This library unfortunately has gone down since COVID hit I think. The staff became so dry. Somethings off about the older African American woman who usually always has an attitude when approached with questions by individuals who are looking for help while she’s sitting behind either help desk. I’ve observed this so many times. I avoid her at all cost. If she’s the only one there, I just don’t ask any questions. The staff is always so noisy and I’m unsure if they have a private room for studying or not but since we don’t have internet at home, I’m trying to tutor my kids and do my homework when I can. Doors should be built on both of the separate children’s room spaces. The fullness of the place kinda makes me depressed now walking in. The nice nerdy guy with the glasses and orange hair is ALWAYS so helpful and polite. Love asking him for help when we need clarity.
I really miss homeschooling my children at this location. We always made a lot of mommy friends and that is a serious thing that I will miss. Since the Covid situation has happened, socializing has been very hard for my children and I. But anyways, I just wanted to highlight an employee for their bright personality. Even though the world is in the state that it is currently ... I would love to highlight Ms. Erin, because every single time I call in a print or have a question ✋ she answers the phone I know that she will be nothing but pleasant. Thank you for being so sweet.
Large sized Library. Cool found rooms throughout. Two computer lab with an additional area with adult and children computers. Children's area -Large room for storytime with preschool aged books - play area with puzzles, toys, other activity's and early reader area. - large non fiction area -room with children's fiction books and audio books -small children's DVD section Family storytime was nice, but it did seem a bit more geared towards the older children. The Storyteller was very engaging and entertaining. Other library staff was very friendly and helpful as well
This would be a great library if it wasn’t so LOUD IN HERE!!!! What happened to librarians sushing everyone? Every time I come here it’s so unusualy loud for a library. I find people talking loudly on their phones, the kids in the teen area holding court and carrying on as if they are somewhere else and not in the very center of the library, even the librarians shout to one another! I came to the library looking for a quiet place to study and I can’t even hear myself think...
It's a nice enough library, but if you're actually going for a quiet place to be this is NOT the one to go to. Kids from the school across the street come over and treat it like an afterschool program and it's SO SO LOUD!! The staff does absolutely nothing to help and it's just unbearable. Seriously, something needs to be done. Get a better security guard or something that will actually help the people who come to have a real library experience.
I love this library!! It is an amazing place to study, plus they office 3 hours of validated parking, so what's not to like? My favorite thing are all the windows. A lot of libraries feel like stuffy office buildings with hardly any light, but this library has windows going across at least 2 of the walls so it's usually pretty bright. There are usually plenty of seats and outlets for studying. It's definitely my go to study spot.
We love this library. They have a great children's department. The family story time (ages 0-5) at 10:30 Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday is fun, interactive and instructive. They do reading, singing and dancing all while teaching. It's a great place to spend a morning with your little ones. The only thing we don't love is the lack of toys. They have some just not very many. It would be nice if they got a few more.
Those kids from the school come over and make a lot of noise. One even stole my sunglasses because I made a reservation to get online, on the same computer he was trying to use. Those kids are a bunch of knuckleheads who have no home training. Because of them they don't allow us to download anything on the computers and you can't even any music videos on YouTube because of those children.
The manager who engages in elder abuse also abuses the entire staff and gets off on it. She’s a pathetic, petty human being whose poison is spread through the entire branch. She’s why so many employees have quit that particular library. Her misery is palatable and CML should be ashamed to enable such abusive behavior, but it’s not. The patrons at Independence deserve better.
One of the ladies of the staff is so loud when she talks and when I told her to please lower her voice, she was very rude to me. It's so sad how people that should be the example to others are leading others in the wrong direction, may God have mercy over this nation! Libraries are not that educational and professional anymore.
I don't like this ghetto library. The staff allow people to do whatever they want. Those rude patrons talk on their phones loudly and play their music loudly and the staff says nothing to them. It's more like a school cafeteria in there than a library. The staff is nice but weak. They don't enforce any of the rules.
It’s a nice place to go in the morning and the staff is great but after the school let out that’s across the street the kids come in it becomes noisy you will not be able to get your work done it’s very loud and no one says anything to tell the kids it’s a library not a social gathering but overall nice library
We have taken advantage of a few virtual programs for preschoolers/elementary students. Each program has been well thought out and fun for my kiddos! Every visit to this location has been a positive experience. Friendly staff and organized pick ups for kits needed for virtual programs. Thank you!!
This is a great place I really like it but the only problem I had is that a few girls came by and were talking about inappropriate things and they knew one of the staffs but she did not do anything I am very disappointed but I have to admit I will go back hopefully they take better look at this
If you are looking for a really library that is on the smaller end of things then you should definitely check out the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library - Independence Regional. This place has some very cool people working here and the wifi here is great if you don't have intranet.
As a volunteer at Independence Regional, I can say that the staff is absolutely the best! Always friendly, welcoming, involved and very knowledgeable. It’s always a pleasure to be there and be a part of the fun!
Not a pleasant library. Students from the high school across the street overrun this branch at all times. The "security" guard just sits up front and ignores everything occurring. Some students will harass you.
From security at entrance to counter staff, everyone was extremely friendly, helpful and very professional. It was my first visit and I was pleased with my experience and definitely will return when needed.
Nice location staff is all ways friendly. Just watch out when the high school gets out around 2:30 or 3pm weekdays students come over and want to hang out and talk loud while your trying to read and work.
The manager of this library engages in elder abuse. She talks down to her employees, not what I want to hear when I enter a library. Very poor example of the Public Library in Mecklenburg County.
Very nice staff! But that was the loudest library in America. Even in the quiet section in back of library had people yelling and on the phone. Very weird that the rules aren't enforced.
The staff is always helpful and pleasant, they smile a lot and greet you acordinly. This is a good place to take a break from the craze in your day and relaxed with a pleasant attidute.
This library is clean quiet and convenient. I was able to get in and out quickly and take care of the business I needed on their computer. I also love that they are open until 8pm.
Independence regional and the University location are my fav. The staff is always super helpful, the selection is great. If they don't have it they it they will find it
I am so happy about the teen programs they have for the kids. It's absolutely amazing the different things that are offered every day after school.
I use their FREE WI FI by sitting SAFELY in my car in their parking lot, not worrying about being close to other people. …
This library is too loud! The patrons and staff are rude and hey talk extremely loudly, carrying on as if they were in a restaurant.
IT IS ALWAYS A DELIGHT GOING TO INDEPENDENCE REGIONAL LIBRARY. THE STAFF IS ALWAYS WELCOMING AND OFFER TO HELP IN ANY WAY THEY CAN.
The keyboards in the room with 4 computers need to be cleaned sanatized on a regular basis. Especially during times like this.
The Independence Branch of Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Library is a great place to go. Great staff and good selection!
I used the printer and color copier for free! Picked up some DVDs to watch right before closing. Very convenient!!
The purpose of my visit was to use the internet .the staff were superfrieindly .ill definitely return
Loudest library ever... every time I come in here. They have no control over the kids in here.
Great library. Yet again, what library is bad? If it has books, all other things are gravy.
