Café 't Spui-tje is a very cozy and friendly bar where you'll feel right at home. The owner is a real Sinatra fan, and the décor really shows that; lots of memorabilia such as gold records, posters and autographed items. Besides Sinatra, the Muppets also settled at the café, for instance Statler and Waldorf are hanging above the door. Along with the ambient lighting it makes you feel right at home. The prices are fair; not outrageously high as you might find them at some of the other bars in Amsterdam's city centre. Food is good to very good and consists mostly of the typical pub food such as for instance a deep fried snack platter with cheeses and various sausages or a bun with a juicy meat ball. If you don't like a particular kind of food on the platter, they often are happy to oblige to substitute it with something else, which is useful if you have some vegetarian friends. Don't expect a three course dinner though. They have a variety of liquors, wines and beers in stock, and every second Friday of the month (if memory serves me well) they have a German Beer Night where they open a barrel of some imported German beer and complimentary snacks tend to be provided. Service is excellent. The owner is a warm and friendly guy who knows his business and will soon start to recognise you too if you pop in every now and then. The rest of his staff shares this welcoming attitude.

I had the same issue with snack platter that costs 8,50€ . They calculated it twice, but I was the only one who ate. When I started asking questions why it is like this, waiter showed me that in the menu it says “for 2 ppl and more” . Why then you not put the double price in the menu straightaway? If the price 8,50€ is basically not existing for this dish . I tried to explain this, waiter literally said “WE DON’T CARE” !! This guy should remind himself, what he is there for. Don’t come here, this place is not welcoming.

Authentic bar specialised in rum and wine with skilled and friendly staff It has over 500 different kinds of rum from all over the world and if you like a good glass of affordable quality wine then this is one of the few cafes in Amsterdam with great wines per glass. It also has a delicious and affordable lunch menu and in the evening authentic snacks like Ossenworst, bitterballs and Dutch cheese. It has a such great atmosphere that not only regulars from Amsterdam visit café ‘t Spui-tje but a lot of people from outside of the Netherlands visit café ‘t Spui-tje every time they are in the Netherlands.

So, the waiter was a little rude to us, but when the locals come, he was all the pleasure you can get to them…the food and drinks were good. But the bill is strange.. so the plate was 8,50€ on the menu ant it was like “a plate for two”, but the bill was like double.. 17€. I didn’t get it…usually the price on the menu is the price that you get, it’s not obvious that you need to double it..??? Why??

I went with some international friends to this place on a Saturday night. Who seemed to be the owner of the bar asked us where were we from and we said Spain (though we were a big group of some other nationalities). He started to say bullshit about Spanish people and that the EU shouldn't exist, he was very racist with us even though we spent a lot of money that night in his bar. I was surprised cause half of the people at the bar that night was non Dutch. I really don't recommend this place if you are not Dutch.

Cozy atmosphere but an annoying rude man running the bar. Someone needs to teach him hospitality is about kindness and empathy, not arrogance and upright rudeness. Just a short bit from my encounter there: When I entered and approached the bar tender (and very kindly) to ask if he spoke English, he brought his face closer to me and went "yes, I do, and do you?". I mean what the hell I am even supposed to make out of that? Sarcasm, fine racism or just Dutch arrogance? Have some manners please.

Very hostile staff and it seems like the treatment you get is related to where you are from (even though we also had Dutch people in our group) or what you look like (as some other reviews here stated, there seems to have a little racism underneath the hostility). Also very overpriced (or maybe they just charged us wrongly, but 10 euros per glass of la chouffe seems very wrong). Not sure why we got treated so differently from other clients but anyway, I strongly do not recommend.

sometimes I go here for a glass of beer with cheese sticks, there is not enough space, so it’s not always comfortable when there are a lot of people) in general, I have a good impression)) an elderly waiter, maybe he is the owner of a cafe, may seem grouchy, but it amuses me))) He reminds me of their cat, which does not allow itself to be stroked))

Lovely café in a very good location. The atmosphere is the best, with plants outside, and with an interior full of Sinatra's photos. And also the people working there are very friendly and helpful! Good vibes only. It has my favourite beers (Browerij 't ij) so it's just perfect

Dit is een prettig café waar gastvrijheid nog hoog in het vaandel gehouden wordt. Attent en vriendelijk personeel. Verwacht hier geen "feestcafé" en shotjes wedstrijden of brullende toeristen. Verwacht hier wel respectvol gedrag. De kat "Frankie" houdt onverstoorbaar de boel in de gaten en laat zich niet zomaar aaien. Een neus geven vindt hij prettiger.

