When you first walk in there is a hostess that seats you. We were greeted by no one, and I walked up to where a girl was standing behind the hostess podium which later found her name to be Alexis. She had a really bad attitude, and she took us to a table I requested a booth, and I asked can we sit here she tossed the menus on the booth and walked away. Then came a bubbly happy server Maliahya (not sure on the spelling at the moment) She was quick to tell us about the menu, and we told her we had never been there,so she went into further details about her recommendations. We got our food after her checking on us several times pretty quickly. Food is a little small on the proportions compared to the cost, and the BBQ style in my opinion. The pulled pork was a little dry. The BBQ sauce is good. The reason I am giving this place a 3 stars is Price to portion size, and the attitude from the hostess. If the server hadn't turned it around it would have been lower. The server needs a raise, especially with a hostess like that.

Came in from out of town to try this BBQ. Parking in the parking garage was convenient, you can smell the BBQ from the street! Walking into Char Bar was super easy as we were greeted immediately. My family and I chose to sit outside since this years summer has been amazing so far! Astro turf was pretty clean and as we got seated one of the servers helped us get our umbrella situated. Three minutes later our main server Nolan answered every question we had about both drinks and food. Nolan needs a raise for the way he treated us. I cannot emphasize that enough he was seriously awesome! We ordered two Womp platters with some tater salad, sweet potato fries, some tasty slaw, and all the fixings. Everything was fantastic!! Perfectly seasoned and smoked. I would say that the regular fries that came out were a bit too seasoned for my tasting but we still ate it. There were plenty of games available to play while you wait and we barely played cornhole ten minutes before our food came out which is seriously impressive. Thanks for the great experience tonight!

Got served a rotten potato. I've been here multiple times and the food has always been great. We went a couple of days ago and ordered the loaded Jojo potatoes. They're big chunks of potato covered in cheese, bacon, etc. I cut a piece off a big chunk and ate it before realizing that the piece of the potato was completely black and rotted. The toppings disguised the flavor enough that I didn't immediately realize what was wrong. We double-checked with our server to confirm they don't use purple potatoes or something. They said they do not and took the food away. The server's apology wasn't particularly genuine considering we were served rotten vegetables (I know that part isn't the server's fault specifically). We did not order entrees lol. Picture is the rotten potato in the bottom left compared to what the normal ones looked like. It's concerning that the kitchen staff either didn't notice or chose not to throw it away.

Came in from out of town for a weekend event, and happened to need to grab a bite to eat in the area. I never could have expected that I would wind up having one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. We walked in just in time for the Sunday fried chicken, and let me tell you, it taste like grandma’s.We also got the Holy Trinity (right up there with Jack Stacks and Q39). Everything on the plate was top notch. Besides the food, the service was incredible as well, and we had a wonderful time talking to our bartender. 11/10 will find a way to come back.

We’ve always loved Char Bar but haven’t been for a few years. Came through KC today and wanted to have lunch somewhere that would accommodate us with our dog since we are traveling. Our server, Joe B, did a fabulous job dealing with our chaos as we tried to feed and manage a baby, toddler and pup. We were impressed and thankful at how quickly the food came out. Their brown bag lunch special was a pretty good deal. We each had a burnt end sandwich—delicious. We like their BBQ sauce, but it is very much on the sweet side. The spicy sauce wasn’t very spicy. Regular and sweet potato fries were great. The broccoli/bacon side, not so much. Beans were pretty good. Our daughter’s Turkey sandwich from the kids meal looked the same as an adult size, so we helped her eat it, and it was also delicious. The highlight of this place is the outdoor patio scene for sure. We loved it and will be back next time we pass through!

Solid BBQ. It was good to be back in KC and this place held the standard you come to expect. The ribs were nice, a little lighter on the meat than I'd like, but the flavor was good. The sausage and assorted meats platter was solid. The turkey was ok, but the pork options were done well. Their fries were nice. We did a ton of sides, and I am pretty opinionated on Cole slaw. You can tell a quality BBQ establishment off the quality of their coleslaw (usually)- and theirs was great. They had bacon in it. That is a first! BACON. Tater salad, beans and Mac n cheese were ok and they had a couple of salad sides also. The beans had a nice spice. The hush puppies are worth the try. They also have several sauces, I enjoyed them all. They served it on the side, which is the right way to go!

My MC BBQ Journey: I’m in Kansas City for the year, and I plan to try a new bbq spot each week. Char Bar was on the list for this week. I got the half slab rib dinner which was quite tasty. The ribs were juicy, well sized, and had tons of flavor. The sweet and spicy sauces on the side complemented the meat well. The Texas toast was also a nice touch. The sides weren’t great to be honest. I got the baked beans and the potato salad. Smallish portions and the flavor didn’t stand out. I could’ve done without the sides, especially because the ribs were so delicious. Great atmosphere with friendly staff. I’ll have to come back and dine in some time.

