Probably the most detailed review you will get and the most insightful. Let’s start with our background. We are RV campers. We have traveled all over the U.S. and live in San Diego. This is not the first visit we have had to Campland but certainly the last. Reservations: We made reservations for our spot a last Labor Day weekend for this year. We picked our spot mainly because of availability. We ended up in one of the worst/best spots available depending on how you look at it. The best because we got great neighbors. The worst because there is literally no space and we happened to be right on the main entrance driveway so we had like a million people passing all day. That usually wouldn’t be a problem since we like to people watch but the problem was exactly the type of people this camp pulls in now. Trashy to say the least. A few years ago it was a very family friendly place with plenty of kids activities. Now it caters to drunks, pot smokers, underage drinking and driving and seriously bottom of the barrel crowd. Rentals: This place offers RV rentals. You know the kind that set up everything for you and you go spend a weekend and then leave. That attracts people who regularly could not afford to be campers, unfortunately a lot of those people are rude, disrespectful, binge drinkers who think it’s cool to let their kids ride all day on their bikes without helmets and with no regard to cars, property or even people crossing the street. We almost ran over 3 kids on our first day. We were sober and going way slower than the speed limit. Underage drinking and driving: This is something you will read a lot about on here. I think it is a real security concern but I saw plenty of 14-15 year olds drunk to the point of vomiting and driving rental golf carts while blasting music full of profanity. I don’t scare easily but I am being detailed so you get the full picture of our stay. The camp sites: 1 word - horrible! Besides the fact that Campland has the beautiful views of San Diego Mission Bay that is the only thing they have going! They allow multiple vehicles to be parked at each campsite. If you walked around, Campland looks like a junkyard. More cars than anything else. No room for much on our site, that’s for sure. We did notice some sites had a little more room but still not worth the hassle. Security: definitely worthless. We had security escort us to find a parking spot for our guest parking which was just my other vehicle. The following day we passed by to see it being hit by another car that had shimmied in between my car and another car. They decided just to leave it parked that way. When we called security, they said they went to the persons campsite and that they said that the car belonged to no one from that site, even though every vehicle that goes into Campland has to be checked in. They just chose to do nothing about it. We had to call the SDPD to come write a report for us. Afterwards, the security was told by SDPD to give us a parking spot on an empty site because of the hassle, the security refused. Thankfully the SDPD pressured them to give us a parking spot. The following night our RV window was broken by teens lighting of fireworks next to our campsite, we didn’t even bother to report it as by the way they handled the parking situation, nothing was going to be done. Quiet Hours: It’s a joke. No one respects quiet hours. I am usually all for longer hours on the weekends. I was happy to see 11pm was quiet time however when at 2am you are hearing teens driving around drunk, blasting music, and zipping by the campsites super fast, it gets annoying fast. Public Intoxication: Trashy people left and right. We had to report a man passed out in the bushes that some teens were recording and were asking if he was alive. He had to be picked up off the bushes by a few security guards. Dog Poop: We have two dogs that stayed with us. We love dogs. We hate people who leave their dog poop all over the place. We actually called someone out on it and they just kept walking. 0 stars if your a real camper.

If you want to camp in the middle of a beach party, this may be your thing. If you want to experience the beauty of the California coast, don't come here. Expect absolute pandemonium of golf carts, scooters, kids on bikes, ... ripping around with no regard to speed, other traffic, or other people. I was cut off several times while I was trying to back my trailer into a campsite. Yes, really. "Grownups" and kids alike were evidently oblivious to someone backing a trailer. One real gripe is that we paid for a "bay view" site, but there was a bunch of brush behind our site so we really couldn't see the bay unless we sat in the neighbor's site. Site quality: It's basically a parking lot with hookups. The utility connections were all decent quality. The sewer connection was up at the front of the site, so a 20' hose barely reached it. The site was narrow. There was enough asphalt to park on, and the remaining 10' of site was dirt. Our awning nearly touched the back of the neighboring camper. Noise and congestion: quiet time doesn't start until 11:00 PM and then is not enforced. There were several families near us that all partied together. Whooping, hollering, beer drinking, swearing, and loud games started by midmorning and ran late late late. That seemed to be the norm throughout the campground. There are a lot of regulars that have a lot of toys, and with the limited space those toys stack up in the roadway and make navigation with a trailer tricky. We came in about 3:00 and by that time the drinking was well underway, which may have contributed to people's oblivion around me trying to back a trailer. With such reckless disregard for safety, it's a matter of time before someone gets hurt badly. Amenities: The laundry facility is excellent. There are plenty of washers and dryers that are well maintained. The campground WiFi is not too bad except in the evenings when it gets pretty slow. We didn't look at the market and cantina. Would we stay there again? No. I wouldn't stay there even if someone else was paying for it.

