Bruce Lee is buried in Lake View Cemetery next to his son Brandon, who died in 1993. Next to Volunteer Park in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood lies a spot that’s visited by 10,000 people every year. Through the gates of Lake View Cemetery and halfway up a hill with clear views of Lake Washington, the space is shielded by evergreen shrubs. This is where Bruce Lee, legendary Chinese American martial artist and film star, was laid to rest in 1973. His grave is not only a Seattle tourist attraction but a national and global pilgrimage site. Lee was 32 years old when he died from a brain swelling caused by an allergic reaction to painkillers. But in many ways he lives on still. Since his death, visitors have come to his grave, alone and in tour groups. So many people visit, said cemetery manager George Nemeth Jr., that shrubs were planted around the grave to prevent visitors from trampling on the other graves in the cemetery. Even on cloudy days, the grave is rarely without a visitor. People coming to pay their respects blanket the graves of Lee and his son, Brandon Bruce Lee, who is buried next to him, with offerings: figurines, crystals, candles, flowers, oranges, notes, money from around the world. A 2014 exhibit at the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience, titled Do You Know Bruce?, displays some of the items. Dog tags, shirts, drawings, heartfelt letters and a first-place medal from the New Jersey Martial Arts Academy are displayed just inside the entrance to the exhibit. There’s even a pair of nunchaku, made famous by Lee, who deployed them with brutal precision in his movies.

I came early to Seattle in 2017, stopping by Jimi Hendrix's Memorial on the way in to town before parking at Pikes Place. I got breakfast and browsed my map while I ate. I saw that Bruce and Brandon Lee's grave sites were in Seattle, and made up my mind to visit. I walked from Pikes Place uptown to where they were buried, taking in the sites along the way and wondering what I would find up there. Bruce opened so many doors for actors that followed him. He brought martial arts into the mainstream, while also working hard to pave the way to success that many actors such as Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Donnie Yen and many others would both build upon and use after him. Brandon, I only saw remember from his performance in The Crow, and he had so much potential. Many thoughts like this went through my head as I approached the cemetery. Their grave can be seen from the entrance, and when I looked up the hill where they rest, I could see that though they were both gone, they will never be forgotten. There were at least two or three other small groups of people that were visiting the graves, and paying their respects as well. I took a moment and joined them, and then moved on my way.

were on a weekday, there was absolutely no queue, very crocheted cemetery, beautiful monuments and magnificent oastenia. at the entrance there is a beautiful panorama to the north-west side, you can see the mountains and the beautiful blue sky. Bruce's grave and Brandon Lee are well groomed, there is a shop near the tombstone, my friend and I have eaten the sandwiches brought with us on the bench. Also there are money of different denominations, what for them there put, to us and did not become clear, strange people, what for to put money ?! what do they want to show this? better buy flowers on them, will be more correct and beautiful. definitely recommend to visit, pay attention to the Opening Hours, you will not be able to meet the sunset there. Bruce Lee is a great actor who deserves a tribute of memory from all who are now alive, and how either he met his creativity and art and sport.

Visiting Bruce lee's gravesite has been on my bucket list ever since I've been following him. He was the main influence during my years of martial arts practice. We were visiting friends in Seattle so we had to stop. The site was easy to find on Google and surprisingly not a lot of people were there. Maybe about 4 before our arrival but about 10 to 15 after we left. The only downside to the visit was what people left behind. There were some plastic bottles and some other items I'm not sure what the significance is. While looking up different facts on Bruce Lee I noticed that John Saxon who was in Enter the dragon was buried not too far away either. Didn't have the time to look that one up but would have liked to. Thank you for all your wisdom Bruce!

Most importantly this is a cemetery, so please be respectful. When reaching this area you will most likely see a line of people also waiting to see this gravsite. Bring water to hydrate and be patient. If you use Google Maps to get here, the entrance is on the east side. On foot, Google Maps will have you walk across Volunteer Park, but the cemetery is surrounded by a fence. It was exciting and very sad to be here. Although Bruce Lee was before my time, I grew up watching Brandon Lee on the screen and it's never too late to learn who these men were and how they continue to inspire people everywhere. The graves were surrounded by not only beautiful flowers, but beautiful people / fans. The life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living.

We visited on the 20th and we were feeling this awesome vibe before during and after the visit. Wasn't paying attention at the time as I answered questions from my son but then it kicked in. it was the exact date that Bruce Lee had died. The grave site is immaculate and well taken care of. Many people taking pics and talking about the legend and his son. A bench was donated by his wife Linda and daughter Sharon. I myself am a wing chun practitioner and started recalling the stories Grandmaster William Chung's told us about them being chased out of Hong Kong due to fighting and coming to the United States to get away and start a new life. Great day for a visit and an item taken off my bucket list!! Watch for the crow that stays near Brandon's grave site, got goosebumps when it would caw at us...

