If I could give them zero stars I would. My friend and I are Egyptian and African American respectively. We walked up to the store and were immediately given a "look" by the woman standing outside. She then opened the door for us, we were very polite and said, thank you as we walked in. We looked around for some wine, made our selection and went up to the front. I put my selection on the counter, she asked for both of our IDs and when they were handed over, she proceeded to study them like they were fakes immediately. I am 32 years old, my friend is 29, we look our ages. We both have valid, local, non expired FL licenses. The woman then calls over a gentleman who was sitting at the front of the store, says something to him in another language and then says, "I do not recognize." We questioned her because we didn't understand what that meant and she said, "I do not recognize, I do not sell." So just to confirm we asked if she was refusing to sell to us. She said yes, so we put our merchandise down and left. If you need beer or wine go to Publix around the corner and if you need liquor there is a place north on Southside to the left. Please don't give these people your money.
I was searching around for a liquor store that was nearby and came across Bombay liquor. It was just down the street from my hotel from where I was staying at while I was here for work. I read some of the reviews and I almost decided to go someplace else but... I thought I would give it a try cuz you can't always trust one person's opinion against another's. I walked in and was greeted and noticed that there was a man and what I assumed would be his wife in the store. They seemed pretty quiet and reserved. I have been throughout the world and experienced many cultures and some cultures are just kind of quiet and very respectful. I should respect, and they should respect as well. Sometimes that's all it takes. The selection was good in the price was reasonable. I did not have a problem with the transaction and when I left I was given a thank you which is perfectly polite. I recommend this store, and I recommend people to treat others as they would want to be treated. tilak.
Do not go here go to Anjo liquors right down the road! They’re super friendly and knowledgeable. The first time I went here they refused to sell to me - after making me state my birthday, my address, and swiping my ID. Super embarrassed, but I went back because it’s right next to my apartment. And they always quiz me about my ID AND ask I have a second form of ID - (I’m almost 22). Anytime I’ve ever asked for help they silently walk over and point them walk back. They are not personable at all, no hello when you walk in. Instead the eye you down the entire time you’re in the store. Then when you cash out the only thing they’ll say to you is “26.28 - here” and push you out the door. And god forbid you come 30 mins before closing time you’ll here - they basically chase you around the store before kicking you out. Definitely won’t be back after finding Anjo Liquors today on Baymeadows by the gate, goodwill & southside service road
Just way too many choices for liquor stores in this area, to bother with a place so rude and seemingly uninterested in my business. Felt like I was under a microscope the moment I opened the door, and yet with all eyes watching my every movement not one person ever bothered to ask if I needed any help finding anything. The store is pretty cluttered and disorganized, but I did find what I needed. After purchasing without one word said from anybody, I said "thank you have a good night", and still, not a single word from anybody. To be honest, can't help but wonder what the hell is really going on behind this business.. never seen a small business like this seem so annoyed to have somebody actually come in to do business with them. What a bizarre experience.
This is the worst liquor store I have ever been to. Honestly she looked at my id and asked for another form I pulled out my debit card and credit card and then she wanted my passport. She then proceeded to tell me I should go somewhere else with a nasty attitude. I'm pretty sure she told me to go somewhere else approximately five times. I am not deaf and I heard her the first time. So she can take her discussing self to a job that does not work in customer service or with human beings because I would never treat one of my customers with such disrespect. That woman is a joke and so is that ghetto liquor store with ratchet sales associates that don't help at all. HA, she didn't even give me my receipt either. Unbelievable.
I wanted to take a moment to leave a review for the terrible customer service. I greeted the lady at the counter upon walking in and just got a stare rather than a hello. She could not be bothered to pause her conversation in Gujarati. I felt like she was just watching me. I found a bottle of bourbon that I liked (St. Augustine port finish - an $80 bottle) but felt that they didn't deserve my business. My feelings were confirmed as I left to exit, giving the lady at the counter a Nod and a thanks. She just continued her phone conversation. Zero customer service. No wonder the store was empty. Not even a thanks for coming in. Go to any other store, these people do not care whether you shop there or not.
Never been treated so poorly when spending so much money at a place. I'm 26 and was questioned about my dob, address, etc on my ID for no reason. I politely answered all questions and then asked "what forces you to have to question ppl like that, esp when they are clearly of age?" The response came from both the cashier and her helper sitting by the door. They talked over each other other saying "if you don't like it just don't come here, go somewhere else"... I stared blankly, smiled and walked out. Can't believe this place can stay in business treating customers this way. Poor selection and prices, paired with this absurd experience will keep me from ever taking my business here again.
If I could give negative stars I would. My roommate and I both turned 21 within two days. We both went in on my birthday and were immediately frowned upon and judged for going in there. Being new to alcohol I would have liked to walk around and look some, but immediately felt like I needed to leave as soon as possible. The guy there took BOTH me and my roommates ID and ran them through a machine, scrutinized our pictures, had us verify our addresses and birthdays, scanned them with a light, and then sign a paper bag to compare signatures. You can not run a small business and not be friendly; even though we live close by, neither of us will ever set foot in that store again.
