Describing an experience with working with Sean is almost impossible to put into words. From Day 1 Sean is there for you. He will ask you the set of goals that you want to achieve and work with you to get them. No matter how many hours he spends analyzing your strengths and weaknesses to figure out the best training program developed specifically for you, he will do it. Sean's knowledge and not to mention his experience is the greatest assets that you can utilize. Week in and week out he is constantly going to improve on your programming as his attention to detail is astonishing. Even the smallest weakness in your form, he will turn into a strength and trust me when I say if you think you have worked out all your weakness, he still manages to find them, he is that good! In working with Sean, I can honestly say that there wasn't a lift that I did not set a personal record on. On my snatch in one month of working with him I hit a 20 pound PR compared to following a generic programming before hand and I hadn't hit a Pr in 6 months. If it is not just lifting that you are looking to develop, trust me when I say Sean is more than happy to develop your conditioning. This guy knows how to properly develop your metabolic conditioning without just throwing a bunch of random workouts your way like most places will. Whether it be lifting, conditioning, or both Sean will work on anything and everything that you want to develop as an athlete. He is more than a coach, he is a friend. He is a friend that is constantly going to be emailing you every week on things that he felt you killed during the week and those details that you never would have saw on your own that could use improvement. His programming is worth every penny and I am thankful everyday that I chose to contact him! I recommend this to anyone from the serious athlete to the ones looking to develop themselves! You will not be disappointed!

I was an athlete for heavy metal barbell club with 24/7 access to the gym which was amazing. You can train at your own time or during the coached hours if you want feedback on your lifts. I’ve been a remote athlete since January 2023 and have had great success with the programming. I am currently active duty military and enjoy the flexibility and consistency the program offers. Even though I have been in multiple locations/gyms, the gym programming has still been able to accommodate for my training no matter where I was. The program comes to my app every week, making it easy to plan my days around various other physical activities I am involved in. The app shows demonstration videos for technique and I’ve had access to coaches through chat whenever I had questions. The program takes you step by step through movement and rep schemes and the app keeps track of my numbers and PRs. I really enjoy the ease of use for my remote programming. I highly recommend Heavy Metal Barbell Club for anyone looking to improve as an Olympic weightlifter.

Charlotte Strength has it all: a wonderful facility, knowledgeable coaches, and a supportive community of members. I regularly attend their NoDa Fit classes and while each class is challenging, every movement is scalable to meet each and every student at their individual level. I recently completed the Barbell Basics course offered at the gym and encourage anyone who is interested in learning how to lift safely and effectively to take this course. Class size is small so that each student receives individual attention and feedback on their form. Over the course of six weeks, we worked on learning how to complete a wide variety of lifts while increasing our strength and knowledge. Of note: Charlotte Strength has done an excellent job of keeping their environment safe for members by requiring the use of masks and cleaning equipment well. It also helps that their space is huge and features open air during good weather. I highly recommend Charlotte Strength!

Charlotte Strength is so much more than just a gym -- it's truly a great community of people who are there to support you in your fitness goals, no matter what your level is. I am almost always lifting the least amount of weight in the room, but the coaches in the Noda Fit classes pay just as much attention to me as they do to the other athletes who are lifting 3-5x more weight. The coaches will encourage you, train you, and celebrate small and big wins with you. They'll check in on you if you haven't been to class for a while. They make morning classes fun, and make the 6am wake up worth it. As someone who is new to Charlotte and works from home, joining Charlotte Strength has been a great way to make friends, get out of the house, and start my day with a good workout in a great community. :)

Can't say enough good things about this gym. I recently made the move to weightlifting as my full time training regimen and Sean and Taylor at HMBC have been a huge reason for that change. With a focus on technique, strength and safety, this is a great gym for the experienced and novice lifter alike. Each class begins with a dynamic warmup which is something I have neglected in the past. The workouts themselves are programmed well and can be tailored based on an individual lifters fitness levels. I have seen immense strength gains in a short time. Sean and Taylor bring a host of knowledge from their time as team members of MuscleDriver and it shows at all levels of training from mobility, to technique to diet.