This is a pretty cemetery in a pretty part of Seattle. Volunteer Park is a nice big park, and it's nice to see so many people out enjoying the park. Yes, on any given day, you will see groups of Asians (and others!) coming to this particular grave to pay respects, take photos, etc.The cemetery holds the long history of the area: you will see a lot of Scandinavians, there is a Chinese section, and there is also a Japanese section that includes impressive monuments to 2nd and 3rd generation Japanese immigrants who served and died to protect this nation in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. You can also see the small marker for the founders of the Nordstrom's retail empire (from northern Sweden).

  • J R

The cemetery where the gravesite is is fenced in and closes kind of early, so make sure you double check the time and your directions before you go. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon via bus and walked towards the middle of the cemetery. The graves themselves are in their own fenced in area. We had a bit of a wait while the group in front of us finished up and then we had a few moments alone to pay our respects before another group of people approached. It was peaceful and the graves themselves were very well taken care of.

A beautiful cemetery, with the well-tended graves of Bruce & Brandon Lee open to the public. This is an accessible space, with a paved walk all the way from the road to the viewing space. The approach to the graves and viewing spot is not too large, perfect for a small family or group to have just enough space to stand and pay respects. After you visit these graves, it’s worthwhile to drive around and see the rest of the cemetery, which is quite beautiful and peaceful.

I took an Uber to the cemetery and my driver had no idea where to drop me off, so he let me out at the entrance. There’s no signage to locate the grave, so I just walked the bath until I could find it based on other reviewer’s photos. It’s on a hill further into the cemetery; probably easier to veer left at the fork, follow the road around the bend toward the right make a horseshoe turn, then look for the metal hand rails around three headstones.

Glad we got a chance to visit their graves. There were a few people there at that time. It is a big cemetery overlooking the lake Washington. We went there using an uber and had to ask the direction from a gardener as there is no signage or any direction closer to the entrance or anywhere else. You just need to find it or ask someone. No tickets to go there. Their graves are in the cemetery and no need to pay to go in.

The earth around them is worn down, loved and visited often. We were there for only a couple minutes before others came by. Do not stay too long, pay your respects and move on to give others a chance to mourn. It is a very emotional place where you can feel the love they had around them and still do. They are surrounded by gorgeous sprawling grounds, among hundreds of years of history with the earth growing around many stones. The grounds are worth visiting all by themselves if you have the time.

I went in August 2022, it was a perfect day and sunny. It is a beautiful and peaceful cemetery and appears well maintained. Hours posted say until 8PM but Google mentions differently, so not sure which is accurate. It was nice to pay respects and that there is a ramp entrance so people can allow others to have privacy as they pay their respects.

Really cool experience and stellar view of the East Bay. However when I went the site was gated, and I think it will be for the foreseeable. Also don't try and park in the cemetery park on the streets outside. Cemetery roads are crazy narrow and since it's so popular there, on a regular day parking would be impossible and have a chill time. I had a problem with this and it was a pandemic/no crowds. But overall amazing experience. Go to this place when in Seattle.

  • J Procick

Didn't think I would ever review a grave, but here we are. If you have to be buried, not a bad resting place to be at. Such a cool memorial to a father/son duo. There is a little bench to sit on, and you may have to wait a moment to take a photo of the grave. Panoramic views of Lake Washington and Cascades in the distance.

Special trip with my teenage son to see Bruce and Brandon Lee graves. It was really easy to get to the cemetery on public transportation. Graves are up a hill with a small bench beside them. There were no other visitors when we went. It was little emotional for me. I grew up watching Bruce Lee and seeing the grave touched me. Great moment I shared with my son. We walked around the cemetery before we left. It is very well kept.

I am glad I was able to visit and have a tremendous amount of respect and feel humbled. Martial arts has always been a part of my life and Bruce and Brandon meant the world to me growing up. It was not crowded, everyone was respectful and lake view cemetery is beautiful.

I've visited on a week and cloudy day , so it was not a single person or waiting line to get to them , I'm so happy to be able to get to see them after being born in a city located on 5000 miles from them , considering that I used to practice Kung fu for 15 years in my youth. Thanks Master Lee for your influence on me to lead a clean and healthy lifestyle during my lifetime.

Located halfway up a hill with views of Lake WA. I read that Lee died from an allergic reaction to painkillers which caused his brain to swell. Sad! His grave is of course a tourist attraction. People come for many reasons. Some come to see a famous grave, some have a martial arts connection, and others just stumble upon it at the cemetery. Whatever reason, please be respectful!

  • Darren Goodsell

Got to see place. Can’t quite call it an attraction out of respect for the Lee’s. There were a couple of guys sat there playing music which I thought was disrespectful. Possible to drive right up to it but road is very narrow as you get to the top of the hill.

