"Worst business ever in Australia"
"A pretty great photography/filmography store as part of the Camera House chain! It's conveniently located in the prime real estate of the Elizabeth St Mall and is mobility friendly with a fairly level shopfront and no ledges/steps to access the store"
"The staff (I dealt with Michael) and service at Stallards are second to none"
"If I could I would have given them negative stars! The staff at reception is ok but the lady who clicked my photo was so Rude and has zero customer service skills! When you’re getting your photos clicked for visas & other stuff since you’re not a professional photographer you wouldn’t know how to sit or stand or weather to smile or no and this lady did not even guide me with anything at all and I was in a rush so needed the photo emailed to me rather than hard copies (which would have been more beneficial avenue for them as they would have saved paper, ink & time) but no these sort of smart services are available only at an extra cost, which is so unfair"
"Ridiculous service"
Worst business ever in Australia. “Poor Customer Service, Low Quality and Expensive Service“ My story: I needed for a passport sized photo on early June this year. So I went to this shop. First of all, the lady with glasses downstairs was sooo rude and had very poor customer service and zero respect to customers. She took me a first photo, but didn’t ask for my opinion, so I asked her to show me the photo she just took, she wasn’t happy at all and looked at me like I’m not allowed to ask. Therefore, I asked her to take another shot, she got shocked like it’s wrong to ask for that. On the other hand, they charged me $18 for only a passport photo which’s hell too expensive. On above that, when I went back to pick up the photos, they were in very very bad quality, any beginner photographer had to take much better ones, and they call themselves “Camera House”. One more thing, after I accepted the poor quality photos, I asked the lady upstairs to send them to my email, guess what !! She asked me for another $10 for only emailing the photos !! Are you serious !!!!!!!!! I felt I’ll be silly and scammed if I pay them for that ! I took my photos and unfortunately never used them, and I used old photos instead. Stay Away From This Business !!!!
A pretty great photography/filmography store as part of the Camera House chain! It's conveniently located in the prime real estate of the Elizabeth St Mall and is mobility friendly with a fairly level shopfront and no ledges/steps to access the store. Their staff can quickly assessment much you know what you're talking about and adapt their customer service to suit and are willing to give advice provided you show interest in making a purchase. While you may pay are for their products being a brick and mortar specialist store, I feel that the service and range are worth it. They may not have ZipPay in the store but they can organise for collection in the store on the day if you process your ZipPayment through Camera House's online store. Definitely a great place to go for image capturing equipment/gear!
The staff (I dealt with Michael) and service at Stallards are second to none. Having tried for weeks to get a particular item on the mainland, I was delighted to find they had it in stock. I was because of this transaction that I returned to buy more items and again could not have had a better experience. Whether you live in Tassie or on the mainland, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better place to shop. Did I mention the service? OUTSTANDING in every respect. They will be my go to store for anything related to cameras and I would highly recommend them to anyone. This is a business that genuinely values their customers. Thanks so much for everything. It has been an absolute pleasure and I hope Canon appreciate you as much as I do.

Ridiculous service. I paid $33 for taking passport photo. They only send me very very low solution one, and refuse to give me high level quality photo. The reason is low solution is enough for my passport. What a interesting reason. And I said I want to print in office work so I need the high solution one. They said I can print in their store, but the price is too high. And I asked to talk to their manger, they said manage was on phone and cannot talk to me. Never come to this store any more, terrible! I will rate 0 if I can.
We visited this store and were served by Reewaj. It was the best customer service I have received in a very long time. Reewaj’s knowledge and recommendations are second to none. You can tell, it’s more important to him to actually help someone than make a sale. He went out of his way to help us sooo much. We walked in the shop not knowing much at all about cameras and walked out feeling like we had our minds around everything to do with our needs. If you go to this shop highly recommend dealing with Reewaj!
From Brisbane, travelling Tasmania. Urgently needed a replacement DJI drone part. While all other competitors had up to 2 weeks shipping (as the part needed to come from the mainland), Michael from Camera House arranged next day in store delivery at no extra cost. He rang me twice in 24 hours to keep me updated. Can't remember the last time I ever received such fantastic retail service. Friendly, helpful, exceptional service Michael, you're a real credit to the business!
Customer service went above and beyond, the young sales guy with a beard was so helpful. They didn't have the product I wanted in stock, so he called their stockists in order to confirm when the shipment would arrive by as I was in a hurry. When the product turned out to be unavailable, he apologised profusely and went on to suggest multiple other businesses where I may be able to purchase it. He seemed very knowledgeable about the products and the industry in general.
The staff are quite helpful when you engage with them and very honest in my experience. As for cameras and lenses they are very competitive, if your getting it much cheaper chances are it's a grey import with no warranty. Other accessories are more expensive but that is the importers fault who has the agency rights to import it and not the store. I will be buying another new lens soon as I can't find cheaper elsewhere unless its a grey import
On the Hobart page of your website it says you do "camera repairs" so I brought my camera to the store to see if I could get it repaired. Turns out you only repair cameras under warranty. I wished your website was actually accurate and stated that. Even your staff agreed that it was misleading and had apparently requested it be changed more than once. Thanks for wasting my time and money visiting your store, won't be going back anytime soon.