This is easily my favorite gym I have been to in Charlotte. The coaches and community have all been super helpful and welcoming. Sean and Tayler (owners) seem focused on building the best gym and community possible. With an unlimited membership, you get access to “CrossFit”, Olympic Weightlifting, and Strength programming at a very reasonable price! The gym also has 24/7 access and has multiple community events and even Yoga and a small run club on Thursday nights! They also offer a beginner barbell program for all new lifters to help establish proper technique and fundamentals. If you’re new and unsure, definitely still come check it out. You will not be disappointed!

  • Brian Trippodo

Charlotte Strength is an amazing place for all fitness and skill levels. I took their Barbell Basics class a few months back as a newbie who knew almost nothing about lifting and was able to learn a lot fundamentals in a supportive & fun environment. Now I am participating in their NoDa Fit classes and loving them. It is a great mixture being challenged, learning new skills, a lot of hard work, along with comradery and plenty of encouragement. I feel like joining a gym can be very intimidating for someone who doesn't know a lot about fitness, but the Charlotte Strength folks are very welcoming without being pushy at all. Do yourself a favor and check them out!

  • Mary Grob

Best gym in the greater Charlotte area. I’ve been a member for over a year and have nothing but great things to say about this place. I do a mix of the CrossFit and weightlifting programing, and both are fantastic. The quality of coaching is unparalleled. And best of all, their staff really cares about everyone. I’ve been to so many gyms over the years where the coaches gravitate towards the top athletes, leaving the rest behind. Not here. The staff is just as invested in you if you’re moving an empty barbell as when your slinging all the weight. And this place has a lot of weight to sling—everything you could want in a gym, plus an amazing sauna!

I began my fitness journey a few years back with the goal of weight loss. I signed up for your typical metcon focused group fitness class. It worked, briefly. However, I never felt like I belonged there. I was never going to be fast enough or thin enough. These classes didn’t help me obtain my goal. They did however, bring me an amazing discover, Coach Tayler Harris. She introduced me to Olympic weightlifting. Through her guidance and coaching I found myself. Being strong doesn’t require a specific body type. Coach Taylor has taught me not only how to hit big lifts but also how to be comfortable in my own body and that is priceless.

  • Audra Burtch

A great gym, a great community and great programming! I love that they offer both Olympic Lifting and CrossFit programming. I came to Charlotte Strength wanting to improve my Olympic Lifting, frustrated that my power cleans/snatches were stronger than my squat cleans/snatches. I knew it was a technique issue but never really had eyes on me to see exactly what. Within two months of doing Heavy Metal Barbell Club programming I was able to finally match my squat to my power lifts. I know with more time I will see even more progress! The coaches are friendly, knowledgeable and attentive! I highly recommend Charlotte Strength!

  • Amanda Rudnik

Charlotte Strength is one of the best gyms in Charlotte for weightlifting enthusiasts. The coaches here are phenomenal—dedicated, knowledgeable, and always ready with insightful feedback to enhance your technique. The atmosphere feels like family, creating a supportive and motivating environment which puts you at ease to perform at your best. The facility is impressively clean and spacious, offering ample room to work out comfortably. If you're serious about improving your weightlifting skills while feeling part of an incredible community, this is the place to be!

  • Dean Osborne

I can't say enough positive things about Charlotte Strength. After taking Barbell Basics last year, I dove into the Heavy Metal Barbell program. It's been challenging to say the least. I feel totally supported by the knowledgeable and professional coaches. I get helpful feedback on technique in a positive way. We just had the opportunity to discuss and refine goals for the year and as a result I have tough but manageable goals for this year. The other members are super supportive. It's a great community to be part of. You'll feel welcomed when you give it a try.

With clanking weights and bumper plates in kilogram, The Heavy Metal Barbell Club doth thrive, Coaches bring us PRs to slam, Guiding members to achieve and strive. The camaraderie is strong and true, As members lift and push to be their best, With every set, a bond doth ensue, That separates this gym from the rest. The coaches' wisdom doth not go amiss, As they teach proper form and technique, Their passion for the sport is truly bliss, Their guidance is what makes the club unique. With weights that clang and music loud, NoDa’s Heavy Metal Barbell stands proud.

  • Aaron Schlosser

Started personal strength training with Chris at Charlotte Strength a year ago, and couldn't be happier with my progress. Went from barely doing 10 push ups to 40. 0 pull ups to 3, and helping me meet my conditioning & strength goals in every muscle group. Great instruction on how to properly lift, while also pushing me to my full potential. Chris & the CLT strength team have pushed & educated me every step along the way. If you're ready to take the first step, and put the work in, I couldn't recommend a better gym/team to start that journey.

