I just had the worst experience not with the train or the food here but with the staff! Before I continue, my experience does not reflect anybody's experience here, it's only my experience. -Birmingham New Street (BNS)- So, I bought the open return ticket to Coventry from here then I went back to here, but I couldn't get in from Coventry station because the staff said it's supposed to be 2 tickets but when I purchased the ticket in the ticket machine there's only one that came out of it. Therefore, I had to purchase another ticket in order to go back to BNS but when I got back here I demanded refund. The staff I talked to was already rude at the beginning, the conversation was heating up and he was being even more rude, I said something that it's the mistake of the machine and he didn't believe me and he called somebody, then he was suddenly quiet probably because I was right and he's wrong. From there, he started to talk to me nicer but I was already upset and I felt disrespected for being accused that it was my mistake. He still insisted it was my mistake and he offered me to get the refund from the ticket I purchased in Coventry, I said ok. But still, it hurt me so bad when he kept saying it was my mistake and he did not apologize at all! Not only he was being RUDE and UNFRIENDLY but also he was being MANIPULATIVE!
The desert is a beautiful train station. It is insufficient to describe it as a train station. Because it is also a shopping mall. It has a beautiful and spacious architecture. It is cleaner and more convenient than the stations in London. It gets busy during business entry and exit times. Apart from that, you can travel very comfortably. There are different cafes and restaurants in it. There are around 10 exit points from which you can reach different parts of the city. You can go to the shopping data center from the upper floor without leaving the station. Shops greet you with a satisfying walk. From the shopping center, you can pass through the busiest streets of the city. In other words, a train station and shopping center combination suitable for city planning. Ticket booths usually work fast. I recommend everyone to use the mobile application. Because to get out of the station, it is obligatory to read a ticket.
Aavnti A Nice Day! One of your grumpy operatives started my day badly with his surly, slightly aggressive attitude this morn. Put my expensive ticket through barrier, spits back out, your man looks at it confirms date & destination then proceeds to tell me how to put it back through again whilst angrily telling me how so to do. At nearly 57 I think I know how to put it in Trouble is I now get stage fright. The more he gets agitated the more I fumble with the ticket. Stress! I'm only trying to get to work. What is more is I work in railway construction, we can design nice structures and stations but can create nice people to run them. Perhaps the TOC's can do something with training. Maybe remind them who is the paying customer and to treat them with respect. Thanks Alex for making my day. Not sure why you singled me out for your vile attention
This is modern, large and excellent train station. Despite their complexity; they were still organised. Trains kept to their schedules and on time; and there were ample spacious and comfortable waiting areas. The signages, and the displayed screens everywhere around the station were helpful and there is no way you will get lost. This is one of the best stations I have visited in the recent past. Staff were nice and friendly; environment clean and neat; and lots of facilities around to make passengers comfortable. Good platforms; close access to the city centre and easy connections to the major cities. I love the interior, shining exterior; it looks amazing. They were very organised and follow the schedules; if there is any changes, they promptly and appropriately inform the passengers. Great experience.
This is one of the best train stations I have visited. I have been here on two occasions, and I can say it was worthwhile. There's not really much to complain about. I like the interior of the depot, especially the reflective exterior, and the wavy frames interior-wise. The environment is clean, as well. Every train was right on schedule, and there is ample space to sit down and wait for your train. The signs around the station are plentiful, and you can't exactly get lost. The only issue I seemed to have is the lack of power outlets for phone chargers. My battery was quite low, and it took me a while to find just one outlet. I think there should be a few more added in the premises. Overall though, this is a brilliant and beautiful Railway Station.
This station is wheelchair friendly around the station with easy to find lifts. A ramp is available, via customer services, but it takes a long time to set up, so we didn't get any of the good seats. Coming home at gone 8.30pm, there was a presence of "thugs" scattered around the station playing what some may descrIbe as music, I call it noise Anyway, the atmosphere was very tense trying to exit the station, myself and my husband couldn't wait to leave. Also, we were approached by a couple of homeless men, 1 asking for a light (there's a lot of smokers out there who stroll past the tobacconist and heads straight to me as I was smoking at the time), 1 asked for food, and I think that's it
I think Birmingham New Street station is one of my favourites train station in the UK. The layout of public seating while waiting for your train is very convenient. Shops are everywhere inside out the station. There's food court on upper level of the station where you would enjoy Asian and South American Cuisines. The whole station building is uniquely designed and developed to be able to exit in every corner of the main building. There are also seating area just outside the station. The mirror like aluminium design in front of the main entrance of the station is the best feature of the building. The Dome like roof is quite similar to St. Pancras Station in London.
This was an amazing station to both arrive and depart at, set in an underground area despite being a main network one! The platforms are appropriately sized for even express trains and navigation was easy, following signs situated all over. Me and my friend used the accessible lift to exit and made our way through the ticket gates quickly, leading out to the gigantic shopping centre! Departure boards keep times updated on the platforms and the multiple set ones are a handy list of all departures, also the station was kept clean.