I reserved a table online with special Instructions about our special needs child needing an area with no stairs and a bit away from the main area. We were seated right in the middle of the restaurant down the stairs. I have eaten here several times, but today it seems something was off with the meat. It didn’t have that Char Bar flavor I am accustomed to enjoying. It’s almost like the char was left out. This was true for the ribs, brisket and burnt ends. The turkey, and sausage tasted great. Even the beans tasted off. Not sure what it was but I am disappointed. We were treating some friends of ours to an early Christmas dinner and had really talked up the food. Today’s food just didn’t taste great.

Start with a refreshing drink such as the Horsefeather. Both, the cheesy hushpuppies and loaded jo-jo potatoes were amazingly delicious with their own ingredients. My husband loved the flavorful Salmon BLT Club. Service was attentive, polite and friendly. I loved to look around at the repurposed light fixtures and wall mural Char Bar has an all access lift to sit in the lower dining area

Char Bar is my favorite barbecue restaurant in KC. The inside atmosphere is great with a fun, lively vibe that's perfect for a night out with friends along with the outdoor yard game area to keep you busy with some drinks afterward. The server I had on my most recent visit, Brendan, did an excellent job and was extremely friendly and helpful. The menu has a selection of barbecue classics along with some unique options that you won't find anywhere else. My personal favorite is the Bits n’ Grits! The drinks are also top-notch, with a great selection of local beers and creative cocktails. Overall, I would highly recommend Char Bar to anyone looking for a great barbecue restaurant with a fun atmosphere and unique and amazing barbecue food.

We were hungry for some KC BBQ and decided to stop in for the first time. The restaurant atmosphere is great and we were seated immediately. The food & beer was fantastic, we couldn't have asked for anything better. While the sandwiches were priced well but the sides are overpriced imo. $6-12 for a side on top of the sandwhich is too expensive. The sides were good to be fair but this place can get pretty pricey. Overall we enjoyed the meal and got exactly what we wanted.

The star dish here is the burnt ends. Big thick pieces of brisket with plenty of bark and fat. Brisket is solid, sausage is solid with good flavor Don’t bother with the ham. Beans were great. They have so much meat, it’s almost chili. Potato salad is solid. Chicken nugget appetizer is a great idea and a good sharing app. Also liked the bits and things app. The “hush puppies” were ok, I wouldn’t order that again. Side of cornbread is great for the table. Liked the extra sauces and stuff it comes with. Crème brûlée was ok, bread pudding isn’t my thing but was popular on the table. Surly grapefruit beer on tap along with several other good local brews. Good food and great service, we will be back. Would love to come back when the outdoor area is open too.

We stumbled into this place by chance, it's right around the corner of the comedy club we went to for a date night. Fantastic barbecue, there was no wait but the place was pretty busy. I got the 2 meat tray with the naked burnt ends and turkey breast- delicious my sides were coleslaw and potato salad which were both great. Hubby tried The Whole Hog and he absolutely loved it! The ribs were perfection, the pulled pork was yummy and the hand cranked sausage was exceptional his sides were bacon broccoli slaw and BBQ Pit beans. We will definitely be back!

Very yummy BBQ! I can't believe this was my first time here! I got the 2 meat plate with baked beans & potato salad. Hubs got the same but fries & baked beans as the sides. My meats were brisket & Turkey. The Turkey was good but the brisket was better!! I really liked the sides and the sauce was yummy. They have sweet & spicy bbq sauce on the table. My daughter had the sausage/burnt end grits. She thought they were okay but says too much parmesan. I didn't taste it so I can't really rate it. My 4 year old had chicken strips & fries, simple but good. Overall, I liked their menu, there were lots of options! Customer service was great. We will return for sure

Great place for nearly any group. Food is fantastic and there's a great outdoor yard to play in while you wait. We've visited with and without kids and it works great either way. It's definitely suited to warmer temps so I wouldn't seek it out in the winter as you miss some of the most unique features. The only gripe is it's a bit overpriced, but not so much as to deter us from a visit every time we're in KC.

We ordered the smoked chicken nuggets, The Whomp platter, charred cowboy cauliflower, bacon broccoli slaw, bbq pit beans. There was 5 of us in total and stick had some leftovers! Nuggets were super tender and sauces matched well. The platter came with Burnt ends- fantastic Half slab of ribs- fell of the bone Pulled pork- chewy Pit ham- typical Brisket- Great cook line! Tender! Sausage- typical Bbq were little underwhelming, But bacon broccoli and cowboy cauliflower were delicious! Would definitely come again and it's top 9!

