My experience was not really good. I bought a new car and both remotes stop working one day after (one of the remotes was not working at the day that I bought the car). Also, there is a noise close to the engine and we called to fix this at they gave us an appointment for two weeks later. We still waiting to enjoy our new car. Also, we were saling our car and they did a mistake with our papers and we had to wait two weeks to sell the car (we couldn’t discount the price on the new car) and we had to pay two extra weeks for insurance. Each coworker throwing under the bus between each other and avoiding their responsability. UPLOAD: After waiting 2 weeks to repair a new car in "perfect" conditions, now this is the situation for today: Today's appointment they told us it was to fix the problem with the car. My wife left the car at 8:50 this morning and they would call her shortly to say what was happening in the car. Again, she had to walk back for more than an hour with the baby to get home, since they told her that they did not offer a replacement car since they were going to fix it that same day. At 1:15, after many attempts to connect with CARMAX, being impossible to talk to any worker, she was finally able to contact them. The person with whom she spoke said that they had not yet looked at the car (4 hours after leaving the car) and that we could come from 3:00 because they would already have the diagnosis. And that in any case, later they would tell us the date to fix the car. Nowhere did they tell us it was a diagnosis. They needed 6 hours to make a diagnosis. When we made the complaint, they gave us an appointment after 14 days and ONLY to make a diagnosis. It seems to me totally a VERY big lack of professionalism. In the text messages received by CARMAX at no time does it speak of diagnosis. (The same situation was repeated when we had the problem with the keys). Now after my wife has been very angry about this bad treatment, they have called us later to say that they are going to send the car to Dodge to fix what is happening to us and that they give us a replacement car.
I had finally found the car that I love and have wanted. However, I would never again purchase a vehicle from this establishment. I live in Hollister it’s an hour from Carmax in San Jose. It is far. So goes to show I wanted and love the car I purchased. In the photos when I looked on their website it had two keys and two remotes when I purchased it they only gave me two keys and one remote. I worked at a dealership even with used cars they always gave two keys and two remotes. I had to return the day after I purchased because they did not reset the oil life monitor. So as they did that I asked if I could get the second remote. They said no and the service manager Ramon said it was up to there standards if I have two keys and one remote. I spoke to a very helpful business manager and she spoke to Ramon and he ordered the remote with a third party vendor. I was called two weeks later that it was in and needed to be programmed I was out of town when I received the phone call so I said let me call you back. I found someone to take my car but I called back 8 times and left voicemails. No one answered. So I had my person go to make it between the time frame they gave me. They arrived and were told they could not do it because I never confirmed. That I should’ve kept calling and not have left a voicemail because they don’t listen to them until end of day. So now I must find someone to return the next Friday in order to get the remote programmed by their third party vendor.
My review is a bit mixed hence the 3 stars. The pro is that the car buying experience was efficient. I enquired about the car online, it was shipped to a CarMax near me, I took it for a test drive and decided to buy. The paperwork was completed efficiently, the sales person was nice. The price was as advertised which is better than most shark dealers now! The paperwork was a bit pressured though with 3 people standing over you but fine. They handled the DMV registration. The downside is that the experience after buying the car is disappointing. I had an issue with the windscreen on the day I purchased, which CarMax agreed to cover under the warranty. It’s now been 37 days since I bought the car and no luck with Safelite or CarMax with regards to getting it fixed. I have emailed and called - all of which has been ignored. I paid for the extended warranty with CarMax but will now cancel - what’s the point if you can’t actually use it! I wish you luck with your purchase. I am reviewing this again. I sold my car back to Carmax. Safelite came through on the windscreen and it was perfect. I had an issue with the tires and Carmax replaced all of them. The sales process was super efficient - the first appraisal they honoured. The paperwork was completed quickly even tho I was a walk in. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again and I have updated my review to 5 stars
bought Infiniti QX50 2017 for a fair price. Positive: Car is awesome. Price is fair. Care pack sold sounded reasonable and appealing. Negatives: 1) Major issue - A week after purchase I checked my car with an official Infinity service center and they alerted me that rear brake pads on the car I just bought were severely worn off and need immediate replacement. I don't understand how Carmax overlooked the basic thing and didn't check and replaced brake pads before selling, basically selling me the car with is not safe to drive. I'm glad I double checked it on my own and now having Carmax replace the brake pads, but this should never have happened in the first place. Was not expecting such overlook from a reputable company. I want to draw someone's attention so that it never happens to your other customers in future, and keeps everyone on the roads safe, happy, and save money to everyone! 2) Smaller issue - It took 4h from moment I said I'm ready to buy to me exiting with the car, even though I was preapproved for financing with Carmax and had gave all my details in advance. Didn't change my satisfaction from the deal I got, but could have been arranged faster or at least someone could have offered me to go back home and come back in 4 hours to pick up the keys instead of waiting in their office, since they didn't need anything from me to do.
