "The 44," and "Agape--Ways of the Eternal Champion", followed soon by "Mini-handbook for the Spiritual Warrior" and "Handbook for the Spiritual Warrior" by Swan Starling, my pseudonym.

  • Stacy Bowman

Went in for a recordable book for grandkid. They not only didn't have the title I wanted, but they didn't have any options to consider. I'm a little surprised the kids' area is on the 2nd floor, so my toddler had to take an escalator up to look at books. I'm not a fan. I didn't find an elevator until we had tackled the escalator. Bathrooms were locked and needed a code, which meant we had to find an associate for a code. That was fun when in a hurry. Not the best experience, I will order online next time, no reason to stop in a brick and mortar store.

  • Brooke Nielsen

The store is a pretty good size, and has a great selection of books, and games! Also a great place to find a cool, interesting (in a good way), original gift! Not 5 stars because the staff couldn't figure out whether or not they had what I wanted... even said they didnt they think had any (scratch art) and even though they didn't have the books of art I prefer, they had a HUGE selection of scratch art upstairs... lol I'm glad I looked!

  • Danny Tram

This bookstore is one of the warmest B&N stores that I have been to. The space is bigger than other Seattle ones. The most thing I love is they put many chairs in each section for readers. There is a small coffee shop inside if you want to try it. The staff is super friendly and warm to customers. I spent an hour going through different books and got some good books names to buy in the future I will be back in the future

  • Lé Woo

This location is my favorite because the customers keep their voices to a minimum and the employees are always there to help when you need it. This store is always clean and stocked with every new and old book you could possibly need. Their toy and game sections are also fun to explore and a great place to find a gift for just about anybody if that is what you are looking for. Just saying, they have everything.

  • William Case

I know, it's a chain but bookstores are dying out so I have to support the selling of books anyway I can. This particular store has gotten a facelift, no more music section in the back. The upstairs still has a warm and inviting Kid's Books area, I love it. There are comfy chairs throughout the store. Yes, the tables at the coffee shop aren't sizable for studying but it's nice to have this area. I books!

  • Sarah Fine

The staff is always friendly at this location, and not pushy with the membership like other locations have been in the past. The cookies are always fresh and delicious in the attached cafe. I love how much the Manga section has grown in the store. Excellent displays of fun collectables for pop culture fans. Truly the best experience a book lover can have in what's left of the brick and mortar bookstores.

  • Karey gamino

You know I'm very much a introvert woman and the lady at the check out was the first person who's ever asked me questions like " what series are you reading now?" Honestly,it was a simple small gesture but it definitely took me by suprise and shocked me a bit that I was able to talk to someone face to face and nerd out . I really enjoyed that , I will definitely be returning . I value people who are fun

  • Marcie

I was looking for some business books and was having a hard time finding them so I asked a employee that was putting books away if she could help me. Jordan went above and beyond, I only had the name of the book and first name of the author but regardless she found all the books i was looking for and was very patient with me the whole time. Great attitude and customer service skills! Thank you Jordan!

  • jianan wang

At around 16:30 on November 6, 2023, I came here to buy a book of $35, when they added a slightly fat white woman in a plaid shirt As a waiter, I don't know if she had encountered something unhappy. When I checked the bill, she took out the money, and she rolled her eyes at me, and then the movement slowed down immediately. I wish her a good night, and she silently asked the next person to come over.

  • Kid Knapp

Clean fresh decently position speakers weren't affecting any book searching I really enjoyed that felt like a bookstore and not a restaurant like everywhere I shop Starbucks is clean everybody was nice lots of Barnes & Noble's workers to help very kind people fast no their staff know where everything is was very impressed please give everybody a five dollar raise immediately and keep them on staff

  • Annie Green

Barnes & Noble is still kicking despite less readers these days and this location is a breeze! With two stories, it’s still very easy to navigate, clean and even had an author event going on when we arrived! We love that they make it easy to find popular books or niche books and have comfy chairs throughout if you wanted to sample a chapter or two! Parking is also very easy at Northgate and free.

  • Zackary Certa (Truthful ratings)

Pros: So much options! From Records, CD's, Manga, Novels and more! I swear you could look in there for HOURS and have so much fun. Cute lil reading nooks upstairs with a window to see the view of the huge parking lot with lots of space to park! Cons: Super expensive if you don't have a rewards number/card. Signing up for one before shopping is recommended.( Save some money for free!)

  • Kira Kearsley

I love this bookstore. They have a great selection of different books. However, the books are very expensive and they don't have a great interior design or architecture section. They have a really nice cafe that you can sit and read in. The store also has a lot of different corners to sit in and it is fun to find those places to sit. Other than the expense, I do like to come here!

  • Terran Wheeling

I appreciate the irony that this location was once where a movie theater stood during my childhood. I saw many movies here. (Red Robin was next to it. There was a giant arcade within walking distance. Ah, the 80s mall experience!) They've been replaced by books! Browsing books is my preferred past time (when I'm at a loss for an activity, read: tired of couch potato-ing).