This is a large train station but was still easy enough to get around. For the traveller there are plenty of shops but nothing halaal as far as I could make out. On the flip side there is a very handy multi faith prayer room, and wudu facilities, next to Café Nero. I also found that to get from one side of the station to the other you literally had to scan your ticket 3 to 4 times! The shopping centre is a stone's throw away, probably plenty more food options in there. The staff were also very friendly, and helpful.
This is a major rail interchange. It serves both local and national rail services. The other two rail stations serving Birmingham City Centre are within walking distance. There are shop unit within New Street Station itself alongside the Grand Central shopping centre. The platforms are kept clean and there are staff around to offer help and support. There are stairs, lifts and escalators to allow easy access between platforms and beyond. It is busy at times but then this is the Industrial heart of the UK.
Main station with lots of shop options too. There are quite a few places to grab something to eat, and upstairs there are also public toilets. Multiple entrances/exits so convenient to cut through the station sometimes, for a faster route to other parts of the city centre. There is also luggage holding on site, you can pre book easily or pay on the day. Decent rates, be careful of booking through other sites. Always book through the site direct for Birmingham New Street Station.
Everytime i go to the relevant platform to catch a train to cardiff from Birmingham New St I am redirected last minute to another platform which is appaulling, unsafe and can cause undue stress. NEAR MISS accident on the flight of stairs that you need to run to catch train after trying to understand what they said on the speaker and by the time you update the board. You should be ashamed of your poor management of the trains/tracks and safety of the public.
We are getting old & grey. We had arranged Travel Assistance, the train from Leicester was over half and hour late & we missed our connection. Leicester staff had told Birmingham we were on a later train - someone was there to meet us & take us to their lounge , where they had already booked us on to a later Avanti trains. They contacted Preston, where we were met again. With out travel assistance we would have been lost on such a large, busy station
The design of this place is the most counter-intuitive I have ever seen. Missed TWO trains just trying to find my platform. Stupid ‘colour’ zones without proper signposting is appealing. It may be easier for a regular bit if it’s a one-off visit, you will have no idea where to go. The designer needs sacking!! Think I’m just stupid? Go wait in any area and watch the amount of people who walk to a dead end and walk back. What a joke!!!
In my point of view this is the best and largest railway station I have vist and my experience. It is well organized station and in every step is fare and clear to every passengers. The system of this station is also well settled. Passengers can easily move this station and can travel anywhere very very easily wherever they want. Ticket counters are not so busy. Overall it is a great station. I like specially the grand central.
Modern, clean station with easy access to all trains and platforms. Has a sightly complicated layout but staff are onsite to help and assist. Wide range of shops and bars for drinks and food before or after your journey. Easy access into Grand Central and close to the Bullring shopping centre. Down at platform level it is quite dark but not at all scary or dodgy as there is heavy surveillance and staff members.
I was very impressed by Birmingham New Street, we visited for a few days and I loved this place, it's a big train station but also a shopping centre that is attached and I thought it was lovely to be able to walk through and see the sales but also there were a lot of restaurants here too meaning that even after a long day of travelling I could easily grab some dinner and still be able to travel.
Large train station flanked by 2 big malls - the grand Central and Bullring. There is a large metal sculpture of a bull, and it moves! Iconic of this place and a must for photo taking. The station is modern and large with high roof, and houses all the usual amenities such as mini supermarket, news stand, cafes, bookshops etc. The connecting bus stop and tram stop are just outside the station
The station is placed in a very convenient location - very close to the shopping centre, bus stops, tram stop and of course the city centre itself. It is very easy to find your way around the station. Quite an extravagant architecture of the buidling and the choice of shops, restaurants and cafes certainly makes it one of the best stations I have visited so far in the UK.
Birmingham New Street provides a central location and convenient access to transportation. The station is well-maintained, and the staff is generally helpful. However, the crowded nature and occasional delays in services impacted the overall experience. It's a functional hub, but improvements in crowd management and punctuality would enhance the commuter experience.
I’ve been to Birmingham New St many times during the last 5 months on my travels. I’ve always had a good experience with the staff, signage and cleanliness of the station and toilets. Very helpful staff indeed who have made sure I can get my train on time. Plenty of coffee shops for a snack etc. Now there is the Bull to add a bit of fun to the station. Well done!
A very impressive train station and shopping centre set-up. Obviously the train station itself is huge due to it being the main one serving the city, then the massive selection of shops and eateries actually make this place seem more like an airport than a train station. It's probably the best station in the country, it's definitely the best I've seen anyway.
Like a maze, very hard to find which platform you may need. It's also like a big shopping centre with great shops within a train station. Platform changes need to be addressed as one second we were supposed to go to platform 10 but all of a sudden it changed on screen to platform 5C. If you are in a hurry you could miss your train within a split second.