  • Kelly Barbeau

Joining Charlotte Strength is the best decision I made in 2022! I've been a member for 8 months, and have been going to the gym consistently 4-5 days/week since I joined. I started doing Noda fit (functional/Crossfit-style workouts) and moved over to the Olympic Weightlifting side of the gym 4 months ago. I've already competed in 2 weightlifting competitions, and have 2 more scheduled for 2023. The coaches are the best and I've met some great friends through the gym as well. They also have a barrel sauna and amazing recovery services.

  • Alexander Aceituno

Heavy Metal Barbell is the best place in Charlotte to progress towards your strength and fitness goals. The gym is a training place for clients with wide ranges of goals, from competing in Olympic-style weightlifting to improving general fitness and completing physical therapy. Sean Rigsby has the experience and proven record to help clients set goals and coach them as they develop towards those goals. Heavy Metal is home to top notch people in a supportive, team environment with top equipment and resources.

  • Karen Frye

Charlotte Strength is the gym to go to if you are interested in Olympic lifting. The coaches are very knowledgeable and great at explaining the movements needed to improve your technique. Even with 10+ lifters on the floor, the coach takes the time to give each person feedback. I really appreciate that as a new lifter. I also follow the Oly programming through the gym. The structure has a good flow and I can feel myself getting stronger and more confident in my lifts. I highly recommend checking them out!’

  • Keith M

I joined Charlotte Strength a few months back. The facilities, coaching, programming, and other friendliness of other members of the gym have fully exceeded my expectations. The team of coaches at CSC are extremely knowledgeable and great motivators to help members achieve their training goals. If you’re interested in improving your strength, conditioning, and technique under the guidance of knowledgeable and caring coaches, CSC is the best gym I’ve come across to achieve these goals!

  • Hughston Armstrong

As a coach, I appreciate the community that the athletes bring to the gym. A space for people to come together and improve themselves. Sean and Tayler have created more than a gym, but a team that as excited about the process of development as they are for the success of all that walk through the door and are ready to put in the work! From the training program to the community events, you see the commitment to growth of the person, not just in the numbers put on a bar!

  • Alicia White

Very knowledgeable staff able to break down dissect and teach difficult movements. They are 100% experts, so if you want to really learn how to do Oly lifts properly this is the place to go. The women here are especially lifted here and strong which makes me feel safe going there as a woman. Courtney is an incredible coach and Im so honored to have been able to train with her. Thanks everyone at Charlotte Strength for helping me add more tools to my toolbelt.

  • John Blaser

Heavy Metal Barbell is the singular choice for those looking to improve their weightlifting ability. Sean is an incredible coach in both personality and experience, and has built a very welcoming atmosphere for both practiced athletes and those newer to the sport. Finding a gym to train at while in Charlotte for work was a big source of anxiety, but I could not have landed in a better place! Sign up, it's the right decision.

  • Christopher Ingram

Great location and fantastic gym. The space and equipment are top notch (whether you are lifting heavy or getting in a metcon), the coaches are knowledgeable and stoked to help you get better, the programming is solid, and everyone I met here was extremely welcoming. Having 24/7 access to the space is an amazing perk for when your schedule doesn't quite cooperate. Highly recommend Charlotte Strength -- go check it out!

  • Alexander Vidal

I really could not ask for anything more when I work with coach Sean and coach Taylor! Excellent teachers and class dynamic each and every day. Coach Sean and coach Taylor's greatest qualities outside of their experience and knowledge is their willingness to work with everyone as an individual in a class setting. They are both so easily approachable and will work to help each individual improve at their own weaknesses.

  • Joy Munyan

I cannot say enough good thing about Sean and Heavy Metal Barbell. He is both knowledgeable and patient and works with people of all skill levels with no hesitation. His is constantly pushing his athletes to go beyond their comfort zone and be their best day in and day out. Coaching is personalized to the needs of the athlete and he by your side the entire time making sure you are safe and pushing yourself. 10/10

  • Kim Marroquin

Awesome community and coaching-- I saw a tremendous amount of improvement in a 6 week period. Sean really takes his time making sure it "clicks" for you and you leave each session more confident in your lifts. I still have a long way to go, but I always want to come back which makes the world of a difference! Even if you're brand new, don't shy away. Really lucky we have world-class coaches in Charlotte.

