I've been going to Chatters for over 5 years, since living in another province and from 2019 until now in Calgary. I regularly use Chatters hair services in Chinook mall as they are closer for me and I get my bang trim done there every few weeks. Of course, they sometimes are fully booked and I instead use the services in Chatters Southcentre. The service here is alright, but the past couple times I've booked a bang trim they have made me wait over 10 minutes to see my hairstylist. I understand that some appointments can run longer, although I use the online service to pre-book an appointment that only takes 10 mins. Today I showed up a few minutes before my appointment at 15:50 and I sat down in their waiting area, the receptionist told me that the hairstylist with be a few minutes late because she was still finishing up with a customer. 10 mins pass and the receptionist kindly apologized to me and asked if I would like to come back and she would call me, I chose to remain seated as she said it would be another 10 mins. 50 minutes passed and in that time I witnessed the hairstylist get notified that I have been waiting for some time, and another person was told to come back. During this time, she didn't put any effort into speeding up her clients appointment, they chatted, styled her hair, and took photos. Not one time did this stylist apologize for the 50 minute wait, she didn't even acknowledge me. I spoke to the two receptionists to ask if someone else was available to take me instead as I've been waiting so long. Not only was my time being taken away, but also my partner was waiting with me, he even got us a coffee because she was so late because of her previous booking. I was looking to cancel the appointment and book it at Chinook instead at that point, but I had already spent part of my evening waiting. The receptionists apologized again, and said this trim would be complimentary, and gave me a welcome booklet with coupons. Great, some compensation for my time, this was greatly appreciated as it wasn't their fault she was neglectful of her next clients time or first experience with her. Once it came to my trim, she didn't apologize at all, she seemed rushed and just wanted me gone. I arrived at 15:40, in the chair at 16:40, by the time I had left it was 16:50. What an awful and disappointing experience. I would expect for all chatters hair salons to have the same quality customer service throughout. I work in customer service and retail sales, and I understand that some clients take longer, although that's where it's my responsibility to manage my time wiser and keep the clients time and experience in mind. And as an immunocompromised person, I don't feel comfortable staying in a public place for longer than need be, especially in a pandemic. I feel like I had no value to this stylist as my $10 bang trim held no $$$ value to her client that was getting a colour and style service. I now feel that you change value/have a biased preference towards your customers. 5 stars to the 3 kind young ladies at receptin, and 1 star to the stylist.
When I first started going here I thought it was a wonderful place. The people were much more courteous, and friendly compared to places like Tommy Guns. I had great experiences with the manager (at least I think she was. She could have just been a higher up supervisor). The rest of the girls there were great to deal with as well. I was developing a professional relationship with a stylist named Maria. She was the only person I could really trust with my hair. I have had a lot of bad experiences, and I don't understand how asking for a mohawk got so difficult. She gave me what I wanted, was a pleasure to talk to, and had to be the fastest stylist I had ever met. Not haphazard either. She was professional. Sadly she left the salon along with virtually everyone else I knew. When I asked about Maria they just said they never heard of her. Guessing she had a problem with the staff as she was headstrong, and worked very hard. So they gave me a male stylist. I think his name was Steven, but I am not sure. He was TERRIBLE. He was 5'5" maybe, glasses, short spikey hair, and had clippers he called "Screamers". Most likely because they were old, second hand tools. I hate complaining, but this person ruined 4 years of work with my hair. I told him I wanted a mohawk. Just trim the top, feather-in/blend/taper whatever the sides into it. He used shears n the side of my head instead of a razor. He thinned my hair even tho I said i liked to keep it thick. The edges where it should be faded together has hairs sticking out. The hair was so badly thinned it couldn't stand on it's own anymore. No matter how much beeswax or other products I put in. It was 4-5 inches wide, and now the best I can manage is maybe a half inch strip in the middle that curls at the top like something out of Whoville. The rest of the hair just falls to the sides. It used to be thick enough to to stand so I had a thick spikey mohawk. Looked a little savage which is what I like. Now it's garbage. 3 weeks later it never grew back right. I spent 4 years fixing my hair after working in concrete for a decade. It finally wasn't thin, scraggly, and dead. In 15 minutes this failure of a stylist ruined it. I hope he is fired. No wonder he told me he wasn't going to put any product in my hair when he was done. He thinned everything. Angle cut the top, and spent 6 minutes trying to get the hair by my ears even. Truly a terrible stylist, and I wouldn't trust him to cut a dog's hair.
I had tried to book an appointment at the shawnessey location show up and my stylist had a sick kid so she didn't come in so I ask if someone else could cut my hair as there was 4 girls standing at the counter looking bored and 3 girls in the salon cleaning that I could see and I was told "sorry but we're booked solid today" I did not obviously rebook and the next day I call the South Centre location the girl on the phone was super nice gets me an appointment with Isabella the same day. I get there the store is a bit busy but as soon as I get to the front of the line she brings me to the waiting area (I was 15 minutes early) and within 2 minutes Isabella comes for me. She asked me what I want (this always makes me nervous because more often then not I don't get what I ask for) and she agreed showed me what she would do in the mirror then we get started. The head message was amazing, I could have fallen asleep right there, then she cut part of my hair explaining that she wanted to do the rest after she dried it as my ends are very dry and I wanted as little cut off as possible as I'm growing it out. She didn't make a bunch of snap talk which was super nice because trying to have a conversation with someone you don't know about your life is tough but I still felt very comfortable. She did a great job on the cut, showed me how to style while she was styling it but in a way that I could do it at home and helped me with purchasing a new flat iron. The girl at the counter was very efficient and polite. Overall amazing experience will definitely be back and will be getting color next time as I trust the stylist to do what I want! Thank you Chatters South Center!
