"Lovely bookstore! Great location with a close proximity to bus and train links and in a walking distance to town centre"
"It's time for honesty about bookshops"
"It has a really nice vibe"
"Just head upstairs for a coffee"
"Terrible place, ordered a board game from them on the 8th of December and still not received, it is now the 31st of December"
Lovely bookstore! Great location with a close proximity to bus and train links and in a walking distance to town centre. Staff is friendly and always there to lend a helpful hand. The prices are reasonable and their selection of books is fantastic! They have everything you will ever need for school or university or even kindergarten. Their selection of soft toys is impressive considering the fact that it’s a bookstore. You will find all occasions postcards as well as beautiful wrapping paper that is to die for! They also sell Manchester University merchandise which is reasonably priced. Their selection of books is also worth of mentioning as they have literally everything from thrillers, mysteries, horrors to poems, travelling guides, maps, children books and your typical coffee table books (which I am eyeing at the moment). There is also Caffè Nero situated upstairs where you can buy wide variety of drinks and sweet or savoury foods. They have a lovely designed seating arrangement with a cozy nook that if you are lucky enough you might seat in. The café is usually very crowded with students and university staffers but you can always order a takeout. Overall it is a very friendly and welcoming place. I would recommend. ✌
It's time for honesty about bookshops. I have to say I found this one disappointing. Manchester is a great city and Manchester University has a long and respected tradition. I expected much more from Manchester University bookshop. There are simply not enough academic titles on sale here, not nearly enough. The reason is not hard to find. Much of the ground floor is given over to best-selling fiction that can be had anywhere. And half of the top floor is given over to a coffee shop. I'm sorry, the staff are great, the location is wonderful, but the opportunity is wasted. Bookshops are for books, university bookshops are for the curiously minded who want to learn and to dig deep in specialist corners, not be merely entertained. And coffee shops are for coffee.
It has a really nice vibe. They host a multitude of events ranging from book signings to quizes. There is a charming little Caffe Nero tucked away on the first floor. One of the unique products that they sell are the mystery books (they remove the cover so you don't know the title or genre of the book). For University students they have an ample amount of academic textsbooks for the University of Manchester/Manchester Metropolitan/Salford.
Just head upstairs for a coffee. Far more civilized way to kill some time quietly, browsing and hopefully buying some books than a vending machine at the Co-op or Pret around the corner. Weather permitting - remember, this is Manchester - grab one of just a few tables outside. Watch the young world passing by. One of greatest campus coffee shop location, and I have seen quite a few of them.
Terrible place, ordered a board game from them on the 8th of December and still not received, it is now the 31st of December. Customer service just keep saying it will arrive when it’s clearly been lost in the post. The tracking details have said out for delivery for the past 2 weeks. Unless someone is backpacking across Europe with my parcel I doubt it’s actually on its way.
Staff were very helpful for the law books on medical ethics and human rights, that I plan to buy next week, once I have my own bank account open, following eviction by my in laws, and my research into my genetic condition (which almost certainty my older brother has too) , hidden by doctors in this city from birth, and the legal/ compensatory methods can finally begin.
Great selection of books, especially for Uni students, it always has what I'm looking for and their second hand scheme is great if you're on a budget. The guest speakers that they have sometimes are very interesting. The access lift is also consistently working & the accessible loo is pretty good - they need to make sure the red cord isnt tied up though!
I’ve found my new go-to bookstore!! The range of books is so good and there is everything you could possibly need. The store is organised so well and was easy to navigate. A lot better than similar leading bookstores in my opinion. Staff in this shop were super friendly and attentive too. Will be back often to fuel my book buying addiction!!
Came this evening, for an interview and book release of Still Lives, by Reshma Ruia. Blackwell's hospitality was attentive and welcoming, aided by samosas and glass of wine. Reshma was really interesting - tell us about how her novel came to be and the intricacies of it. Thank you to everyone involved - there was a lovely atmosphere!
Normally I'd go higher on ratings, but for a while now Blackwell's has been nothing more than a fairly unreachable gazebo not far from where the old store once stood... But now at the end of a torturous detour. Nevertheless, a fair range of books and reading tie-ins confounded by a lack of space with pleasant and helpful staff.