My experience with Ranger Connie left me extremely dissatisfied. While I understand that park rangers often have to handle challenging situations, her approach was far from what one would expect in a position of authority and responsibility. Connie's lack of de-escalation skills was evident from the moment our interaction began. Instead of attempting to diffuse tense situations, she seemed to exacerbate them with her overly aggressive demeanor. Respect is a two-way street, and it was disappointing to see Connie fail to reciprocate the respect she should have received in return. It became evident during our encounter that Connie was on a power trip. Her actions and words conveyed a sense of entitlement and a desire to assert authority for its own sake. This approach only served to create unnecessary tension and frustration. As someone who values respectful and professional interactions, I found my encounter with Connie to be highly unpleasant. It's crucial for individuals in roles like hers to not only enforce rules and regulations but also to do so in a manner that fosters a positive and cooperative atmosphere. Unfortunately, Connie's behavior fell short of these expectations. In the future, I hope Ranger Connie can take the time to develop better communication and de-escalation skills, as this would greatly benefit both visitors to the park and her own professional growth. A more respectful and considerate approach would undoubtedly lead to a more enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

I loved Campland at the Bay. It will not be for everyone as it is VERY busy, bustling place. It is a party everyday and into late night. If you are looking for quiet it isn't the place. If you want tons of activities for kids, bands a few nights a week, a bustling bar/cafe, and people jamming music you will love it. For example 3-4 RVs next to us (5ft away)had a Karaoke contest going still at 11pm when I went to sleep 1st night. No idea how late they went as RV AC drowned the noise out. Still they were having a blast! The Bay beach is public, but basically just for campers and every inch will be in use Everyone anchors inflatable or foam pool/lake floaties and kids just play on all of it collectively. If you don't like that idea I'd say don't bring a floaty to anchor. The Bay water is calm, 10 degrees warmer than ocean and perfect for 2-7 yr old kids. Olders can enjoy but it isn't a boogie/surf board beach, no waves to play in. Jetski, stand up paddle boards are most common for older kids and adults. We rented a jet ski and it was a blast on the Bay. Again I love this place but expect a 4th of July block party atmosphere! Non stop people on scooters, bikes and skateboards, and even impromptu bike parades at night with 100 people on led lighted bikes. It is a great time but not for peace and quiet. If you want that go to the KOA in Chula Vista.

Actually, they need to upgrade the restroom's. Handicap accessibility would be wonderful! Thank you. Our campsite was away from the handicap restroom up front by the arcade. So I had to use the one across from our site, which was very nice, but my wheelchair doesn't fit in the stalls. I had to leave it sticking out of the door. Hop to the toilet, grabbing on to the top of the toilet paper holder and toilet seat. (I have one leg.) I have to keep the door open. No privacy. I would wait for the last stall to try to stay out of the way. That restroom is next to the pool....so the floor was constantly wet & slippery! Very scary for me. The sink is high and the mirror is for standing people. I would have to balance on one leg to brush my teeth and wash my face every morning. I thought I would elaborate because the RV we're in is older and I can't have my W-chair inside. And I can't reach the bathroom inside. I have to use the public restroom. Again....thank you. My relatives have been going to Campland on the Bay for years. This was my 6th year coming along. I'm not going next year. It's too difficult for me. I know somewhere there is a handicap shower. But.....we don't have enough room to drag my shower bench along. I have to ask for help and I'm a burden. Okay. THANK YOU AGAIN.

