I wish my experience at Cal Dental Group was as great as everyone else's, but despite being worked on by some wonderfully nice individuals, their pleasantness does not lessen the issues I have because of their treatment. I went there early in the year due to pain in my lower right jaw and received treatment to drill and fill approximately 4-5 cavities, one of which lead to a root canal and crown, which was completed by Dr. Sean Sunyoto and his assistants. My root canal was completed flawlessly, however the cavity fillings broke less than a week after application coupled with an extremely painful cold sensitivity. One of the fillings that didn't break had this sensitivity as well. This probably should have been my first red flag, but I put my trust into Dr. Sean and his assistants. I was assured I could come back in case of any issues on my first visit and I did come back the following week. After having the broken fillings repaired, I still had an extremely painful cold sensitivity on the lower molar fillings and even after 5 more visits, about 3 months span, to repair this, of being told there was nothing wrong, being told it was caused by an impacted wisdom tooth (which they extracted), the pain and cold sensitivity persists to this day. I truly could not understand how they could not help me. Whatever methods they were using to figure out the issue apparently were not effective enough to solve this problem for some reason. I was made to seem like I was lying about the pain, like I was enjoying coming back multiple times for the same issue. I did not appreciate being suggested a liar, but I just wanted to get the issue fixed, so I stayed quiet about that. (I didn't think it would be a good idea to upset the person who's about to be drilling in your mouth.) After being told there was nothing wrong multiple times, joking that I should clock in since I go there so often(lol), I was told it could be because of my wisdom tooth, so, with me being in extreme constant pain, I asked them to take it out. To this day, that wisdom tooth extraction was one of the most unnecessarily traumatic dental experiences in my life. I hate to admit it, but I was shaking like a frightened child I was in so much pain during the extraction. Compared to my other wisdom tooth extraction from a previous dentist, this one was a brutal nightmare in comparison. I had to ask Dr. Sean at least 2 times during the procedure to give my jaw a break as the force exerted on my jaw was going from extremely tender to extremely painful, nothing like my previous other extraction. It took much longer than Dr. Sean had anticipated, I think, as he had to apply an extreme amount of force to my jaw which, subsequently, lead to symptoms similar to temporomandibular joint disorder(TMJ). These TMJ-like symptoms developed on the side he exerted this extreme force on in the following months. The wisdom tooth healed properly, but the jaw pain did not subside, nor did the extremely painful cold sensitivity. It seems the wisdom tooth extraction not only did not solve my issue, but created an even worse one in its place. I do not have these same symptoms on the other side of my jaw where I had my previous wisdom tooth removal. I still have these TMJ like symptoms to this day, coupled with the same painful cold sensitivity the extraction was meant to solve. So, now I have this constant pain and popping sound while eating, food gets stuck because some fillings aren't 'tight' enough, I can barely floss some areas because some fillings are too 'tight', I can't eat or drink cold things without extreme pain, and I am too afraid of these guys to go back. The last time I went, I told them about the jaw pain and was essentially told it's my fault. I cannot believe this. I've got these annoying little specks of excess filling on the outer edges of the repaired teeth, I can't yawn anymore without soreness, can't talk for long periods anymore without pain. I have a feeling that if I go back, more will go wrong. It's quite depressing as these procedures were not cheap.

