I’ve lived so close to this park for years and just this year I discovered it and by mistake.. It’s a nice park to go for a walk, a run, a bike ride, or just to go and sit and breath for a little. However during the night time it doesn’t look nor feel safe during night time. I prefer to go on walks during night time to clear my head and take a minute to breath but this park and the neighborhood seems a little too dark for my liking. I went recently and it was just guys and it was dark, I didn’t even last a minute in the park because I didn’t feel safe. But during the day it’s definitely a good place to go and exercise or relax in.
The park is named for Captain George H. Tilly, a local son of a prominent family who was killed in action in the Philippines while serving in the Spanish—American War, and a monument to the war is prominent in the park. Captain Tilly Park is a place where you can hear the laughter of children, see wildlife, or a quiet moment of meditation and reflection. The 9-acre park is mostly woodland, as passersby can sit or bike alongside Goose Pond and spot turtles, ducks, and fish. The park is also home to a children's play area, with game tables, swings for tots and young children, and play equipment shaped like the prow of a boat.
I love the park but the pond is so dirty i worry about the children who play near the pond which should be dredged..its a very busy pretty park but there should be more signs don't feed the animals (pigeons) people drop their leftover rice thinking they are doing a good thing ... Fines for littering and more clean up teams coming in. Its the only close place for locals to go on warm evenings. The smell of marijuana coming from upper areas also is not good for kids. .much good has been done in this great park but continued attention is needed.
Been here a few times w/ friends, it makes for a pretty chill place for hanging out. There are benches and a playground to either play or sit down at. During the winter months it gets awfully chilly (obviously) and can be very windy, so heads up for that. In the spring, it can rather cool. At the playground, there is small table like structures, which can used for picnics.. but beware of litterers. Overall.. a decent place to visit, it has a nice lake with geese, mallards, and other kinds of wild-life.
Beautiful- Peaceful- Clean- Natural Lots of Ducks and would be returning more often. Learnt about this park via the New York Parks Facebook Page and didn’t know it was just a nice walk from my home 15 minutes away. So I had to make time to visit and glad I did. Love it and took some beautiful photos and had to share as well. Hope the NYC parks continue to upkeep this little cozy park well for the community and same with the public when visiting. All the ducks is a staple of this park !
Nice place to unwind. Right in Jamaica queens. Children's play area, big pond, a lot of options for sitting down...fixed seats, grassy areas, sometimes pieces of log. There are some good paths that you can walk or run on. The restroom is handy but they seem to be renovating it so it's unavailable right now. Some intriguing memorials also..reflecting a usa in different political circumstances. Some day I will do the research.
The park is beautiful by day and beautiful by night. This park is pretty much apart of my childhood, constantly going here when I was younger with my mom. Sometimes me and a friend go here and most notably Halloween of 2020 was the first time I had gone here at night. It's beautiful and truly this park is iconic because of the duck pond, that's what makes it different than any other park.
So nice. Except some people were a little rude while I was trying to find a secluded spot to train my service animal in and people kept interrupting. Dog is clearly marked to not disturb. Other than that it is a beautiful park with a very quaint looking duck pond. Lots of benches around and it does have a men and women's room. It also has poop bags for your dogs near the entrance.
I like that the park is small and hidden with lush trees so that neighborhood people can enjoy their moments with nature. However, the park's pond has always been dirty ever since I was a kid. I really think that they should clean out the algae from the water because it may lead to harm to the environment around it including the many animals that live there.
We love to be in the playground with my daughter's and to bring our beautiful bunny to run in the grass and eat like is not tomorrow. The neighbors are super friendly and families love to be here sitting with their kids running around making New friends. Good to enjoy a beautiful afternoon just dont forget you mosquito repellent.
Little neighborhood park with amazing landscaping. A little pond with beautiful wild goose and ducks. Lots of birds & busy squirrels everywhere. Cozy kids playground and ample bench seats around the pond. Its become crowded sometimes but u will find ur space there anyway. & the view of majestic building of Jamaica high cant be missed.
Very nice Park. Relaxing path for walking. Bathroom under construction right now. There is a portapotty. There is a pond and a kid play ground area. Not much else. This is a relaxation park primarily.
Playground
Small playground for very young children.
Restrooms
Under construction. Only a portable toilet available.
Great little gem of a park with a pond (Goose Pond), a playground, restroom, and a tree lined path. It does get very crowded at times and lately there has been a lot of littering. Like big piles of garbage at times. There are not enough garbage receptivas along the walking path. Otherwise it’s lovely!
Good place to walk in the neighborhood but the pond is kind of dirty & bathrooms too. I usually used a park for a shortcut on bike .Now Horses are hard to find in Queens thats five years ago pic. There are many beautiful parks in NYC so if you don’t live nearby then it won’t be a wise place to visit.
The pond in the park is not good, the water looks very bad in the summer and in the winter it becomes a safety hazard for kids because they try to go on the Frozen pond water. There are many seats in the park by the way but the public restroom is dreadfully dirty and not properly maintained.
Neighborhood (like others in NYC). Homeless Residents sleeping consistently. Jamaica HS is adjacent to park but students aren't much of a problem like years ago. Police Presence is sporadic but are visible. It's kept fairly clean by Park Workers. It's a Neighborhood Park at its best.