I recently had the pleasure of camping at Campland and I must say, it was the best camping experience I've had with my family. From the amenities to the activities and the on-site restaurant, Campland had everything we needed for a relaxing and enjoyable trip. As soon as we arrived at Campland, we were struck by the well-maintained grounds and the friendly staff. They made us feel welcome and were happy to answer any questions we had. We were also impressed by the wide range of amenities available, including swimming pools, playgrounds, and more. The activities at Campland were a highlight of the trip. There was something for everyone, from fishing and hiking to arts and crafts and organized sports. My kids had a great time participating in these activities and made new friends along the way. But the amenities and activities weren't the only highlights of our trip. The on-site restaurant was a great convenience, with delicious food and a friendly staff. We enjoyed meals there a few times during our stay and were always pleased with the quality and service. Overall, I am extremely impressed with Campland and will definitely be returning for more camping trips in the future. If you're looking for a great place to camp with your family, I highly recommend giving Campland a try. It's sure to become one of your new favorites!

Campland is a great place to relax for the summer. We spend a week here each summer and have a lot of fun. It is a very family-friendly resort. The resort has a lot of activities, or if you are like my family, we go to different places around the area or hang out at the beach. (Sea World, Legoland, ETC. ) This is a camping resort. They offer spaces for RVs and tents. We rent a trailer from one of the local companies. If you choose to do the same, make sure you find out what will come with the trailer. We really appreciate STAT RV Rentals. Super friendly. However, the trailers are bare-bones. You need to bring everything except the bottom sheets on the mattresses. On the other hand, Stessfree RV has been anything but for our fellow campers. The resort, being on the bay, has a waveless beach with great sand. If you prefer, there are a couple of pools. There is a store for almost anything you might need, although it is a little more expensive. Other things are an arcade, a laundromat, bar, restaurant, skate park, jetskis, paddle boards, horseshoes, and basketball courts. There are also mini concerts Friday and Saturday nights. As a final note, you will need to make a reservation if you want to stay, as spaces can go fast.

Loved this place and will be coming back! We did tent camping at the primitive area and I must warn you will be camping on asphalt which makes staking your canopy and tent very difficult. The camping spot came with a picnic table and a fire pit and conveniently near bathroom. This place is full of kids and families so for the adult only crowd this place can get a bit of an adjustment but we still had a blast. The pool area was crowded and we had a hard time getting chairs and a table. The amenities are the best part and every place is so clean! The cantina was a great spot to hang and there entertainment was outstanding with a live band and humongous stage and lawn area. We brought about and purchased a slip to rent out for a few days. They have plenty of parking must get there early if you have a boat trailer and want to get a good spot for parking. Overall we had an amazing time and I am booking again before the end of the hot days here in San Diego. We will be coming back.

This was our second time visiting Campland. We love the location, all of the amenities, and the staff. The pools are nice, the cantina offers a lot of food and drinks, there are scheduled things to do and lots of grass to play on. We did plenty of walking around and rented a pedal boat. The one thing I would recommend is pay the extra price for the preferred sites or better, and pay the fee to select your site. We made the mistake of not selecting our site (didn't know we could do so until after the fact) and we're bummed we didn't get a better spot. Lesson learned and we will be booking way in advance next time to select a great spot, as yes we will definitely be returning!

This place has turned into a complete joke. The owners care NOTHING about making a pleasant camping experience for your FAMILY. all they care about is filling their pocket book by increasing site rent by 50% from last year.. and catering to a crowd of OUT OF CONTROL 20 yr Olds that can't handle their beer and are out of control. They recently bought out Mission Bay RV also.. which used to be a quiet and safe spot for your kids. Now.. they quadrupled the amount of sites available on that side.. and doubled the space rent.. all while cramming everyone on the SAME SMALL STRETCH of beach available. Do yourself a favor.. camp at San Elijo. CARLSBAD. SILVER STRAND.. ETC. DO NOT GIVE YOUR BUSINESS TO THESE UNETHICAL GREEDY OWNERS.

