Wonderfully Consistent Perfect Service – I have been a very occasional customer of Barr’s Pharmacy in the Cape Town CBD for quite a few years. Back when Barr’s Pharmacy was located in the Picbel Parkade, I was working in the hospitality industry and I would pop in before work for perhaps some painkillers and something for energy. It was back then always a delight to go into Barr’s Pharmacy as there was always an assistant right in the entrance a couple meters into the shop. I said what I needed and was out of the pharmacy, on my way to work, within a minute. Literally. Since Barr’s Pharmacy relocated to the corner of Waterkant and Long Streets, diagonally across from Nando’s Long Street, I have been there a few times. Most recently when I had a leg wound. Not knowing much about bandages, after a quick explanation to the assistants, I got exactly what I needed. And it worked. One great feature of Barr’s Pharmacy is that there is always someone in close proximity, with a friendly smile, willing to assist at any moment. Not pushy, not impatient. Just available. Today, I had to pick up some medication. I was feeling pretty horrible in the morning and one specific reason I went to Barr’s Pharmacy today is because I know that they do deliveries and I also knew that it would be a smooth, seamless experience from start to finish. The last thing I needed this morning was unnecessary hurdles. I went in, asked the assistant a question or two and it was agreed I would email some information through upon my return home. I did indeed send the email when I got home, but forgot to add an attachment I needed to. Within less than a minute, I received a call from Ilse at Barr’s Pharmacy letting me know about the missing attachment. No lengthy back and forth emailing, I got a quick response by phone, I still had my email open and could send the attachment. The issue was resolved immediately. By then I was feeling a bit better and thought I would pick up the medication myself instead of opting for delivery. Ilse stood within the door, with a friendly greeting and had my medication ready. And as always, the transaction up at the till was processed efficiently. From my own experience in customer service I realize that anything can happen at any time and for Barr’s Pharmacy to continue to keep this massive flag of readiness, willingness, unparalleled service and kindness flying, takes dedication. I must add that since the Cape Town City Centre and Atlantic Seaboard has dozens of pharmacies, I usually use the one closest at that moment, or one that is open later, if needed. And I can say, almost without fail, that pharmacists and pharmacists’ assistant are usually very helpful and patient. However, I can now say that after years of being a customer of Barr’s Pharmacy, your needs as a customer will be taken care of here with kindness, empathy, absolute efficiency, and by a team that understands what some might not: That when you enter a pharmacy, it is mostly because the most precious possession each of us has, our life, our physical or emotional being, needs some help. And Pharmacist Shafiek Ferguson, Ilse, and the rest of the phenomenal team of young men and women at Barr’s Pharmacy, do their job with professionalism, great empathy and kindness. Great pharmacy and staff, pharmacist Mr Ferguson goes the extra mile and takes real interest in his clients, gives the best advise and always explains everything about the medication the drs prescribe, great seeing people careing for others, and his staff is the same, extra mile is their norm.

Very helpful and kind staff. Came in to replace lost malaria pills after calling around other pharmacies and this one was by far the best and easiest. Also great prices, wish I lived here to get prescriptions here all the time! So glad I found it.

Barr is one of the few last remaining independent pharmacies in Cape Town. The pharmacist, Mr Ferguson, is an amazing guy who really knows his subject and always gives us excellent advice and medication. Highly recommended
