"I went to this over hyped restaurant yesterday"
September 2023 update: We ordered again recently and ran the gauntlet with Bombay... Put our order in online at 3:45pm for a 4:45-5:30pm delivery. 4pm they call and advise the website is not working properly and despite selecting delivery, we were not charged the $8 delivery fee, then asked my wife to give her CC details over the phone...(great) 4:30pm - They call to advise it will be between 5:15 and 5:30 delivery, we thank them for the update and look forward to our food. 5:40pm - My wife calls and asks where the food is, they say the delivery driver has just left and it should be at ours in 5mins. Great! 5:50pm - I call them back to ask where the food is, they advise its en-route and has just left... I remind them they told us this at 5:40pm and we live 1km away (2min drive)... so if the food did leave at 5:30pm it's now cold. 6:05pm - I call back and advise them I will come down and pick it up, and that I'd expect a delivery refund and we were not impressed, we have 2 kids who've been waiting for food since 5pm (remember we ordered before 4pm) 6:10pm - I got in my car to go and collect the curry, delivery driver arrives. I begrudgingly accept the delivery, I let the delivery driver know how unimpressed we are, but reinforce I'm aware its not their fault but to pass on feedback. I advise I'll be updating my review, so people can know what they are really like. The food was cold when it arrived, we ordered 2x Indian Butter chicken (medium) and 2x Naan and 2x saffron rice. (Which was about $80 with the delivery fee) 1 butter chicken was super mild, no heat at all. The other was super spicy to the point the kids couldn't eat it. Naans were cold and rubbery and the rice was cold. Staff called my wife around 6:30pm and said they were very sorry for the stuff up, they advised that the manager would call us the following day to organise a refund or a free meal as compensation. Well... that call never came These guys once had great food, the customer service was always shocking...but the food was great. Now the food has lost its edge and the customer service has deteriorated even further. My advice... give these guys a miss! ****************** (Original review) Let me be clear and explain why I gave 3 stars and not 5. The food here is without a doubt 5 stars! Nearly every time I order a delivery they are missing an item, now normally it wouldn't be a big deal, but when you're charging close to $7 for a Naan, you get a bit annoyed when it gets left behind. At least 3x I've ordered from here, only to have food delivered to my door and be missing items. To be fair, each and every time they have made the item available for me and thrown in a free drink or something else to say sorry. However when you have hungry kids and have already waited 1hr plus for your food, when items are missing it means you then have to either drive down to collect your items (After already paying for delivery) or sit and wait another hour while your food gets cold and wait for another delivery. Staff are friendly and always address any issues. Prices are high, however the food quality is also very high. Highly recommend the 'Indian Butter Chicken' they offer two variants, pay the extra $2-3 for the Indian/Traditional option, it's well worth it. The garlic and cheese naan's are also amazing (hence why we get so frustrated when they don't get delivered)

We went to celebrate our sisters birthday , requested to see if they can do anything special for special occasions but said No. We took the cake , flowers, balloons ourselves and we setup or say laid them on the table ourselves as it was surprise for her. We were only 5 people. We surprised her we cut the cake and requested them to put in the fridge and later asked them to bring it. They asked if we needed plates, asked for 3 plates and we had desert and went to pay the bill. To our shock, they charged us $10 for cake corkage saying that they charge this to everyone who brings the cake. It doesn’t make sense ! That was our cake, we setup the table ourselves, we asked them to put it in the fridge while we were having dinner ( they were hesitant). All they did was bright 3 serving plate n cutlery to us. Had to wait and waved several times to waitress for menu, even though they had only two tables occupied. Ordered entree, as soon as it arrived , we were not finished with the entree the main dish was brought ! What’s the point of having entree and mains if you don’t know why is it entree and main ! It’s ridiculous how they are robbing people with these extra charges. They charged extra $2 for hot water ! Omg ! No lie the food is amazing, but the portion is too small. Service is ok because the staff they look confused all the time . But these service charge without informing beforehand is ridiculous. No hard feelings for the staff but the boss n management should stop ripping off people. $2 for hot water ! Other places do complimentary piece of cake n make people feel welcomed n special on special occasion however these people are ripping off people during their special occasion! Wasn’t kid friendly at all because they didn’t have space to park a pram beside table. Every time they would bring food they would bring it over the baby , which made us very scared as accidents happens. They were not careful or considerate that there was a baby in the parked pram. Management needs to pay attention to these things. Food is amazing , the only thing that is keeping this place running !