Definitely stop by if you’re visiting Kansas City! We went here with a large group and tried a bit of everything. The appetizers were a strong start! I don’t even like hush puppies and they were my favorite. You have to try them. Other top highlights were the smoked wings with a delicious ranch, and the grits and bits. ALL were gone. We loved the bits so much, we ordered more in our entrees. The burnt ends, fire! Brisket, delicious. The waiter recommended this cherry cider that was so good. Save room for the peach bread pudding. That ice cream on top was delicious.

Decided to grab a quick bite to eat. Never been to this restaurant but wanted to try. The atmosphere was infectious due to the outside patio and multitude of games that were offered such as corn hole, bocce, and dogs galore. We chose a seat at the bar and it was very busy, our server was good he allowed me to taste two samples of beers. Our order consisted of 2 CBGR* Burgers w Kale Salad. The burger was medium-well and the Kale Salad was a 10. The chairs were very uncomfortable at the bar, but I would definitely go back!

Just had a WHOMP! platter with my husband and teenage son--it was so much food we took half of it home! Delicious food and a great value; we especially liked the ribs, turkey, and pulled pork. Excellent beer and cider selection. James was our waiter and he was phenomenal--gave great recommendations and brought all the right take-home containers for our leftovers the first time. The weather wasn't conducive to hanging out on the patio, but it looked like it could be a lot of fun on a warmer day. We'd go back!

First time here, and it won't be my last! Char Bar did not disappoint! I got the smoked wings, with a side of smoked cauliflower and the kale pecarino slaw. It was all amazing! We sat on the outdoor patio where my toddler could run around and play with the outdoor activities they have. I can't wait to go back and try all of the other delicious options they offer. It quickly replaced my previous favorite bbq joint in KC.

The Whomp! Platter is the selection of all barbecue smoked meats and it feeds at least 3 people. The broccoli bacon salad tastes great. Potato salad is so delicious and creamy. It is one of the best in KC, if you wanna try a wonderful barbecue restaurant with a good quality and beautiful design. They also have outdoor seating, and a spacious indoor dining area. You can choose from different beer options. Mango cart is recommended. The staff are very friendly, and even the manager checks on every table every once in a while to make sure everything is alright.

Where have you been hiding you little gem? On a side street from a busy midtown grocery store . . . tucked off Westport's Main Drag. Absolutely loved the grits with sausage, burnt ends, and bacon. The BBQ sauce has a kick that sets it apart from local 'Ques but a very pleasant surprise was a sincere welcome by the hostess and my server, Casey. She was informative, friendly, and attentive. A refreshing change to find a server excited about her menu and venue--not just an order taker. I will definitely be back for the outdoor patio experience.

Outstanding combo plates. More than enough for a sensible person to eat. Everybody had their own favorites. Mine were the burnt tips, wife liked sausage, granddaughters liked ham and ribs, daughter liked ribs, and son-in-law thought chicken was excellent but voted for trying ribs without sause next time. Just moved to the KC area and heard about Char Bar. On my second day in town I went for dinner and absolutely loved the food and the atmosphere. What a great place. Even though I live about a half hour away I will be making it there often. If you like burnt ends and brisket you have to eat here. Best BBQ I have ever eaten. The baked beans that come with the meal were also excellent. My server also told me about the Cheesy Hushpuppies and they were amazing. A must go to place.

Lovely bbq experience at char bar. Their Kansas City restaurant week menu was awesome and we were so full by the time we got to dessert. I loved the duck gumbo because it was very savory but was disappointed by the deconstructed strawberry pie in a cup. It tasted like a syrupy parfait with granola at the bottom. Their creme brûlée was delicious though and would recommend.

Atmosphere had a relaxing vibe & loved the indoor/outdoor spaces. They opened the large door between the 2 spaces since it was beautiful outside & we really enjoyed that. Definitely geared towards a younger adult crowd in my opinion. Food was pretty good & portions were good size. Service didn't start off the greatest but improved a little bit as the evening went on. Limited street parking but there is a garage just down the road with clear signage that offers plenty.

I have had this place on my list for a long time. Not a convenient location or parking but we went as a group. Most of our group enjoyed this. One person said it was the best ever. To me it was just ok. Brisket was dry and no smoke flavor. The turkey was ok. The sauce was good. We had a couple of good onion rings, others were not. I was told the other sandwich was a win. Seemed pricey to most of the group. Not worth the drive for the price. If you enjoy Westport or live that way, it would be a good option.

