If you're a cold person who likes fish, this is the place to go and warm up just don't wear your winter jacket unless you want to sweat off about 5lbs. Any ways, the important part. The store is pretty clean despite the occasional bucket of water next to whatever tank is being cleaned, which I can't really complain about seen as it only proves they care for their fish and want things to look good. The last time I went in they didn't have a whole lot of fish in and certainly not as many betta fish, but they still had a nice selection of beautiful fish! Though I was just browsing, the one lady I saw was quick to help with the people who came in after me, and would check and see if I was still just browsing and if I had any questions. When I decided to buy some shells the man at the register was pleasant and we chatted about the fish I used to have and how I may get back into it. The worst things I could think of about this place is that they have a really small selection of tanks on display as well as a fairly small selection of decor items, so you may want to look else where for those things or talk with the owners about ordering things! I would definitely start your fish hobby adventure here!

Excellent communication and very professional staff. They responded to my Facebook messages within minutes and were courteous and kind. Caye's Aquarium was able to help me find the right plants for my aquarium and recommended chemicals for the plants. This was the only place in town willing to help with my cichlid that I couldn't keep. They gladly offered their aquarium to the little guy and will help him find the right home. Their tanks looked healthy, clean, and the fish were gorgeous. They get shipments in every other Monday, and their fish vary in size, color, species, and variety across the aisles. Gorgeous, healthy and fairly-priced plants too. Overall, the business gets five stars for their excellent service and kind and courteous staff. I'll be back!

Went to Cayes the other day to trade some fish. I got 9 cardinal tetras from my trade and they all infected my aquarium with the worst bacterial infection I've ever seen. I woke up this morning to 3 dead Corydora cats and several of the cardinal and rummynose dead. The cory in the photo I'd fighting for her life. DO NOT SHOP AT CAYES. There fish will infect your aquarium with awful fish killing disease. Pray for my fish dosing lots for meds now. Wishing I could give negative stars but had to give something to warn all of you. Update: the infection is called Culomnaris its highly contagious and very fatal. Pray for my aquarium I started treating yesterday with help from the wet spot. The cory in the photo passed away last night .

This is the closest aquarium store to my house but if I had to I'd drive across Portland in rush hour traffic to do my business with them! My wife and I stopped in the first time just to look and ask questions because we were thinking about getting an aquarium. Even on a busy Saturday the staff was extremely pleasant and helpful even knowing we weren't spending any money that day. They took the time to answer all of our newbie questions and made what can seem like a daunting hobby feel accessible. The next day we bought a used tank/set-up and on Monday my wife was back at Caye's for plants and advise. The next day they helped us pick out our first fish and we couldn't be more excited!

There isnt a fish store in portland to compare to cayes anymore. I hope they will always be around. You will not find the expert advice and awesome prices you get anywhere else. I have spent tons of time in this store, and i couldnt count how many times i have seen them take the time to help people with selecting and keeping fish. This hobby would not have been so good to me without them. I have recently gotten back into fish keeping, and was so happy to go back and see the same frendly faces. Some of the nicest folk i have met in the hobby. I couldnt say enough good things about these people and their store. Been help make this hobby fun for me for a years! Thank you cayes!

Great customer service. Called them first about a question we had and not only did they answer it fully and confidently, but they were very polite and friendly. In person was even better—came out to our car to see what supplies we had already gotten (as we had gotten a used tank and some equipment and such from someone), offered solid advice that was not veiled “buy buy buy” stuff that often happens with retail places. Everyone was positive, willing to help (even with my nervousness and my father’s complete lack of knowledge on anything fish related) and despite being fairly busy took time to work with us. Definitely will be returning to get more fish and supplies!

I love everything about this place. It is 100% family owned and operated. My daughter left her Binky there and they picked it up and put it in a bag under the counter for us to pick up next time we were there. They are more than willing to answer any and all questions you have to make sure that you are 100% comfortable with setting up an aquarium. Whether you are a beginner or someone who has been in the hobby for years and years and just needs some refresher information. I highly recommend this place to everyone that is interested in fish and aquariums/ponds. Almost every fish in all of our aquariums have come from the store.

This store has an amazing selection. I’ve never had issues with their fish, always healthy. Also very helpful and friendly. I have a son who has asthma, so we have been social distancing and taking the covid pandemic seriously. When we need supplies or fish, we just call them on the phone, place an order, and they bring it all out to our car. And they have been happy to do it. Great local business. If you are thinking about having a fish tank, give them a call. They are very knowledgeable and patient with people like me who are still learning. They will get you up and running. Love this place!

Okay hands down this is the best place I have ever been to for any fish related things. I love coming in, looking at all the fish, saying hi to my favorites and they'll let you do your thing! I have bought 6 fish from them so far, and they are all doing great! They play and get along and it is rewarding to look at these healthy playful fish compared to some places. I will be buying some plants here tomorrow, as I invested in bigger tanks. Super helpful, super friendly and you can tell they are compassionate. I hope Steve gets better!

Updated review: Most recent experience was not a great one and had a very condescending staff member. Ive been coming here for 12 plus years and staff in the past have always been nice and never condescending, educating very politely. My latest experience was out of the norm. for this place but it was definitely not a 5 star visit. I hope this is just a one time thing and my experience here will be better like it was before. Old review- 5 stars: Best place for fish, especially bettas. Best customer service you will get anywhere.