The gentleman that helped us was great, no issue there. My issue was with CarMax online process, and home delivery. 1) I applied via CarMax, got approved, and checked in twice with live CarMax Reps over the phone to confirm everything with my application was good. I was assured it was, and just needed to wait for my car delivery. 2) On the day my car arrived, I called in again, and this time was told I needed to resubmit my application because my drivers license has my middle name. This was upsetting because it dinged my credit twice in one week since I had just submitted the first application a week earlier, and because of that I got a much higher rates, and payments. At this point, I had no option but to continue with my purchase, then I scheduled home delivery, and was told I’d get e-sign docs before car delivery. Next day I called to report I never got the e-sign docs, and then find out that I can’t get home delivery because of the e-sign issue. The whole reason I went to CarMax was for the convenience of online purchase and home delivery. I wasn’t told my home delivery wasn’t goin to happen , I had to ask, otherwise I would’ve been waiting for a home delivery that never came. The whole experience was frustrating, untrustworthy, and false advertisement by CarMax.
This is my 3rd time trade-in/buying cars from CarMax. I think mostly the pros for doing it through CarMax is hustle free, you don't have to negotiating any thing and once you've done your research and compare the similar car price in other places (dealership/craglist), you can use carfax(pay like 50 bucks) for the full report of the car you like. And once you went on site to carmax to double check/test drive the car you like, it would be easy to buy/finance the car. 3 things I would recommend: 1. Buy carmax extended warranty, no matter how car expert you are it is never harm to have an external layer of protection if ever your newly bought used car has some issue when you start driving it. 2. Go to your own credit score union for auto loan rates offer and then compare it with carmax's one, I used to think my own credit union would always beat carmax's financial rates, but it turned out they are the same or carmax can even do better. 3. Don't hesitate to use carfax or any other tools(paid) to double check the VIN number of the car you want to buy to get a full picture of your car's history. So far both of my cars I got from carmax is still doing fine. If future I need to trade-in/buy another car I will definitely consider carmax.
So many miscommunications. First, the sales team needs to be on the same page as the business team. I spent $150 to Uber to pick up my car only to be told that I couldn't because of a wire transfer snafu between my two banks. This only happened because the Sales rep I was working with told me I could not directly wire the funds to Carmax, which would have been preferable and faster. It was a huge headache and interrupted 2 full workdays. I was also told that Carmax would arrange to have the windshield fixed which has cracks in it. I didn't hear anything from them after the car was finally delivered, so I called the branch and they said that it was not the business department's job to set that up and that I would need to set that up separately with a different department. This is really poor hospitality and service. Why can't these two departments coordinate to provide better customer service? I will not be using Carmax again, and I will be warning my friends and family not to use Carmax as well. After all the time this has cost me, I'd guess I paid an extra $5,000 for my car — which still has cracks in the windshield.
They have a very busy and large staff yet we're all very friendly, fast, attentive, and competent. Went in on a Saturday to sell my car that still had a loan on it. I didn't realize my loan company closed early that day and they do need to call them. They tried to do that first but my loan company closed early. not their fault but I appreciated the effort on their part doing the process out of order. They told me to come back on Tuesday when it was slower. I think within an hour they inspected my car, called the loan company, and had a check cut for me. Honestly gave me more value than I expected. Far more than anywhere else I had looked at offered me. The receptionist was nice enough to let me go in the back lot to look at my car one last time, I found myself bawling my eyes out because it was a good car but I inherited another one recently so it made sense to part ways. Anyways, the whole process was simple, fast, and good value. I would highly recommend CarMax for selling a vehicle.
The selection is tricky, as some of the vehicles have undisclosed issues that you wouldn't know about if you don't see it in person. This location specifically DOES NOT have a detail staff or bay, so expect dog hair, spilled sodas, cigarette smoke, etc, in the cars. Beware of dark upholstery as they hide a lot of use and dirt. Always always check the brakes and tires yourself or have a shop double-check them. The paperwork will say OK or green status, but they are very good about pushing serviceable parts to their acceptable sellable limits. Beware when an agent tells you they have a vehicle on hold for you because most times they don't check to see if someone else has a hold on it, too. Service was quick enough on required safety replacements, but don't expect to speak to the person who actually serviced your car to see what was wrong or to see if it was actually resolved. This left me walking out with an issue "solved" on paper, but not actually on the car.
I bought my first car here. I'm a young woman, so naturally I was afraid of getting taken advantage of. However, I had the best possible experience, thanks to Salman and his coworkers. First, I got to my appointment about an hour early - lol - but Salman still happily took me. He took me on a couple of test drives until I found a car that I absolutely loved within my small budget. I felt no rush or pressure whatsoever. Then, I was having a few issues with my pre-approved loan, but Salman was so patient and made sure I was able to get the financing I wanted. He really went above and beyond, even though he was balancing other clients. I'm in a situation where my credit isn't the best right now, but I expect it to improve within a few months. Salman and his coworkers gave me advice on refinancing my loan to get a lower interest rate a few months from now. I couldn't recommend Salman or this Carmax location enough.