This place is an absolutely ridiculous. I strongly suggest DO NOT GO! Why can’t we have a really decent service and food! The reason I’m giving 1 ⭐️ (I couldn’t make it lower as much as I wanted) is that the waitresses asked us to move table from the window to 0.5 meter proximity of the toilet’s door when the restaurant became crowded suddenly. Obviously people using toilet so I saw people going in and out that little room! When having my meal. This occurred when I had a booking and in the middle of having meal and wine! (just imagine that). I regret and I should have not accepted. Regardless, the table was placed there for us or someone else. I cannot tolerate discriminatory behavior from others spreading out even in a restaurant!!!! (I saw the table given to someone else- perhaps a friend?)!!!! So disappointing…. The food which cost around $100 was also came like a charcoal (burnt), for real. Too many people there, perhaps rushed to prepare! The menu looks good and they have everything listed, from my experience, NOT everything is available unfortunately! For example, they ran out of eggplant (for pakora)! And they didn’t have my first and second choice of WINE! Who would really go to this place?! I just strongly discourage.

Considering the great reviews and others seeming like they were having an effortless and nice experience, we really wanted to love this place so much! We were greeted very politely by the staff although we waited a very long time to get the food menu and service just seemed a little messy. We didn't have just one server so it was quite confusing for us to communicate and get things across efficiently. I have a gluten allergy and also eat halal so I was happy to see that they cater for both. I really wish they could label which things are able to be made gluten free on the menu to avoid the miscommunication we had with the staff. After all, it is an allergy and it should be the servers obligation to study the menu or get it through to the kitchen without me having to keep assuring I need the dishes to be. It’s already very difficult to ask and assure restaurants about my allergy, and I personally felt like the servers were getting annoyed which ruined my overall experience. Other than that, the food was great and so fresh! (except for the gluten free naan which was personally flavourless and lacked texture)

I went to this over hyped restaurant yesterday. Terrible service, after placing the order straightaway, had to wait 40 mins to be served. Waitress had no clue what we ordered, we have been served with the spiciest level out of assumption because of our skin colour I bet. My friend clearly heard me, when i said we want our food to be medium spicy. Waiting game started and was serviced after everyone. Out of the two dishes one turned outbto be very hot whilst the other one was ok. Unsure what happened there, informed the waitress and she mentioned, she heard hot. After asking why the other dish was ok, she mentioned its because of the meat. Ordered a takeaway which took 1 and half hour as well. The spice level was beyond our limit, had to return it and they offered a new one. I didnt have the guts to eat the one they gave. Waited for the takeaway, and was served with beef curry- Horrible-Salty and a waste of time & money. I'd advise to avoid this place on friday night and weekends, they simply cant take the pressure. Very very dissapointed!

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Very poor service, we waited 45 minutes for food only to come out cold. Asked staff multiple times where our food was and it was always “nearly ready”. On top of that, 2 dishes weren’t even made, had to ask again and they said will take another 20 minutes for those. Asked for chillies from the staff and they said sure, no surprise they forgot and nothing was brought out. There was no plates or service spoons to eat food once it did finally come out. Had to ask multiple times for plates and that too took 10 minutes to come out. Food portions were also extremely small for it’s price, not fulfilling. Even the bill took 15 minutes to come out and we had to ask 2 different staff members for it, once again no surprises that when it did finally come out the bill was also completely wrong, charged for dishes we didn’t order. This place has 0 service, would not recommend this place to anyone. For a place that takes $20pp as a deposit you would expect a whole lot better. Plenty of better restaurants on the strip than this one. Never again.

