Let me start by saying that I've been volunteering with Bearings' youth drop-in after school program for the last couple of months. I'm blown away by the program and the self confidence + self efficacy with which it equips youth through young adults. Their program is a true mentorship/apprenticeship that encourages children and teens to work and learn independently with gentle guidance. It helps the participants set clear, attainable goals, and gives them something positive to work towards. As they learn the skills of bicycle building and repairing, they are earning their own bike! The program overflows into a teen program that gives teens and young adults real paid work experiences. I'd been shopping around for a bike that could handle pavement plus the gravel most Atlanta streets + Beltline connections harbor. Y'all. New bikes are $$$! Plus, I was looking for something with a more vintage look. I knew that the the retail space of Bearings helps fund the youth programs, so I popped in. Some of the shop techs are graduates from their youth programs, and everyone there was polite, knowledgeable, and tolerant of my over excitement. Andrew let my peruse their warehouse catalog of donated bikes, and I found a gem of a vintage mixte frame that the shop refurbished into my dream bike. It's seriously perfect. They took great care in checking in to make sure I was happy with tweaks and details. I also could tell it meant quite a bit to the shop to see how happy I was with the work! So, we kept a bike out of a landfill and gave it new life. I saved HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS of dollars. I have a bike super unique to me that won't slide out from under me in a gravel patch. And, the purchase helped fund programming that I promise is making a difference, y'all. If one of the shop techs looks like a seventeen year old, then they probably are. Know that they're learning, have the great guidance of seasoned bicycle technicians, and will take amazing care of you and your ride. Sorry this review is a novel, but I can't say enough about my positive experience. So, this is actually quite short!
This shop was recommended via another bike store. I called before hand to let the shop know that I would be stopping in. When I arrived I was greeted in an unfriendly way. It seems this shop has not figured out how to operate professionally during the pandemic. I was immediately told to step outside when I entered the store due to COVID-19 restrictions. I waited for the salesman/mechanic to come attend to my inquiry. He asked, what I wanted and I said to buy a bike. He then asked, "how tall are you?" and said that he will bring out options for me. He then had another associate bring out 3 bikes that he assumed I would like. There wasn't any engagement on their part about what type of bike I was looking or if I anything in mind. The associate basically said this is what they feel like fits me and it's all they have at the moment. Which is untrue. He then stated that they have a ton of bikes in the shed out back yet he had no idea how I could have access to them. I was puzzled. I then articulated what I was looking for and the associate had no solutions. There wasn't any visual catalogue of what this shop is offering. Quite frankly, they did not care to meet my needs or hear about what I was looking for. The associate then recommended I visit another store because his patience was dwindling, which was all of 15 minutes are so. I was excited to get a bike however this poor customer experience made me look for a bike on craigslist instead. Beautifully designed store. Great curbside appeal. Very poor customer service.
Hi, my name is Khepera and I want to write an extremely honest review: Bearings Bike Works has a really great program for kids 6-17. It is amazing because i have seen how it keeps kids off the streets by giving them a supportive community! There is even a teen internship program for kids starting at age 15, a Mountain Biking team for High schoolers, and even job opportunities for young adults. This place is really awesome, as it fosters a safe place for children. The owner and all the employees are sooo cool and I love this place! This is also speaking for my 4 younger siblings and friends who go there! I would give 100 stars if I could. Sign your kid up today!!!
We went there to get help putting our child's bike together. They were helpful but once we left, we realized the bag of accessories was left at the store. I called to see if we could pick it up the following day. The man said yes and that he would put it up for us....and that he found my sons toy car and that he would put with the bag. However the next day, they said the only thing he had was the toy car and that he never said they had the bag of accessories. He lied. I cant believe they would steal from my son especially since I read how they like to give back to the community.
I took my truck for a simple drive shaft bearing replacement. They forgot a little clip to hold the universal joint. The drive shaft broke less than two miles away. They insisted that it was not their fault, refused to fix the problem, dumping it in my lap, they refused to refund for the poor workmanship and made me pay towing charges for their mistake which has cost me hours of work and several hundred to replace the busted shaft. I understand that everyone makes mistakes, but a good mechanic makes good. They did not, don't trust them with your vehicle.
This is an awesome bike shop! You can tell the owner really loves his business. He could've sold me more stuff I didn't need, but he was honest and gave me his expert opinion about my bike. It didn't result in a lot of $$$ for him, but man, he easily made a future customer. The shop is right off of the corner of the road and is easy to miss though and right beside a cute little neighborhood. Inside, there's lots of refurbished and new bikes for purchase with a wide cost range, making it more affordable for everyone. I highly recommend this place!
Very nice people, they have great refurbished bikes. I was able to get my uncle a bike for a unbelievable price and he loves it. Will definitely be bringing my friends here to get them some bikes as well. They handled every customer very well and with needed precautions. They also have 3 ways to pay, 2 of which are contact free. Also to make it better, they have a youth program, so any old bikes you donate they have kids come in and learn how to fix them, and if i am not mistaken they get a free bike at the end of the program!