I sold my 2012 VW Tiguan here, and had a great experience. In the entrance, at first I felt a bit chaotic as I kept being directed to different people until I finally found the right folk. After that, everything was smooth: car appraisal was quick and done in less than 20 min. No changes to the online quoted prices at all. It took a bit longer (2 hours instead of the said 1 hr) to get the DMV documents processed . I showed up and signed in a few places and got a check for my car instantly and the fund was available the next business day. The staff was friendly and helpful the entire time. I didn't do a great deal of comparison, and only have another quote from Shift, which was about 3k lower than CarMax. After finding that there were two minor accidents before I owned the car, the Shift price went down even further whereas these conditions didn't affect CarMax price. I am happy that I sold it to CarMax.
Went there with a specific car to purchase. The test drive part was simple and easy. Now we come to the purchase. We were told it would take 20 minutes. 3 hours later we left with the car we wanted. Maybe it was just this sales person but she was all over the place. Had to keep asking a manager questions but said she worked there for 2 years, she should know how to do this. Additionally, she took a 15-20 minute call from a customer who was interested in buying a car. BIG NO NO in sales. That’s sales 101, you have a customer in front of you waiting to buy and you take a call, WRONG thing to do. Overall, this “sales person” did not know her job and knew nothing about actual sales. Came so close walking out but the car wasn’t for me so I gutted it out. Never filled out more paperwork to buy a house than for this car. Go there, test drive and look for a better price elsewhere.
They give you attractive prices for your vehicle online but when you go there in person its a totally different experience. They use “market fluctuates” excuse. Their reps are rude and incompetent. They couldn’t verify my loan details even when I gave them the statement and a 24/7 banking number. They make you wait and come the next day and then they use “our systems are down” excuse to not sort out stuff. Also, they won’t give you a ride or lift back home after you’ve sold your car if you live 10miles out. If you want to sell your car go to bunch of car dealerships on Stevens Creek Blvd in Sunnyvale/Santa Clara. I got better offer from Auto Nation and the money was in my account in second’s because Auto Nation uses Zelle payments unlike CarMax which is so backwards in a lot of areas. CarMax sucks!!!!
Bought a car from here and took it on a test drive. Knew i wanted this specific car because i did much research before hand. Car preformed great on a test drive so i went through and bought the car. The same day i’m heading home the car completely brakes down on me and i can’t drive it. Carmax compensated with a tow, and i was hoping to get the issue fixed right away. 3 weeks later i still don’t have my car and the service team “Doesn’t know” when a technician can work on the car. How does that make sense? people are out of a car and no one is working on them? I do not understand how you can run a service center without performing services. if you need work done to your car through car max, NEVER I REPEAT NEVER use the capital expressway location. You won’t see your car back in a month
My experience was mostly good. I got a quote online and set an appointment for 2PM at the facility on Capitol Expressway in San Jose. When I arrived at the appointment time, I was told they were busy today and that I'd have to wait about 2 hours for my evaluation to begin. I responded that I had an appointment at 2PM and their response was we take people in the order they arrive regardless of appointment. That doesn't mesh with my idea of an appointment. After the 2 hours, the original quote was honored but again since they were busy, it would be another approximately 2 hours before we could start the paperwork. So the process of getting the quote and selling the car was in general good. My beef is if you aren't going to honor an appointment time, don't tell me I have an appointment.
Been here since 1245 pm 1:30 pm Inefficient, disinterested employees. After waiting for almost 45 mins as the next person in the queue, I am ready to get up and walk away. There is no shortage of employees as they seem to be buzzing around acting busy or they are just sitting around. Also, why do you need three employees attending to one customer? The store is pretty empty and not at all busy. But I see customers sitting and waiting still. When I tell them I've waited a long time, no apologies, just that I'm next in line. I'm planning to stick around and update this post when I actually get someone to show me their inventory. 1:40 pm Are these guys interested in selling me a car ? 1:50 pm Outa here. Not enough inventory. Pretty uninformed sales staff. They don't know their cars.
I totaled my car two weeks ago and was in need of a newer vehicle to replace my damaged car.. I booked my appointment over the phone with a customer service representative, who also helped with my $10,000 pre-approved loan. So the Salesman and I sat down to see what they had to offer in my price range, almost immediately that was dismissed and then any hope getting a vehicle from them, was taken away from me.. My income bracket wasn't good enough for them or the loan institution they worked with! This, is the second time in the past two years I have been to CarMax and I'l if darned if the service was just as dismissive as before! ( This is how I felt leaving this place, once again.) Maybe my insecurities got the best of me! But I did get a great deal on my newer Car that day!