The food was delicious! Tender burnt ends, moist ribs, and flavorful brisket along side some yummy bbq beans and potato salad. The side upgrade to french fries is well worth $1 as the fries are amazing (comparable to KC Joes). The sandwich was insanely good!! All the different types of meats were tasty and not dry at all. Definitely try their burnt ends. The fries costed extra and were not crispy at all, pretty mediocre. The drink I got from the bar was also disappointing. Overall, it’s pricey but the BBQ is worth it. Would be interested to try more on the menu!

Great food, great atmosphere, nice staff! Love the outdoor area with yard games! Pretty unique! The wings were worth every penny, didn't need any ranch or any extra sauce in my opinion. One of the best wings I've had! The sandwich was also very tasty, wish it would of came with fries instead of being extra but oh well it's only money

Corn bread muffins! Big ol Breasts... of chicken great food. Waiter was great and very accommodating. On the other hand hostess seemed like she hated her job and gave off the typical Westport vibes

Great atmosphere and nice vegetarian options. The jackfruit barbecue sandwich was very tasty and the fried pickles were delicious. The crispy Jo Jo potatoes were outstanding. The beer and small batch bourbon selection is really impressive. Friendly staff make this a great place for groups.

Stopped there for dinner. The place was pretty amazing. It has an outside area you can play games and bring your dog if you'd like. The food was fresh quick and hot. Highly recommended to out of of town folks like us.

Love barbecue so had to try this place. Great place and has indoor and outdoor seating. Plenty of options to choose from so give a 2 meat or 3 meat plater a try if you want to try as much as you can. Great food and fast service.

Really great BBQ! We came in town to visit family and they brought us here. We got a grilled cheese and The Holy Trinity. Food was well seasoned. House sauces were flavorful. They have a huge menu of beers and different drinks. We’ll definitely be back!

We had the Smoky Chicken Nuggets and the Cheesy Hush puppies and both were fantastic. I highly recommend the Cheesy Hush puppies. The service was friendly and fast, even though we were a large group. There's also additional parking that's not on the street in a garage that's pretty easy to access which was nice.

Visited my brother for the holidays this year who is new to KC. We decided to come here for some barbecue and we were so blown away. Everything was so delicious. Best BBQ I’ve had so far.

Solid BBQ, atmosphere is very cosmopolitan. Our waiter was a nice guy and was almost too attentive. Drinks were on the pricy side. $10 for a glass of boulevard.

Stopped in on our way through Kansas City. Very cool place, with great food, fun atmosphere (wish we could have stayed longer), and really good service. The burnt ends and smoked turkey were soooo good, very tender and moist with a great smoky flavor.

The restaurant / venue offers what I consider the best of all you want in a Barbecue, Bar and Sport watching experience. We were visiting from Pittsburgh and really enjoyed the food and the usual friendly KC peoples. Definitely worth the visit if you are looking for a great BBQ place to enjoy with friends and co-workers. More

VEGETARIAN FRIENDLY - Would 10/10 recommend and greatly appreciated their variety of options for those who eat meat and those who don’t. I loved the jackfruit BBQ (jackknife sandwich) while my friend loved their brisket cheesesteak. Kind service team and quickly received our food after ordering! More

The ribs had an absolutely delicious smokey flavor and were falling off the bone! The brisket was a little tough, but also had just the right amount of smoke and seasoning. If I'm ever back in Kansas City, I will definitely visit again!

The food was very good. We sat at a high top table near the bar. Our server walked past our table at least a dozen times, each time walking past my empty glass. When we asked for the check, he did offer a refill, lol. I can recommend the Triple Crown. Very good sandwich.

Service was very good. BBQ was not to my taste. Never had ribs served with what appeared to be the spine still attached. Beans were dry with not much flavor. Burnt ends were fatty. Nice atmosphere but if you want top notch KC BBQ there are much better places. More

Nice atmosphere.. great food.. but I think the turkey breast has too much smoke flavor on it.. I had leftovers for 3 days .. Ask for extra cheese on your Mac and cheese it's to die for

As a southerner born and bred, I really hated the sauces and wish it was served on the side. The bread was a little stale. I wasn’t a fan of the beans, but they let me send them back for an extra potato salad which I am very picky about and

This place is great, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is cool. There is an outdoor okay area, and a parking garage that's free. The burnt heaven is such a good sandwich. I highly recommend getting the jalapeno corn bread muffins,

If service is a priority, this isn’t always going to be your place. The best and most underrated BBQ in the city. Unfortunately, the service never gets close to the quality of the food. It’s a real shame because if the service was better,

First time here….we had the chicken nugget appetizer: think they were a bit overcooked, our least favorite item we ordered. For our meal my hubby got the Sunday chicken dinner and I got the brisket mac n cheese. Soooo good!! The chicken