This place used to be one of my favourite in the area. But what we were provided with tonight was a disgrace! Firstly, we ordered a single curry plus a naan. On collection we discovered there had been a price increase of $6, granted it has actually been a few months since we have eaten here, ok sure, $30 a curry is expensive, but it's a local business and the curries are good, but then there was an extra $2 for large. We didn't order a large, but sure ok, thanks for making it a large. But then we opened the box to find it looked like it had already had a serve taken out, the curry was not even half way filling the box it came in. This being a normal size serving would be light on, but calling it a large. Sorry, but you guys have just lost a loyal customer of over 4 years! You need to reconsider your pricing if your serves are going to be less than they used to be.

Bombay on the Beach offers a flavorful journey for your taste buds with a beautiful ambience . Plenty of options for vegetarians to pick from . The spice levels were catered to perfection with beautiful presentation. While the paneer was a bit dry and lacha parata was dry too , the mushroom curry was out of this world. The highlight of the meal was the Kashmiri naan, which was truly exceptional. We would visit again just to have the Kashmiri naan again . The staff were friendly and the ambiance was cozy. Overall, despite the minor flaw, Bombay on the Beach is a must-visit for those seeking authentic Indian cuisine by the beach .

The food was really good. But the customer service was really poor. Felt really disappointed with the customer service. We had to wait for about 1.5hrs to serve the main course. After serving the curry the naan was brought after 15-20mins. We went with kids and it was really had to manage the kids as the service was not proper. When we asked for the plates for main course the front staff sorry you have to wait as we are out of plates at the moment. They gave discount for the naan as they were served late but please keep in mind that customer service should be the first priority because that’s the first think people consider while good to a place. After the whole week of hectic work load when we go to enjoy a dinner night and when this happens it makes the mind really unhappy.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Bombay on the beachand I am still in awe of the unforgettable experience I had! From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by tantalizing aromas and an ambiance that whisked me away to the vibrant streets of India. Let me begin by praising the impeccable presentation of every dish. Each plate was a true work of art, meticulously crafted with attention to detail. The vibrant colors, the artistic arrangement, and the delicate garnishes added an extra layer of enchantment to the dining experience. It was clear that the chefs here take immense pride in their culinary creations, treating each plate as a masterpiece.

I had the pleasure of dining at an exquisite Indian restaurant last night. It was an unparalleled culinary experience, especially with the delectable grilled goat, which left me in awe. The service provided was commendable, ensuring a delightful evening. Additionally, the lemon coconut chicken presented a symphony of flavors that truly delighted my taste buds. Overall, it was a truly memorable dining experience that exceeded my expectations.

I've eaten here several times and enjoyed and had a great meal every time. The curries are tasty, the service is prompt and the prices are reasonable. The flavoured nan's are interesting if not exactly authentic. Basil and feta nan, or roast pumpkin are not exactly "Indian" flavours, but they sure taste good! Do yourself a favour and eat here. You won't regret it.

Food amazing as usual, and great atmosphere. Only grudge my hubby had was that it felt like they short-poured his beer. Even when we pointed this out, they indicated the line on the edge of the glass but that was where the foam reached to was a goamy beer). I checked the law on that, and since technically it does count towards alcohol content they are within their rights to include foam as part of legal pour. But when goam dissipated was definitely below the pour line. However, to keep customers happy, I think I would have topped it up that tiny bit to the Plimsoll line and recommended another less foamy beer next time. Didn't matter to me but set hubby off-side which then went on to impact his view of meal.

