Outstanding work and professionalism. This fall we decided to get our ensuite bathroom renovated. The work involved pretty much gutting it: removing the tiny shower, replacing that space with shelving, and removing a jacuzzi tub and replacing that space with a bigger shower, and of course all the flooring/tiling/painting/lighting that goes with it. We had gotten one quote from a representative of another contracting company, who we had seen around the neighbourhood, who had come in and flippantly estimated a very high cost for the work. They lost us immediately. We had gone to Black Bear previously to have some electrical work done in our kitchen by Mark, John's son, so they were our next estimate. John came over a couple of times to sit down and talk to us about the many options we could have with the work we wanted done. I should also point out how impressed I was with the initial quote format. John had laid out all the costs and details in a nice layout, and from there we were able to go through it and figure out how we wanted to go from there. John was very patient with us :) Once the work started, it was obvious that we were in good hands. For one thing, he had sealed off the area so the demo debris and dust wouldn't get into the bedroom. At the end of each day, he would totally clean up. From the stairs, hallway and bedroom, you wouldn't know reno work was being done. John also discovered a fault from the original builder of our home: the ceiling of the bathroom had been peeling paint for a few years. We had attributed that to the fact that there wasn't a fan in the bathroom, but while John was in the attic to install the pot lights and fan he discovered that the builders had initially cut an attic entrance in the bathroom ceiling by mistake and sealed it again. But they did not replace the insulation! So John made sure it was well insulated. If he hadn't caught that, we would have had the same problem again and again. We now have an amazing bathroom at a very fair cost. John is extremely meticulous and obviously takes pride in his work. I know he spent a lot of time making sure the hexagon tiling on the shower floor looked just right (I would have lost my mind), and the entire bathroom is immaculate. I can't imagine a better experience with a contractor. John's a very nice guy who went over and above to be sure we were satisfied. From coming back to adjust the shower temperature after installation to spending over two hours on a Saturday morning with my wife at a quartz shop to help resolve a mixup on their part, many days we'd be talking about how glad we were that we chose John for the job. The next time we need any sort of reno job done, there is no question: Black Bear will be our go-to. Thanks again, John and Mark. We are so happy with our new ensuite!

A very positive experience. I had a number of small domestic jobs that needed doing and I was not comfortable doing them myself. Mark was the one electrical to response (out of five) and came round to quote the job. Even when the others bothered to respond it was clear Mark was better geared towards these smaller domestic jobs. The others seemed to want a bigger job list. Talked me through the work and costs, very upfront that there would be additional costs for new breakers that need to be fitted by code and suggested better solutions to the problems I had. Arrived on time, got the work done and cleaned up afterwards. The work was done over several days and each time I got an email reminder the day before. On each occasion he arrived at the time agreed. The work standard is good, I have some experience in UK electrical work but not Canadian code. I have other work for the spring and will defiantly be using Mark again. The price was value for money, he gave options on cheaper options but explained why the slightly ($5 more) cover boxes where better. Never pressured me and all conversations very polite and cordial. Strongly recommend him and happy to give references.

John and Mark were amazing to work with. John is a true craftsmen stopping at multiple steps of the way to ensure your design is implemented the way you want. The quality of work is second to none. John always ensures the work site is very clean at the end of the day and tries to be as un intrusive as possible. If John has a sub complete a portion of the job he manages the whole process and has vetted the work of each sub he uses. The quality of the subs is equal to Johns professional standards. We loved working with BlackBear so much that after they finished a complete overhaul of the kitchen we had them back to complete the o suite bathroom. Thanks so much John and I would recommend BlackBear to anyone who wants to work a construction company that is friendly, professional, and delivers a beautiful finished product.

Black Bear completed two bathroom renovations in our home in 2022 for which Mark handled the electrical requirements and John looked after everything else - coordinating tearing out the old fixtures, gutting and replacing the walls and floors, glass shower, tile, and plumbing installation. The quote he provided at the start of the job was the same as the final invoice - no surprises! Every step was completed efficiently and at the end of the day the worksite was cleaned up ready for the next day. A year later both bathrooms are functioning beautifully and the finishing looks as fresh as it did the day it was done. Communication was clear and prompt anytime I had questions. John always had time to give to my husband and I throughout the process.

Mark was great to deal with. Prompt on the email replies and we were able to be flexible on the date of the work. Costs came in as advertised and we pushed through and got the work done together! I learned the importance of making sure the screws on the covers are all in the same direction! ;) :D I really like supporting smaller businesses over 'the big guys' and Mark is a safe reliable bet. If I need electrical help again, I'd be calling him again. Service: pigtailing aluminum wiring and replacement of all electrical switches, plugs, etc and an electrical panel replacement. Passed ESA inspection / certificate received.

Best electrician I have met to date. From upgrading my panel, completing the electrical for my sauna and hot tub and even installation for my generac, Mark Dods did everything to a high standard and a smile on his face. I highly and strongly recommend Black Bear because of the quality of work produced and stood behind. Cost was excellent and fair, the results were better than imagined and the product was clean and beautiful. I asked Mark to upgrade my panel and add a subpanel in the garage. He went above and beyond by using metal conduit and quality components and a future-proof design. He was always on time, organized, and very fair with his pricing - worth every penny! He even went as far as to use a laser level to make sure the conduits were perfectly horizontal and all the new sockets were aligned. I also appreciate him putting up with my constant design changes. Mark upgraded our electrical panel last season, we coordinated with the city for all permits and power cut-off, he worked diligently to minimize the time of power-outage given the weather conditions outside and that we both work from home. As surprises were found through the process (1970s house), he flexed his time and availability and would provide options as needed for solutions.

Mark scheduled and completed the electrical work for my job in a very timely manner. He was very professional throughout the process and made sure to leave the job site in the same state as when he arrived. Overall, a great experience. I would recommend Mark to anyone looking for their job to be completed on time and on budget with a high degree of professional quality.

Professional work at a competitive rate. I had a medium size residential job including relocating the power meter and the addition a sub panel. All work was done on time and on budget. Black Bear Electrical made it easy by taking care of all communications with Hydro and the ESA inspector. I would definitely hire again in the future.