This is a 100% honest review based on the past week. Bathrooms - clean with showers available. Staff - for the most part friendly. Sites- OMG TIGHT!!. Most, other than tent sites, are basically a parking spot on asphalt. No grass at all. You can hear your neighbor sneeze next door. Amenities- If you have kids, they will love it. Basketball, skateboard park, field to run around in, beach, playground for Littles. Here is my MAJOR problem. Speed limit is 5mph. Kids on motorized skooters and golf carts are FLYING AROUND EVERYWHERE. They have no control over it. They come flying out of little ally ways near trash cans and have no regard for anyone around them. Tried walking at night, and they will not move as they speed your way! No seriously, they are doing 20 easily on these carts and mini bikes. Cantina/ Bar - fair price for what you get. Store- on site. Friendly people working. They have just about everything.

We love Campland! Our family has been coming here for 5 years! This campground has a little bit of crazy and a little bit of relaxation! Our kids enjoy running around with all the other campers to the various activities they offer. For example, the beach, the pool, organized dodgeball and so much more!! The adults have so many options too! We can enjoy a concert on the grass, hang out at the Cantina and even skip cooking for the night by ordering dinner for the family at the restaurant. The staff has always been very helpful and attentive. We especially love seeing Joe (security) every year! We are making family memories to enjoy for a lifetime! Thank you campland!

Campland was amazing. We stayed for Thanksgiving and just had the most favorite holiday ever! The employees are great. Big thanks to Kendra and Anaaleise (sp) Jay and the guys that work helping make sure everything is just right. What nice people. This is such a great family place to go camping and each site has just what you need. OH, the cleaning ladies for the restroom in D area were on it. That restroom was soooo clean. I really appreciate it. Thank you cleaning people for making our stay so great. Don't worry about food if you don't want to bring any because the cantina food is really good. The bar has great drinks and something for everyone. So glad there is an ice cream shop, general store, boats, and paddle boards to rent. It is so convenient! Campland is comfy and has all your needs:)

Went during the car show, staff is great, kids had a great time. As with campsites that have long term campers the unsupervised kids can be ferral. Group of teens picked on and threw rocks at a disabled elementary age kid, then tried to lie about it. The mom handled the teens, parents nowhere to be found. Perfect place if you're traveling with adults or kids that are old and mature enough to roam with a little independence. Bare minimum for long term camper's kids would be to have kids sign a behavior contract & leave discretion to the campsite to boot families who let their kids act out. Maybe parents would care if they faced actual consequences.

Been coming here since I was a child, the only way to camp. The amenities are amazing, bathrooms always clean and shower pressure is the best. Perfect for the whole family, with activities everyday of the week. Live shows, aquatic Rentals, skate park, laundry mat, arcade room, pool & spa, dog park & playground convenient store, ice cream shop and the best bar. Obviously the staff changes over the years and sad to see new faces instead of familiar ones. Yet we will always come back each year every summer. Also you can see the firework from sea world across the bay.

Service was great at Campland on the Bay. The lowest priced lots are run down and feels more like a parking lot. No privacy and the area is not well kept by guests. You are very close to your neighbors. I pride for an upgraded lot with a tiny bit more privacy but still very close to neighbors. No privacy hedges. Wi-Fi did not work for me. AT&T data was very slow as well which is not usual for me especially when in the heart of a major city. This place looks like a lot of fun for families with kids though as there are a lot of activities. For remote working nomads, not the best place.

I read some of the reviews before leaving one.. come on people. This is a very pretty campground. It is definitely more of an RV or camper place. There’s a playground, kids play, im happy they’re outside. I slept in a tent on top of my truck, and slept great! Everyone respected quiet hours. Lots of shade. The spots are somewhat close together, but every two spots where I am has a fence. My brother and I each rented a spot and got an entire corner to ourselves. Close to very clean and nice bathroom. If you want absolute quiet and no kids go camp in dispersed camping, you’ll have quiet and alone. I’ll be back!