Second time to this hidden treasure, and the food was just as awesome as the first :D Being vegetarian, I have been to a lot of Indian restaurants (they generally have a large range of vego options) and I have to say that Bombay on the Beach is the best I've been to, anywhere. Nice atmosphere, lovely people, and really amazing vegetarian food! I highly recommend them. They really helped a visit to Tassie be even more memorable, and will be on the go-to list for any future trips :)

This local restaurant is seriously underrated. I'm from the Caribbean and ordered their grilled goat. It was Incredible! There are so many ways one can go wrong with goat and this dish was spot on. I also ordered take away, on another occasion during my short stay in the area and the flavors were spot on. I noticed the fresh veggies and herbs decorating the prep area when I walked in and was handled with courtesy and respect when I interacted with the take away person. I must say, if you are visiting the area of a local, this restaurant is seriously underrated.

We called around 7:50 to book an appointment for 8:30 and was informed that they are open till 10 and no appointments are being made right now and a walk in would be better. Since we knew they are open till 10, we decided to go there a little late at 9:10 but were treated coldly. The issue was raised to the owner who had a really cold and non professional behaviour. I tried to calmly ask the owner if anything could be done but the owner had a sarcastic tone and let go by them. We have been their regular customer because of the taste and ambience but incredibly dissapointed with how they handle their customers every time one way or the other but this time was really bad.
Exceptional Indian dining experience with top-notch customer service at bomabya on the beach. The flavors were a symphony, and the staff's attentiveness elevated the meal to perfection. Highly recommend for a culinary journey with impeccable service ☺️

Good to find this hotspot with halal meat options (minus the liquor bar) in Delicious dum biryani that was served in style. Glad I ordered mild as it was still spicy. Plenty for 2. Well worth the drive to Blackman's Bay on our way back from Bruny Island. Gulab jamun was too hot and had to wait to enjoy. Didn't like the lime/ mint / cucumber juice too much green colouring and the syrup was too sweety and not much sour However the wait was far too long. It was nearly a full house, so reccomend to reserve a table.

Went there to celebrate my wife’s birthday and mate...it was disappointing. 1 person running the whole show on the floor on a Sunday evening. I really felt for patrons waiting forever to order their meal. Ordered chicken Tikka for entree and it was no-where close to the actual dish. Mains were good however, 2 different chicken dishes tasted very similar. Most of us brought BYO wine for birthday toast which costed $10 corkage per bottle, basically per person (and staff didn’t even bother to tell us about the corkage). I had high expectations, but disappointment was right there. I’ll definitely give another go but not anytime soon
Had a superb lunch here today with 4 friends. We all had a Vegetable Korma each for our entree. Then we shared a Fish and Scallop Curry, Slow Cooked Lamb Korma, Butter Chicken, Beef Rogan Josh, Steamed Rice and Cheese and Garlic Naan. The wine list is great. Lots of Tassie wines. Two of us finished up with an Espresso Martini. Great value. The service was excellent. Highly recommend.

We just visited Bombay by the Beach right now (12:15pm). We were directed to a table for 2 and given menus. A server then approached us to let us know that there was no food available until 1pm as “the chef only comes in then”. When asked what we could consume at the current time, we were told we could consume drinks. We left very confused, as the place is meant to be open from 9:30am onwards in the morning. Pity, as we were looking forward to having lunch and had travelled from the other end of the city. Maybe revise your timings on your website?

Food is great overall however the 3 stars is a reflection of their entrees. I ordered a serve of the 'Mirchi Pakora' which is a deep fried chilli. For $10 I got just two pieces! I've ordered this item at many many indian restaurants all over the world and almost everywhere for this price, it's 5-6 pieces for this price. The menu says nothing about how many pieces you get which is a huge red flag. Outside of this, all the curries and breads were really good. They just need to up their entree game.

A great Indian restaurant in Tassie! As vegetarians with dietary requirements, I love visiting restaurants that can cater to no garlic in their dishes. We ordered the masala dosa, veggie curry and aloo baigan. The dosa was delicious, had a crisp outside and flavourful filling. The curries were also great, they did put a little bit too much onion for my liking but I'm sure they could have fixed that if I had requested for it. If you're after an Indian restaurant that can cater to dietary requirements I would recommend this place. Staff were also very friendly.