Camera house is great if you need something urgent and can't wait days for online orders, but worst when you compare the price with other major resellers. Many resellers have some great discount and offer price match or at least make the effort to match as much as they could, but camera house price match is not even close. So unless I need it asap or need to try out something before purchasing online, Camera House is a no go for me.
such friendly staff and they were really helpful. i cam in to develop film and my camera was a bit rooted, but the staff member alix helped me out so much and was able to develop my film in the same week. such surprisingly fast service. the way to access the actual digital prints through was a bit tedious and complicated, but it won’t stop me from having film developed there. thank you so much, i loved my prints :)
Thank you so much! Travelling from Melbourne and had my camera not turning on. Whole team was super helpful and helped diagnose the issue as well as offering to charge my battery. I then purchased a camera strap and the very helpful team helped set my strap up (which otherwise may have been very complicated to do by myself) for me! Thanks guys! Definitely deserve the 5 star review :)
Always a pleasure heading into Camera House Hobart! I first went in thinking I knew exactly what I wanted, ended up switching to a different camera and lens kit (due to employee adevice) and could not be more pleased with my purchase! The customer service and product honesty is unmatched, I know I’ll walk out with the best possible option for my budget and requirements every time ☺️
My passport photo got refused. I now need to drive a long way for just redoing again. I remember the person who took my photo double check with me about where I’m from and asked me to take all my ear rings off just in case. I thought I could trust him, I didn’t check after I got the actual photo until the embassy refused to use it as my head is too big in the photo.
Sent an email to this store several weeks ago. Wanted to buy a camera, tripod and lens to the value of around $7000. Never received a response. I suspect having a monopoly in the southern Tasmanian market means they’re less interested in good customer service. But these days, it is just as easy to buy from the internet or ship from the mainland. I’ll do just that.
I went in to look at a Sony camera that came with a kit lens. They only had one of the model I was after in stock. The lens had an obvious scratch and ding on the body, and the staff member tried to tell me it could have been a design feature?!?!? Either he thought I was a complete idiot or he was actually clueless, either way, not a great experience.
What a ridiculous place calls itself "Camera House",if they won't even process basic Cine Still b&w film. Lady at the counter told me I can go somewhere else or do it by myself! Well, thank you,I know I can do it by myself, but I came to your shop to have it done, that's usually the point of going and asking for something to be done. Rude and useless.
Fantastic service. My friend and I were visiting from Brisbane and wanted to print and frame 2 photos as a gift for our friend. They helped us with the whole process, regarding size and pixels, and were very happy to frame them once printed. Our friend loved the gift and we were very grateful for this stores professional assistance.
I brought my disposable film camera to be developed here and a week later got sent a link to someone else's photos. I immediately replied to the email and got no response until I called in the day after. The staff are lovely and helpful but I am cautious about getting film developed here in the future because of this mix-up.
On a cold and windy day in Hobart we were shown the pros and cons for 2 fieldscopes outside the shop. An excellent demonstration allowed us to understand the limitations of each scope. It was a professional and informative experience leaving us confident with our purchase. Thank you for providing such an excellent service.
Just had the worse ever experience there by none other than the grumpy owner himself. If you like rudeness and aggression, get grumpy bum to serve you. He delivers his conceited manner to a tee. A REAL PITY. His staff are so good. They are helpful and understanding. Sorry about the one star rating, its too much
We came to Camera House in Hobart and were served by Simon. He was informative and professional and we purchased our first camera off him for our 15 day trip around Tasmania. We have been back a few times to print out some of our memories with continuing support! Thanks team highly recommended.
There are a couple of friendly and knowledgeable staff but their inability to price match other Australian retailers is absurd. They often can't even come close to the stores who have stock or offer reasonable in-between. Unless you need something urgently I'd go elsewhere.
I went to buy Tamron SP 24-70mm f2.8 Nikon mount, charged me $1299 but later when i check in market its price was below $1000. I frlt way high price. Customer service was good only the item price was way too high. I already bought it but felt realy bad the price i paid.
Appaling service. The generally low rating says it all. I bought film for a traditional 35mm and asked to be shown how to install the film. They refused saying they didn't know how to do it. My advice: go in. Find what you want and get it elsewhere or online.
I really enjoyed the service that I was provided upon arriving at this store. With no idea what cameras were like I was taught a great deal about them. Even if you are someone who knows what they want or someone who doesn't. Camera house will hook you up! :D
Their stock range is great but the customer service is very lacking. It only takes a second to say, “I won’t be a moment”, so at least your customer feels acknowledged instead of intentionally ignored. I feel like the staff have no motivation or enthusiasm.
Staff who took the photo for my passport didn't seem really interested by the task or customer service generally. Just took one photo and didn't show it to me to check if I was ok with it. I understand previous reviews now.