NEVER AGAIN!! This place is way too crowded! Kids driving golf carts with no security. I saw a kid fall off and get dragged, he was screaming in the middle of the road. I was so scared my kid would get ran over. Do not bring your family here, there is way too many teenagers with no supervision. I saw underage drinking, a 13 year old being dragged back to his camper screaming "I'm drunk". Our campsite was very dirty with OIL stains all over. There are just better campsites out in SD. The staff was friendly that was the only good thing. Just a waste of my vacation. NEVER AGAIN

Until this trip one of my favorite places ever to camp. The park itself is fun and a great place. The staff are great and helpful. The part that saddens us is the class of people who come here around kids and smoke their marijuana around the kids. Also the amount of rude teens blaring music with profanity and driving around in their parents golf carts. They really need to ban the dope and low class that come here to wreck a family vacation. Also watch your kids. Lots of adults driving around drunk on golf carts here as well. The City really needs to have police on-site and enforce some laws here.

We come here for the location and access to swim in the bay, concerts at night, use of pool and playground for the kids. I do not like the layout. Some spaces are just too small and should be used for tent-only camping. Make sure you get the right size space. We didn't even have room to park after we dropped our trailer. Good thing we didn't bring our golf cart too on this last trip. Also, this place needs to have people remove their pop-ups from the beach. Pop-ups sit overnight and for many hours unoccupied taking beach real-estate. We just sat under an open one, because why not? Nobody was there

The best way I can describe this place after doing camping for years at other locations is that this is "Camping on Steroids". We took beach front locations and they are not cheap, prepare to spend 500+ a night plus we paid 25 extra per day for our golf cart pass. As good as it gets? Yes. Affordable? No. Will we come back? Absolutely. This is the "Disneyland" of camping. Fitting name yeah? "Campland".

All I can say is this place is LOUD and if you are in a tent don’t plan for sleep. Quiet hours are not a thing. Everyone is very crammed together like sardines. Barking dogs, loud music, screaming kids, packed spaces. However the staff is friendly and the place is kept clean. I would not call this camping. I’d call it tailgating. Can barely drive a car through as there are kids everywhere on scooters and golf carts and bikes - totally unsupervised- very concerning actually.

This place is not family friendly which explains the reason that they are in a fight for their very existence. Extremely poor customer relations (ask RANGER DAVE) and most of all, no loyalty. Been coming here spending boucoup $ for years only to be treated like red-headed step children. Oh and let me be sure to mention the murder that transpired a few months back on the hot tub. Went to the bar for a few beers, paid with a debit card only to find that they added a $25 tip that i did not authorize. You have been warned

FUN! Campland is full of family activities. From swimming, a kid park, dog park, skate park, arcade, gym, pools, live band, ice cream shop, a bar, and more. It is so much fun and worth the drive from Los Angeles. We look forward to it every year. We camp out on our tents, and that works just well for us. We witnessed numerous teenagers drunk, carrying alcohol containers around, to the point of throwing up!!! We watched a group of 5 boys and 1 girl drinking from a Sky Vodka bottle; these youths were about 14-16. A boy from this group later sported a weed pipe at the pool. Even our neighbor's teenagers all 3 got drunk. There was NO SECURITY patrolling! Parents seemed hands off. There were children racing in rented golf carts. This Place by their hands-off approach ENDANGERS CHILDREN!

Such a great camping park. In beautiful San Diego. They have good spots. Some have sewage, water, and electric. Others have half hook ups, depending on how you'll be camping (RV, Tent, ect...) Great atmosphere, friendly environment. Great for family's. Campland has been a place to hang out annually with family and friends. It's always clean and well maintained. Their staff is friendly and always go above and beyond. Having the bay to enjoy paddleboards, rafts, and swimming is a great plus. It allows for a safer environment for children from big waves. We visited some friends from out of town that stayed here. Camping spot had it's own firepit and picnic table. They paid extra but was able to get a slip for their boat. They had a nice pools and clean restrooms. Bought a couple things from The store there but was terribly overpriced and had no AC when we went in. Security at front gate. Within walking distance to food, bars and parks.

