I went to the BIG 5 located at 8145 Mera Mesa San Diego and I have to say my experience was awful. I went to buy training ammunition for my personal training firearm and they charged 179.99 dollars per box (box size 7.5 and another box size 8) I bought two so that was 359.98 dollars. I was a bit skeptical so I asked around for the price and I found people who specialize in selling this stuff and they told me that it was 75. dollars per box and when I told them that I bought each box for 179.99 dollars they told me that I got scammed for 209 dollars plus tax and these are training bullets so they should not have cost that much either way. So I went to return them but they told me that their policy does not allow me to return the items, so I asked them why did they not inform me about their policy, to begin with, or where is it so I could have read it for myself. They said that their policy is on the wall and the girl at the register Brittany who was very rude to me, pointed at a piece of paper that was about 5 centimeters with a font that is smaller than what the eye can see and said that paper is their policy. Now I am pretty old so my eyes don’t work as well to see it let alone read it, so I said why did you not tell me to at least read your policy and then they replied with “its part of our policy to not tell you to read our policy”. This was awful they did not treat me with any respect at all and they did not even wear name tags so I was not able to get their names but I would not recommend you to go there ever.

This is the friendliest place in town. The manager is a fun person to talk to. She showed me all the air rifles and explained them to me in detail. She knew every part. When I made my decision, she went in the back to get it, but it was gone. She called around until she found one, and then went to that store after work and picked it up, she called me and said I could pick it up at my store. I never experienced such service and dedication. I would tell you more about her experience with products of the manly nature (guns) but San Diego is a town that has no men, just scared little boys and I don't want anyone crying themselves to sleep tonight. Anyway until Gaven shuts this place down, you really should check out the hunting and fishing products. They are top of the line, and the people here really know their stuff. I'll shop here over Bass Pro. And Cabellas doesn't have anything of better quality. Plus most shops act as if they are scared to sell you legal products, Big 5 is not one of them, they take pride in being American. Give them a try for your camping needs, you'll be glad you did.

I had the worst experience there in the shoes department. I was passed over by the salesman there. He proceeded to ask the next gentleman that was waiting 20 feet behind me. When customer answered that he was only looking then the salesman just walked passed me. I then asked him why did he not asked me if I needed any help. His replied was that, "It must of been the hat hat!" I was ticked off and felt offended. Then, I asked if I could have this one particular shoe in a size 6 for woman. He then replied, " You know that this shoe, cost 90.00 right?" By this time I've had had it!!! I asked if I could speak to the manager. Then he realized that he had gone too far and said that he was sorry that he was only joking.

Everything is too expensive. My latest personal experience was with my family. We went in to look at shoes and were asked if we needed anything. I told the man no and he continued to stand there staring at me. Five minutes later another man (all alone) came back and was asked the same question and gave the same answer. The employee then turned back and stared at my family and I until I finally felt to uncomfortable to continue shopping there. Clearly this was a blatant insult implying that I needed watched for anti-theft purposes. The employee could have at least pretended to be busy. Needless to say my trips there will be few and far between.

i did not understand why i could not return what bought in Big 5 , i paid more than $400 for the snow coast and the boots, unfortunately they were not good. Thats why i brought back to get my money. At the beginning, they were ok to give me back the money, but then they change their mind and said the stuffs that i purchased were under-condition( they want i should have the seals or tags, something). Finally the answer was big No No. For me, Big 5 was terrible place for shopping and customer service. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR TIME AT MIRA MESA BIG 5 .

Few stores have remained consistent in delivering upon expectations as Big 5 Sporting Goods. With the exception of formal dress shoes, my entire family has bought shoes from Big 5 for over 20 years. Whenever we need sunglasses, fishing or camping gear, or just some new t-shirts, and when any of the above are needed in the last minute..Big 5 has never failed to deliver a great deal for exactly what we wanted. The service is great too. This is a store that society cannot do without. I doubt there will be much, if any disagreement.

I would like to give this store 0 star. Purchased a rushguard 2 weeks ago for my son. My son did not even try it because he did not like the color. I brought it to store with new condition and tag attached. The cashier did not even check the receipt and refused to do the return. Very bad customer service! Very disappointed! Also, there is no final sale marks on the receipt and it is not a on sale item. Bad, bad, bad!!!

I was getting some equipment for my son as we are new to the area and I would like for him to meet new friends via athletics programs. Not only did I find everything easily, but the staff were super helpful and friendly. I had an exceptional conversation with a young man named Zach where he help me find the items I was looking for but also introduce me to all the “local spots”! 10/10 store with 10/10 staff!!

My house is only a few blocks from this place. I have shopped here for years. I have bought a few backyard canopy/tents here, beach stuff for the fam, air rifle, shoes and other things. They have always been super friendly, helpful and quick to ask you if you need any help. I think they are fantastic and please don't ever leave Mira Mesa!

So I have to say, I'm surprised little sporting places like this exist anymore, with all the competition from Dicks, online and big box, but I'm glad it does. My kids are starting junior soccer and we were able to fit them for shoes, shin pads, socks and a ball fairly quickly and at a very reasonable price. We will be back!

We got enormous help in the kids shoe section. My son has big feet and we already went and looked in other places including a different Big 5. Here we got the attention and care we sorely needed. Even though we had spend about half an hour, we were helped immensely. We are very happy customers!

I Came To Buy A Fishing License. I Also Bought A Pair Of Boots For Work. I Have To Say That The Two Young Ladies And Older Gentleman Made Me Feel Very Welcome. Yup They Complemented My Shirt & Hooked Me Up With A 10% Discount. I Totally Recommend This Store, They Got Customer Service Down Pact.

The store is a bit chaotic in its organization but they have a good selection at reasonable prices. The employees are polite but not particularly excited to be there. Reasonably helpful if you can find them. Excellent selection of athletic shoes.

I go here about every two weeks. Always need some little item for something. Hasn't been crowded here but they do get a lot of business. Check out is fast with no waiting in line. Staff are always nice and helpful.

Shop here when I have last minute items to pick up. Can always find something to accommodate me whether its inexpensive sneakers for outside courts, sports gear, or shorts and tees.

Before being a Big 5 - this location was the burial sight for unmarked prisoners. I have noticed that having a Philly cheese steak on my person lowers the poltergeist activity.

Nearby Target had many of the same products at 25% to 50% off relative to Big 5 prices. Though this is a good place to go for a greater sports gear selection.

Accident go to Big 5 went to the market next door but I like both Take 5 and the market a lot good pricing both places nice people both places