I have waited for a year and a half to write this review, but if I could give this place negative stars I would. This place is a scam. Do not go here. Here’s the whole story: About a year and a half ago I went to get dental work done at this place after not going to the dentist for a few years. I just thought this would be a regular check up. When I got there and they examine me, they told me that I had 14 cavities. They have all of the latest equipment and apparently use that to diagnose how bad your teeth are. Then they tried to sell me on getting braces again because my bottom teeth have moved a little bit. I was told that I would get a discount if I paid for getting all of the cavities today, even if I didn’t get the work done that day. Since I hadn’t been to the dentist for a while, and I once had a bunch of cavities done when I was young, I thought this was normal. Throughout this whole thing, the middle aged dentist assistant guy kept trying to sell me on a mouthguard for $300 that if I paid for that day I would get a 30% discount on. All of this because I told them that I think I grind my teeth at night. I wanted to get the work done so I gave the go ahead to get the cavity done. In the middle of the procedure, the dentist tells me that my cavity is deeper than he thought and that he’s going to have to add this special paste which is going to be a small extra cost. The extra cost ended up being close to $90. When I told this to one of my friends, they suggested that I go see their trusted dentist in Pasadena. When I go to this dentist office, he tells me that I don’t have any cavities, and the only one that is just small and maybe should be taken out seems to be the one that Cal Dental had done work on. Thankfully I only had one cavity filled there. The Pasadena dentist said my teeth looked pretty good gave me a cleaning and sent me on my way. I didn’t even have to pay a co-pay with this one because he actually took my insurance. The TLTR is that I went to this place and they told me that I had 14 cavities when in fact, I have none and try to upsell me a bunch of stuff, even in the middle of a procedure. Honestly, this place should be investigated by the consumer protection bureau and shut down. Do not go here!!!

AVOID THIS OFFICE. DISHONEST TACTICS this office is made up of swindlers $$$ BEWARE OF EXTRA OUT OF POCKET CHARGES $$$ This dental office used to be owned by Dr. Kim, a beloved Ktown honest dentist. He sold the practice and retired and now it's owned by Dr. Olga. The office manager is a man named Alec, he is a professional sweet-talking con-man. He plays friendly and he will switch on you and berate you if you question the extra "treatment" that they throw in on top of whatever it is you came to get done. (Alec called me "a disgusting human" when I questioned the extra charges while standing in the wait room in front of other unfortunate customers) Beware of the out-of-pocket expenses, if your insurance doesn't cover it you must tell them that you don't need it or else you'll end up paying HUNDREDS of dollars MORE OUT OF YOUR POCKET for treatment that you do not need. Alec and Dr. Olga herself made it seem that it was standard practice to pay $600 out of pocket for a CT scan and $280 out of pocket for applying medicine (snake oil) prior to a routine cleaning. This is NOT standard. It's best to AVOID THIS OFFICE AND NOT HAVE TO BE SURPRISED BY THEIR DISHONEST TACTICS.

Dishonest business, will try and make you pay things covered by your insurance. Went in for a root canal consultation and was told I would have to pay X amount in co-pay after the pre-authorization for the procedure went through to my insurance. After scheduling the root canal and being forced to pay a deposit I called my insurance to make sure that the copayment would be correct (it wasn't). They said I was fully covered under my plan and that I shouldn't be paying anything. Days later I checked to see if the pre-auth went through and guess what, it did. Confused, I tried to get both my insurance and Cal Dental Group(the one on Crenshaw - I see you commenting in people's reviews saying they have the wrong office, not the case here) on the phone. This led to the office manager phoning me directly to verbally gaslight me and tell me I am troublesome, argumentative, combative, and "wasting their hard workers time". Needless to say, I cancelled my appointment. Awful dental practice and a shame. Should NOT be in business. Beware and do your due diligence if going here.

Quite awful. They offer unnecessary treatments and overcharge. I initially went in for a brace consultation, but I had to do a check up with their dentist first because that was their requirement. Although Dr. Olga seemed honest and through, I ended up with an estimation of $8000 of treatments, even though I had no apparent cavities or unstable teeth. Then they booked me for a periodontist, who also gave me an estimate of additional $4000 for gum grafting. It was clear that they don't even have an on-site orthodontist. Since then I went around and sought other opinions, and no other dentists claimed I need those treatments. A few months after that experience, I called Cal Dental again to book a teeth whitening treatment, because the other dentistry I had been going to was fully booked until the next month. And when I mentioned I had been going to other dentistry, the supervisor named Alec got very upset and started cornering and scolding me. Very unprofessional. So, unless you are little submissive and likes to get yelled at and ripped off, avoid this place.