Pros: Diego is a very pleasant salesman and helped us as best he could with the given situation. I have no issue with him whatsoever. Also the vehicle we purchased is very nice and at a reasonable price. Cons: We showed up with financing pre-approval, a decent-sized downpayment, had reserved the vehicle prior to arrival and it too THREE HOURS TO GET OUT OF THERE! Poor Diego was literally standing over the shoulders of people who should be printing out paperwork to get our money we want to pay them so we can take our car and go home. Instead everyone was standing around doing nothing. If you're driving up from Salinas, Monterey, etc this may not be the "I'm not going to get dragged spending my whole day in a dealership" experience you are looking for.
Nice way to get a car with less pressure. However, I felt like it was very disorganized and there was not clear communication. The guy who showed me the car I was interested in didn’t know where it was parked and could answer almost no questions we had about it. The next day, I finished all the paperwork and got my car. Later that night I got a text saying they forgot to have me sign the check from my lender and that I had to come back. The car was missing an accessory. I was told it would be shipped to my house. When I followed up with them 2 weeks later they said the item was ready to pick up at car max. Individual associates were nice and helpful but the customer service experience overall could be more organized.
This was the easiest transaction for a car I have ever experienced, and I credit that to the people at CarMax. They got me started, guided me through with what was needed (Insurance and etc,.), and once that was done; I made payment and got my car. The car itself was clean and just the way it was described and shown online. I'm a 'people' person, love them and respect them, so I tend to look hard at who they are, especially when they are helping me in some kind of business/transaction, and everyone I spoke with was wonderful. I would and will recommend that folks try CarMax for themselves, they do have a huge selection of automobiles and a user friendly menu for seeking your needs and price range. Thank you!
I got approved for a loan through my bank, Golden1 Credit Union, for a rate of 6.3% but for some reason the loan department told my representative they don’t do business with Golden1. The process took around 5 days; and the CarMax rep told me to just go with CarMax’s lending team and that I would be able to switch to my bank’s financing with no issues. I went over my “3 Day” window and CarMax is trying to lock me in an interest rate of 17.6%!!! Literally robbing me out of at least 8k in interest!!! They ARE NOT TRANSPARENT and will ROB YOU WITH IN HOUSE FINANCING. They seem legit but it’s all about the money with them. I would shop around and not take “the good deal” from CarMax
Overall it was a decent experience and I am happy with the car I chose. However, on the day I scheduled my express pickup, I noticed several scratches and nicks on the passenger side doors. I didn't notice any of them the first day I test drove the car, and wasn't shown the car again until after the purchase had been finalized. I am not sure if that was intentional, but it of course made the process seem shady. The manager at the store let me know they would put in a request for the service team to buff out the scratches and see if small repairs could be made, and they never reached out. I actually never heard from anyone at Carmax again.
Dig this CarMax! The only 1 from Fresno to SLO! Let me just say the customer service by Zyaire Walker on the floor, Tehena in finance, Josh Shirley online, and Paul on landline, was truly HASSLE free! The CarMax App is easy to use and agents actually respond to inquires. Was able to pre apply and only had a 53 min OTD - out the door - my Red Fiat 500 Sport was tripped! Looking for posh, work, fuel economy check the site make an appointment - yr choice is marked “not available” to give you the 7 days to get your ducks in order! Thanks CarMax this is my 2nd purchase in 10 years! Better financing opportunities and great store!
The overall experience was pleasant and easy. I received an internet quote which seemed fair and was good for 7 days. When I came in, I was greeted right away and brought over to the department that handles the purchasing of cars. The person did the paperwork and said the process would take about 90 minutes total. Everything seemed to go fine until the end when my folder was just sitting on the desk and after waiting and extra 45 minutes I asked what was going on and I finally signed the paperwork and got my check. With the exception of having to wait seemingly for no reason Carmax did a good job and the offer was fair.
We had the absolute best experience getting our new Ford Flex from CarMax! When we went for the test drive and to pick it up, we and the salesman discovered a large scrape in the paint inside the door. The salesman went inside and grabbed his sales manager. They came back out and let us know that the vehicle was not up to their standards and that they wanted to get that fixed before we took the vehicle. They were able to get it painted quickly and we picked it up a few days later! The whole time, Zach the Sales Manager, was keeping me updated by email. I was so happy with this experience!
Our process was so quick and simple. Can’t thank the Carmax enough for making our experience so seamless . My husband had already gotten an online quote and took an appointment with the carmax dealership. When we went there, we were checked in, then they ran a couple of tests on the car and our offer was ready. You could see every stage being projected on a TV screen. Next we were approached by an agent who walked us through the transfer paper work. We were done in about hour and a half. Thank you so much. This is the kind of customer service we really look forward to
10/10 experience here because Quan is the MAN! From the moment I stepped foot in the building he was very supportive and helpful getting me in my dream car. The trade-in process was seamless and I received a fair quote within minutes! My dream car was in LA and they got it shipped to the local store within 3 days. We had such a great experience here, we’re coming back next year to trade in the wife’s car as well! If you’re looking for a new car or to trade in/sell your existing vehicle, please do yourself a favor and go to CarMax and ask for my man Quan!
