With a wide variety of delicious food, excellent coffee, fun drink, and delightful customer service, I can't say I've ever had a bad experience here. The food surprises me with its quality every time, and the coffee tends to do the same. (Especially if I remember to ask for less sweetness.) Each employee I've interacted with has been a friendly, helpful, and polite individual and while sometimes curious glances can be passed, they tend to serve with respect and quality. Cafe on the Ave has complimentary wifi with a generally great connection even on the outdoor patio. They also have a restroom for paying customers, and some outlets to charge up as well. The seating is usually comfortable. One thing to note is that it's a self-bussing establishment - you're expected to take your own drinks to the table and grab your silverware, napkins, water, and condiments as well. They will bring your food to you if you get some (I highly recommend their Breakfast and Dinner menus in particular!) by giving you a number placard they can match with your food order and find you. After that, though, you'll need to locate the bins on the other side of the small hallway leading to the bathroom, which is to the right of the main counter. Especially with how busy they can be, this helps everyone get the service they need and keep things cleaner. They sanitize, currently require masks per mandated guidelines, there is ample hand sanitizer available, and I personally have never seen a truly dirty table. The bathrooms have creative statements by local artists (graffiti. Nothing offensive from what I've seen) but are also kept very clean. Overall, take an hour to sit in and relax, have some excellent food and/or coffee, leave a nice tip, enjoy the laughter, and soak in the pleasant atmosphere. I've also seen many a student taking a chance to study. Not a bad idea! Thank you for always surprising me with your goodness!

Pros: This place is open for dining during the pandemic, with quite a few seating options: indoor by the window, indoor by the long wall, outdoors, etc.. Service is friendly! Plenty of outlets, which I didn’t use, but this is nice bonus for working on a laptop. This place is clean! After each guest leaves, someone sprays and wipes. I was offered water with my meal, which is great because I forgot my water bottle at home. Could improve: You can get water, but they only had styrofoam cups, which is bad for the environment. It just dawned on me that since I was dining in, I probably could have requested a coffee mug. I ordered from the “new” menu and I initially only received the entree and not the side salad. The person that brought out the entree was unaware about the salad. Once I pointed out the salad on the menu, it came not too long after. A majority of the time I make deliberate eating choices, so I ordered this particular meal because it came with salad versus another meal that came with rice. A customer shouldn’t have to point out the menu. It detracts from the experience, so I knocked off one star. (The way my review system works is that everyone starts with 5 stars.) The salad was excellent! The sweet and sour chicken was so-so. I think they should take everything out besides the lemon peel and chicken and offer lemon chicken instead, but I digress. (See pic) Overall vibe: Kind of a dark ambience versus sunny and bright due to the furniture being dark. It was busy in terms of number of customers, yet calm. Customers were appropriately spaced. It wasn’t a ghost town like some of the establishments I’ve been in during the pandemic. Very professional staff. I would come here again.
It pains me to write this review as I am a regular customer but today was too shocking to not post for the public to hear. Me and my wife both get our usual Hot Mama burgers with fries and upon recieving our food my wife noticed multiple mold spots on her burger (one pictured below, fuzzy mold spot in center of bun), no big deal she just took it to the front and asked for another. The chef then began arguing that it was fine (added flavor i guess!?) and the kind wait staff had to point it out to him till he listened. While waiting for another burger i began eating mine as i was starving (big mistake). I should have listened to my wife and better checked the burger. By the time i was half way through the burger i had noticed a large puffy mold spot on the bottom bun that i had bitten into. I did not end up finishing the meal, I didnt want to be a burden and request another burger made/refund, the cooks and wait staff have enough to deal with and probably are not pid enough. Thus, Me and my wife shared her meal instead and we promptly left. About 2 hours later I was on the toilet at home vomiting my guts out. Make sure to check your food guys, atleast until better food quality checks/standards are done at this establishment. The kind wait staff is the only reason this is a two star rating and not a one.
I have been a customer since the times of CaféRoma. Ok for friendly service, but a little error-prone. The place looks good, but the speakers/volume are way loud, very echoey. Chairs and tables in good shape. I give 5 to 4 stars for adding the minibar (coming soon) and for the menu options. Too bad for the coffee lover: poor pastry options (should consult with Solstice or Allegro cafes). The bathroom remodel is a plus!. But, another negative is that they have not figured out the cleanliness factor. Tables remain sticky and dirty after use. Dirty dishes pile up in bins right next to tables and bar area remaining there for long periods of time That maybe why there were FLIES coming over to my table to check my food out. It might also be due to the fact that the bathroom door does not close and stays open after customers use it. All this while the place is not even crowded. And for final and most negative: If you are a PAYING customer, sitting at one of their open/available tables, the restaurant can still come and ask you to move out from the table, since they just made a reservation on it (!!) I have travelled to several countries around the world, that is a first! Odd and kind of rude. If the negatives are taken care of, maybe a repeat option!