Went here to get a consultation for Invisalign and to compare the price. Appointment at 4:30, they called me at 4:15 and said my appointment was at 4pm which was confusing. Waited an hour for the orthodontist to show up, his name is Dr. Ibrahim. He's rude and arrogant, that's all I can say. After the consultation, I thought anyone would come to explain it to me about price, I just couldn't wait anymore and just ask someone that just passed by my room to help and call someone so I can just get out of there. Someone came in, he said he was the doctor assistant, he explained and showed me the price, and it's $6200 which is way more expensive that the previous orthodontist I went to. For the record, when I talked to their receptionist when I made the appointment, they said their most expensive cost for Invisalign is $5100 I'm glad I just came in for a consultation, but I definitely was wasting my time there.

After receiving some bad advice from my previous dentist, I switched to Cal Dental Group who then gave me the advice I needed. The entire team, from the front desks, to the doctors, to the hygienists and assistants were all very friendly, helpful, and open to answer any and all questions I had. On top of that, the staff were very transparent when explaining the problems I had, why I had them, and what to do to avoid them in the past. Ultimately, the team at Cal Dental Group was probably the best dental staff I have ever had the experience of being a patient with. I have now found my new home here at cal dental for all my teeth-related needs. I am ecstatic to have found such a nice office filled with such nice people to visit regularly. No more bad mannered staff giving me the wrong advice! Thank you Cal Dental!

Let me start by saying that I have had a fear of dentists for the last 5 years and I just didn't go for previous bad experiences. This time around my family urged me to go to the dentist and have a look and recommended me to Cal Dental Group. On my first visit, I sat there in the waiting room so nervous until the staff greeted me and offered me some water. They chatted with me to keep me calm and steadily checked on me. When I spoke with the dentist, he was very cool and explained every step of my procedure very calmly (I was asking lots of questions, because I do have ins and pay out of pocket). They are very professional and are perfectionists at their craft. I've been going there now for 5 months now and I can actually say they make me feel like I'm a part of their family.

The dental assistant who cleaned by teeth was more helpful and communicative about my options regarding my care than the orthodontist. Instead the orthodontist talked down at me, was rude and not communicative. He seemed appalled at the idea that I didn’t want to fix the gaps in my teeth and refused to have a conversation with me about my options regarding my next steps in my dental care. He walked away in the middle of my questions and his colleague had to go and talk to him about the rest of my questions because he seemed so done with me and my love for the gaps in my teeth. Any dentist who says there is only “one way” to do things is trying to take as much money from you as possible. Go for a teeth cleaning but find another orthodontist.

Absolutely love this office! I had an exam done with Dr. Karnakova for a tooth that had been bothering me, and she is the sweetest most thorough dentist I've ever come across. She takes her time explaining what is wrong and then gives options for what would be the best course of action. She never pressured me into anything like I've had other dentists do. She tells it like it is but also wants to make you feel comfortable enough to decide for yourself. I ended up getting an extraction done at this office with their Oral Surgeon, Dr. Michael and he was so gentle and made sure I was ok throughout the whole procedure. Overall I had a very pleasant experience at this office and would recommend it to anyone!

I actually had a surprisingly negative experience here. The doctors and staff don’t seem to communicate well with each other so I was given a lot of vague and incomplete information about treatment. When I expressed frustration about having multiple misunderstands with the doctor and manager, they became very defensive and refused to accept any responsibility for their parts in the communication errors. I think if you’re more of a laid back, go with the flow kind of person you’ll probably have a nice experience here. However, if you do encounter any issues and voice concerns about them, the normally considerate staff will completely change in demeanor - kind of like feeding gremlins after midnight.

This is one of the best dental facilities I have ever visited. The doctors are exceptional, and their staff is superb as well. Their quality of work is top-notch, far better than a few dentist places I have been to before. The remarkable thing about this facility is that when examining your teeth, not only do they try to fix what needs immediate attention, but also look at defects in the teeth that may cause even more significant problems in the future. They make a precise dental plan to make your mouth as healthy as possible. Overall this dental facility has excellent doctors, outstanding work quality, and a genuine goal to keep your mouth as healthy as possible. 11/10, I would highly recommend.