This was a bit of a mixed bag. We had to pay for the meal before eating which I thought was odd for a restaurant, except McDonald's of course. The meals took a long time and when they finally arrived mine had absolutely no flavour which is new territory for an Indian restaurant. Lamb was cooked beautifully but no flavour whatsoever. The beer wasnt cold either and was expensive for the size. Probably won't return but good to try it out.

We visited the resto based on pics of menu available online only to realize it was entirely different both in terms of price and variety of dishes veing offered at the venue. While the plating and presentation were nice it does not compensate for the over-priced dishes based on portion size esp for entrees. Assuming the establishement is trying to position itself as a fine dining ...it doesn't do any justice to either the quality or the quantity of dishes served.... Do not recommend it to anyone visiting Tassie looking for great Indian food.

Do not visit, horrible, ordered some lamb kebabs for $17 each and got two tiny 'wraps' if you will, literally smaller than McDonald's snack wraps. When I went back in to ask if this was right, the server emotionlessly said "yes" and I confirmed the price. Utterly disappointed. The chips my mates got were also undercooked and the lamb was burnt. I just finish my dinner there, And I have to say that normally I don’t really like Indian food, I just came because my friend loves it but I have to say the food was incredible, the waitress was lovely with us, really attentive. In general everything was perfect. I don’t live here but if did I would be a regular.

The food was super spicy, I have asked no spicy, I totally understand that in an Indian restaurant I will have mild spicy food, but after my experience there, I will never come back again. The waitress asked me how spiced I wanted and I said no spicy at all, but my meal came super spicy, ridiculous.... I didn't eat and I had to order food from another restaurant. unbelievable

This was definitely a Wow experience. The menu can be overwhelming at first, but be patient. There is a good selection of vegetarian options, like the earthy lentils and silky eggplant dishes we decided on. With the usual naan, rice and chutneys, there was more than enough to satisfy the two of us. The service was professional and friendly. We paid $80 which we thought was excellent value.

Huge variety of options!
1. Restaurant was almost full, they accomodated us without booking in under 15 min 2. Portion size was very small not proportional to the price at all 3. Veg food esp paneer looked uncooked, the masala in the mushroom curry was spicy though we ordered medium spicy 4. Staff was a bit rude. Owner was also not open to food reviews. We were visiting from Melbourne. Overall do not recommend this place unless you do not find anything else
Ordered fish and chips and spring rolls for lunch. Very dissapointing spring rolls were burnt and oil hadn't been changed so fish was oily and had a strong fishy smell and taste. Chips were average. Also got 2 biscuits wich were stale and tasted like fish and chips so had absorbed the fish shop odours.$ 45 later .very underwhelming.

Travelling from interstate and decided to do take away, vegetable Samoa's were particularly good, and curries were good. Naan breads were oily and cold, but the killer was the price $165.00 for 3 curries and rice for four people, public holiday surcharges, but even so this will be our most expensive away ever! Jack Loves Red next door was much better food and price, so the lesson is eat in!

Food is really good. I tried the Chicken pakora and Biriyani. Both were really good. I have to stress about the goat Biriyani which was even better. Meat was cooked well and the marinade was really amazing. Service is great, friendly staff, and great enjoyable environment. Highly recommend when it comes to a descent Biriyani. It was a bit pricey hence the 4 stars but worth the try.

The most delicious Indian I have ever had. We flew in late and they happily gave us a table even though the kitchen was close to closing. Service was super friendly and professional, atmosphere was warm and buzzing with satisfied customers. Wish we could stay longer so we could dine again. Will be at the top of our list next time we visit Tasmania.

Firstly, I appreciate for making me second tea as first one was bad and that’s why I added one star. But still the taste wasn’t like I expected a proper Indian tea flavour as it is a typical Indian restaurant. Overall, we had a good experience, lovely customer service. Foods were good but, I think it was little bit pricey especially for chat and tea.