It was around 12.30 am and we were starving and started looking for places around with the objective “food”. No great reviews of this place but it was so alive and cheerful inside the cafe that we decided to try the place. It is a cafe so we have to stand in a queue and place our order and are given a table number and food was served at the table. The place was managed by young bunch of people. We settled for a chicken quesadilla, fried chicken, pasta ( Alfredo and shrimp). My friends also ordered soju and beers. The food came in quickly and they were Huge portions. The food tasted simple and nice. The energy of the place because it was filled with students from UW was unbeatable. None of us could finish the food. The ambience can be considered noisy for some as the definition is subjective :). The place was ok in terms of cleanliness as that wasn’t a prerogative clearly. They have some good options on the menu which we didn’t try and maybe will some other day. For the money we paid the food was of very good quantity. Was about 62 dollars for all that we ordered. We were there till about 2 am and the place still was bustling with activities. Try if you are around.
A very good place for what its Good for. Mostly a student Hangout which has a pretty decent selection of Asian Food such as Rice Bowls, Chicken Kaarage and then standard American Fare such as Sandwhiches/Hamburgers and Breakfast food. Also serves Coffee and Smoothies. I gave this a 5-star, because I'm not expecting it to be what its not meant to be such as some Full Service High Volume restaurant and because it satisfies all the essential needs. Some other things I like about this place is a Booth Seat that runs along the entire wall with Plugins for Laptops/electronics that are placed just along the booth seats ontop for Easy Access. Plenty of Tables large tables even though it does get very busy. Also open late hours 12PM-2AM depending on days. A younger crowd of UW students as expected. As for service when ordering food it is ok I have no complaints...I order my food and take a table number and they bring it to me promptly without any hassle.
I have given this place NUMEROUS attempts and every single time they fail horribly. The service is sub par at best. I'm not sure how you end up in the hospitality industry and clearly hate your job and people. The food again sub par at best. I have been served lukewarm food multiple times and Isaiah, the FOH team member who has served me multiple times told me was embarrassing rude and made it a big deal that I refused to eat food that was being served to me cold. The other FOH employee literally ignored me when I tried to ask her a question. What are these people doing?! The manager came out and immediately addressed the issues and refunded me my food. I will not be returning to this establishment but I should have known when I saw this place had 3 stars to begin with. Parking is paid due to it being walking distance from UW and it's just Seattle. Never ever ever again. A true stain on the Seattle food scene.
Imma be honest here. Don’t come here unless u want salads sandwiches burgers drinks and alcohol. Their Asian food is decent at best. They seem to use some sort of glutinous rice for their Kimchi fried rice that doesn’t get crispy in the slightest. I feel like ppl may hype up the food here cuz of the atmosphere but I feel like it has decreased over the years. There used to be these really sweet girls working here but now it’s just full of Asian boys who just blink absentmindedly at the register. With this recent renovation they seem to be focusing on becoming more of a bar. Breakfast is ok nothing mind blowing. i used to love this place :( just dont get asian food here and ur fine

I do recommend checking this place out at least once. Coffee was great. The food is why so little stars. Ordered a breakfast burrito with no cheese add sausage, paying almost 20 bucks for this, and got a tiny burrito with cheese and no sausage even though I paid extra for the sausage. By the time the food came out it was already time for me to leave so I didn't know my order was wrong until it was too late. Definitely will give this place another try but only when i have adequate time. The location itself is cool right on "the ave" and their improvised open air wall was quite the add in. It is bus yourself which for what you pay to enjoy their product is surprising but a lot of cafés are going that way anyway.
Local Cafe in around the UW area in Seattle. Had their buttermilk pancake and special hot chocolate with red velvet flavour, buttermilk pancake and banana bread. The hot chocolate was good; I thought it was innovative and I loved it because I enjoy red velvet. However, it was served lukewarm. The pancake was not good. It tasted like uncooked flour. Not a hint of buttermilk. The banana bread was good. However, it was in a box of day old pastries labeled $1. Later, I checked the receipt and was charged $3. Overall, not an exceptional experience except for being introduced to red velvet flavoured hot chocolate which was kind of cool.
My only complaint is that I preserved extra bacon. When I didn’t receive it I asked about it and was told it didn’t go through the computer system. The gentleman who took my order repeated the order back to me, so I thought it had gone through. Instead of correcting the error they took the trouble to print out my receipt to show that I didn’t pay for it. If eating here ask for a receipt and check it before you walk away from the counter. You’ve already tipped, so that cat is out of the bag.