A great Dentistry office with great staff. After moving to the area a couple months ago I was in pain from my wisdom teeth. I received an overpriced quote from a different office and was then referred by a friend to go to Cal Dental Group for all of my dentist/oral surgeon needs. They were able to get me in within the week and offered a much more reasonable pricing for wisdom teeth removal and scheduled an appointment. All of the staff has great bedside manner, and will work with you if you’re on a budget. I greatly appreciate this office for helping me in a time of need and am glad a friend recommended me here. I am happy to say I’ve found my new dentist in LA!

This entire dental office is truly such a blessing for anyone who's ever had a negative experience at the dentist. The front desk staff, the x-ray techs, and the dentist herself are so warm, friendly, and most importantly, NONJUDGEMENTAL. I hadn't been to a dentist in well over 11 years, so you could imagine how nervous and ashamed I was. However, everyone was so sweet and informative and they were very clear about what next steps to take and how much it would cost. I even referred my partner to this office and he had the exact same experience! Plus they have their own parking lot which is always a luxury in LA.

Poor communication, poor service, tries to up sell. In response to the owners of this office: My fiancé sought care here and got the run around for nearly 2 months after being promised a solution/care. After about 2 months, she was expecting a dental surgeon after an appointment was scheduled for a dental surgeon. The day of her scheduled visit, there was no surgeon on site. Then they told her in essence, "we can't help you, go somewhere else." So yes, the service was awful and about trying to upsell. Promised callbacks usually were not made. The whole experience was awful and promised care was not done.

First thing first, dr. Kim is the Best! I procrastinated for almost a year to get my wisdom teeth extracted because I was very scared of the pain. But when my wisdom teeth started hurting me more I had no choice. I chose dr. Kim because he had amazing reviews that put me at ease, needless to say they were all very true. When I finally made my appointment the staff was so kind to me and patient, they even gave me a stuffed animal to hold and comfort me. The local anesthesia was a breeze and works very well, I never felt a thing! In fact I laughed through the process because I was scared for nothing.

I was assigned a new regular dentist who made me aware of issues that I was not previously made aware of, and now the treatments are going to cost me a large sum of money. I used to trust this place, but after my recent appointment, now I'm not so sure. It's a shame because the staff on hand are always so courteous and pleasant. 2 star because I feel like being told every appointment that "everything looks fine" when in reality it's not, and it was just the old dentist lying to me and taking my money with a smile? Yikes. I have a follow-up appointment, so I will be updating my rating then.

I love Dr. Kim and his entire team. From the moment I spoke to Lissette to the moment Dr. Kim removed my braces not too long ago, I have never felt so comfortable being at the dentist's office. His entire team is incredibly professional, kind, helpful, and makes you feel right at home. As a college student, without dental insurance, I was worried about being able to afford braces. I feel so grateful for coming across this place. They helped me set up a great payment plan, and after a year I got my braces removed and at 25 years old I can finally smile confidently!!!

I will never come here again the office manager is rude, crude, and unprofessional My appointment was canceled i expressed how i was not happy about my appointment being canceled again and that i have yet to be informed about my crown. The manager Alec told me that it is not his fault that i don't how to call my insurance and that i am not wanted anymore as a patient and then he hung up me. I asked to speak with dr. Olga Karnakova but was told she did not want to speak to me , clearly she is in support of her staff mistreating her patients.

Where to start, it’s been over a year now that I’ve been taking my daughter to this dental office and she has not once complained about having to go to the dentist. Not only have been made it a pleasant experience the transformation of her teeth has been amazing. Since they have done such a great job at treating her, I’ve decided to give them a try and looking forward to my appointment. I’m confident that my experience will be nothing short of great. I’m glad that we came across this dental practice and hope that you enjoy them too.