Awful experience. I visited this store with my boyfriend who is visiting from Sweden. Although I was purchasing the alcohol, they instead asked for his ID. He showed them his government-issued Swedish ID and the man behind the counter stated, "Because you are foreign, we need your passport". He didn't have his passport with him at the time and we asked if a copy would work. The guy said he wouldn't sell to us without the physical copy. Incredibly rude during the entire ordeal. Please don't buy from them until they learn the meaning of customer service.
DON'T EVEN WASTE YOUR TIME AT THIS PLACE. Complete garbage. Seriously, just drive to the Town Center. Or anywhere else. I have an out-of-state ID and they 1) pulled out a book and studied it for two minutes. 2) Used a UV light. 3) Scanned it using a machine. 4) Asked me to recite my birthday and my address. 5) ASKED ME FOR ANOTHER PICTURE ID. Took entirely too long and they were extremely rude. Also, they jack up the prices. I will be telling everyone I know not to go there. Hopefully they go out of business.
Extremely poor customer service. They would not accept my fiancee's state ID because it was slightly bent even though I was the purchaser. Both the attendant behind the counter and his wife/female counterpart were incredibly rude, immediately wrote us off, and would not even entertain a discussion. We were treated as if we were a burden for having come into their store. Initially we didn't understand how a liquor store could have received such a poor rating but we learned the hard way and will never return.
I went here to get some drinks and was immediately looked at like I was doing something wrong just by stepping through the door. I chose my drinks and headed to the counter anyway. When I gave her my license she inspected it and me over 10 times! Swiped it, punched it, highlighted it, the works to ensure it wasn't fake. I even gave her my military ID to show I had to forms and she acted like I was giving her fake cards. I have not been back since and will go out my way to stay away from here.
Same thing as everyone else. I live right by there so it was close. Went in picked out some stuff, she looked at my idea which looks like me, and refused to sell to me. I gave her multiple forms of id including my debit and credit cards my student id. All of which look like me. she asked me about my id and I answered her questions. She then said she couldn't sell to me. Worst place ever. I'd give them 0 stars if I could
My main issue with this place is the over-priced, poor selection. The employees are not polite in person or on the phone - if they even care to answer at all. It honestly does not feel like they care if the store does well or not. Very disappointing. Do not waste time or money going to this location. There are other liquor stores that are around the area that will be worth an extra few minutes of driving time.
No idea why there are so many negative reviews. If you go to a liquor store and complain about having to show your I.d the problem is YOU not the store. I stop here after work frequently and have never had a single issue. The owners are very friendly, have always been polite to me and they have a large selection. The prices are more than fair and competitive with similar stores. I will keep going back.
0 STARS! My husband and I have bought alcohol here multiple times despite the horrible customer service (from every employee) but we won't be back after they refused to sell to us because my husbands ID wasn't "Recent enough" even after checking his debit card to match the names. Not to mention they have a small selection and high prices. Save yourself the headache and go a little farther.
Priced to high. On vacation in Jacksonville never seen a Bombay liquor or even have one in New Mexico. Took a picture of the name of the business and was accused of taking pictures of the owner? Then at check out the cashier put my ID in the bag and accused me of misplacing my ID. Been here for a week and that guy and lady in Bombay liquor were the rudest people on my whole trip.
Just go somewhere else. The lady at the counter went out of her way to be demeaning. I hated the way I felt on my way our from there. If you need beer, go to the publix next door. If you need liquor, go ANYWHERE ELSE, brew it yourself if you have to. Just dont go here, its absolutely terrible and worse prices than ABC where they have respect for the customer.
Do not go to this liquor store they are very rude and they will haress you al the way to the counter. We were rushed out the store and told that they had other customers after spending almost 100$ !!!!! Very rude throws money and the lady also tried to snatch the drinks out of my hand from off the counter!! Don’t buy from here shut the business down!!!!!!
I have been a customer of theirs for five or more years it's always been a pleasant experience it's always clean and they're always polite and will answer questions as long as you ask him and usually if they don't get it and you're a regular they will try to get it in for you and I think they have pretty good prices compared to some of the other places
We were in town for a game and stopped by despite the reviews (it was close, and to be honest...we were curious). Two of us are from Georgia and one is from North Carolina. We're all pretty young and we ran into no trouble with our IDs being denied. They weren't overly friendly, but our experience was just fine.