  • Kari Taylor

Great beach with plenty of space and beautiful views. The only bummer is the rail road track that separates the rest of the park from the beach but if you can handle stairs this is a great place to spend the afternoon. Honestly the track makes it feel more isolated, calm and probably keeps the popularity of the park down which makes it a great place to be in Seattle. ❤️

  • kiwi Kiwi

Really great place. Good selection and workers who check in on you u buy are willing to leave you alone if you need it. I've had a few experiences with the cafe area being messy and the cafe workers being a little rude. Overall really great though! Love browsing books there and reading the recommendations from the staff! There's a great kid area too.

  • LaRosa Rose

Oh, I love this store! The staff are friendly and helpful. You want or need books, they have most everything you could want to read here. I got the newest Laurell K. Hamilton book for $25(originally $28, had a $3 off coupon on the book), and a few other cool reads as well. They're not the cheapest, but they usually have the better copies of series.

  • Very Raft

Really nice selection in this 2-story Barnes & Noble. I was here for a good 2 hours browsing their collection. The LGBTQ+ section is phenomenal - autobiographies, fiction, romance, history, and more. I bought a cute 2023 planner and some other supplies. There was a long line, but the staff got through it really quickly. Would definitely come back.

  • N Rambo

Oh my goodness . I have never been in this place.. it was an adventure in the least.. beautiful store, organized sections, easy to find various materials.. authors and great parking to make the experience delightful.. if your looking for literature and more go here.. they have very knowledgeable and friendly associates to assist you if needed...

  • CARMEN THUNDER

We had way to much fun here. We all found so many wonderful things. If your looking for a gift this is it. They had super great toys we have never seen anywhere. Record’s, cd’s and movie’s. A wonderful book section full of books my little person loved. It has a Starbucks inside also. What a lovely store. Will be back. Tons of friendly staff.

  • TD Tribble

Nice, fully stocked bookstore in a large comfortable setting. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Books are organized well and easy to find. The cafe is also well appointed. The large two-floor store makes it easy to shop and linger at the shelves without feeling crowded by other shoppers. Also has a large accessible parking lot.

  • Nate Smithanial

I had a great time at the store. The variety of literature to choose from is amazing. I didn’t interact with the staff, but they seemed polite and understanding with other customers. The small cafe at the store was also nice, I would say it had fair prices and some good drinks and food to order. Overall, a good store to visit.

  • Lisa Danelle Hurd

Love just going in here to spend time looking around and reading. Plus the coffee shop inside is a great bonus. And I especially love all the cool Knick nacks on the displays waiting to checkout. If you are a high volume reader, I recommend purchasing into their reward program, you will save money.

  • Roseanne M

Nice location. Employees were very kind and patient. Nice selection of books. Well maintained. Plenty of parking. We felt bad for them because homeless woman left with bag of items. "Security" at mall was worthless. They had a chance to help retrieve stolen items but did absolutely nothing.

  • Thom Ross

Much to see besides books. I took my grandkids there and they really enjoyed themselves. What made the experience so enjoyable was the staff. Always in the background but not in your face. I recommend spending some quality time enjoying what Barnes and Noble has to offer.

  • Joseph Mesa

Awesome place to study or catch your breath with a good coffee at the cafe. Upstairs area has great stuff for kids and the reading corner is adorable. Restrooms are a bit tricky to find but you'll notice the signs once you go upstairs and then look toward the left.

  • Rose Becerra

Best place to go for books and gifts. With a lot of the mall shutdown parking is very available even during peak hours. Like all B&N the cafe has really yummy food and treat options. I love coming here with my young kids because it's fun for them and mommy.

  • MJ JACOBS JR

I love Barnes and Nobles but this location is absolutely huge and it provides lots of little corners to sit and enjoy your read or work and the addition of your friendly neighborhood Starbucks on the inside helps for those longs days of filling out reports

  • Dave Brown

Of a the Barnes + Noble stores I've been to, this had the most excellent of recommendations. They had a whole section "for those who like Harry Potter," and they were buy one, get one 50% off. It had comfortable seating, a huge selection, helpful staff.

  • T C

It's 90 degrees outside and yet it's so cool (without being cold) inside. Everything is always neat and the employees are always exceptionally helpful. I always feel like they actually care about my experience (which is rare at big corporate stores).

  • Cienn Joyeux

Honestly did not expect this to be a busy place on a rainy day. Probably not the greatest place to go and get work done at the seating area. However, the Starbucks has great selection pastries and entrees. The selection of books is extensive as well

  • Diana Joan Nazziwa

Amazing selections . Kids have an area to read and play and play pretend. Books here remind me of my days in high school and I enjoy that alot. Very friendly. Lots of space to work and do computer work. Starbucks inside with WiFi. Can not top that!