  • Dori Turnier

I’ve been a member of charlotte strength for 2.5 years now and have been to gyms all over the country. This one is the best one hands down. The programming and coaches are top notch. The community is elite. Sean and Tayler (owners) and their team put their heart and souls into every aspect of this gym and it shows through not only the PRs but also the supportive community every time you walk in the door

  • Robert Matthews

In Charlotte for the weekend and decided to drop in to Charlotte Strength for a workout. This place was great and if I lived local it would be my home gym. They were maxing our Olympic lifts, but there was plenty of room to still have an open gym as well. Anything and everything needed for a solid strength and conditioning workout is here. Highly recommend and will come back next time I’m in town!

  • Orlan Castillo

Charlotte Strength is the best gym I have ever seen or been a part of. A hidden gem in NoDa. The coaching staff is without a doubt the finest in North Carolina, truly defining mastery of weightlifting. The community they've built is so supportive and coached to excellence, from warm up to cool down the best and most disciplined. I can't say enough about this amazing place, try it and you'll see!

  • Lonnie Smith

I dropped in for open gym a few days while in town. It was straightforward to set everything up online. I had a few questions that were answered by Sean quickly. The gym is exactly what I was looking for, with plenty of room and equipment available. Sean came over and introduced himself, and made sure I had everything I needed. Everyone was friendly, and the place had a good vibe.

  • Matt Henry

Finished up the 6 week Barbell Basic course. Thoroughly impressed with Sean and the culture of his gym. Everyone there greets you with a smile and Sean is very responsive to your needs and goals. The class its self is very organized and each class builds upon the previous class. At the end of 6 weeks you will have a solid foundation on how to do the Olympic Lifts.

  • Noah Zacharko

Heavy Metal Barbell is first class. Sean and Taylor are not only elite level lifters, they are even better people. Their knowledge and level of instruction/coaching is unmatched anywhere around. As a health care professional, I feel comfortable knowing that they have their members best interest at heart and provide the highest level training available.

  • Grant Kinghorn

Easily the best Olympic Weightlifting gym in Charlotte (if not all of North Carolina). The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable and are always available to help. The atmosphere in the gym itself is amazing due mainly to the fact that all the people there are funny, kind, and welcoming. Incredibly beneficial for both new and experienced lifters!

  • Olga Pisarskiy

Charlotte Strength and HMB is the absolute best! The gym is clean, has quality equipment, and the people are even better. I don’t live in Charlotte, but when I visit it’s my top place to get my training in. Sean, Tayler and the entire coaching staff are professional and very welcoming to visitors. Highly recommend.

  • Melissa Lingafeldt

Between the coaching, programming, equipment, and community, this place is awesome. You get the best of both worlds: there's coached hours/scheduled classes with a supportive community, but you also have access to the gym 24/7 so no excuses that you couldn't make a class or didn't have time. Best gym in Charlotte.

  • Melissa Melvin-Rodriguez

Charlotte Strength is a wonderful, welcoming gym. Whether you are looking for functional fitness, building strength or Olympic weightlifting, there is a little bit of everything. The coaches are incredibly knowledgable and helpful. All the members are so supportive. It’s the best fitness community in Charlotte!

  • Ryan Wingenroth

I’ve never been around a more supportive and driven team of couches. I felt I had permanently plateaued with my lifts, but Sean, the head coach, completely reawakened my passion and took my lifts to new levels. If you are serious about lifting and fitness, come here. It is for those who give a Damn!

  • Erica Skinner

Superior coaching! Charlotte Strength is a welcoming, non-intimidating gym where the coaches and members are top notch. It's a really clean facility (which is sometimes hard to come by in the gym world) and the upgrades just keep coming. Whatever your fitness goals, they will be met here.

  • Kara Guerriero

Friendly, helpful staff. Not too bro-ish. A little challenging to figure out how to get in/get started as it’s open all the time but not always staffed; suggest checking it out during the pre-post-work hours or morning-ish Saturdays if you want to talk to someone.

  • Brad H

Just finished the 6 week barbell basics program with Sean. I've done some Olympic lifting in the past but my form was trash. In a very short time I've made drastic improvements. Beginner or advanced, I would highly recommend Heavy Metal Barbell!