They are the best dentists I have ever visited. The staff was extremely kind and efficient, and the care was incredible. I needed a wisdom tooth taken out and NOT ONLY was it painless, but they were able to do it on the same day! I have literally never received better care. Dr. Kim is best dentist I’ve ever had. Very profesional and with an amazing sense of humor. The staff there are also exceptional. They truly care about you and your teeth. My favorite staff member is Liz, she will always greet you with a smile. All my appointments have been right on time and I’m in and out without any delays. They have plenty of parking which is so o important, especially in LA. I also bring my daughter here and she too loves the doctor and everything else as mentioned above.

Cal Dental is THE BEST! I first came here with an emergency dental issue which I was very nervous about and they eased my pain and made me feel so comfortable. I have been coming to Cal Dental since I've moved to Koreatown and I am extremely happy with their services. They are great with appointment reminders and their staff is very attentive and helpful. Vanessa helped me get an immediate appointment and was very helpful and responsive to all my questions. Sunny is also a great hygienist and is very friendly. I truly appreciate the hospitality at this office and the cleanliness as well.

I had a severe toothache so I did a walk-in and they were so kind to take my case as an emergency. They have state-of-the-art equipment which resulted in comprehensive dental examination results and that same afternoon I got my wisdom teeth extracted. The surgery was performed very well which made the post-surgery experience better. I recently had a dental check-up and I've healed well. I definitely recommend this clinic.

I met with Olga and Alec for consultation and they were kind, empathetic and also understood my financial circumstances due to the ongoing pandemic and being uninsured. The staff was all so friendly. I had 4 impacted wisdom and I was prescribed antibiotic and painkillers. They scheduled my surgery and Alec really worked with me to make sure I can fit this into my budget so I can get the care I needed. Amazing service.

Thank you to the team at Cal Dental! I had needed an emergency root canal and a crown put in, they set me up with a specialist for the root canal and got my crown put on within 48 hrs of my initial visit. The office is comfortable and inviting and the attention to details was obviously highest priority. Very welcoming and friendly and made the whole situation a breeze. Thanks again!

I don't often write a review but when I do it's because the great service above and beyond the call of duty the whole staff are for there patients. I would always hate going to the dentist but there way explaining your treatment step by step and they work with you is beyond. I feel more confident with my teeth than ever in my life thank you!! Ok I'll just start of by saying that going to the dentist scared me. NOT ANYMORE!!! Dr.Kim made me feel comfortable relaxed when I went in recently to get a wisdom tooth taken out. He made sure that I wasn't nervous and his staff helped out a lot too. If anyone needs any dental work I strongly suggest Dr.Kim and is super friendly and highly professional staff

I just had my first appointment at this office as a new patient & I'm impressed! I had my X-rays and exam done first and met Dr. Karnakova, who is so sweet and genuine! She truly made me feel at ease. Then I had my teeth cleaned, and the hygienist did a great job! Overall the staff, management, and dentist are great. I finally found a dentist I can trust.

They address all of my dental anxiety so well. The front desk and financial department are so helpful and cheerful. I feel like they really are excited to see me when I come in by the way they greet me! Scheduling appointments is so easy and they send lots of reminders, which is very helpful. I’m so glad I found CalDental!

I have been to this office a few times already, and each time has been a great experience. The staff at the front desk are extremely nice and helpful. The office is really clean and welcoming. My first time at this office, and it did not at all disappoint. The entire staff is caring, patient, and overall amazing. One of their staff members in particular, Alec, was very helpful. He broke down the entire dental process very carefully and made sure everything was clear before.

I can't recommend Cal Dental enough. From your first visit all the staff make you feel welcome and you actually don't mind coming to the dentist. Dr Karnakova listens and explains everything clearly. All treatments have been pain free and very professional.

Everyone in the dental office were professional and caring. Dr Kim took time to explain the procedures and assured me that I was in the best hands. The staff is very friendly.
