The owner, Amy, came to my home and bought a pile of books (a few very old ones) from me for $270 and said before leaving that if there were any books she didn't evaluate properly, i.e. if they were undervalued by her original offer, that I would receive 30 to 40% of her sold price when they were sold. This verbal agreement seemed quite fair, I agreed and she left. It was many months later that I checked Bison Books website that I discovered two books from the pile she had purchased were listed at $100 and $1000. I called the store, talked with Amy, who told me she had placed a slip of paper in the books as a reminder of the verbal deal we made so if the books were sold I would get my agreed upon portion. A couple years passed and late last year I found out the $1000 book was not listed any more. I called the store, talked with Amy, who confirmed the book listed at $1000 had indeed been sold but for much less, in the $200+ range. I mentioned the verbal deal and slip of paper reminder and she casually said the paper must have fallen out, and she had to deal with more than one other dealer to find a buyer and she probably 'lost' money on the deal... This was quite the different person who gladly bought my books and gave me a fair verbal agreement for books she wasn't totally sure of value-wise. This is not a reliable or honest owner (or business) who was quite smug in brushing me off and reneging on our verbal agreement. Seller beware. In reply to your reply: Sure, Amy, my memory is fine, how's yours? It wasn't a decade ago, more like 5 years, max. (check your cancelled cheque) You hung up on me after your long-winded excuse-fest of why you're not liable to give me my verbally-agreed upon share from selling that book. My patience was thin and I said you sounded 'slimy', which was my reaction to being excused away. My apology was immediate but there was no "understanding" to be had. Do you deny the slip of paper reminder thing never happened? Do you deny saying it probably fell out? Do you deny telling me at point of sale that if any books you weren't sure of would yield me a 30-40% portion of the sale price, that is if you under-valued them originally? These points are unanswered in your reply. No concern to you, obviously. My anonymity is practical considering all the spam, hackers and identity thieves polluting the net. Sorry that bothers you.

I have had nothing but the very best of experiences with Bison Books and it’s staff. Everything I have ever ordered has been better than advertised and at extremely fair prices. It is a top notch shop run by top notch people who know their stuff. They have treated me the way we all wish to be treated - with the utmost respect and sincerity. Not sure if I’ll ever get to Winnipeg, but if so, Bison will be my first stop! Keep up the good work. Can’t wait to find my next treasure.

Great used book store, the fact that they specialize in first editions and other rare titles means that the rest of their stock is all good quality. I often find other used book stores have non-fiction sections filled with low quality books. I only shopped for non-fiction and found everything on the shelf to be interesting, high quality titles. Prices on non-rare books were reasonable. This store also was much better organized than most used book stores. Highly recommend.

For several years I have both sold books to and purchased books from Bison Books. The owner and staff have always been friendly and polite, and have conducted themselves professionally. The books that have been shipped to me have been properly described, well packed, and arrived in a timely manner. I find the recent negative reviews of Bison Books to be quite odd-- Bison Books is a great bookshop with interesting books, and a friendly and helpful staff.

This place has it all! I love shopping here! (my wallet maybe less so) Bison Books is my fave bookstore in Winnipeg. The staff have always been wonderfully helpful. I always get amazingly fast response to online questions. They have a beautiful curated collection, with huge variety. You can tell they really value books, history, and the written word in general. ...also the book stacks on IG are like a parade of things I want to hold and treasure.

Great selection, awesome customer service. I cannot thank you enough for all the gems I found in your store, from WW2 booklets to XIXth century Scottish picture books. I'm just in love with the place and it will stay in my heart and mind for a long time. I hope that one day, wherever I settle on the face of this earth, I will open one of the books I purchased at BB and think of my Winnipeg days in a good and nostalgic way. All the best.

Bison Books has everything I want in a bookstore: it's clean, well organized, and full of surprises. You know that bookstore where you can browse for hours, find what you came for, and leave with a handful of treasures you didn't know existed, or thought you'd never find? This is the place. It's a little piece of magic tucked away in downtown Winnipeg, and my favourite place to spend an afternoon.

Love this spot. After being lucky enough to see "Imagine Van Gogh" in Oct 2020 I messaged Aimee to see if she had any Van Gogh books for my boys for Christmas. She whipped up a selection and held them for me for the week till I could make it in to peruse them. Ditto for multiple other requests over the years. Love supporting this fantastic local biz!!

One of my longtime favourite local shops. It’s the dreamiest home for rare and used books. It’s filled my bookshelf with poetry, fiction and cookbooks by my favourite people. I always look forward to browsing this beautifully curated shop. The owner is the sweetest and so knowledgeable. This place is definitely a gem of Winnipeg!

I would like to give this a higher rating, but the people working there couldn't treat customers any worse. If you have any questions about books they don't personally like, they will treat you like you shouldn't be there. While I liked the store itself, the pretentiousness of the workers turned me off from coming back.

Amazing selection of history books. Some are a little overpriced in my opinion but the diversity of books and some you can’t find anywhere else makes it worth it. You may want to consider bussing there as close to many bus routes but not super convenient parking especially in winter.

Fantastic store. They get new stuff in pretty well every day. All kinds of fantastic books. Some long out of print. You never know what you'll find, so it's best to pop in whenever you get a chance. Everything is always reasonably priced and staff are friendly and knowledgeable.

One of my favourite antiquarian bookstores in Canada. Friendly (which you don't always find in some antiquarian shops!) and knowledge staff willing to take the time to answer my questions and show me books in locked cases. Keep up the excellent work!