In my experience, this is one of the best train stations I've experienced! Facilities are perfect, this is also because the station includes a full shopping centre and is literally in front of another, bigger shopping centre. I never run into any problem. Last but not least, the architecture of the station is just unique and stunning!
Works okay but not many staff available and not knowledgeable to give directions, at least those I spoke to weren't. Can be confusing which entrance or exit to use with unhelpful staff. Escalators we're not working so steep steps to climb. Platforms still look tired despite a major makeover. Bonus was both trains were on time!
Very light, bright design with great wide open spaces and plenty of shops and eating places makes this station one of the best. Renovations have been thoughtfully competed and the large information boards make navigating your way to trains very straightforward. A huge improvement on the way things were not so long ago.
An amazing train station that gives you the feeling of something from China such a huge space, almost feels like an airport the way all the shops around fill the place, which is a good thing because you don't have to struggle for food. Just your pocket as things are expensive as you can imagine.
This train station has a magnificent design with a wide range of diverse facilities, including comfortable waiting lounges, restaurants and cafes, retail shops, clean restrooms, and efficient transportation facilities. It offers a seamless and enjoyable experience for travelers.
Nice visiting New Street Birmingham; enjoyed a lot, variety of food & eatables at this rail junction where one can have trains for destinations almost all around! The Commonwealth games bull was found at display having attention of all & sundry! I share herewith a VDO clip!
Busy station, wide selection of places to eat. They had a lovely Bull display in the centre. Plenty of security and police presence. The toilets were clean and signboards were easy to follow. Display of train times was easy to read and areas well marked out
A homeless gentleman asked me if I could go to the cash machine and get him £20 out. He even offered to direct me to the nearest ATM. I politely declined. Inflation is real. I miss the days of being asked for some spare change. Nice train station anyway.
Birmingham New Street is some of the busiest and a gigantic station with too many people travelling. There is a well known shopping center street which starts just from outside the station. There are staff and monitors set up for assistance.
One of the best stations in the UK, I really like restaurants and stores there, you may a very delicious halal Chinese, Lebanese, Thai restaurants, as well the pastries stores there are so good, I would recommend to try the tiramisu there
This is an embarrassing station. Billions of pounds were spent, yet escalators hardly work, miserable staff everywhere. Its dirty and grim People leave 5 star reviews because of grand Central. That's not the station, its a separate part.
Clean and well organized, many signs and staff to help travellers. You can buy tickets from the machines or from real people. Many places to have quick snack or take away. At the first floor you find more to eat and seat.
Very busy as always, but clean and no queuing for amenities. The lift was out of order for the B end of the platform I needed but I was able to go out of the barriers and back in again at the A end and use the lift there.
One of the best trains stations I have been to so far. Very spacious and a lot of staff to ask for help. A lot of things to do (eat or shop) to kill time at the station. A mall like experience.
These days, the trains to Redditch are frequently late. It was delayed by roughly 10 minutes yesterday. Additionally, it was a clean station with several of shops and helpful employees.
Birmingham station has got a new installation. A giant moving bull (from the Commonwealth games). It is impressive. The station is great - modern, lots of shops and restaurants.
It's a nice experience I was there on 3rd September 2023 on a board going to Worcester forgate street It's an awesome experience I really loved there train is unique
I come through Birmingham New Street nearly every weekend whilst on the train to visit my partner. It's a lovely train station with many shops and restaurants there.
Amazing new sculpture celebrating Para Athletics , Birmingham 22 and The Commonwealth Games. Has a qr code on the side so you can easily find out about the artist.
Got a big upgrade and is much better . Easy access out and into the platforms. Plenty of shops/cafes to grab a bite. The platforms still look old and worn though.
Impressive building hiding a massive station behind. Feels very spread out but the addition of coloured zones make finding the right platform a lot easier.
Great train station. Although big it is clear where to go. There are free toilets and plenty of eateries. It's right in the middle of Birmingham too
This station is some of the busiest and a biggest station. There is a well known shopping center street which starts just from outside the station.
Easy access to platforms and plenty of seating. Can be tricky to find which platform your train leaves from and displays are old style and slow.
A very large train stations, one of the nicest Station I seen in the UK. It has the big mechanical Bull in there which gives it a unique look.
Birmingham New Street is a train station with a Grand Central shopping center in it. Easily and conveniently accessable to the City center.
Very big station, but convenient. Shopping centre right inside and another big one nearby. Right near the city centre. Looks pretty nice.
Nice station. Plenty of seating and food options when waiting for a connecting train. Multiple toilets so never a queue.
Train station, kept clean and in working order. Useful location with food courts close. Large, spacious, bright.
Love this station, now there are many more seats added and you can shop in grand central while you wait
Everything in one place: shops, restaurants, cinema, and cafés. All accessible by the train station.
Great station there’s so much to do it’s like a shopping centre and train station all in one
Very busy station, beautiful but abit rowdy. The staff are friendly, courteous and helpful
