During my Annapurna circuit trek I sufferd form a Appendicitis. I was lucky to find CIWEC Hospital online. After 12 hours I finally reached the hospital. It was the most painful endurange I have ever encoutered in my life. At the hospital the docter's and the nurses where most patient and very comforting. After surgery I stayed for 6 days, and under the circumstances I could not have whished for a better place to recover. I am a solo traveller, I got lucky!!!! Dear Traveller's solo or in a group; make sure you have the CIWEC hospital number or website stored in your phone. I was lucky to survive, I was really lucky. Please don't depent on luck. When you are travelling, hiking or just hanging out in the Pokhara region make sure you are known with CIWEC, they safed my life. Being a solo traveller means when you get into a normal Nepali hospital there is nobody to care for you, or get you anything!! You will be in a lot of trouble, next to the reason you are there. CIWEC Hospital does take and give you the care you need. CIWEC Hospital is known by many insurance company's in Europe, that's also very important. I'm a professional writer, yet it's difficult for me to express how deeply grateful I am for the people and care I received at CIWEC Pokhara. I came in with a very serious gastrointestinal infection and a grave fear and sense of foreboding uncertainty. But from the first consultation, I was put at ease by the professionalism, consideration, skill, and commitment all the staff demonstrate in their work. Without their expertise, I literally could have died. I'm so glad I went to CIWEC rather than a larger hospital. At CIWEC I received very personalized care from doctors and nurses who made my healing their personal responsibility, and I received very hands-on attention I could not have received at a larger facility. All the staff turned a very frightening experience into something I could manage, both physically and psychologically. 3 days later, I'm on the mend and don't see how I could have successfully gotten to this healthy state without CIWEC Pokhara.
Dear sick people in Pokhara: if you need to seek medical treatment, I highly recommend CIWEC. 24 hours/7 days care. Of my two experiences, I was once an outpatient and once admitted to the hospital, and the doctors and nurses took great care of me both times. The doctors are general practitioners who also have connections to specialists who come to the hospital for consultation. Under the same roof, the clinic has the capacity for lab work, general treatment, and IV. The clinic provides written explanation of the expenses and they do such a thorough job that my insurance had no further questions once I submitted my claim. The facility is clean and airconditioned; the hospital room has an attached bathroom. In case you have to stay overnight, the clinic provides PJs, all the basic toiletries, and even food (you can order from a menu). All the doctors and nurses are caring, professional, and kind. Thank you, CIWEC crew, for your excellent care!
Review of traveler from the USA: The doctors and nurses were wonderful and very attentive. I was seen extremely quickly and all procedures and tests were done extremely quickly. I spent the night in the hospital with an IV, and had nurses check on me many times. The room had a western type electric medical bed, an in room bathroom with toilet and shower, a tv with cable, and WiFi. I felt I received far more attention and care then I would have in a US hospital and the total bill was probably equivalent to most 10% copays in the US. The office staff provided all of the paperwork digitally so that I can submit for reimbursement when I get back home. Some of the equipment and the overall construction might look antiquated compared to modern US hospital standards, however the attention and care that I received from the doctors and nurses was much better than I would expect at most hospitals in the US.
My partner got food poising while trekking but he was too weak to descend to get to the hospital. I received a recommendation to contact CIWEK hospital by an acquaintance at the American Embassy. He told me that this was the best place to seek medical attention. When I called, the staff was extremely helpful. They told me exactly what to do and texted and called me while we were stuck on the mountain to make sure my partner was ok and to support me. Extraordinary! When we were finally able to get to the hospital my partner was immediately admitted, all tests performed , and he received excellent care from Dr. Abhishek and his team. Everyone was professional and kind. My partner spent the night and was discharged with specific instructions for follow-up. If you do get sick in Nepal, I highly recommend this facility.
Fantastic clinic and hospital in Pokhara that is extremely friendly, knowledgeable, clean, and supportive! I am a doctor from Canada myself, and I have to say I'm extremely impressed with this clinic/hospital! The staff - from doctors, to nurses, to insurance workers were helpful and kind, I feel lucky to have been treated here! I unfortunately became ill after doing Annapurna Base Camp and they responded to my healthcare needs to quick, safe, and effective fashion. My doctor, Dr. Santosh Adhikari was kind, knowledgeable, polite, and caring, exactly what you want from a doctor. I highly recommend this hospital if in an emergency or any other healthcare need! I had travel insurance and their team was able to communicate effectively with them to get my hospital stay covered too. Thank you again!