I cannot stress how impressed I am with the service I received. I needed to order a few books for my university course so rang to enquire if they had the books I needed. They had, they were discounted as a bundle for the course and I had them delivered by the next morning. Absolutely excellent service.
Nicely laid out store with plenty of books and plenty of space to roam around and browse. Certainly not cramped or claustrophobic. There was a "Sale" table but nothing that appealed. However I did get a couple of books from the "....A Graphic Guide" series, on the 3 for 2 offer.
A really convenient book shop located near most of the university buildings. It has a wide selection of books (textbooks and non-fiction) as well as some reasonably priced stationary that you can pick up if in need. With a cafe upstairs it also makes a nice place to study.
By far one of the worst booksellers in Manchester. Very poor selection of books available, and a shocking lack of non-fiction for an on-campus bookstore. Ordered online a few times too and was equally disappointed. Books took 2 weeks to arrive.
Nice little bookshop. Used to come here on my lunch break and browse the books. They didn't have the largest collection when I went to visit but most popular titles could be found. There's also a Caffe Nero upstairs too if you fancy a drink.
Standard bookshop, perfect bookshop smell and an in store branch of Nero coffee with indoor or outdoor seating. Friendly staff who go over and above to help. Google have asked me to update this review but I think it already covers it
Amazing idea to have a coffee shop with a book shop! Creates the best smell ! Kind staff as always really clean shop with a range of books - mainly for academic purposes but still a super range ! Really good philosophy section
Such a gem among the University of Manchester campus. Lots of excellent choices of books and other items of interest to suit anyone. Pop in and browse around before nipping upstairs for a coffee and a bite to eat in Cafe Nero.
Great staff lovely cosy place well looked after, new shop looks fantastic and has a coffee shop on the first floor. Everything in the right place for a bookshop a day out reading a book and sipping on some great coffee.
Live acoustic music and book signing with Rou Reynolds. Staff were kind and super helpful and were open and honest about having never done an event like this before but it went down without a hitch! Awesome evening!
Very knowledgeable staff . Customer service is excellent. Great kids section includes toys and games. Lots of Harry Potter merchandise. All books are sold at RRP or less. In fact most are below RRP. Excellent cafe.
Beautiful and spacious. Very friendly staff. Possible to order things at the shop for collection later (2-4 days). Lots of stationery to meet university needs and good collection of books (academic and otherwise).
The new home for Blackwells in the business centre is so good, nice and bright! The staff are friendly and will help you order something in if it's not there. The stock is extensive and it has a nice atmosphere.
The Blackwell’s at University of Manchester is ok, however, I wish they had a larger and more diverse collection of urban planning and design (UP&D) books, given that the university has a major UP&D department.
We absolutely love this place with its amazing choice of books, helpful staff and Nero coffee shop. If you like notebooks, they now sell notebooks that are made from old books (see photo). What a great idea
Nice little pop up shop whilst the building works are being done to the main building. Staff were friendly and the building clean and I totally forgot that I wasn't in a permanent building during my coffee.
Very nice atmosphere and a very cosy café upstairs. Great for getting you student books because they will match your price if you find a lower one anywhere. The staff is very friendly and willing to help.
Really like this bookshop it is very peaceful and super handy that is has a Cafe Nero I always pop in here on a Sunday whilst my daughter swims quite a few sale items to keep an eye out for …
Popup shop while new sections of the University are being built. The bookshop has a small but good selection. There is a Starbucks attached to it with very nice and helpful staff. Usually quite busy.
Lovely bookshop! They had a Cafe Nero inside with lots of books, gifts, and other items. However, some of the books were in the wrong categories, so it took me a lot longer to find them
I went there and enjoyed every corner of book section. This place offered 3 pay 2 promo and discount . I bought a book that got 3GBP off. On the second floor, there is a cafe there.
Beautiful place. Clean and definitely has a welcoming atmosphere. Great variety of books. Literally had all the accounting text books I needed so didn’t have to look elsewhere.
If you're a medic looking to buy a textbook, this store has a surprisingly vast array of options with all the big ones you'd ever really need. Also, the layout is dreamy!
Good range of university books. They can arrange as well some books to come if you order them and they do match price with amazon. Very convenient if you are at uni.
Friendly staff, cosy environment. Not a huge selection of books, but it's not a very big bookstore. It does have a nice cafe area upstairs, which is surely a plus.
