I gave it a four cuz it's not fully open as the galleries and other exhibitions are under construction - but the artwork viewable in the outside lobby is impressive though scant, as befits the free entrance. I took the picture of the faux flowers for my lovely daughter, Ashanti Kimani, who loves flowers of all iterations. More
Great museum, the exhibits do change so you learn or see something new every time you visit. I highly recommend you visit with friends and family. For parking I would suggest behind the Chick-fil-A where all the restaurants are. I highly recommended on adding this to your todo list when visiting LA …
OMG If you're visiting Cali, this is a MUST stop on the To Do List! While I attended an event called Queens Fest, the exhibits were visually appealing and inspiring. There's also a science center as well. So it's family friendly …
There were maybe 6 people there total in the middle of the day. For some reason, the person at the desk made me hand carry my backpack. some of the art exhibits were interesting, and a bunch of old photos of people with captions. I really wanted to like this place, but it was dull and disappointing.
You can really slow down here take it in. Beautiful art. Much needed historical truths. Very peaceful place and it's free. Exhibits change frequently. Parking is $12 but if you take the train it drops you off very close. Take a stroll is the rose gardens before or after make it a wonderful day.
It's free, first of all, and second of all, is filled with amazing art and exhibits that really make you think about race, expression, and politics. I especially enjoyed the Ease of Fiction exhibit featuring surreal illustrations from different African artists exploring reality and perception.
This was a nice place to come see the exhibits on display. I love looking at art, trying to understand it, also the three screen videography was cool to watch. We also collected some great photos they had for the public to create their own collage. Lots of gems!
This was interesting to see & hear some of way the African-Americans were treated when they first were brought to America. There are many different feelings about happened to them. Some believe that everything was nice and happy all of the time! More
Free entrance. Excellent art galleries and historical exhibitions on the history of African American people in LA. Highly recommended. The space is really nice, they have kid activities. This museum deserves a visit if you are in Exposition Park.
Saw the writer/director of Black Panther Ryan Coogler in a live interview here. The place was packed! It was an awesome experience. Such a great museum! I've also seen the world famous artist, the great Ernie Banks paintings in an exhibit. More
This place is $15 just to walk around or $40 for every, definitely worth going to at least the $15.00. Dinosaurs bones everywhere upstairs downstairs. The African animals that are stuffed are very nice looking. The American stuffed animals
Such an amazing experiencing. I have never heard of the CAAM before my families trip to the LA area. We were looking for things to do with the family and came across it. This museum highlights lesser known African American artist that have
I went over there in the Museum for the Site Trip of my History Class. When I went there the 5 gallery was closed for the constructional work. That's why I didn’t get chance to explore the whole Museum. The staff was good and friendly also.
I went one my last day in California for the end of my vacation. My family and I are very big on understanding and experience many different aspects of Black Culture and History. The exhibits we amazing the Adia Millett room was breath
Another of my favorite museums. This retrospective featured the iconic master Ernie Barnes. You gotta really look at the subtle yet dramatic messaging and muscularity in his works. in that boxing scene, what’s the trainer saying to the
It's smaller than the rest. It has captivating exhibits, beautiful artwork, and interesting stories. I just think more should be done to attract more people to walk through those doors. People from all walks of life should check it out.
Today was my first time! Admission is free! What a cool place! A collection of art, culture and research in this building that is only getting better. You can see the development and how modern it is. The art pieces were amazing, very
This place was a breath of fresh air! Most African-American Museum‘s tend to focus on slavery and civil rights and highlight the same five or 10 people. This museum shows other aspects of African-American culture. One of then-current

I came here last year with a friend. We really loved all the amazing artwork from the talented artists. They do allow you to take photos of only some of the artwork. Definitely stop by if you are in the area.
Just went to see the special exhibit on slavery in California. Nothing i ever learned in school. Great documentation, stories, artifacts, movies, etc. to see how it was established and then finally ended.
This is one of my favorite museums in LA. I love how this museum always changes their exhibitions so it always feels new and fresh. Their exhibitions are always cool, relevant and important. More
I was disappointed that the museum was being renovated and only the lobby was open to only one exhibit. I hope the wait is worth it considering you have a spaceship to compete with now. More
Wonderful space, excellent staff. They are friendly and informative. The space hosts many free outside activities in addition to the installations. My family enjoys the Museum often. More
My first time here. It was a pleasant experience lot of fascinating works displayed. Very friendly staff and plenty of clean restrooms to use. Oh and it’s free of charge so no excuses.
today was the free museum day. this section was not crowded, but, the exhibits were good and the facilities were nice and clean. not many african american pieces though...
Only 4 exhibits were open for viewing, all worth the travel. Nice to see art come together like that. A small amount of people were there, made it pleasant to be there.
A must visit museum for anyone interested in learning more about AA culture. Free (not including parking) to get in so there’s no excuse for you not pulling up.
The museum is free to enter and has a lot of nice art to see. It’s worth your time to visit and see some beautiful art and learn some African American history.
I would visit just to visit it was a wonderful experience even though I only made it to the first floor but the artwork absolutely breathtaking More
Loads of information, with a few surprise elements. Took me 2 hours to get through all exhibits, but it can certainly be stretched out longer.
The CAAM is alive and provides plenty of room to breathe freely. The building itself, the plaza, the whole exposition park is a sight to see.
What an experience! Some of the most insightful exhibits I've seen in any museum. I felt connected to each artist and their works
Amazing museum! No wait time, just walk in. At the time, I saw the Buffalo Soldier exhibit. Small, free museum. More