Stumbled onto this place out for a walk and it was lovely, great wine selection, the snacks were delicious and the host was fantastic! Highly recommend!!

This place is seriously so cute! Whenever I've been there it was never crowded, nice, chill atmosphere and good service (rare in Holland). We go there because it's so quiet and relaxed even though it's a busy area. The cat is super cute but not very friendly. I had the impression that he doesn't like to be touched :). That's totally fine though

Very cozy restaurant near the Begijnhof area. We chose this restaurant as the others in the vicinity were houseful. But we realized we made a good choice considering the ambience and the tasty food. Defintiely an experienced chef behind the dishes

The atmosphere here is really great. The people behind the bar are always friendly and know how to make your evening even better. The prices are good, especially for this location. This is a bar which is great for us local Amsterdammers as well as tourists as it is not too touristy and truly brings the spirit of Amsterdam across.

Amazing staff! While on a girls trip we realized we were being followed and jump into this place. When I told the person working there he went and guarded the front of the restaurant while the men following us circled the place and then left. Spent the rest of the night there having drinks and getting tips from the owner.

Two stars for the ambience and the service, despite the fact that the owner clearly did not like me. I'm surprised he even agreed to serve me. He was intentionally cold to me but super friendly to other customers. I'm brown skinned and no stranger to this kinda treatment but wasn't expecting it in the middle of Amsterdam.

Stopped in for a drink with my boyfriend and had a very unpleasant experience. Owner/employee was very uptight and unwelcoming, he practically shoved us out of the door when we were just trying to have a relaxing drink. Thought the decor/atmosphere was quirky but it was ruined by the bad experience. Wouldn't go back!

Beetje ouderwetse barman: keurig gekleed in stropdas, vriendelijk, snel, tapt en serveert bier zoals het hoort (niet dood en in een schoon glas). Dat zie je niet vaak meer. Heerlijk genoten op het terras. Helaas bij het weggaan pas binnen gekeken. Wat een leuke kroeg! Kom hier zeker nog eens een biertje halen.

Unfriendly people... I have never been so badly recieved in a place and I still don't know why. Don't disturb the cat or the boss will bite you! Don't disturb the boss or the waiter will bite you! Don't disturb the waiter and go in another friendly bar. There are so many in the lovely Amsterdam.

We stopped by to sit and have a drink and watch the people of Amsterdam walk by. Had a wine and a beer (from the excellent Dutch brewery of Broweurij TJ.. hope I got that right!). Service is of the norm you expect in a big city, I particularly liked the interiors though, had a lot of character.

Excellent by-the-glass wine menu/card. Good appetizers and food. Friendly, refined service from the owner who has owned the place for 29 years. Nice outdoor tables in summer, 30+ years of memorabilia in winter. Say hi to John.

Mint tea was alright, extensive selection of drinks, cozy café. Warm IR lamps for sitting outdoors were available. What could be improved was that the cat lying on a chair bit me and that never happens. Perhaps it had a bad day. It still made the experience a little less pleasant.

Terribly negative service...I was there with my friends from Italy...I'm from Prague and we all live in Amsterdam for a few years.....the waiter who works there has a disastrous approach to guests....we will never visit this place again …

Good drinks and good atmosphere. Jon, the bartender, is full of knowledge about Rum. Highly recommended.

The food was correct. We were 7people. However we shared a plate for 2 people and they made us pay one for 3 people. Moreover they let us make all the calculation to split the bill. I didn’t enjoy it because of these « surprises »

Just a perfect customer service! Cold spring rain was surprising us and we got hot rum cocktails out of list from here. Amazing selection of rums, owner knows everything about them!

Aptly called the Frank Sinatra bar. Amazing decor, friendly service and great tunes to boot. The drink selection is quite extensive, be it scotch, rum, cognac, beer or cocktails.

Clearly open but owner shouted were closed as I went to walk in. Other customers clearly found it amusing. Obviously don't like the English.. Rude and unfriendly... Avoid

Awesome and friendly bar with really a lot of inspiration of Frank Sinatra and friends. Football live on two big screens- outside and inside very nice personal also.

Friendly service and good selection of beers and ciders, they also have selection of snacks available. There is a cat guarding the bar. Did not like to be petted.

RUM Heaven! 625 type of rums, i love this place. If i’m a sailor, a pirate, i would like to enjoy rum here. Also normal people can enjoy beside pirates

I love this place and never miss it for beer and bitterballen when I'm in town. Fantastic, one of a kind atmosphere.

Cool little bar with good music, cute cat, huge rum selection and a toilet that makes airplane bathrooms look big. Worth a visit.