The reason I give only 4 stars is because when I was there to sell the car. They told me the paperwork would take about an hour and fifteen minutes and they will call me when it is ready. I went to the waiting area and sat there for an hour and a half. Nobody call me. I went to window to follow up with them and sure enough. The paper was done and they put it on a rack. If I didn't come to ask. I don't know how long I have to seat there waiting for them to call me up. Anyway, the sell went smoothly and the staffs are friendly except for the waiting part.
Carmax made selling my car so easy. I recieved an online quote and uploaded required docs, scheduled an appointment (I called instead of doing this online as there was a slight issue with one of my docs), went into Carmax, and less than an hour later I was out of there with a check for the full price they originally offered. No haggling or trying to pull one over on me. I would definitely sell a car with them again (SO much better than trying to deal with other shady and uncommunicative online companies - AND Carmax had the best offer!).
Got a quote online to sell my car to them; booked an appointment and it said it would take 30-90 minutes. Made sure I had all my paperwork etc. in order beforehand and it took 3 hours. They did honor the valuation (thus 2 stars instead of 1), but taking 3 hours for a simple sale is ridiculous. They appraised the car within 30 minutes and then it somehow took 2.5 hours to print 2 pages of paperwork and bring it to me to sign. There was zero communication from them during those 2.5 hours while I twiddled my thumbs in the waiting area.
When I arrived, I was a little skeptical of the process, because I was only asked for information then to wait. But as I waited, I watched the Techs thoroughly examine and drive my car, I was impressed with their diligence. Then I was notified they were ready to complete the transaction. The lady that handled this process was attentive, friendly and explained all the steps to complete the selling process before she walked through those steps. All in all, it took less than 2 hours to complete, and I was happy with the experience.
While the salesperson was very good; the Service staff were the worst!!! Their phone number is rarely answered. When you leave a nesssge, no one calls you back. They make appointments for you that send you to their subcontractors. Either the sun has no idea that you were coming or, they cannot do the work that you need. This is abominable customer service. If you do manage to get someone on the phone, they simply repeat what you asked for and read your choices from a script. I will never shop at any CarMax ever again!!!!
I sold my car to CarMax and it was extremely easy and quick. They gave me a very fair price for the car and it was very fast. I think I was there for maybe an hour after getting a price on their website. Took the quote to CarMax, they checked out the car, got the price they quoted on the website. No hassle of trying to sell it on my own. No strangers coming to the house to look and drive it. No worries about who they might be, have a current DL, or are just not good people. I would definitely use CarMax again.
What an absolute joke!!! My husband and I purchased a Ford Focus Titanium back in January of 2023 and not even 8 months into owning the vehicle, the transmission blew. The certified mechanic that overlooked the car said that there was a faulty Transmission put in and the car report initially said there were no problems with the vehicle. We did purchase the max care at the time of sale as well. I will never again do any business with CarMax. They were unhelpful, extremely rude and did not offer an solutions.
Wait was long. The guy who helped us, Ethan was very helpful. Quick and easy to communicate with. Promised to hold the car till we come back. Overall I was happy about my first visit here. Updating my review. 2 days later. Came in to buy the car they said they put on hold for me. Now they say somebody deleted the car in their system from another dealership, and this is causing at least an hour delay. If I had not pushed back, they would just say sorry it is what it is and move on to the next car.
It started out great with a quick and easy purchase. However , the car started to show signs of problems within the 30 day return policy, when I inquired about returning it they said I had over 1500, miles. The car broke down in Fresno and it couldn't go up a hill, it would stall many times at stop lights. The car is in Fresno CarMax and I received a loaner for one week while repairs were being made. I get the car back tomorrow. I still want to return it. This car is a lemon..... please help.
Selling the car was really easy. They inspected it and kept the offer they made online and quickly had me sign a few things then gave me the check. Took about an hour total. Was frustrated after the sale as they kept me waiting almost an hour for a promised ride home (as I’d sold my car), and kept saying it’d coming I’ll get a text. Never showed up so I gave up and called a friend. Otherwise good service but don’t count on them for a ride that they say they’ll give you, unfortunately.
Completely painless and easy. Couldn’t ask for a better experience. I sold my car to Carmax. Got a quote online from several different online auto sites. By far Carmax offered the best amount over and above all others. I then took the car in to the local Carmax and they took about 45 minutes to inspected the car. They confirmed the condition and confirmed they will pay 100% of the offer. Overall, the experience took no more than 3 hrs from online to inspection to complete the payout.
My only complaint is that twice I was put on hold for more than 15 minutes and I hung up both time. This is when I was trying to schedule an express checkout appointment. Other than that it was a wonderful experience. From the time I walked in until I left the lot was less than an hour. Car was as advertised . If they would have answered the phone more timely or promised to call me back if I didn't want to wait, I would have given a 5*. This is from the scheduling center in Georgia.
Terrible experience, brought a car for an appraisal then I decided to take the offer, they asked to bring the registration and title, I got everything and came back 8 days later, they said they needed to do another appraisal, they came back with half price of the appraisal given 8days earlier knowing that the car had only a couple miles extra during the 8days. How on earth do you guys lower an appraisal with half price in just 8 days? Never sell nor deal with Carmax again!