Yesterday we ordered one paneer dosa and one prawn biriyani… the Dosa tasted horrible as it was burnt completely and I don’t know why they have gave that burnt dosa to us. Also, Prawn Biriyani was not tasty and prawns were just like rubber, can’t even chew it…..Over priced and low quality…. So horrible food.. spoiled our day… won’t recommend.

It was a big day for us today which was spoiled by "BOMBAY ON THE BEACH". Firstly they overcharged for the food, secondly the service was 1/10 but in argument 10/10. i wouldn't recommend this place to anyone for big parties and achievements as they are more focused on what they said not what the customer said.

Been to this place last night. We ordered simple food all vegetarian. To my surprise we ordered usual spice levels as we are quite used to having not so spicy food despite we request for it. Their spice levels were vere level. Many Indian restaurants should catch up with good aesthetic and Bombay on beach is surely sets an example for it. Good food, good flavours and good people
Just had lunch at Bombay on the beach! My friends both had the burger & chips and the grilled battered chicken nuggets which were enormous and superb, one of the best chicken I had before. The most succulent beautifully fresh cooked chips I had in ages. We also had Fish tikka with tandoor bread cover on it was something creative. You can't go wrong here and very friendly!
Best Indian restaurant in Tasmania. Went with family has a great time will be back for sure. Really good staff and service. Bombay butter chicken is die for, yum yum.

"Serving The Best Desserts In Tasmania" I had a most enjoyable evening at Bombay on the beach. The chocolate mud cake was delicious, served with chocolate ice cream, and obviously carefully prepared. The waiting staff were efficient and knowledgeable. Prices were reasonable for the quality of the food. We would love to return.
Order made one hour before, arrived on time to collect and had to wait 15 minutes more until ready. Since the food was hot asked a bag, they told me a bag is $0.20 cannot provide a free bag.

Been there on last Sunday. Tried keema naan, goat curry, paneer tikka, chicken pakora, lamb kebab. Keema naan is a really good one which is exceptional. Presentation of the plating is really beautiful. Get some extra time in your hand because they will make the fresh one when you will place the order.

Travelling first time to Hobart and 2 of our friends suggested this restaurant as not to be missed and that we would not be disappointed. The food was simply amazing and were not disappointed at all. The service team was really nice , smiling all the time and were prompt to suggest a few things to us. A night to remember.

A very good find while on the way to hobart from Bruny Island. We requested for spicy food and they made it absolutely indian style spicy. Wonderful host and nice staff. Everything was well prepared and their special bombay beach dal was outstanding. Consideration to improve might be the quantity of starters.
Food is fantastic, they often get the order wrong but once you’re eating it, all is forgiven! Great location at the beach.

Too much costly, still they are not serving enough chutney for dosa. Please don't call that dosa too much oil the dosa batter is not smooth enough. Sambar getting bad Smell. Dosa is too much crispy and oily. Waste of our time to visit this restaurant. Too much far from city.

I have ordered three times here. The first time was good, the second time I ordered the butter chicken and it was undercooked and I got food poisoning as result. I thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt and try a vegetable dish
We thoroughly enjoyed our beautiful meal. Greeted as if we were family and throughout our dining experience treated as such. Nothing was a chore for the staff and i simply can't find anything wrong with this wonderful establishment. Always
Not a great experience. The ambiance is very welcoming and charming. Amazing wines, food and service. The food presentation is great. However, the food was very spicy although we specifically mentioned the spice level as “mild to medium”.
Third time to this Authentic Indian restaurant since were in Tasmania and each time just gets better, if that is at all possible. We had ordered grilled panner and it was truly amazing. The panner was perfectly cooked and was too soft to
Cosy restaurant with the best butter chicken we've ever had. We opted for the Indian butter chicken and garlic naan. However after trying the kale, garlic and cheese naan we need to go back for a full one next time, it was so good!