UPDATE (4/24/20): For the individual who made my grilled cheese and the person who gave me strawberry lemonade on the house because I told them via Uber Eats that i miss it, YOU ARE ROCK STARS. ~ I got a grilled cheese last night and it was not as good as the one you made me today. THANK YOU. ~ To the person who gave me free strawberry lemonade, YOU MADE MY FREAKING QUARANTINE. !! 5 stars for customer service !! Original Review (4 stars): GREAT FOOD. Underwhelming coffee though. Espresso was fine but the milk was foamy.
BRING BACK OUTLETS --- Along with staying open late, one of the biggest advantages this place had were its outlets so people could plug in their phones/laptops, so they could stay/study. After the remodel, the outlets are now gone, basically negating any reason come at all, if you want to study. This might have been a strategic move by management, but if so, please recognize your outlets were what made CAFE ON THE AVE so valuable to the student community looking to study there. BRING BACK YOUR OUTLETS! PLEASE!
This is honestly one of the best cafes I have been to so far. It's in a convenient location, has a nice atmosphere, and the staff is friendly. I have tried the iced mocha and I can say that it's is one of my favorites. Their espresso blend is a good one that is not to bold but has enough body to please. I also had the carbonara. It was very good and creamy and was a good portion for its price. I would recommend that dish to anyone.

Good breakfast, made fresh Drip coffee, espresso, and non coffee options available Alt. Milks available Drip coffee is done well, not bitter or left to perk too long Single person bathroom for customers. Lots of tables, along the wall there are power outlets WiFi for customers, fairly quick, password at the counter Music is loud compared to a chain coffee shop. Headphones recommend, as the music changes often, and you may or may not like it. Parking is on the street, or in paid lots.
Great local study spot with a wide variety of food options. This restaurant has decent food, abundant seating areas, and a wide variety of drink options if you are looking for a more Cafe-like experience. If you need a charging port the options are a bit more sparse, but I've never had any issues beyond a short wait at peak times.

One of the worst and disappointing foods I have ever had in my life. The ingredients are not used fresh and tastes pungent and bitter. The foods are either uncooked or over-prepared. One of the waiters was absolutely clueless of the dish being delivered and had to be asked for a change for the add-ons. Highly unrecommended!!!

1st time visiting this cafe. Attempted to order iced coffee, but attention-deficit server #1 wanted to make Espresso instead. Good thing the server next to her came correct and repeated "iced coffee!" Nice save, server #2! Will give the place another try later; since the interior ambiance is quite inviting.

I was in a hurry to catch my bus and the server yelled at me and Threatened to beat me up because I don’t have time to bus my table! Careful of the Asian server guy with medium length hair and beanie, he might just beat you up for spilling your drink on the table! He served me on 29th of December if the owner care to hire somebody sane and reasonable.

A nice place to get a quick meal! I went here twice and had breakfast and lunch. I love that they serve breakfast all day which was convenient. I found the carbonara to be a bit oily but it satisfied my craving. Also, this establishment uses self-bussing which I’m not used to for more formal dining places but it was no issue. Would definitely come back again!

I've been here a few times, and it has been really good and also sometimes very average. I definitely recommend any of their asian food, and their salads are great. College atmosphere with good vibes. Food is not the highlight. We ordered 2 burgers - one avocado and havarti, the other mushroom and Swiss. What we got were identical oddly sweet, vaguely BBQ tinged burgers with no hint of avocado or mushrooms. Sweet potato fries were served with honey. Odd place. Won’t go there again.

Although this place has changed quite a bit since I first came, the new food options are still pretty good! I feel like I could definitely become a regular here, and I definitely want to try the majority of the menu. For now, I'll leave my rating up as 4 stars simply due to presentation not being the absolute best, but that could also be due to pandemic. Will try more of their menu next time!
Breakfast (eggs oe, bacon, hash browns, toast) were cold even though there were few other patrons. Service was non-existent, so get it yourself. I don't blame the workers, though. Management needs to make this a place people would actually enjoy being at.

A solid and affordable place to grab breakfast, standard american food options but they do have a few Korean foods on offer. Never been disappointed always felt like I got what I paid for here, try the French toast it's great. Not a good place to study some days unless you are okay with noise, as it can get a little busy at times.

Edit: Went back again Kaitlyn, Jackie, and Teja provided great service and it was overall a very pleasant experience! I recommend the Eggnog Latte!
Cool cafe spot! Salad had a good balance of toppings and was giant (which it should be for 14 dollars at lunch). It reminded me of a local version of Panera. I'm not saying it's the best thing I've ever had but it was solid. Would go back. Side note, it has covered outdoor seating which is another plus.

It's standard cafe food. The prices are on the steeper side for what they're selling, but I found the food to be tasty and a decent portion size.
So they serve this great 떡볶이 dish after 8pm everyday, it was better than almost all the 떡볶이 I’ve had in Seattle. Highly recommend.
early bird breakfast deals are dope 630-930am and the night crowd with korean options and music choice is a great atmosphere
perfect menu for the whole day, breakfast, lunch and dinner... good coffee thru thr day as well
An akatsuki member made me and my wife the best latte we’ve had in a while, would recommend