The bookshop is a great place for students, who want books. I had coffee from Cafe Nero inside. It felt busy, but it was still quiet enough to hold a conversation.
Lovely lovely lovely. Food coffee people and books. What more could you possibly ask for? All surrounded by a brilliant world leading university. Sweet times x
Very nice bookshop, especially for students as they have sets of books available for MMU and UoM courses. A shame that they do not accept Waterstones cards.
Nice bookshop with a Caffe Nero upstairs. They will price match with Waterstones and the like which is really handy and saves you having to walk into town.
Fantastic bookshop. All genres covered, but a great selection of non-fiction books. Their popular science section is excellent. Very helpful staff as well.
The lady running the cafe this morning was amazing! So quick and skilled and kind to all the customers, my hot chocolate was incredible too- thank you!
Brilliant bookshop! Wonderful, inviting space to mooch around with a superb selection... Served by Jim upstairs today. What a thoroughly lovely chap A+
Friendly staff, easy access to many different books , and you can also order any book to be delivered there for collection by yourself . Love this shop
Great place to sit and while away a few hours in the coffee shop. Extensive range of books specialising in books for students at the local university.
Always love going here, has the cafe, can order anything in that you might want, does games and stationary, and gives student and uni staff discount
My favourite place for morning coffee. Friendly staff, nice cozy atmosphere and it’s super close to uni which is incredibly convenient!
Slightly different range of books compared to a normal 'High Street' bookshop probably due to its'proximity to the Universities.
Fantastic selection of books and some great deals! Really helpful staff. Cafe Nero is really good too. Great service all round!
Lovely bookshop with a good selection and a Caffé Nero on the second floor. Great place to browse, or to sit and catch a break.
Great selection of books as I always expect from Blackwell's. And with the bonus of very pleasant, helpful staff. Thanks.
Good bookshop with a convenient location and a good variety of choices. The staff is ok, a bit distracted but helpful.
A cracking little bookshop, a off branch of Waterstones and has the same amazing staff, the displays are lovely aswell
Lovely bookshop with friendly staff! You can easily enjoy your coffee in the little coffee shop!! Don't miss this :)
Nice cosy place, they don't have a manga section which is a bit of a bummer but I mainly click and collect my manga
Staff are very warm and inviting, prices are fair and it has vast selection of books not found in larger retailers.
The shop also includes a costa coffe shop upstairs, close to the University will be popular when University open
Friendly and Helpful Staff with a Wide Range of Books and if they dont have what you need, they'll order it in!
Helpful for uni books but they never seem to have all the necessary books until the semesters already started
Great book shop. Good selection. Cafe Nero as well. Browse the books and great coffee what more can you want.
One of the finest bookstores. Has books from all genres, a huge collection spread over more than 3 stories.
Great but can sometimes be limited in their stock. Never had any issues with Blackwell’s. Friendly staff.
The perfect bookshop away from the bustle of town with a coffee shop above. What more could you want?
Friendly staff and they have a wonderful cafe if you just want somewhere to sit and relax for a bit
Wonderful selection of books and stationary with a coffee shop on the upper level. Friendly staff.
A lovely bookshop, spacious and stocking a good selection of books. A lovely cafe upstairs.
To be fair I went in to grab a nice coffee. I love books but the focus was on the brew.
Not a great academic stock in store considering it is on the middle of the university
Nice bookshop, logically aimed at students. Nice to have decent coffee shop inside.
For me: science and humanities interests, I prefer it here to Waterstones, in town.
Nice range of books, games etc. Could have a better stationary selection
Lovely bookshop and patient staff, although I'd love if it was quieter
Love the place! Definitely worth roaming for good, interesting finds!
Large variety of books, easy to navigate and absolutely lovely staff
Great little book shop with cafe Nero upstairs. Cosy and welcoming.
best bookshop in Mcr Great selection of contemporary and classics.
Great books for students and the public. Nice coffee shop too.
This bookshop and the cafe inside is a great place to visit.
Great place and cafe! Recommended to all MMu students
Lovely peppermint tea and pleasant friendly staff.
Fabulous selection of books and games, gifts etc
beautiful place with a cozy coffee shop on top
This is a huge book shop, well worth a visit.
Nice bookshop with Caffè Nero on 1st floor
Great place to relax and read a book
Well stocked, very helpful staff.