Always drove by, first time stopping in was today @ 5pm. I am thankful for this bike shop and the service I received. I was having problems after a few spouts of minor falls and one major (glue for the win for the healing!)... Nevertheless, my chain and derailleur were bent. Brother was able to fix it quick and fast... just in time for a ride before nightfall. Give thanks and respect. Any and all cycle-realists out there show this place some Love!
Professional, courteous, knowledgeable, are a few adjectives that are top of mind when describing Bearings Bike Shop. I wasn't sure what type of bike to select but the young man who assisted me efficiently and effectively had a solution. He even made sure the bike he recommended fit my body type since I'm a taller guy. All you're bicycle questions and concerns will be resolved in this awesome "one-stop-shop" bike cooperative.
Simple stuff, took a bike I had purchased from Amazon to them to get assembled, the tech told me it wasn’t worth it, the same as another bike tech said. I asked if he had a bike for sale, showed it, rode it and purchased. I don’t know about other experiences but they are bike tech’s and very good ones at that. So IMO if you want expert advice and honest service go, if you want a red carpet rolled out to greet you...well
I needed a bike badly when Marta scaled back service because of covid 19. I couldn't find a bike at any of the big box stores and most of the bike shops in the area were closed. I was happy to find Bearings bike shop. The sold me a good used bike for a fair price and had me riding right away. They guaranteed their work and earned a new customer. I am happy to learn that they have a youth program.
I have purchased three bicycles from Bearings, and sent about five friends to do the same. The staff is always super knowledgeable, helpful, and incredibly friendly. When I’ve had issues with my bike, I have been able to bring it in to get repaired at a fair price and with pretty quick turn around. I so appreciate the sustainability of reusing older, good bike parts!
I can't recommend these guys enough! Put aside the great community work. Put aside the quick and reliable service that Andrew and Jarvis consistently provide. But every time I come in, I know that I will not only be greeted by a friendly face, but I'll learn something about my bikes. The feel of this shop is more like a group of extremely helpful friends.
Finally had the opportunity to bring a bike in for service. I heard a lot of good things and like the program. Unfortunately at this time it's curbside service but the staff is more than willing to bring a bike out to look at if your interested in purchasing. I'll have to update this review after I get the bike back.
My son attended The Youth Program and it was great, they learned how to put a bike together and take it apart....they earned point towards a bike .This organization is a great light in the community!!!!!! It teaches leadership, workmenship, organizing, working towards a goal, independence and friendship.
My family has patronized this location for over 40 years. My father started coming here before I was born. Then I started and finally my husband. We have also turned so many others on to their work. So, clearly they do good work. The owner, Cole, is honest and fair.
I got in a bike wreck just near Monday Night Brewing, and they were able to see me immediately. Jarvis provided wonderful service, including fixes to my bike and providing a first aid kit for my scrapes and bruises. Excellent location and even better staff!
Got a flat tire while riding along RDA, thankful to have this shop less than 1 mile away. They had new tubes and tires for purchase and allowed me to use their tools to install it myself. Great program they ate offering the kids of the community.
I found this shop when I trying give a bike away. I happy to know that they are help the youth with a positive impact on outlook. I hope that this program continues. I am hoping I can see inside the shop when covid19 is gone.
It looks like a whole in the wall place. But the owner is a great guy from Pittsburg. Young guy is very helpful and you may have a few kids around. Hours and schedule needs to open up a little more. But Overall great place.
This place is Super Fantastic!!!!!!!! Everybody there has a Good ATTITUDE!!! Their work is A-1 the Mechanics are very PROFESSIONAL!!! Believe me you will come back!!! The SERVICE IS AMAZING SINCERELY BISHOP KEVIN WHITE
I absolutely love Bearings. Love the mission and love the service. It feels like your friendly neighborhood bike shop - cuz it is! Jarvis in the shop has always greeted me and been super helpful and professional.
Bearings is where I send all of my friends that are just looking for a decent bike for not much money. The head mechanic is really great at working with budget constraints and making it work for you.
I am so thankful to have found this shop! Andrew and Jarvis go above and beyond to assist you and educate you about the service you need! I highly recommend it! You will not be disappointed!
This place is awesome. My favorite bike shop, by a long shot. Very low key, but everyone there really knows bikes. Their turnaround time is really quick, so you don't wait much.
All proceeds here, go to bikes for kids that learn to build bikes. Its an amazing program. Get your bike tuned up here,, and if you have an old bike...donate it here as well!
Service was great. Prices were great but it has really gone south. Prices and service have dropped since Andrew got there. Very rude and condescending attitude.
Amazing service, Andrew has been especially kind to me each time I've come in. And no matter how long I wait between visits, he still remembers me!
They were super helpful, with reasonable prices and fast turn around time! I got my bike back within 2 days - I definitely will be back.
Got my first bike today!! Andrew and Jarvis are super helpful!!! Very knowledgeable and patient as well. Great experience!! …
