The Canadian Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa is a true marvel that has captured the hearts of visitors from all walks of life. Boasting an impressive array of real-life aircraft and an unparalleled dedication to preserving Canada’s aviation and space history, this museum stands as a remarkable testament to the nation’s accomplishments and contributions in these fields. The museum’s collection of planes is nothing short of awe-inspiring. From iconic fighter jets to vintage aircraft that played pivotal roles in shaping Canadian history, each exhibit serves as a tangible link to the past. The meticulous restoration and preservation efforts are evident in every detail, allowing visitors to marvel at the engineering marvels that once graced the skies. What truly sets the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum apart is its ability to transport visitors through time. As you wander through the vast hangars, you’ll encounter aircraft that have played pivotal roles in defining Canada’s aviation legacy. The Avro Arrow, a symbol of technological innovation and ambition, commands attention and sparks conversations about Canada’s aerospace aspirations. The World War II aircraft collection provides a vivid glimpse into the courage and sacrifice of those who served, while the space exploration exhibits inspire wonder and fascination about humanity’s quest beyond our planet. The historical significance of each aircraft on display cannot be overstated. The museum has masterfully curated its collection to showcase key moments in Canadian aviation and space history. From the Silver Dart’s pioneering flight to the Canadarm’s vital role in space exploration, every exhibit tells a story of innovation, perseverance, and the indomitable spirit of the nation. It’s worth noting that the museum’s commitment to accessibility is truly commendable. The fact that the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum offers free admission during the last hour of opening is a wonderful initiative that ensures everyone has the opportunity to experience this treasure trove of history. This gesture speaks volumes about the museum’s dedication to sharing Canada’s aviation and space heritage with as many people as possible.

This museum is the perfect destination for anyone who has a fascination with aviation, aerospace and air technology. What sets this museum apart is its collection of real exponents. Visitors have the opportunity to get up close and personal with real planes and even sit inside some of them, which is an experience not to be missed. The museum is well-organized and provides a comprehensive learning experience with displays that cover the evolution of aircraft from its early prototypes to the latest space robots. The amount of information that is available is impressive, and you will leave the museum feeling much more knowledgeable about this fascinating subject. The free tour guide on-site is an excellent addition, and visitors can benefit from the museum staff's expertise and in-depth knowledge. This ensures a memorable visit, and it is a fantastic way to learn history in a fun and interactive way. Overall, the museum is an incredible experience and is suitable for people of all ages. You will never forget this memorable experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in aviation and space exploration.

This was an amazing trip for my young children and I. I’ve always been fascinated with aviation and even though I’ve watched so many documentaries over the years, seeing the planes in real life is priceless. Like I didn’t know a fighter jet was that huge! The exhibits are rich with history, very well documented with tons of interesting facts via with plaques and signs. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, they will even allow you to get into a few of the planes which was fun for the kiddos. To top it off, there is a whole section dedicated to Canada’s contribution to Space exploration (which was new to me), Go Chris Hadfield! I highly recommend going if you have kids, regardless of their interests. Oh, and you can do airplane and helicopter tours… but you have to book ahead of time. So we plan to visit again just for this! Had a great time, highly recommend. . Also pro tip for locals. If you’re from Ottawa or Eastern Ontario, you may request the museum pass from your local library for free entry for up to 2 adults + 2 kids!

This is a must go place for people who loves aircrafts. I love the way they have put all the aircrafts inside- well arranged. Also, an ideal place to take kid on weekends. You would probably require 2 hours to see and read through everything. But if you don’t wanna read all the texts, you can finish seeing everything in an hour. Apart from the defence and passenger aircrafts, they also have some videos and texts to read about space shuttles and effects of radiation in space on the second floor usually which a lot of people miss. When I booked tickets online, it was free between 4-5 pm on all days. And there were a lot of tickets available even just before the time. Otherwise it would cost 18 bucks plus tax for an adult. Students and seniors have special discounts here. There are 2 rides you can take here. One is the biplane and the other is helicopter ride. You can choose 20, 30 or 40 mins rides on these.

The Museum is an absolute treat for everyone who is even remotely interested in planes and fascinated by the journey of flight. Interesting Sections: 1) Role of Canadian Engineers especially Alexander Graham Bell in early development of planes. 2) Role of Canadian Aviation Industry in making important and critical planes like Avro Lancaster. 3) Some German planes developed Nazi Germany. They certainly were pro in designing and building aviation tech. 4) Illustration of of some space tech developed by Canadian Space Agency. They have another hangar attached to the Museum on opposite side of building. That is offered as an additional tour and extra fee. Couldn't't visit as tickets were sold out. But definitely wouldn't miss it next time. Restarted after Covid Times for first time in Feb 2023. Overall an absolute delight for any aviation geek.