I was travelling in Nepal and was in Pokhara when I had 5 days of fever without any obvious cause, and I came to CIWEC to see a doctor. They diagnosed me with Dengue fever (with blood tests) and I had to be admitted for a few days in view of my low platelet count. I am also a doctor and I can vouch for the professionalism and knowledge of the doctors who saw me everyday at CIWEC. The nurses where also very kind and pleasant. The room was clean and pleasant, and bathroom was also clean and had good hot water. Bed was comfortable. Hospital administration was easy to deal when arranging for them to be paid directly by my traval insurance. I would definitely recommend this hospital to any tourist who is seeking medical care in Pokhara.
Post trekking in Annapurna I felt a terrible pain in my stomach. A friend of mine, and my trip leader, brought me to CIWEC, after explaining that this was the best clinic in town. I was shortly after diagnosed, and brought into the operating room. The wonderful staff at the CIWEC Clinic in Pokhara helped me heal through acute appendicitis treatment. I spent just under three weeks in the hospital, where I was expertly cared for, with highly professional standards. The fleet of nurses working there are genuinely lovely people, and Dr. Shresthe and Dr. Gupta are excellent general practitioners. The whole place is extremely friendly and they turned an unfortunate series of events into a fondly remembered chapter of my life.
I’m not one to normally write long reviews, this definitely deserves 5 stars. I got sick with a stomach infection while in Pokhara that progressively got worse, and I was nervous about going to the hospital but this was absolutely the right decision. This hospital was right in the main area and super clean with really good healthy practices (also to give you some back drop, I am from the US and both my parents are in the medical field). I had an IV and blood testing and needed antibiotics. Everyone was really helpful and spoke English so everything was communicated really well, overall the price wasn’t bad and I feel very lucky I found this place because I was traveling alone and everyone went above and beyond.
In November 2022 I planned to do a hike in the Annapurna range, but instead came down with a nasty and steadily worsening case of bronchitis. I was admitted to CIWEC hospital overnight. The doctors and especially the nurses were incredibly kind, thorough, and attentive. The hospital was clean, comfortable, and the food was tasty. About a week after being discharged from the hospital, I was able to hike Mardi Himal with no issues! I do recommend getting travel health insurance however, because an overnight stay in the in-patient ward can be quite pricey if you don't have insurance–but I'm still so grateful to CIWEC for taking good care of me during a time of great discomfort and uncertainty.
Outstanding care at this hospital. Dr. Ashistak Shrestha was amazing. He is so good at explaining, calming and making you better. Came into the hospital with what looked like a stroke, was bell's palsy. High blood pressure issue as well, 170/100, spent time in a room getting it lowered. Got lots of medications to counter two issues. Had an MRI and blood work to rule out any other issues. Nurse who took blood from me was the best! I'm so afraid of needles and didn't feel a thing! Cost was not outrageous, coming from a Canadian with free healthcare, this means something. Highly recommend this very local to Lakeside Hospital. PS, both issues are healing quiet well. Total # visits 3.
We were really happy with the care my 16 year old son received at the hospital after he developed pneumonia. We were seen quickly and the investigations were thorough and efficient. All information and findings were shared with us clearly and transparently. Our son needed to be admitted and stayed 4 nights. the nursing care was compassionate and very professional, as was all the medical care. We were consulted fully on all treatment decisions. I was also able to stay at the hospital with my son. Additionally he LOVED the food from the hospital kitchen. what could potentially have been a very frightening experience was in fact an experience of being really well cared for.
I’m a healthcare provider in the U.S. I was in Nepal for trekking and came down with dysentery and became acutely dehydrated. After trying 2 other travel clinics that advertised being open 24 hours but were not, I finally made it to CIWEC, which does provide care 24/7. The doctors and nursing staff were great, the facility was clean and comfortable, and the level of care was up to date and on par with the treatment I would expect from a hospital at home. The cost was reasonable and they provided me with all the documentation I needed for my travelers insurance claim. I strongly recommend this facility if you are in need of medical care in Pokhara.
We recently were requested to attend CIWEC from GMB hospital for equine rabies immunoglobulin injections. Everyone at the hospital was extremely professional, courteous and very attentive. Organisation between individuals was prompt and succinct minimising waiting time. The communication with all parties was perfect as my Nepalese isn't amazing but everyone spoke crystal clear English. The nurses, doctors and reception staff perform an amazing bespoke service which I will definitely revisit should I have health concerns when in Pokhara as a traveler.