  • Robert Miller

It's nice except for the rats everywhere and I'm referring to the two legged ones !!!!!! Calling cops at first chance to report a bicycle theft I'm sorry but Seattle police have enough other things to worry about besides your missing huffy smh

  • Kaleena Devine

Obviously every Barnes and Noble has a huge selection of books and toys. This one in particular always seems to have several large tables and racks of discount and clearance items, which included a lot of titles that worth reading. We did

  • Thomas Lee

They have everything that I've ever looked for and more. Not a local mom and pop shop but I don't think small shops would carry the volume of books they have. The selection of books and the way they lay out their store is well thought out

  • Matt Perrone

This is one of your bigger sized Barnes & Noble in the area. It is a nice place to sit and relax for a bit at the Starbucks inside of it. They have a large selection of books (of course) but also toys, games and other various items. The

  • Erin Kathol

I always enjoy looking at their giant toy and games area. Most seem educational and interesting. I found some really good deals on criterion movies last time I was there. My son loves the manga and graphic novel selection.

  • PorcBelly

one of the few B&N left is Seattle. Has a great collection of books, comics, manga, children books, magazines and music (CD & vinyls). You also get a nice Starbucks on the ground floor. A great B&N if you looking for one.

Went in, found what I was looking for, they were also doing a book drive, so I bought a book for that as well, it's wonderful for the community when companies help others learn. I've always enjoyed this bookstore! …

The staff at the Northgate store are amazing. They will lead me directly to the book I'm looking for, or, somehow managed to pick one out that's right up my alley. It's like they are mind readers! I love this location.

  • Laurie Gurule

I love this store. Never had a problem and to the staff is friendly and eager to help. I have been coming here since they opened and will continue to. Fortunately this was one of the locations that didn't get closer

  • Jay Davenport

There was only 2 minutes until closing time, but we were allowed to come in shop. We knew what we wanted so we were in and out; but in spite of being ready to close the store, customers were allowed in.

  • Lynne Walker

Barnes & Noble employees know and love books; consequently, they are truly helpful when requesting a specific book or needing an idea for one's next book. Plus, the Northgate B & N has an awesome cafe!

  • Ry M

B&Noble are so rare now - But I appreciate this one - friendly staff/Cashiers and great cafe vibes/staff ☕️…in an area with a dearth of cafés - it’s Starbucks coffee but in a bookstore so palate-able!

  • Christine

This is one of the biggest Barnes and Nobles I've ever been in, the layout is beautiful, the bathrooms are customer only so they were clean, and the Starbucks coffee I had was amazing. No complaints.

A wonderful bookstore with a wide selection of books of all kinds. The aisles are spaced apart well for wheelchair access and the little café makes this the perfect introvert's dream hangout spot!

This is a very large B&N and so very nice. It is two floors of books, magazines and a great kids area and gifts galore for all ages. It has a coffee shop with lots of pastries as well.

  • Glen Pinkham

Staff was friendly and helpful. If one staff couldn't find the book I was looking for, the staff asked another staff member. Who was then able to show me where the book was located

  • Julie Schick

Granted, my priority here is using the restroom, but the reading and gift material is outstanding. Customer service is excellent. Oh, and the restrooms are clean and well-stocked.

  • Dean Kim

Barnes and Noble always has the best customer service! One of the best bricks and mortar bookstores left! Also their clearance item selection is the best at this location!

  • Samantha Gucciardo

The employees are the most lovely people ever and they have a giant selection of books, magazines, toys etc. I love having them as my neighbors here in Northgate :)

Great place to sit with their special pumpkin cake and enjoy an exciting book. Love the kids books collection, my go to place for presents for all the kids I know.

  • Tim Sheng

Perhaps you cannot find such a nice barnes and noble bookstore anywhere else theses days... so do visit it and get few books... it's easy to go by the light rail.

So huge with a massive selection! Loved the Starbucks inside. Only downside is that the Starbucks app won't work there. Still great tho, with a tons of pastries!

  • Preston Williams

Standard B&N, but the staff are super helpful when they are available. The store is clean and easy to navigate. Parking is available and easy up front access.

  • The Pope of Italy

One of the biggest Barnes and Noble in the area with a great selection of books, games, and vinyl. Great places to kill time before getting on the light rail

  • Scarlette Arashin

Wish there was more tables provided for reading/studying instead of being used for display. Disappointing for busy days where there's more people than usual.

  • Patrick Rice

Great location with huge selection of books, games and cards. The starbucks inside also is nice for ambiance. I hope the physical bookstore never goes away.

  • Joseph Tan

Staff were helpful and knowledgeable. Place is bright, clean and conducive for reading. We were given free cafe samples of their seasonal beverage, yummy.

  • Liz Marvel

Their graphic novel section outside of marvel and DC is small...where's the love for dark horse and image? But it's big and clean so no complaints there

  • Sean O'Connor

Great bookstore. Clean and well organized. Has a Starbucks and wifi. The bathrooms require a code because of the occasional homeless guy, but it's fine.

  • James Lee

A surviving bookstore that still manages to feel welcoming and has plenty of seating, author readings, and a fine cafe with a broad offering of snacks.

  • John Defronzo

I love B&N , they have all my political nonfiction at great $$$$ and keeps me up at nite reading into the semantics of our failing government !!