Great place with lots of activities. They have a market if you run out of something essential, and a restaurant on site if you don't feel like cooking at all. You can purchase firewood on site and there is full hookups available. Would recommend coming down during the week if you aren't a fan of people getting a bit wild at night.

Great service, friendly staff, and an awesome location. Lots of amenities (great Cantina, large laundry facility, well stocked general store, skate park, basketball court, pickleball court, ample restrooms and showers, right on the beach). My only complaint is that the RV spots can be a little tight, and most are asphalt only. This is a great place if you have kids or like lots of activity. We'll stay here again!

My kids have grown up at this what I call the Hilton of campgrounds. Nestled on mission Bay, a 5 to 10-minute bike ride to the Beach. Awesome family camping. On the weekends especially during the summer they have rock or country bands that come in and play. If you like camping and all you have to try this place

After reading some reviews about campsites being cramped and being too busy, we were kind of nervous about staying here. Idk if we got lucky or what but we had a WONDERFUL time! We loved all the amenities, being by the beach and all the fun events! We stayed in loop E which has an awesome view of the bay.

Our Campland experience was amazing, to say the least! They have different events and activities for the kids. The restrooms and showers are very clean. There are fireworks at 9 pm every night. We attended a DJ dancing festival, girls got LED lights on their scooters to ride at night and there are jet skis, boats, and paddle boards you can rent. You can also rent bikes!! QUITE HOURS ARE FROM 11PM- 7AM

After living in San Diego for 18yrs and having never camped at Campland on the Bay, I was pleasantly surprised by how awesome it was. Brought my kids to see where I spent so many years and got to enjoy paddle boarding & kayaking and the other activities offered there. The food was really good too. It felt like summer camp, but for your whole family. Definitely would do it again and recommend it to others.

You stayed here for about 2 weeks on our trip and our fifth wheel. It was a great place to stay. We definitely do it again. The only downside I'd say is noise. Other than that, the amenities are great. We especially love the pool and hot tub with our little one and the field games that they had.

This RV park is definitely for families! The amenities are great! There are tons of activities for kids. There is a restaurant, bar, store, ice cream shop, arcade, bike park, basketball court, and swimming platform. I would not recommend going here in the summer if you have no kids. It gets absolutely insane. In the off season it's much quieter and better for groups without kids.

Great place to get away and just relax. They have everything you need on site so you really don't have to leave once you get settled in until checking out. This is a family place so don't come here if you don't like being around kids or have problems letting other people be themselves. Everyone here is on vacation and expects to do just that, have fun and let loose.

Great place to do recreational drugs, You can even squat on unoccupied camp sites in the middle of the night to do so. Employees don't care. Not so great if you are a 12 year old who is exposed to second hand marijuana that is blown through the mesh of your window 2 feet away. Employees also refuse to state the camp ground policy for recreational drug use when asked directly.

Camplands intention to have multiple activities to enjoy is awesome. But the campground is way over crowded. Cars, Golfcarts, children on motorized scooters, and Golfcart on bicycles. I even saw a motorized love seat rolling around in the park. Loud music after hours. Very little security staff patrolling the grounds. The camp sites are very small.

This place was fine overall, but the lack of attention to the sea anemones in the fish tank in the office speaks to a larger problem. The anemones are huge, have taken over the tank and it is unsightly on check in or office visits, giving a generally uneasy feeling. If the fish tank was healthier and not completely overrun with overgrown anemones I would have more faith in the details of the sites

  • Victor Mier

Very disappointed !....it seems like every year some restroom areas are closed due to malfunction, and the manager either just don't care or they don't have enough staff to get it fix right away. This place has become expensive throughout the years, and we the customers/campers need more respect when it comes to a basic services like the restroom areas.

We stayed in the previously named Mission Bay RV Resort. It is a more calm, relaxing, family oriented RV campground. The original Campland is a crowded party zone enjoyed by many. Hopefully, as these two places merge, they will still maintain a calm section.