A big thank you to the wonderful staff at CIWEC Hospital Pokhara. I am so grateful for your wisdom, kindness and hard work. I was very well looked after by you. I was new to trekking and you clarified for me what was happening to my body and how to make me well. Your nursing staff is excellent. They are smart and hard working and very nice. I am grateful for how quickly you provided all the results. And for taking the time to explain them to me. You were there for me in my time of need. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Many blessings, paul
Very competent doctors working on a very high standard. I definitely can recommend to go there. However, I must strongly criticise the hygienic approach of the nurses, touching door handles with contaminated gloves and touching fresh sterile supplies with dirty gloves. It would be an advantage if they knew how an infusion works and how to remove it correctly. My nurse put the infusion upright and ripped it out, my wrist still hurts. This should be avoided at all costs and the correct procedure should be explained to the nurse once again.
Fantastic service from the team at CIWEC. Was seen almost immediately and quicky diagnosed by Dr. Sandeep. He told me I would need a minor procedure that could be done as soon as I was ready the same day. This was conducted very well and as swiftly and painlessly as possible. Absolutely recommend this hospital for anyone in need of medical attention in Pokhara. Very professional staff and quality facility. Many thanks to Dr. Sandeep, Dr. A Abhishek and the nursing team for all their help. Look no further for medical care in Pokhara 5*
Encountered emergency life treatening symptoms and rushed to consult the doctor at this centre and he was very professional in his examination. Ordered the necessary tests to determine my conditions then prescribed an effective medicine that relieve my symptoms. He also took time to follow up with my conditions the following day. His prognosis of my emergency conditions was assuring with detail follow up to ensure my conditions improved. His caring and concern will be important factor for travellers seeking medical treatment.
Thank you so much CIWEC Hospital for all your amazing care. All of the staff was super friendly and made me feel at home immediately. The reception helped me a lot with my insurance. The doctors and nurses were very professional and kind at the same time. The hospital itself is also very comfortable, professional and green (lots of nice plants). All of this helped me to recover quickly from a lung and gut infection. A big thank you from Joris, a Belgian volunteer (science teacher) at Maya Universe Academy
Like other reviews, the hospital pushes youbtobstaybthe night (1000$) even if it's not necessary. In France you wouldn't have had to stay the night. I got basic test (urine, blood and fecal exam) but they failed to treat me correctly. 2 weeks later, the problem is still here. I was treated for bacteria but in fact I had viruses. They kept pushing my release as they wanted to make sur my insurance would pay. Western Prices but Nepalese standards. Only go if you have no other choice and IF YOU HAVE AN INSURANCE.
Absolute wonderful staff! So extremely friendly and knowledgeable, felt very well taken care of and I was definitely in good hands. This was my first time visiting a hospital outside of the EU and I did not expect this place to up be up to such a high standard in comparison to my hospital at home, but it really was. What’s amazing as well is that they are super efficient as well, and will see you ASAP. I can definitely recommend this place to any westerner who needs to seek medical attention while in Pokhara.
I had an accident and had to get medical attention twice because of a knee effusion. I had an x-ray done on the spot and 2 arthrocentesis done without any problems. The whole team was very professional and attentive, their english was excellent too. They even treated me with a nice masala tea while I waited. Special thanks to Dr. Abishek Shrestha, nurse Aabha, and Dr Sandeep Gupta for their help. Being a fellow physician, I definitely recommend anyone who's in need of medical attention to come here.
Dr Sandee Gupta cared for me when I took a fall hiking in the Himalayas. He was very professional and showed great concern and interest. I appreciated his follow through as he reached out to me internationally via WhatsApp a week later. The hospital was clean, well organized, the staff all spoke very good English and were extremely friendly and helpful. When I returned to the United States, all of the orthopedic doctors commented how well the cast and treatment was that I received in Pohkara.
I‘ve had a very good experience with the Ciwec hospital in Pokhara. I went there because I had fever and got tested for Dengue fever right away. After the positive test I got admitted into the hospital. The doctors and nurses took very good care of me and the nurses came regularly to measure my vital parameters and to give me the suitable medication. Also the rooms in the hospital were clean and the nurses always disinfected the medical instruments before using them.