They have a decent selection, but they seriously scrutinize every ID. The woman at the counter made me recite my address and acted like I was lying. I've never been treated this way when purchasing alcohol anywhere else. It's embarrassing. Drive an extra 2 minutes to Touchdown Liquors -- they're super friendly.
don't bother going here. I was just refused my purchase despite having been here 6+ times because I have an out of state, yet legal, license. mind you this lady has carded me AND verified my passport before. Then, a white man walks in behind me, isn't even carded, and sold liquor no problem. ridiculous
I really like this place. I've lived in the area for about three years and have never had a negative experience and have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. For those complaining about being carded, they HAVE to card you. If you are of age I'm not sure why that would even be an issue...
Unprofessional and very rude. I have a CA license they looked in the book, shined a light on it, compared my picture to me several time, spoke in another language, and ask if I had another id which makes no sense unless I was military. These people need to be shut down. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!!!
Denied my out of state license bc the "book" said 6 years and my ID renewed on my birthday in 6.5 yrs rather than the date of issuance. They didn't understand their own reference so I was forced to go someone else. They must've gotten popped for doing something illegal thus we all suffer.
The guy behind the counter is always so nice! And he was able to let me know when he was restocking my favorite alcohol (Twenty Grand Gold Vodka Cognac), so polite! Now, it is small, but I bet if you're a regular and let him know what you want, he'd probably try to order it for you!
Horrible service. The cashier was rude, then used a special machine to run the validity of my drivers license and stared me down like I was convicted of a crime. A little over the top. If you feel THAT suspicion of everyone who walks through your door, you're in the wrong business.
Total wine will always ne the best. No matter who you are or what you look like you will get the burning eyes in the back of the head stare... Prices okay but for all you near this location just drive towards john town center right to Total Wine you wont regard it.
Do not waste your money here. I'm over 21, showed them 3 different IDs, verified my address as well as my signature, then they plainly refused to sell me alcohol solely because "I looked too young." Won't be getting service from me again as well as anyone I know.
Service 0 out of 10. Ended up walking out of the store empty handed due to poor service. After the service my fiancé and I received I can see why their reviews are so poor. Just go to Total Wines in St. John’s Town Center. The prices are much better.
If I can leave no star I would I came in here to purchase liqour with my ID & refused service the lady or owner was very disgusting very rude very nasty lady before I walked in the store she was standing outside when a lady walked in she
My girlfriend who is 23 years old was denied service because her ID was "expired" and didn't "match up with their scanner". I told her to go back and call the cops if she was denied service again. Her ID expires in 2017...
I don't expect too much from a liquor store, but these people have zero customer service. Very rude and stare you down as you shop and then take ten minutes to verify age/id. We won't be buying here again.
Swiped my ID several times to verify my ID. Still refused to sell to me and I am 27 years old. The woman working the counter is extremely rude. Don't bother shopping at this store.
Small no frills locally owned liquor store, not as much of a selection because of their size. Staff was pleasant and their location is convenient as it is close to Publix.
They're the closest. Not friendly, not fairly priced. Just convenient every now and again. Oh, and count on one of the workers/owners eating a meal next to the checkout.
Please do not shop here. We all work too hard to spend money with rude, disrespectful, and egregious people. Please go elsewhere. Zero stars do not recommend.
This is a great local liquor store! Service is excellent! It is great to trade with people who always remember who you are! I highly recommend Bombay Liquor!
Listen people, these people are scammers don't buy from them . They have an old expired selection, at a very high price. They are rude and extremely cheap.
DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY THERE! The owners are super rude and unprofessional. The prices are high and they don’t have a lot of options. 0 stars!!!!
They are always very friendly and polite with me and anyone else I know that goes there. I've gone here for years and will continue to do so.
So rude and stared me down when I walked in? Unsure why, and then they gave me a hard time for my normal Florida ID... suspicious people!
The owners and family are very nice and helpful. Prices are good. I like the fact that they have a few 2 ltrs in a chill chest as well
It's small store and didnt have much of as selection. The employees weren't very friendly. Everything felt cramed in there
horrible service horrible horrible horrible! i don’t recommend going just cause of their disgusting service
Small local liquor store. Small collection that will meet the needs of most people upto the very particular
Indicated a minimum $5 purchase. No signs indicating such. Not very talkative and very unfriendly.
DO NOT BUY HERE! The owners are incredibly rude to their customers and refuse to answer questions.
Huge selection. 2 aisles of wall to wall bottles all sizes. Fridge for beers and soft drinks.
Yeah they are very cold in this liquor store !! You feel uncomfortable asking for help !!!
The selection wasn’t all that very small liquor store and I felt like I was being watched
The staff looks at you as you're a thief. Ok store with a standard selection.
Convenient liquor store cool staff they should open longer hours tho!
Not enough parking area. Don't have much of options for "new" items.
Good selection and price, only place to find RYANS cream liquor!!!
Terrible customer service, lady who works there is extremely rude.
They had what I needed, in and out in 2 minutes with no problems.
Gave her my ID and for no reason wouldn't sell to me.... Odd.
