Came here for a Thursday lunch with my Mum and brother and we ordered: 1. 2 x Large Sweet Potato Lattes 2. 1 x Mixed Berries Crush 3. Soft Shell Crab Burger 4. Spiced Lamb Wrap 5. Beef Katsu Sandwich 6. Plate of chips to share The drinks were very quick to come out and looked perfect and delicious. The berry crush wasn’t too sweet, just perfect. Very refreshing. The sweet potato latte was unusual and you could taste the sweet potato. Very warm and comforting. I had the soft shell crab burger and it was very tasty. I loved the fried egg on top of the soft shell crab and the charcoal bun is very striking. Service was fantastic. Wait staff were attentive and fulfilled all requests quickly and the orders came flying out very quickly too. Loved all the trinkets and decorations around the place. The cafe owners went out of their way to accumulate all the vintage sewing machine tables, buckets, picture frames, pots, pans & etc to give this place a very rustic and warm vibe. I felt like I was on the set of Oliver Twist! I feel like this place would really rival The Grounds of Alexandria and their style of decor yet didn’t come with the same price tag when it came to the food. I found the food to be very reasonably priced! Probably cheaper than a lot of other eateries. I was constantly looking around because there was just so much to look at and even the theme was carried over nicely to the toilets. They really paid attention to all the little details! This is such a funky little place and I would definitely return and bring some friends!

Summary: This charming eatery offers great service, delightful coffee, and food. Though the flavors were excellent, a minor tweak in presentation could elevate the dish even further. Nonetheless, it's a wonderful dining experience overall. During my visit to the area, I decided to pop into this cozy restaurant for a solo lunch. Ordering a large cappuccino and the intriguing Spanish baked eggs. The service was top-notch, and my order arrived promptly, the restaurant not overly busy at this time. The Spanish baked eggs proved to be a flavorful delight. The dish showcased a medley of diced chorizos and prawns nestled in a rich tomato-based sauce, crowned with a perfectly poached egg. A slice of sourdough accompanied the ensemble on the side. Each element brought its own unique flavor to the table, but I couldn't shake the feeling that they were cooked separately and combined later in a cast iron skillet. Consequently, the flavors remained distinct and didn't blend harmoniously throughout the dish. The only letdown was the portion of sourdough. The sauce was rich and delicious, making the bread the ideal companion for savoring every drop. Regrettably, a single slice wasn't enough to relish the entire experience fully.

If you're a serious foodie or just want a high quality feed this place is hands down the best I've had in a very very long time. All the ingredients were morning market fresh, service was fast and friendly, coffee was on point and the kitchen staff are nothing short of freaking geniuses!!!! Perfectly balanced - flavour, texture, variety, colour you name it they knew what they were doing, very clever. Will recommend to anyone and will be returning to dive through the menu! Thankyou for the meal :)

Because of all the beautiful photos, I'm back again to try some food. 1) duck burrito - light & refreshing, would be nice if the smoke ducks pieces were spread more evenly. 2) salmon stack - what a beautiful piece of art! And that is :( unfortunately the salmon steak was dried and overlooked. Sauces were bit too salty of my liking 3) Taro latte - yummy 4) Oolong latte - was really interesting but certainly won't order that again. 5) charcoal burger with steak/soft shell crab - quite nice, would be nicer if there are chips on the side 6) prawn pasta - creamy and yummy, included 4 large prawns 7) Ice coffee - not sure what’s in it but we had a bit of stomachache after having it ---------------------------------------------- Previous viewing: If you are a coffee lover, this is not your place to get your coffee. My coffee has a burnt and bitter taste :( not impressed

Cute Cafe in West Ryde. A kitch decor but a nice environment. The staff are friendly and even dress up in theme for occasions like Halloween. The food is good and coffee is a decent albiet standard bean. The smoothies and shakes go down well too. While most items are fairly similar to other cafes, they are well priced and nothing bad to say about them. The venue itself has two entries, either the main street side or via the back alley/road (marked by a combi van). Parking is a nightmare in the area, so your best bet is in the local woollies carpark. The station is also nearby if you're coming via train. 4 / 5 would visit again.

Really awesome place. There are many cafes in West Ryde area, I tend to reach at every corners to support their business. However, if I miss to have coffee in this “One Upon a Time”, family run cafe, I feel I missed something that day. They have a juvenile team who are pretty quick in service. I love the atmosphere- it’s full of antique pieces and beautiful music on the background. They serve really nice coffee with nice latte art! I have breakfast here as well. It’s nice one and I advise everyone to try out.