I had to make three trips to Carmax because my registration had not been paid up. Ipaid in August but my check was never received. After c learing that up with the DMV, I got to sell my car for the price offered on my third visit. Anna helped me with the paperwork and she was great, but it took a c ouple of hours. I would hav e gotten my c heck on the first visit if I hadn't run into the registration problem with DMV. I am very satisfied with the outcome. Thank you Carmax.
I got an online quote to sell my car to CarMax and took the quote and my car to the local CarMax on Capitol Auto Mall in San Jose. The agent greeted me and showed me how to login. After waiting about 30 minutes, the quote was validated and I agreed to sell my car. It took about another 30 minutes to complete the paperwork and get a check. CarMax even paid for my Lyft ride home. I think I got a very fair price with very little effort and just an hour of my time.
I had asked for an express checkout 2 days prior and was assured that everything would be ready when we got there. It was a poor showing right from the start- the express checkout was not setup, the salesman couldn't find the car, so we ended up walking all over the lot trying to find it. We were assured to be in and out in 30 minutes and we ended up sitting around for almost 3 hours. I am happy with the outcome, but the process was extremely poor.
CarMax is really one of a kind used car dealer and I must say, over the weekend they’re crazy busy and a lot going on with tons of customers. This is a one stop shop with good inventory to look around and has a few good EVs too in their lot. The 30-day money back gives you peace mind and the opportunity to test drive your vehicle for a little longer to experience it fully. The scale of operation and the flexibility is it’s USP. Highly recommended.
Tracy in the San Jose station did an AWESOME job of helping me find the perfect fit! We had already been pressured at a local Toyota dealership. When the first Toyota came in and was not quite hitting it, no pressure for me to buy it was placed on us. Instead, we found another great car in NV. had it shipped to CA. and within a week, I was able to drive it, and buy it! Thank you, again Tracy for making the car buying experience so hassle free!!
My experience overall was good, but I had to wait over 20 minutes from my scheduled appointment to be greeted by a sales consultant. I am, however, extremely unsatisfied by the lack of clarity when told that the extended warranty is refundable. IT DOES NOT LOWER YOUR MONTHLY PAYMENT, YOU STILL HAVE TO PAY THE SAME AMOUNT EVERY MONTH! I wasn’t even reminded that my car still had factory warranty for another 4 years! Shame on you, CarMax.
I had an appointment to sell my car after receiving an online offer. The process took two hours and the ultimate offer was 2/3 of what had been offered online. I was annoyed because I could have sold the car independently for much more, but I was from out of town and it was not convenient for me to refuse their offer. It had all of the hallmarks of a “bait & switch” program. Not happy with the process at all.
Got the car shipped from out of state into California. Car looked great on the site, no hotspots were shown. Went to view the car, corrosion on the hood that was not mentioned and the exhaust had no mufflers which is illegal in California. Gave a good price on my trade in. If you can see the car on the lot, they are probably good to deal with. If you are getting a car shipped from another branch, AVOID!!!!!!
Even if you make an appointment and expect to wait an hour. We were told that's just the nature of any business these days but weren't offered an update on wait time unless we asked. Otherwise the process is much less "up sell" oriented than a typical dealership. In the state of CA you need an active insurance policy to test drive on your own or drive the car home off the lot. Things to keep in mind.
I came in to sell my car, with pumped up hopes that they would buy my car for a decent amount. I bought my car a week ago, unexpected work changes happened so I thought of selling since I'm leaving out of state & won't be using. My car is worth34k with 51k miles these guys offered 25k. That's a low ball to me, when they can easily sell for 36k. I won't be coming back here. Don't settle for low.
DO NOT BUY AT CARMAX SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE OF THE Maxcare warranty they are a joke of a company I’ve bin without a car after my purchased vehicle needed repairs. Max 7days rental and they know I’m without a car they approved the work to be done at repair shop they know I need my rental and give me the runaround avoid avoid. Just go to an actual retail where they make the car you looking for.
Hassle free experience for selling a used car. Pricing was good and service was pleasant and helpful. Store was neat and clean.. didnt feel any pressure from the sales people. Only downside was the long wait.. took a little over 3 hours to get the appraisal done and complete the transaction. Still I would say that this is better than trying to sell the car privately or through a dealer.
Smooth and well done. Despite me being late and missing the appointment time, they still accommodated me. I didn’t have to wait too long. Also since the associate forgot to tell me, you can get a ride to and from carmax for up to a 10 mile radius. I couldn’t cancel my Uber since it was going to cost me anyways. But I’m sure this can help anyone who’s trying to buy or sell a car.
I feared an overly generous estimate online from Edmunds/thru CarMax, but was wrong. They offered the same amount as the online estimate, and I walked out with a check that day. It took a bit of time (90-120 min) which I hadn't planned upon. But I may have been overly optimistic. That quibble doesn't detract from my enthusiasm to reach out to CarMax next time I sell a car!!!!
