This is from an accessibility standpoint. I needed to go around by two blocks across terrifying terrain to access the site. The sidewalk to access looked too narrow (it was) for my motorized wheelchair to pass… so.. I turned around to access the site on the street with cars. At the end of that block I did find a ramp. Up on the sidewalk there was no way to enter and it appeared closed during business hours. There was no room to turn my chair so I needed to go through the too small space at the corner across from the statue. It took me maybe 10 minutes to navigate the corner but I did get through eventually. I was afraid that I would go over the sidewalk edge but I did not. It is possible that with that minor stressor somehow I missed some accessibility entrance and if so it would be awesome if the Casa Navarro staff might respond with where it might be.
An understated and modest museum in acknowledgement to a very important San Antonio, Texas and Tejano figure. The home is well kept with two main structures for touring. The outside kitchen and the main house. There are some period pieces but mainly interpretive text panels give a rich context to Navarro’s role in Texas and Tejano history set in Laredito neighborhood of San Antonio. The signatures exhibit was an interesting nod to the use of unique touches used back in mid to late 1800s. I liked also the flag associated with Mexican independence as well as the early symbol of the eagle with the nopal. The gift shop has books and some logo items of the museum as well as some artisan items from a local shop in San Antonio. A good place to visit for San Antonio and Texas history. He was an amazing advocate for Tejanos.
Our family of 6 got in for $10 as they have a family price. Remarkable man, wonderful visit. Hands on, kid friendly historical site. Very Clean restrooms. This is truly a must for anyone who really wants to know Texan History from a true Texan born and raised under 6 flags transfer. It’s pretty stupid that they fail to include the Casa Navarro on many of the maps given out, but this is truly unbeatable. The richness learned here is unlike all the other sites. We visited the Briscoe’s Western Art Museum, National Park Missions, Spanish Governor’s Palace, Alamo. Amazing Man, worth more than a $10 visit.

I live in San Antonio and have never been here until today. The staff was super friendly and answered all my questions that I had after I walked through. I learned a lot. There are tons of videos and a lot of interactive exhibits. I was the only one there so it was a very pleasant experience. The only thing is that a lot of the information is sort of repetitive so after a while you stop reading as you get more into the museum.

Hands on experience. This would be a good place to take kids. You go from building to building. Shows how Navarro was an important figure in the establishment of the Texas Republic, how he made sure native Tejanos weren't forgotten, how he was imprisoned in Mexico. For me, he was inspiring. A great human being, really. There are slide shows for the grownups, and for the kids, none of the exhibits are off limits. They can color, sweep, climb on the chairs, play with the kitchen equipment or just run around outside acting like little animals.
What an unexpected find! I wish this historic site made more of San Antonio to do list! This museum is very interactive for kids of all ages. Lots of digital media too, which is always a plus in my book. I will be sure to share this with many community members and take our out of town guest. I give a 10 out of 10.

We concentrated on smaller, harder to find historic Republic of Texas sites in our current vacation. The Navarro Houses are definitely the best! The oldest dates from 1832, and all are restored accurately. Very friendly host, and very inexpensive admission. Student, senior & child discounts! Clean restrooms. Excellent videos. Period furniture & garden. Great displays on adobe brick making. HARD TO FIND.
Beautifully preserved post of Texas history downtown. As a friend of Casa Navarro I am happy to support an organization dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of my 7 greats great grandfather. I am so proud of their mission and scholarship program.

Great way to spend the afternoon, especially with kids. The interactive exhibits and videos are fun and informative. Admission is only $4 and it goes to keep the museum up and running. José Antonio Navarro was a fascinating man and one of the fathers of the Republic of Texas. Every Texan should know his story, and the story of the Navarro family.
On Tuesday June 12, 2018 walked 12 minutes from hotel to get to Casa Navarro State Historic Site that was suppose to open at 10 am. Arrived at 10:05 and building was not yet open. Waited 10 minutes for someone to show up but no one did. Left at 10:15 and were disappointed because we were flying home that afternoon.
David is the sweetest man, he is so helpful and gave us great service. We were disappointed from the museum. It's mostly short videos to watch but not much to see. Thank you David

Fun quiet place with great staff. This is a location that is in the city center but just off the touristic areas. Interesting and underrepresented history of Texas and San Antonio.

Well worth a visit. A small but important site that gives you a sense of Tejano family life in the 1800s. Also, interesting information about a leader in the Texas revolution, a leader in San Antonio for many years. Very interesting story. Includes activities for kids and several videos.
It is a nice site. I was hoping to see more furnishings belonging to Navarro. But they may not be available. He was a very prominent Tejano in Texas History.

I wish I could remember the name of the Man who was working on the Sunday of labor day weekend. He was very helpful and informative.
Fun and interesting museum. They did a great job designing it and making it fun even for children. Nice place for kids to learn
I would give this 19 stars if I could. Lots of history here and teeny, tiny admission. Frankly I would happily have paid more.
A must see in San Antonio.