This cosy and popular little Cafe is located opposite West Ryde station. After placing my breakfast order for smashed avo at the counter, I didn't need to wait long before the dish was delivered by a pleasant waitress. It turned out to be a generous serve, and I always give additional points for presentation. While the dish was generally well prepared, I did find the bread to be poorly toasted with the texture of warm bread rather than toast.

Soooo impressed! We put our names down to wait for a table for brunch - first meal outing in the rolling-back of Isolation. Perused the menu - could not decide between the Belgian Breakfast or the Signature Atlantic Salmon Stack - so we had one of each..... Big plug for "Once Upon a Time" at West Ryde - a glorious piece of yesteryear, wonderful menu that did NOT disappoint, and they very neatly handled the 10-at-a-time law, with excellent service. We will be back!! When it is all open again, the downstairs back entry and seating booths are a real treat.

Fantastic brunch location! My favourite drink is their green tea frappe. Love the aesthetic of the cafe and the unique touches. Lovely little chić cafe in the heart of west ryde! Their Super Bowl was beyond expectations with crunchy kale chips and a variety of veggies and we added the smoked salmon. The acai bowl had a good selection of fruits and muesli but lacked in quantity of acai. Delicious- wish there was more!

We had breakfast at this vintage cafe. There are two levels to this place. Indoor and outdoor seating available. The venue has two entries either on the main street or via the back alley. Order and pay at the counter. The staff are friendly and quick service. Food is pretty good with great coffee☕. Parking is challenging, better off parking in the local Woolies carpark. Highly recommend!

Mind blowing breakfast. Food was amazingly fresh, well presented, and phenomenal to the taste buds. Staff were happy and friendly. The kitchen spotless, kitchen were regimented and a well oiled machine, food arrived as advertised and in a timely fashion. Hard to find fault here. Best time to go a Sunday morning for us, we arrived at 9 and was getting busy as we left. Highly recommend. Even the lunch menu looked unreal.

  • Charmian Kwan

Coffee was nice, the cafe had a nice vibe of vintage sewing tables and display of old school singer sewing machines. Breakfast was nice but tad pricey (yes noted with inflation of costs of ingredients) for the portion. Would come back for coffee any day! Ratings more towards a 3.8/3.9 . By the way, they have outdoor seatings downstairs at the back which will be nice to chill on a good weathered day!

I had brunch at this cosy vintage Cafe tucked in the heart of West Ryde just off Victoria Road. The delectable menu had a variety of foods to offer, the service from the staff was friendly, and the antique decor really gives it a fairytale atmosphere which the name describes. I look forward to coming here again! ❤️ …

Randomly stopped here for brekky one morning. The cafe welcomes you with a rustic antique theme. There are two levels in this cafe and an outdoor seating. You can park on the street behind and enter the cafe through the back. The coffee is good and the presentation of the food is beautiful. Cannot believe I stumbled on this gem.

Such a cute cafe with an interesting design. We dropped by for a drink and got myself a strawberry smoothie. The drinks were well priced and looks like they have a large food offering as well. Will be sure to have brunch or lunch next time in the area.

Great food, great coffee, great service. For breakfast, my husband ordered a Belgian Breakfast and I ordered a Duck Burrito. Both were delicious. The portions were so big that we didnt need lunch and only ate a light dinner on the day.

Really nice and casual place to go. Enjoy your coffee with the vintage and rustic decors. Coffee is great so as the service. You can also save your money if you bring your own take away coffee cup with you. It’s a good deal. The good thing is, it’s next to train station. Grab your coffee before your train. …

The decor at this cafe is really fascinating. They have made use of old sewing machines to form tables. I really liked the vintage vibe going on. Food wise I had the Benedict and mushroom toast. Both were tasty and a decent portion. Coffee was also good. Definitely worth checking out if in the West ryde area

Ridiculously fast service. I mean stupidly fast, even when the restaurant was about half full. Friendly staff. Yummy and nicely presented food. Very cute decor and vibe. Wish I'd tried this place long ago. Don't miss the downstairs section if upstairs is full. Cool in there, even on a hot day.

I come here with my kids. Bottom level is great for a kid that just wants to run away all the time. Breakfast is incredible with lots of option that are big enough to share with my 2 year old. Some photos of brunch over the past few months.

Rip off for a duck burrito at $19.50 + 1.5% card surcharge that was mostly just lettuce. Absolutely no tasty cheese and no tomato salsa as advertised. Absolute disappointment.

Came here with high expectations based on all the reviews I read and this place was good but not mind blowing fantastic. The food tastes fine considering its on the pricer side ($20 for a chicken sandwich) but nothing was a stand out.

What a great cafe. Quick and friendly service and not too expensive. Coffee is nice and they always add something extra to their menu items. The atmosphere and decorations perfectly match the name of this cafe. Love it
