Nosso senhor do Bonfim “fitinhas” (colorful ribbon pieces) are a must for anyone who comes over to this church. There is a legend that goes about the cleaning of the stairs: around Carnival, Manu baianas (ladies born in the state of bahia), wash down the stairs as a way to cleanse the impurities that would have taken place along the year. The church is now under renovation, which could prevent some people from seeing from closely the main art pieces that are displayed in this church. However, there is a guided visit to a museum upstairs at a very low price (don’t remember exactly now how much I paid) that tells the story of the churche’s architecture, works of art, documents, coin, cutlery among others. Nearby, one may find a few local restaurants. The closer to the church, the more expensive they are. If you decide to venture through the small alleys, you may find cheaper Food, but do mind the quality standards of the place. Finally, be aware of pickpockets around the church. I did. Or see any while I was visiting, but any crowded place could be an opportunity, right?
Though it is not that close of the mainstream of Salvador's sightseeing, the basilic is indeed a must to see place. It has such a huge and potent energy that will make the extra effort worth it. It's not the most luxurious church one can visit, but the relevance of its history to the locals (and the history of religious development in the entire state) is more than necessary if you really want to leave with the mystical taste that Salvador leaves in all of us. There is no fee payment, and as a plus, you can visit the beaches located on the outskirts. Don't forget to attach your Senhor do Bonfim ribbon on the gates of the church - legends say you must choose the color you like the most and tie it in with three knots, one for each wish of yours. The color you pick will represent the orixá that protects you.

This church in Brazil has a lot of history. If you come to Salvador and don't visit the church, you are missing out. The church has a room full of photos and cast body parts which represent a 'miracle room', Brazilians believe in Saints, and when they get a miracle, they bring a photo or something; that will represent it. The wristbands that you will see everywhere are very famous in Brazil. It means when you tie it to your wrist, you need to make 3 wishes in every single knot, (3 knots, 1 wish for each) when it come loose, the wishes comes true. The church has daily mass and it is beautiful inside. It is a perfect place to go and watch the sunset. Enjoy!
A must see during your visit to Salvador. A beautiful cathedral that captures the heart and soul of one of the oldest cities established in the new world. It’s local custom to tie ribbons at the gate in front of the church and say a prayer to the Holy Savior of the Bay of all Saints. Inside the cathedral and deep rooted in the Afro-Brazillian Candomblé traditions and the Catholic Ex-Voto, the afflicted offer wax casts in body parts to Saints as thanks or hope of healing them.
Quaint old church, with a beautiful view, much nicer interior than one would guess from the exterior (although exterior is done in rather charming gothic architecture), and a cute story of wishes granted for each of the knots tied with a ribbon at its fence. Make sure not to tie more than three knots, though, and of course - you can't say the wishes out loud. :) When will they come true? When the last of the knots gets undone and the ribbon falls off the fence...
Very old igreja and beautifully designed the architecture is very historical. I recommend if you want to do photography visit on weekdays cause on weekends and especially on Sunday you will found fully crowded. ( I couldn’t get the chance for photography) nice to visit here and see the beautifully historic details inside the igreja (church)
Good vibe to get your blessings. Given the importance in Brazil you would expect a grand church. It is, however relatively small and simple, but never the less impressive for its significance for the faithful in Brazil. Great photo opportunities with the colourful Senhor do Bonfim ribbons tied to the church gate.
One os the most spiritual experiences on my travels. Getting blessed by the Baiana and leaving my prayers on the ribbons gate gave me more than I was bargaining for. I'm not a religious person but it was a very enlightening experience. Felt very light and relaxed afterwards. Definitely recommend
This was an excellent way to find some respite from the city. There are many meetings and there are many attractions here. The basilica offers an excellent gaze into the past of not only the church but the local customs and city history.

Very nice place, with an amazing atmosphere. It’s a must seen place in Salvador. Located at the top of a hill, from there you have a great view of Todos os Santos bay and of the city. The straps of Nosso Senhor do Bomfim attached to the Church gates give an awesome color to the Church.
Beautiful church carrying a lot of history. There was service when we arrived and it was crowded but we found seats and could enjoy the amazing interior of the church whilst praying. Be aware about parking and souvenir prices, street vendors try to make money on unadvised tourists.
Not as good as Pelourinho. Here you come to the church and can't really walk around (as there is just the church, and nothing else to see). Wouldn't recommend unless you have time. The church in itself is nice, of course, and you are on a hill so there's a nice view.
The church is beautiful and full with the visitors but should be careful about the guy at the parking lot along the street they are asking for 20 reais for every car.

This place, ⛪Bonfim's church⛪ is anything but ordinary, mesmerizing atmosphere, just thinking about it gives me goosebumps from head to toe. Unforgettable & unexplainable experience doubtless #bucketlist ⛪✅ ⚠️ totally worth it ⚠️
If you’re not a religious person, don’t waste your time visiting Salvador’s churches. This one has nothing outstanding (at all), and you won’t understand why so many people go there (and why they refuse to use air conditioner!).
A place of peace and tranquility for visitors. An religious landmark that plays an important part of history of the country. The tradition of tying ribbons and the meaning behind this practice is great to see and understand.
I really enjoyed busing this place. We did the 3 ties for 3 wishes. It was fun to explore this area a few vendors out front. Would say this Is a good place to visit, parking can be tough to find.
Visiting on a weekday was the best bet. On the other hand this is a nice historical monument holding stories in every corner of itself. The interior is sculptured in an intricate manner.
Here is one of Salvador’s symbolic place. We can see a lot of fita Bonfim around church. And also a lot of fita Bomfim vendors are there. You had better to ignore them.
Beautiful church!! Sunday mass. Crowded but managed to find parking.

Magical, mystical place. You can feel the energy coming from the place and all the faithful that pack this historic church.
Wonderful view. It makes part of the religious syncretism of the region. See: history of Senhor do Bomfim church.
One should see it once but a bit far from everything. I would combine it with the locap market in one day.
Marvelous setting with beautiful views. Interior is very opulent. Lots of vendors for the ribbons outside.
Wonderful visit the day before the important procession, 8kms ending at this basilica
Beautiful place. You will be impressed by its colors. A must-visit place in Salvador.
