We stopped in to try the local gin, Jenever. We also ordered a beer and some bitterballen. The bartender, (owner?), told us 20 minutes for the bitterballen. I told them that's fine, more time to drink. A guy comes in to use the bathroom and is asked for a shower or a pee? Meh, I guess he thinks he's funny. 45 minutes later, still no bitterballen. Asked for my bill. Started getting the run around re: bitterballen. "Oh he's a lazy old man, it takes time". "Do you still want them?" Apparently they're hard of hearing. The old clown told me to, and I quote, "Be quiet". Apparently he didn't want everyone else to know how bad the service is. The clown then asks me, "Are you on vacation?" I told him that he told me to be quiet. He looked like he wanted to take a swing at me. That would have been rich! We paid and left. Don't order food, just drinks.

Terrible service and very rude staff, as others reviews mention. Got harassed by the server, who also happened to be the manager. He bumped into my friend while we were walking on the sidewalk in front of the cafe, spilled the beers he was carrying on his tray and proceeded to throw the remains on my face and shirt. The beer got in my eye, leaving it red and itchy all day. When confronted about this, he shouted in dutch and then told us it was our fault. Never did he apologize nor acknowledge he had done any wrong. Even the bartender, who was the only other member of the staff present, refused to act or say anything about the situation. Felt truly disgusted and in shock due to being treated like this while walking on the street. Avoid at all costs!

Terrible service!!! We would love to grab some drinks and food. The barman was so terrible!!! Bad attitude and bad temper!!! Worst of the world!!! Because we don’t oder enough or our drinks and food are too cheap. We were waiting for our drinks and we wanted to order more and he came to us and blamed us that we were sitting here already 30 mins and we didn’t order anything. We are sitting here only 10 mins, sir!!!Are you stupid??? We are ordering a drink and meatballs.. Apparently he wasn’t happy about us. OMG!!! He has to learn sth!!! We arrived with two crying kids, only to use the toilet. The owner was very polite and advised us to take the ladies restroom. We stayed for a few beers and coffee, while the children were running around and exploring this french style coffee place. The owner didnt mind. He was very professional or didnt mind, no complaints at all, not even a bad face. Therefore I have trouble understanding the afore mentioned comments. The service was prompt and quick. Beer recommendations were good. The espresso and the Coffee we had ordered were also delicious. All together a very charming and cosy café!

This is a very Parisian - style cafe, where you come whether the sun is shining or it is raining and leisurely take a seat, read the Sunday paper or the new bought book with your cup of coffee. They serve a very strong Dutch style coffee that is perfect to wake up to. For what you get, the price is very decent and the location is great to watch the people go by. I had a latte that didn't pass the spoon test for foam, but it had a delicious and very strong bitter taste. So take your time with it unless you want to bounce around too much.

Extremely rude owner, immediately after paying the owner told us we could not use a laptop in their cafe and repeatedly interacted with us rudely. A friend sat down with us but did not want to order anything to the owner informed they they had to leave. This was despite the cafe being reasonably empty and our friend taking no extra space as they sat at our table. Extremly rude owner and staff that is not at all justified by the mediocre and expensive food served at this cafe.

Terrible service- avoid at all costs. Owner bumped into me as I walked down the street and the beers that were on his tray spilled. He then threw the remaining beer all over my friend’s face and shirt, soaking her with beer. When we complained, he shouted at us in Dutch and said that we “didn’t know how to walk.” He refused to apologize. The bartender said that the other guy was the owner and that he couldn’t do anything. Never experienced anything like this.

Terrible service. Rude staff. Waitress dropped our beer on the table and almost droped our food on the ground. We asked for bread and they said they don't serve bread, brought sandwitches to another table. Made us go inside to pay while at another table they brought a POS machine to them. Lied to us the machine is broken when we could clearly see it was not. Avoid at all cost. Hopefully next year a better cafe will take its place.

Our favorite resting place .... perfect for a great beer and people watching. The place is very small and cozy. Very Amsterdam. Also known as 'the writer's bar' for all the famous writers that stop by. They do not serve much food...so if you need to eat, go some place else first... Then come here!

Nice atmosphere, feels like you are in dutch place, nice bar with good service i think. It’s one of the older cafes in Amsterdam i would recommend visiting. Apple pie was frozen though, but it’s a bar….have a drink :)

My favorite cafe in Amsterdam. Always a seat available outside. Great people watching. And what I love most is that there are locals and regulars who are staples here. Great vibe and good coffee. The waitress, Vera, is as good of any hospitality worker in the city of Amsterdam. Absolutely love this place!

Terrible place with terrible service. Although the bar looks nice it suffers from despicable service. The main barman is very condescending and disrespectful. He additionally made remarks to my group of 7 people because only two of us did not order anything. In short avoid this place there are many better bars where you’ll feel welcomed.

Nieuwe jonge ambitieuze eigenaren Jeroen & Mireille, gave fotografische marketing, centraal gehuisvest op t Spui, (= een volle internationale straat van spijs & drank zaken ), vlotte service, smakelijke bieren en sterke alcoholische aanverwanten, verwarmd terras en schootdekens , corona verantwoord.

Definitely wouldn't recommend. The waiter was super cold, unfriendly and rude. The glasses were dirty and at the end we weren't allowed to pay seperately saying that it's too busy. I should have payed for all of the guests and deal with the rest myself so that it's more convinient for them, right?!

Great time spent with some cocktails. The service is pretty slow however is friendly and attentive. The atmosphere and the ambient make the things charming. Nice decorated. Only one advice, the mojitos were extremely souer both days, extremely high.

Om 16.00 uur een drankje willen nuttigen omdat het regent. Maar omdat we (met 2 kinderen van 8 en 1 kind van 4 jaar) binnen kwamen, vertelde ze ons dat we niet welkom waren! Mijn man en ik waren not amused. Zeer onaardig personeel dus!

Bijzonder onaardige personeel. Jagen hun klanten eerder weg dan dat ze graag hebben. Onhygiënisch, pakt ijsklonten met de hand. Loopt ondertussen te vloeken over de toeristendrukte in de stad. Gezellig kan ik het niet noemen.

Typisch Amsterdams café. Tikkeltje intellectueel en artistiek publiek. Terras met verwarming. In de ochtend zon. Geen lunches, wel tosti's, appeltaart, ossenworst en kaas. Prettige bediening door ervaren kelners.

We were sitting outside and drinking some beer and wine. The location is really sweet and for us typical in Amsterdam! The prices were really good for such a cute place.

Nice Cafe, cheap beer and friendly staff. Not too crowded, which is nice as it is not the largest of places. I did not try the food here but it did look good. Really relaxing place!