Lots to choose from and great prices. Everyone I talked with on the phone or that helped me when I got there was super polite and very knowledgeable. The girl that helped me even told me what to do if I got stuck in a traffic jam on my way back to Salem with my new baby pirhannahs to keep them alive. I did and it worked and we all made it home safe and sound! Such great service! I wish more places really cared about their customers and pets like these people do. Excellent service at Caye's. The people really know their stuff and their prices smash on pet smart. Just bought a 20 gallon fresh water tank with a full setup for everything one would need for under 150 and comes with free fish. Tank looks great and I had zero pressure to buy anything in their. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone as well as I will be buying a larger tank sometime in the future. Great selection of fish as well. Owners are who I talked to and this place all in all is 5 stars+!

They were very helpful on my first visit. After scouring the pet store franchises and my local mom and pop pet store it is obvious these folks are head and shoulders above the rest. Also their prices were better. In some cases, way better. I needed some tank mates, driftwood and a live plant for my betta rescue and they set me up very well. I will definitely be returning for more live plants and fish in the near future. Definitely a 5 star establishment.

One of my favorite shops. Very clean and they get some unique fish/plants that you can’t find without going to Portland. Staff is always helpful and knowledgeable. Update. They lost a customer today. I came in to buy one thing and I was not even acknowledged when I walked in and I was ignored as the owner stood and chatted with another customer for over 10 minutes about nothing related to fish. I left.

Great Aquarium store! I’ve been going around to several fish stores today looking for a certain type of plant and these guys had it. Not only that, but I actually got help from the staff. At the other fish stores I had to put my name on a list to be helped or just no one was around to offer help. I’ll be coming here from now on for all my aquarium needs. Prices were some of the best I’ve seen too!

I went there with my grandma today. The service is great. The tanks are very well maintained and they have awesome deals. 176 for a whole tank set up and 8 dollars worth of free fish. Its cheaper than buying all of them separately. The first time we came they were super nice and helpful with my grandma. They seem to love their job. Tanks aren't over stocked like most fish stores.

As a newbie, helpful with set up and tips as well as growth. Nothing local that we drove a bit to check to check out their store. Much more willing to shop here than the retail stores. The fish we wanted wasn't ready to be sold, but they were very good with alternatives. They knew most customers by name, which made me feel like they care about their fish and their customers.

My go to place and close to home!! Cristi is always super helpful and always willing to teach us newbies!! And the guy who tests my water on Saturday’s is awesome too!! I put my full trust in Cayes with my saltwater tank. So Far all fish have been healthy. They won’t sell me anything unless perimeters are perfect. Appreciate all you guys do especially in these crazy times!!

I love this place. The employees are always willing to help you out. They were able to help me pick out fish that would do well together in a tank and let me know which to avoid with the fish I already have. There aren't too many supplies but the large variety of fish surely makes up for that. I would highly recommend anybody to come here rather than a big chain pet store.

It's nothing like Wet Spot on Sandy but that's not always a bad thing. Prices are better and the service is more personal. For a small shop the selection is good and sometimes they have hard-to-find stuff. It's a bit loud and a bit messy but the tanks are clean and well maintained. I am sensitive to noise so I do wish they would do something about the loud pumps and sumps.

I have been going here for years (15+) but had moved around the country for the last 7. The gentleman that works there still recognized me and we had a talk for a bit. The staff and service alone make this place worth while but they have so much more than just that. Their knowledge of aquarium keeping is second to none and shows that it's not just a job but a passion.

Knowledgeable, proficient and very caring staff. Get all my fish and plants there. Tell them what you want and they'll tell you what will work. They won't sell you incompatible species without giving you a disclaimer and recommending a better match. Not about just making a buck but about a true passion for what they do. Would give six stars if I were able to.

What a great store. The lady working at the counter was incredibly attentive and nice and had the answers we needed. Having been to some stinky fish stores this one was top notch, clean and even though it was muggy as every fish store is, it still felt very clean. Wonderful selection of fresh water fish and certainly coming back when we look to buy more!

It’s a local fish store so don’t expect anything massive, the place is quite nice though (it’s humid because well there is water everywhere) the fish seem to be in much better condition and are more happy here then other large brand stores. Overall a beautiful place to shop for fish, I will definitely be coming back for the emerald eye rasboras

I don't even like Bettas and I ended up buying two as they were so beautiful. There is a good selection of fish and they are fairly priced. Definitely recommend this place.

Inspired me to buy not one, but two aquariums. SO helpful, knowledgeable, patient, and passionate. Yes, I drive twenty minutes past multiple pet stores to get to Caye’s. Will replace a fish that has died within 24 hours of bringing it home too. And free water testing! If you’re considering buying a fish, GO HERE. Not Petco!

I would classify Cayes more as a fish store than an aquarium. My lady and I go here regularly when we're looking for a new fish or special treats for our existing fish. They also are willing to purchase most types of fish from you. While Cayes is not the only fish store we go to it's definitely our preferred/favorite one.

My favorite fish store to go to. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. While not as large or well stocked as the wet spot, they do have a great selection of both fresh and salt water fish and aquatic plants. They have also ordered fish for me they didnt have in stock. Best of all they take fish for trade(store credit)

This aquarium shop had some really cool fish but not the ones I wanted… I was searching for oranda goldfish and they had only 2 for sale I saw this yellow one that looked really cool but it was for display only, this aquarium shop was overall Clean and most fish looked healthy.

Mom and pa type of shop, honestly some of the nicest people running a fish store. They are extremely honest and thoughtful when it comes to tank setups. And they know the most about each individual fish species compared to any store I've been to