A must visit for any Airplane fan. Spare 2 to 3 hours for your visit. Check their website for a free hour entry at end of certain days. Apart from the displays, you can also buy and experience real airplane & helicopter flights! From the oldest flying balloon to fighter jets & drones, there are many different planes on display. Many air plane engines, landing gear & other mechanicals are also on display. Space section is also very knowledgeable. You can see what astronauts eat & feel how heavy your hand feels in space. Location is also nice and reachable without hitting traffic. Parking is paid but cheap & plenty. And lastly the souvenoir shop will excite the kids like no other as it has plenty of planes to choose from. Overall, very nice experience.

Love going to the Aviation museum. This was our first visit with our 3yr old. Very kid friendly - has a small cafe with food and tables, bathroom with changing table, lots of space for Strollers and there were Strollers to lend. Exhibits very well done - description signs are updated and very nice; includes aviation art of various artists including Canadians. Easy to read info. A few exhibits you can sit in. Some interactive information walls that are too advanced for little one - better for older kids and adults. They have a huge section with wooden plan tricycles - this was fantastic. Also a back observation area where you can see the runway and planes taking off and landing. Parking on site, not free. Must do!

It's really wonderful to experience such a museum. A great platform to know and learn history and facts about aviation and space. Lots of planes and helicopters were exposed. Details of space exploration and expedition are given all around. Some fun activities and adventures are also there. You can also check for free entry days or hours. As I went in there on canada day, which is free for all. The only negative or suggestion from my sode is that an orientation is needed to guide people to see all things around. A navition or a path to let the people go around. It's a bunch of things kept in a big room. Each of us should make sure that we dont miss anything.

Awesome! We really enjoyed this. Up to this point Farm Boy was the highlight of our 6 night Ottawa vacation. This museum was great. . So much to see. We learned so much as we joined a tour with Oliver ( on Sunday). He really knew his stuff and his enthusiasm was contagious. He was very good. Everything on our visit was good. Refreshments, gift shop, the space exhibit, the planes and on and on. Next trip we may come back. Great place for children. And about one of the only places that was accessible by car as Ottawa seems to be construction, poor detours, traffic jams etc. even on Sunday. So we recommend a visit to the Aviation Museum for the whole family. Clean and accessible too.

Really well done museum dedicated to Canadian aviation with some rare and interesting aircraft. We saw planes from WWI that I never knew existed like a huge black German biplane bomber. The full size Lancaster bomber from WWII was a highlight and it’s always cool to be up close and personal with modern fighter planes like the CF-18. Even cooler for some is the chance to go up in a biplane or helicopter and cruise around the skies above the museum for a small fee. Definitely recommend this museum for all ages!

A really well setup museum in general. Ample paid parking onsite. Inside the space is quite modern and very clean. Great collection of aircraft with several cockpit exhibits to captivate the youngsters. The space section has some really terrific artifacts worth checking out. There are numerous interactive stations throughout the building, however quite a few of them are out of order completly or not working properly. This is the reason for just 4 stars. Food cafeteria onsite as well as a robust gift shop.

Parking was a pain cause the meters were covered up so we all had to do it on the app. What if I had no phone? Or data? Museum was so neat! Love the history and loved the collection of plane from the first one to the fighter jets of today. It's so incredible how much aviation has come. The space area was very well put together. I learned a lot! The picnic area was so nice. Although not enough garbages outside. And more hand sanitizers around near where it's high touch.

Very nice exhibits of planes and the space section is interesting!! Some of the interactive displays are still closed due to covid. They offer biplane ride for 40$ and everyday 4 to 5pm, the admission is free. You have to pre book the time slot even if it is free admission. The parking fee is 3$ for an hour and 8$ for full day. I think the parking revenue is there to support kids programming in the museum. Nice place to visit if you really love planes!!!

This was the museum I've ever been too, I absolutely loved all the aircrafts!! It was good to read about all the different aircrafts and their uses. The space part of the museum was super cool, we absolutely loved it. It was very informative and I loved reading about the Canadian space program. We got to go for a plane ride and my 3 month old daughter loved it as well, she was looking around. We flew over the Parliament building, the views from above Ottawa are incredible!! Thank you

This was an amazing visit for me and my friends. I have visited many aviation and space related museums and this visit was definitely up there with the top 5. I would highly recommend taking the guided tour of the other hanger as it lets you see so many fascinating things that would otherwise be hidden away in storage. I personally was amazed to see a nose section of the CF-105 Avro Arrow 2 and all the engines they had on display.