The grave is located in the middle of the cemetery area. For first timer, it might be hard to locate. Just find an area with some cars parked, most likely it’s their grave area. In front of their grave, there is this bench with her wife and daughter’s name carved on it. Kinda sad though, thinking how they feel everytime they visit the grave and sitting there. @chezabelll

Finally! Can finally cross this off my bucket list. These two have been two of my biggest inspirations. It was nice to finally see them. The grave yard in general was cool looking yard. We saw a lot of tombstones that had Chinese writing on it. We plan to visit them again and bring them something nice :)

First of all I must mention that the only entrance to the grave yard is from 15th Avenue. Since Google Maps directed me an entrance from Howe Street I tried that entrance once but It was closed. It was a very special visit for me because I used to watch all Bruce Lee films. I sat in front of them for a while thinking of the good memories I had with them.

  • Jaclyn Barrientes

How can you really rate a graveside? If you're a Bruce Lee fan, you have to come and pay your respects. It's a quiet cemetery, up in Lake View and away from anything loud or touristy. Flowers were left by many, and there is a bench in front where you can sit and reflect on the tombstones of this phenomenal person and his son, both dead far too soon.

  • Sudheesh U

What can I say about this place? I have lived here in Washington for 40 plus years and have heard that Bruce and Brandon were buried here. It's more breathtaking than words can describe. Even if you know very little about the Lee's still go. It's a very beautiful well kept cemetery. And just be aware. On very nice days there will be a line.

  • Lavon Clark

I couldn’t visit Seattle without seeing the greatest. It is just a little short ride to get to his resting place. I have always been a fan of Bruce Lee and cherished the legend as a kid. Had his poster on my wall! It is a peaceful place on the top of a hill and has a beautiful view. It is great to just chill with the legend on a nice day.

  • m0nk3ynutZ

Just make your way up the hill and pay respects to the . Fifty years since he passed and still over 10000 visitors a year. Every action/superhero movie since 1973 has been influenced by him. Very sad final resting place as he is buried with his son who was tragically killed at age 28. Bruce's mother in law is buried there as well.

  • Alan Gates

Ok so I teach martial Arts. It's a beautiful summer day and one of my students surprises me with this stop. I'm having a moment, when the Blue Angels fly over low and loud. Bruce Lee is an icon but maybe his grave should be less touristy. Someone asked if anyone else famous was buried here, I pointed out Wolverine's grave nearby.

  • A A

Very nice cemetery. While exploring discovery park I saw that Bruce Lee was buried at this cemetery. Having grown up watching his movies of course I had to stop by. No idea his connection as to why he was buried in Seattle but the area was well cared for. There were flowers and it definitely brought back childhood memories.

  • bob zera

Be advised that there's not much room to park. There's a circle at the top of the cemetery within short walking distance of the graves and that is much easier to access. Some of the roads are only wide enough for one car, so you have to watch that somebody else is not using the same road.

Nice graves with quotes on each gravestone. Bruce Lee's stone has a picture of him. There were a few other people there. There is some street parking by playground next to it (or can take bus). Unfortunately there aren't many entrances to the cemetery itself. Overall Google Maps helped us know where exactly to go.

  • Emily

Go in the main gate, up the hill and to the little 'side road' on the right. You'll see the fence. A very beautiful gravesite and I'm glad we stopped by to pay our respects to some of the greats!

I have put off for years coming here. I will say I am glad I did. I hate rating a grave site so please forgive the crassness of it. It is a moving experience. It is odd to see Brandon’s grave being he is only a couple of years older than I. With that being said live life. Live it well.

  • Paisha Lusk

I had no idea this was a tourist attraction or even in Seattle until I saw it on Google maps. Easy to find and well kept. Although it is roped off for busy times, you are still able to get close enough to the headstones. People pay respect by leaving money, flowers and other tokens.

It was amazing stumbling onto the place, me and a buddy just wanted to visit a cemetery to see if we can find 1940 to 1950 Graves but found that Bruce and Brandon Lee are buried here. It was an honor to read the engraving on the grave and truly a devastation they had died so young.

Very subtle and simple! Was expecting a fancy or grand grave but this was just perfect. Father and son placed right next to each other, what a beautiful memorial!

Beautiful and serene cemetery. The sites are well maintained and still get frequent visitors. As a fan of martial arts, this was a must on my Seattle adventure.

I took my son here for his first time and he kept saying how cool it was.

Such a nice, peaceful cemetery If you are into Seattle history. The old that formed the city are buried here. And don't forget Bruce and Brandon Lee. …

Finally got to visit. It is an active cemetery and not some normal tourist spot, so it's unfortunate to see some people not respect that.

This site has a steady stream of fans paying a silent tribute to Father and Son Lee. If your on capital hill this is a must see!

Modest memorial to both Bruce and Brandon. Its easy to overlook their's plots due to the bushes used to seclude the location.

Emotional place but some people don't have any respect next to the tomb. They act like if they are in the supermarket! More

Be ready that there are a few visitors at any day and time. Parking nearby might be tricky because of the narrow road. More