I have used on-line offer program to sell my car. That program set an appointment by the next day. The process went very nicely. In one and a half hour later from the start, they offer the same amount suggested by the on-line offer. We are pleased to accept the offer. All the documents are well prepared. Nicely done. Coffee is provided and comfortable lobby is set.
Lovely experience, we got to look on our own and when we were ready someone came to help us very quickly! One of the employees, Monica, was very kind and took her time to explain all of the aspects of the process and went into detail and made sure I understood everything! She was very helpful and a pleasure to talk to! Just an overall great experience here!
Without any doubt, this stands as the nicest car purchasing experience I've ever had! Duy Bui escorted us to the car we had reserved on-line, we drove it and then bought it. The whole experience took just shy of two (2) hours! We are extremely happy with the car (2018 Suburu Outback, loaded) and look forward to purchasing another in the next year, or so.
It was great. It is truly no hassle. CarMax's quote for my 10 year old MDX was higher than anyone else. I booked an appt, they did a test drive/inspection and offered me the same price as online quote. It was a very busy day so took ~45 mins to finish everything and I was out of there with a check. It is by far the best way to sell a used car.
CarMax of Capitol Expressway San Jose CA got it done when nobody else could help us. We had medical issues that brought both of our credit scores to 450, and no could get us qualified for a loan….Salesman Sulman wouldn’t give up he called and text with all kinds of different scenarios until we got the Tesla my wife wanted…excellent service.
The gentleman that helped us was great. Veryhelpful in getting the right car. Very impressed with the way it was handled except at the end we had to wait a long time for paper work to go through as they were short of staff to do paper work. felt like I was buying a house with all the documents we ended up signing both digitally and by hand.
I had a wonderful experience at Carmax. I would recommend anyone, especially first time buyers to come to Carmax. The staff is so friendly and care for what car you will love and would fit your budget. I had a wonderful associate named Ethan who was extremely helpful during a stressful situation of mine and now I am in love with my car.
We could not have gotten the car for our oldest without Tracy's help. We needed to secure financing and it was going to take time to do it. We had found the car we wanted, but had to have time get the money from out financial institution. Tracy was able to give us the time we needed to make the purchase. I'm so grateful for her help.
Maalik and everyone else that we worked with at this Carmax was GREAT! The process to pickup the car was less than 15min (we paid online before). When we got home we realized one of the floor boards to step up into the car was loose and we took it back to have it fixed with no problem at all. That process took 30min and it was free.
Tracy was absolutely lovely! She chatted with me while I waited for the appraisal and the whole experience was quick and painless. I’d gotten a few appraisals as a trade-in and as a sale to a dealership and Carmax was by far the best offer and the best experience. Thank you all for making it so easy to sell my 13-year-old baby!
Shopping for a car and purchasing a car with Carmax was the best experience. I did a lot of the searching on my own at my own pace and once I was ready to purchase my car the staff over the phone were very helpful and kind. I would highly recommend Carmax. I will definitely purchase my next car with Carmax.
Came in with an appointment but it was not confirmed in the system which technically means I did not have an appointment. I arrived at 8 am and Phuong and Jose were very diligent about addressing my concerns. Very pleased with the service, their patience, and willingness to help. Five stars truly deserved.
It was my first time purchasing a vehicle and the process was smother than expected.. Miss Anna Garcia was amazing she made the process a lot better with her exceptional customer service … if you are going to carmax to do business I will recommend Miss Anna . Best car buying experience ever 1000 stars
This is definitely the easiest way to sell a car without getting ripped off by the dealer that you buy a new car from. You're not going to get a fair price. Far from it. At least you're also going to be in and done in a few hours, much better than spending hours upon days trying to sell it yourself
Horrible. i drove away in my new used minivan and not even 2 hours after i left i get a check engine light for the battery and catalytic converter. i call the service dept they gave me the run around and now i have to wait 3 weeks just for them to diagnose the issue NEVER Coming here again!
Very professional. All people were very kind to me and they explained with details the procedure of selling my car. The offer they made to me was the agreed online. Of course, my car was in great shape. Never in my life I've sell a car that smoothly. I would recommend it a thousand times.
It all work out at the end. Had auto transferred for LA to SJ and did the pre-approval by running my credit and completing the application on line before arrived. The only problem was the express auto purchase to avoid the long wait did not work. I had to re-run credit and wait in line.
CarMax made selling my car very easy and convenient. I started the process online, with their quote/offer, that was more than any dealership was offering. And was able to take it in that day to sell the car. Their team was really nice and I walked out that night with the check in hand.
The process was simple and easy. They gave me a fair price for my car. The only downside was that we were at the store for 3.5 hours. It was a Sunday so they were pretty busy, but we had an appointment which didn’t seem to matter much. So in the future, I would try to go on a weekday.