Park is serene but it definitely needs to be cleaned. The pond looked very dirty. There are dismantled ac units, beer bottles, garbage strewn & dicarded in the bushes. The squirrels scurrying up the trees was worth the walk. The restrooms are currently closed for renovations.
Nice park, but needs more vigilant custodial care. Found an open condom on the playground floor and the lake had some litter in it. There is also a scent of trash that comes in from nearby, outside the park. The layout, walking trail, and scenery are very nice, though!
It's a very natural touch of beauty park. Always good if you have someone with you. Trees, waterbodies, birds, turtles, ducks are awesome. You must visit there at least once. There is also a place for children, if you have kids/children they can enjoy the playground.
The lake part is nice, but there is so much garbage around and even in the water its horrible. I feel so bad for the wildlife there. It is actually disgusting that people dont care about the park. Anyways, in the lake r some pond turtles, ducks, and a crane.
A Very nice park to visit for quick walk. On a sad note you can tell that a lot of people have dropped off turtles they couldn't keep anymore making it a unique place to see different species of turtles some are friendly some aren't so be careful. …
Spent a lot of time here as kids. It’s got everything you need - a playground, lots of nature, a nice duck pond, and many benches all around to relax and enjoy. Generally well-kept - not perfectly trash-free, but certainly improved since earlier days.
Beautiful small little park with massive Bangali community. Kids playground available . there's a Little pond where you can see various ducks , Sharon , turtles . Overall a nice little park to refresh your brain after a busy day and enjoy the nature.
Nice park, just a shame about rubbish bags. Great to see the turtles and different types of birds around the lake.
Restrooms
There isn't one.
Dog-friendliness
OK, for dogs, as long as you clean up their poop...
Nice park. Clean and enough space for s family gathering. The children's playground is small, better suited for toddlers. No basketball ground. Water is sometimes clean, good environment and surroundings.
Small awesome park in neighborhood. The lake in the middle of park is so nice. NYC municipal is doing construction work on west side of park for last 2 years still they didn't finish
Nice place and super quiet. Pond and birds are so beautiful. Amazing landscape. But bathrooms are an issue. Still, a pretty park to go to. Lastly, the little park is good for kids.
Nice park.. very relaxing in daytime.. water in the pond is rotten but it’s ok.. but after the dark this place gets.., well.. “romantic”.. law enforcement needs to keep an eye on.
It's a small park but the views of the pond are beautiful. I love to exercise here or just go to relax. Update 2022, there's a lot of benches to sit on that were not there before
Good place to walk in the neighborhood but the pond is kind of dirty. There are many beautiful parks in NYC so if you don’t live nearby then it won’t be a wise place to visit
I go there almost everyday twice! I know even the birds and ducks and the goose! They know me too! It's a simple fun place to be with family or take a little walk!
We love going for family walks here. A great place for little kids to do a scavenger hunt. Everyone is friendly and many things to see when you come to this park.
Loved the park...needs more cleaning. The water in the pond is not flowing and looks muggy. Then there's alot of littering...please people use the bins...thanks.
This park used to be very nice and quiet but lately it's been overcrowded and dirty. We used to see a couple of big turtle residents at the pond but not anymore.
Captain Tilly park is the best neighbourhood park in Jamaica Hillside area. A nice pond, little hill area and charming ducks all around the park to welcome you.
Spent a lovely hour here yesterday walking in the open air and sunshine. There are numerous benches for relaxation. There is also a playground for children.
Very nice park, quiet and serene. I call it a hidden gem in Jamaica, Queens. Unfortunately there can be a lot of garbage around, especially in the pond.
A little dirty at times, but they are trying to keep it clean. Always see a police vehicle nearby on a hill, which makes the park feel more safe
Quiet place to relax. Duck pond with exotic birds and turtles. Playground and lots of grassy spots to picnic. Benches and bathrooms too.
If anyone can help me report a goose that is been hurt in one of his leg, i see this goose struggles a lot to find food....
Nice quiet walks at night. Unfortunately they are still doing a bit of construction, it should be done by the summer.
Clean and quiet any many geese due to the nice weather . But no bathroom on site construction upgrading restrooms.
Small and pleasant. The playground has a small slide and toddler swings. The pond has turtles and gease to watch!
Great place to Visit has a nice pond with ducks and geese has and from time to time a few Hawks flying around
I love this park! I exercise here on my lunch break everyday; I go back to work refreshed and ready to go!
Wish the palm ground has more activities for kids. Really limited option. And we need some bbq pits.
The area in really dirty like there are plastics everywhere.. it’s more clean in winter I guess
If you aren't from Queens you probably don't know this Lil Oasis exist right off Hillside Ave.
Beautiful little park in the area! Definitely visit if you need. Little break or quiet time.
It's a good local, community park with a pond where you can walk, run, or walk your dog.
Nice Place but its not safe for the pregnant woman, some of teenagers are irritated,
It is an absolutely beautiful park except the pond is beyond dirty and is not safe
kids loving the large play area and the soccer field.
Nice place but no bathroom for long time.