Fantastic destination for aviation enthusiasts. With a remarkable collection of aircraft and space artifacts, it offers a captivating journey through Canada's aviation history. The interactive exhibits and well-preserved planes provide an engaging experience for visitors of all ages The museum's dedication to showcasing the country's aerospace achievements makes it a must-visit for anyone interested in flight and space exploration. Free entry during the last hour.

We visited as a family with a little one. The little one found the planes on display fun to look at, but really enjoyed the runway observation area. We watched a student pilot do a bunch of touch-and-gos and the planes for the on-site tour vendor take off and land, which they really enjoyed. As locals, we find the membership to the three Ingenium museums a really good value.

Great for what it was. Reasonably priced. Not the largest aviation museum, but had a lot of great insight into the contributions Canada has made to aviation. They had a great kids program about mail delivery that was bilingual. They offer several options for aerial tours of the capital to include biplane rides starting at $95/person for 15-20 min.

A fantastic venue with amazing aircraft and other things to do with aviation. The different sections of the air museum were superb including world war 2 aircraft and modern combat aircraft. My favourite was the section of the Avro Lancaster bomber where you could the radio operator's seat and the pilot's seats.bThe space exhibition was outstanding and I particularly loved all the mission badges belonging to all the astronauts

Great little museum but it's more a aviation than space. Appreciate the 4pm free admission at the end of the day. And of course a tribute to the Avro Arrow. The Iroquois engine and the front piece of the RL. Oh how Canada's history would have changed had they built rather than scrapped the plane. What a shame...

We took advantage of free admission hour. This museum is very well organized and relatively easy to find stuff, and not get lost. Overwhelmed by the amount and types of air planes from different time periods. I was excited to speak to one of the staff who was on site with displayed WWI artifacts and explained the different items. I would return to explore further what this museum has to offer.

  • Hannah Boughton

Absolutely amazing time! Unfortunately I read some other reviews that stated it would take 2-3 hours to do the entire museum and we didn't even finish the first floor. So heads up if you actually read everything and want to discuss and learn, I'd plan this museum for a day. We can't wait to go back!

We had so much at this place. It was a great experience for all of us. My husband tried the red simulator flight for addition $20 on top of our admission but it was for 15min flight and he said it was worth it. The place is huge and a lot of interesting planes to see. I personally love their little space museum area as I've learned a lot of interesting facts about life in space.

Great place to visit for adults and kids. We came on a Sunday and there is a presentation for children at 11am where they can dress up as astronauts and pretend to go to space. Fantastic exhibits and very clean. Not busy at all. Paid parking $8 for the day, but you wont likely need all day to go through the museum.

First time back since the pandemic. It felt really good. Our 4 year old was so excited to see all the planes. We were happy to be able to do it safely. Masking was mandatory and upheld. This is one of my favourite museums, and I love the space you get to experience the artifacts in. It's spacious and the aircraft are beautiful to see. Love the aircrafts, their history and generally the museum, not too crazy on this year layout! Too much space between the exhibits. By the way, parking fees are outrageous, make it free, you'll probably attract more customers, and do not increase the entry fee to make up for the free parking. More

On the airport side of the museum you never know what you'll see, like a Sikorsky CH-148 Cyclone. The museum itself is great for kids of all ages.

Awesome place! Kept the history of flights in order to show the evolution. Most amazing part was the space section. Not very kid worthy though. But still if your kid likes plane or space this is a place you can go and enjoy.

Great museum for people who want to understand aviation and space exploration better and for those who love helicopter / airplane rides! ( if you purchase a helicopter ride the tickets to the museum are free!) More

It was an awesome experience at the Aviation museum. Next time would like to take a flight in one of those Cessna's. Kids loved it. Due to COVID some parts were closed but all together a wonderful experience. More

A great place to view the history of planes and some space travel. Unfortunately, in August 2022 many interactive displays didn’t work properly or were closed. So not very interesting for kids aged 5-11.

Really enjoyed seeing all of the planes and aviation equipment. It's a great time to go if you're into planes, engineering, or seeing the kinds of tin cans people were willing to get into and fly.

  • Fay Cheung

Wide range of aircraft on display. Very informative and friendly guides. Unique aircraft in collection as well.

Had a great time here. Spent around 3 hours checking everything out. Could easily spend an extra couple hours listening to all the audio information and trying the interactive games/menus. More

Decent museum, thankful that they have free admission on Canada Day. Not sure if I’d pay regular price for what there is. It would also be nice if they had more space to sit, rest and eat.