It is a hasle free car sell for me. just waited for 30 min and signed the documents and done.. Later i forgot to collect items from my car -- and went back after an hour. they helped with smiling face really liked their gesture -- sorry dont remember their names :( But i liked car max
Salesman was great but after purchasing my truck not even an hour later the change engine oil light comes on ans I cannot get a straight answer whether they didnt change the oil before they sold it or if they just didnt reset the oil life. Not happy and will probably never return.
The selling of my call was easy and great. However, once my car was sold, I tried to get my garage door opener I left behind, this is when the experience went sour. No one cared to help. I got lots of excuses on how it was not easy to get my item. It was extremely frustrating.
I liked the service. The offer was really nice when compared to others in the market. The overall time and processing was really fast. They offered me a ride back home after selling my car. They gave a 7 day grace period and matched the online offer from the CarMax website.
Selling my car was super easy and quick. I didn’t wait long to get the check from the bank that still owned my car. Melissa also did a great job with explaining the process and also reminded me to cancel my fastrak for the vehicle, which I probably would have forgotten to.
Took over 2 hours, just to do paperwork on my vehicle , to sell to carmax. which i think is outrageous . that does not include the 1 1/2 hour to get your vehicle inspected. if you sell a car to carmax. be prepared to spend 5 hours there. literally. i had tittle in hand...
Within five minutes I received an online offer for my 2018 Audi and when I went to the dealership it took only about one hour to receive a check made out in my name in the exact amount of the offer! So simple, efficient, no hassle, no haggle, straightforward transaction!
Process & customer service was excellent. However, due to a shortage of staff, the entire process took about 3 hours of which 2 hours was spent just waiting! People who walked in before my appointment time was processed first, which makes the appointment useless.
We are now a Carmax family. We've now used Carmax three times and each time the buying experience has been great. No haggling and faster process than your normal deals hips. They also gave us a fair amount for our old car, even my prius that had 12 error messages
Carmax continues to make the car selling process very streamlined. The trade in value was the highest of multiple companies I got quotes from. The entire process took about two hours in person after having filled out the online forms and making an appointment.
Bought my wife a 2020 Honda Fit here. Painless process. No used car sales people to deal with. 30 day return policy. Easy way to buy a car & doesn't have Carvana's registration challenges (which are MAJOR challenges). Highly recommend the CarMax buy process!
The process was clear and easy, I reserved the car had it shipped from LAX to San Jose. I had an appointment for the test drive, and an hour later I had my dream car. Love the process, teh ease of purchase and the no haggle no fee. It all worked out great.
I got a really good online appraisal and then was pleasantly when the in-person appraisal actually matched it. I do wish that the amount of time needed to sell a car could have been clearly stated somewhere because I needed to make a second trip.
Service and professionalism 5 stars. Submitted all the information for a quick turnaround to complete all of the paperwork. However they had errors that required them to do the paperwork three times and took 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete.
I loved the whole experience, right from getting the online a quote which was slightly higher than what i got elsewhere to how smooth and quick the whole evaluation to purchase process was. I'm amazed how easy you made it for me to sell my car
I got a new 2017 Dodge Ram and I did not notice water spots everywhere took it to a detailer they got the windows cleaned, but could not get it off on rims paint and chom, I should had checked in different light, Carmax should had notice
I have been exchange here one time. They having a professional staffs, friendly, really comfortable and not pressure when make a deal with them. They always welcome and give you guys a best deal. Absolutely be back when I need purchases.
Overall it truly was a good experience. The salesperson who worked with me was very polite, helpful, and professional throughout the process. The purchase of my car was relatively easy and I left the dealership a happy car owner.
Fantastic service all around. Trish at the Capitol Expressway location was welcoming and very helpful in walking me through the process this past weekend. I had a check in hand within an hour. Thank you all!
The online process was very good to get an offer. Then taking it to the store was easy. Positive experience. The only suggestion would be for CarMax to warn that the transaction can take 60 to 90 minutes.
Very professional, No pressure, No Stress Very great customer service. Everyone was relaxed and very positive vibes. This is our 2nd time dealing with Car Max and have no complaints and good experience.
Had a fantastic experience selling my car here. Quick appraisal process and I sold my car for the same price as the estimate i had received online. Got the check within one hour of arriving here.
CarMax should do the recall before sales the car and at least have a loan card or the customer to use while the car is for fixing. Also, have the service look at the car before the 30 day period.
I traded in my car in with the online appraisal price, and I was impressed not only by their professionalism but also by the kindness and attractiveness of the staff. A great experience overall!
Tracy at San Jose CarMax was great to work with. She was very knowledgeable and patient with these first-time CarMax buyers. We appreciated that she was always available to answer questions.
Dylan made the whole experience easy and smooth. He was very knowledgeable and patient when it came to our questions about various vehicles. Thanks to him we picked out the perfect car!
Over the years I twice sold cars to and once bought car from carmax (in three seperate transactions). Great customer service, fair price and piece of mind in buying/selling cars.