It was a pleasure for me to stay over there for two nights in total. Big recommendations for this traveller hospital! Both of the doctors are very friendly, helping you with everything and would really like to make you smiling. Also the nurses and services were very good. I enjoyed to have deep conversations because I was alone there. Very good food to choose and everything is clean and comfortable. You can also sit outside in the little garden.
The Pokhara team at CIWEC couldn't have been more helpful after a leech bite got infected, spreading to a lymph node. They ran tests the evening I visited (the blood test guy even came back to the hospital from home so we could get results that night) and the doctor got me on the right course of antibiotics. Very professional, fast and reassuring walk-in service. Recommend to anyone in Nepal who needs to be sure of getting a good service.
I am now back home in Norway safe and sound, and want to give CIWEC Pokhara a warm thank you and recommend their services by writing this review. For me as a foreign student in Pokhara far away from home, CIWEC gave me the safety and help I needed when I got sick and had to spend some days hospitalized. The staff are friendly, helpful, professional, caring, and I am thankful they were there. I highly recommend them and CIWEC Hospital
An expat, resident in Pokhara, I spent 10 days at the CIWEC hospital whilst recovering from a motorcycle accident. The doctors and staff could not have been better, they really did provide a sterling service. In addition they managed to link the insurance provider and the orthopaedic consultant seamlessly into the arrangements. A job well done, with professionalism and a smile. Thank you!
I hope you don’t need to, but if you need to come to a medical clinic hospital in Lakeside, Pokhara, I highly recommend CIWEC. Two of my trekking party spent 1-2 days here due to dysentery issues. The Doctor, nurses and staff were excellent; the facilty was very nice, clean and welcoming. Reasonable prices and they will help with paperwork for your insurance back home. Thank you CIWEC!!
My dad had to come into this hospital yesterday with a broken arm and the staff were amazing. Dr Abhishek looked after him, spoke great English and was so professional. He was seen immediately and we were kept updated during the whole process with what options we had. If you need emergency medical care in Pokhara as a tourist I cannot recommend these guys enough. Thank you so much!
The hospital's secretary, nurse and doctor that welcomed me were very friendly, warm and professional. I came to them with my left ear completely clogged up by ear wax. It was a challenge, but thanks to the doctor's precision and persistence, I was out the door 40 minutes later, feeling reborn and able to leave for the Annapurna trail. Highly recommended!!
My partner was admitted to CIWEC hospital in Pokhara due to corneal abrasion. We received the best help and nicest treatment possible from the staff. They made these rather tough days a lot easier for us. Dr. Sandeep Gupta, with whom we had the most contact, is both very nice and professional. And all the nurses we met are very kind and caring.
I had an infection in my elbow. I didn't know where to go, and then i found Ciwec Hospital. Had a little bit of a hard time communicating with them. I didn't feel comfortable. Also basically the doctor literally pressed me to type a review and was looking at my phone while I did it. It's a decent hospital but not a good experience for me.
Best hospital I've ever been. Very competent, kind doctors and nurses. The same high standard health care as in the Netherlands, but the approach is very personal and caring. Unfortunately you can only stay here if you're in need of medical care ;). The place smells like laundry detergent and it's very clean.
I went there in a visit arranged by my travel insurance so I didn't get a bill. Clinic staff and doctor were very kind. They did a great job dealing with a damaged and infected toenail after trekking for two weeks, and supplied all I will need in the following days. I'd definately recommend this hospital.
Great service by Highly trained doctors. We got the Best service And cooperation with our insurance company worked well. If you need help in Pokara this is the place to ask. Everything From sterile equipment to medicine was at a high level and we felt safe and well treated.
I am a Korean traveling in Nepal Came here because I had a problem while traveling. Contrary to what I was worried about, the very kind and professional treatment and prescription gave me relief And the doctor is very handsome I will remember this place for a long time
I visited the hospital, the reception nurse and Dr Sandip were really nice, they are good and fast, the hospital is really clean and they take care that you get your refund by insurance. The doctor also gave me good advices for the future. You can go both eyes closed !
I had a dengue fever, and arrived to the hospital with fever and weakness. I received dedicated and professional care from the doctors and nurses. I was in a clean and big room, got everything I was needed. In addition, the food was also very good and diversed.
At Ciwec Clinic I have been in very good hands. Professional, quick, friendly.... Just perfect treatment. I came in with fever, bronchitis and went out 3 days later recovered and strengthened. A huge thanks to all amazing Staff working in the hospital!