Good passport photos (but processing takes 20-30 mins). Camera store is definitely the best in Hobart. While some staff are enthusiasts who are amazing, others are less so: if you don't like the service, try someone else.
I decided to buy some GoPro 8 equipment recently and because l understand the value of personal customer service, l wanted to spend my money locally. Mark Stallard and Michael could not be more helpful..and courteous....
Went in to look at the newly released Sony a7rIII. "Yes sir, we have one, it's in that box" Can I look at it? "Oh no sir, we aren't taking it out of the box" Absolutely clueless, that is not the way to sell a camera!
I had the best experience in Camera House in Hobart. Mike and Alex were simply superb. Expert knowledge and friendly service. I will happily spend more money with these guys. I’ll be back! Highly recommended. Cheers.
Looks like reviews have been bought after being there physically just to take passport size photo for our son. Very bad customer service experience don't know if it was because of our asian background.
All three people I spoke to today were very helpful and friendly. They really took the time to make sure I had what I wanted despite the fact they were pretty busy (lead up to xmas). Thanks guys!
Rude and condescending Zero customer service. The way he recoiled when I leaned to see how something works ( and screamed get away from me !!!! ) and blamed it on “ Covid “ .. . …
I was delighted to discover that I can get my prints in matte finish and with a border, very professional looking. The staff were also very helpful and friendly. Lovely experience overall.
I was after a memory card and 2 photo frames, I left with nothing and felt as though I had inconvenienced the girl that “served” me. Unfortunately, I won’t be visiting this store again.
Perhaps try adjusting your opening hours online, so people don't make the pointless journey all the way to your store, only to find it closed. It would literally take you one minute.
Mike went above and beyond to help me with a warranty return on a camera I purchased here. Much appreciated! You can really trust that this store will take care of you as a customer.
They charged me full price for a used display camera They won’t refund my purchase or offer store credit Customer service is rude and not helpful at all Do not shop here!
Staff were nice enough but quite flustered and didnt seem to be having a good day, had a bit of a wait time but had my photos printed within 30 mins which was great.
An extraordinarily helpful guy helped me out with a sensor issue and have me lots of advice and time. Helpfull and patient workout any of the hard sell. Excellent.
Lovely female staff member was able to find the issue with my SD card & camera setting & fixed both with an understanding smile & good humour. Forever thankful.
Different staff tell you different things. No one takes responsibility. Rude on top of this. If not entirely desperate, go to someone who deserves your money.
Took 3 rolls of film got them developed ended up paying 300 bucks seems a tad bit high yehh never got the email with the pictures that came with the package
I just needed a charger but the customer service was superb and very helpful. If only more shops had sales assistants with this amount of professionalism!
The printing service becomes unavailable 30 min before the closing time which was also not mentioned by the polite staff during the call yesterday.
Great location and a massive selection. They had exactly what filter I was after. Service was excellent and even helped out with some directions.
Nice store with lots of camera options and friendly staff. The place also can take passport photos of various different country requirements.
The team at Stallards have always been super helpful and friendly. Photo printing is affordable and they always provide a fast turnaround.
A great selection of camera gear with photo printing on site. Staff know thier products and the price can be matched....most of the time.
Excellent service and a good chat to one of the guys there. He was very well informed and very helpful. Thank you very much
very fast and reliable service, always willing to explain what part of the process they are up to, great company
Had to order what I wanted. But it arrived in a decent time and I was contacted immediately. Staff pleasant.
Helpful and enthusiastic, Stallard's is one of the few places you can still buy camera film in Hobart.
Mike was a great help with sorting out a warranty issue I had with my compact, polite and friendly. :)
Good selection of gear but more importantly awesome staff. Huge thanks to Mike for his time & advice
Staff were helpful, responsive to my emails, and prices of items were generally pretty competitive.
spent $1600 on a Nikon.....not bad service but yeah...was ok..... mebbe I shoulda bought online
This shop is incredible for its range and helpfulness! I would highly recommend it to anyone.
Best experience ever. So helpful went above and beyond. Super helpful. Highly recommend.
So expensive, often 20% higher than the manufacturers recommended retail price. Obscene.
Terrible customer service, overpriced products, just don't waste time and money here!
Great service and fantastic up to date products; helpful and knowledgeable.
An amazing place to go if you want a 50% markup on rrp for the same product
Just wanna say the guy with purple hair has 10/10 customer service skills
I bought a Canon camera, SD card, and case, and photo frames, $865.
Friendly, helpful team. Got the bits and bobs needed. Easy to find.
Don't bother. I went in twice and waited. Was ignored both times.
Excellent for printing / downloading / etc. your holiday photos.
Worst customer service ever. Would not recommend this store.
Excellent service from knowledgeable and helpful staff.
Excellent service Great products and awesome selection
Can't fault these guys. Knowledge and a huge help
Got 110 film developed, they came out great.
Expensive you better buy online and save $$$
Great service with good gear!
Very poor service