I asked for blonde highlights and to get rid of my roots she gave me blonde streaks didn't get rid of my roots it's still Brown.. I asked for a haircut and for it to be layered she cut my hair right to my shoulders..when my hair was down to almost my butt and no layers.. so basically I was charged $250 the most expensive I have ever paid at chatters for my hair to look exactly the same as it did when I walked into the hair salon I was so displeased with my haircut and hair dying I guess I will never go back again to that place I wanted to get it fixed but because she put bleach in my hair a little bit of bleach my hair I have to wait at least another six months and wait for my hair to grow back a bit to actually get it layered properly and they are the way I wanted.. oh and to top it all off she found out where I worked and ask for my phone number and told me that she was going to show up at my work and she was asking for discounts at my job for her and her husband yet I still had to pay $250... I recommend not going to this place I usually go to the one in Marlborough Mall that one is like a five-star Place rather than this never again.... very very disappointed:/
*Edit*-Santina the district manager reached out to me. and I am Sooo happy. I went to Chinook chatters. I now have the EXACT red hair I wanted! No bleaching etc... thank you!. Just before they closed for covid in May. I told the lady I wanted RED hair. Well, 3hrs and $200 later I left looking EXACTLY the same as I did walking in. The stylist told me because my roots were brown and my hair blonde I couldn't get my red. I "should have done highlites ".. or, "we would have had to bleach your roots".. ok.. I'm not a stylist.. I don't know what it takes, I told her I wanted all over red and wanted a nice fresh change. It was a mother's day gift from my 2yr old.. and I ended up crying thru the mall back to my car *embarrassing*. I called them that day and they said "we will put a note in file that you were unhappy about your hair" I was hoping for a discount, money back or even another appt. I've never cared about hair, it grows back.. but not working and spending that much money to feel like nothing was done... not happy .
So I’ve gone to this place a couple times, and as a woman with short hair it’s difficult to find someone competent in cutting/styling short hair. Every time I’ve been there asking for a Mohawk (which I usually have), the stylists have refused to listen to my requests for the sides to be completely bald and have disregarded my requests saying “it would be more feminine” if I had a fade, proceeding to ruin what would usually be an easy haircut. But the most recent encounter I’ve had left me in tears once I left, after going consistently to a barber shop for my hair I thought I’d give a salon a chance since I now have a pixie, but the stylist once again as with many others there refused to acknowledge my request for very VERY short hair saying “that would look like a men’s haircut” and not understanding the texture of Asian hair she thinned my hair so now it won’t even lie flat, I have to go to a barber shop to fix this mess and I spent two times as much as I have anywhere else. Suffice to say I am very displeased.
Got my hair done a few weeks ago and honestly will never go back. I was offered a redo free of charge but trust is broken after 2 attempts. When I was last there I wanted a lot of blonde high lights with some low lights, bangs and layers. Not to much taken off on the ends. My hair at the end didn't look at all like it changed much, and I had to remind the hair dresser to cut bangs ( she didn't even do the cut for the rest of my hair ). At that point I said I thought it looked okay so I could just leave and she was rushing to finish me and help someone else. I'm so disappointed. No one even noticed my hair was done other then some bangs. The person who cut my hair was super nice. I should mention the one tall receptionist seemed like every time I came in for anything always seemed so angry. When ever I came in I'd hope I didn't have to talk to her cause her cause her energy seemed very negative and it made me uncomfortable. I'm disappointed and for the amount I paid I'm super put off.
I cannot speak highly enough of my experience with stylist Ashlee C at this location today: Getting curly hair cut is a game you seldom win; you know it, I know it. I try to keep my expectations low and hope for the best. Imagine my surprise when I showed up to my appointment and was informed that I was in luck - the stylist they'd arranged for me, Ashlee, was in addition to being a regular stylist, a particular specialist in curls. I found Ashlee to be pleasant, professional, and very knowledgeable; throughout the visit she shared meaningful tips for how to keep my curls healthy and beautiful, and I left not only absolutely thrilled with how I looked, but also armed with a litany of new tricks for hair care. This was my best salon experience by a SIGNIFICANT margin. Stunning, 10/10, no notes, would recommend again.
I booked an appointment with Lindsay from Chatters in Southcentre Mall and received a confirmation email. When I arrived at Chatters a few minutes earlier, Lindsay was standing in the cashier. When I told her that I'm here for my appointment with her, Lindsay told me that she will not serve me as I should be served by an Asian hairdresser (I'm an Asian girl). She was very rude. She told me that the appointments do not matter to her. She would treat me as a walk-in and would not serve me. The Asian hairdresser Yuna later told me that she (Yuna) will leave Chatter soon because they do not treat her well. I'm very angry about Chatters because the staff there have strong racial discrimination. It's hard to believe these kind of behavior of choosing customers based on the race can still exist in modern Canada.
Chatters in southcenter mall provided me with wonderful service this week. I was happily greeted on the phone when calling to try to get squeezed in after deciding on some last minute self care before my baby comes next week. I was again happily greeted when I Showed up late after running into road construction. The ladies were kind, understanding and quickly got me organized. Larissa was an absolute doll. I had little idea what I was looking for and she took my thoughts and ran with it, giving me exactly what I was thinking in my head. Ok, maybe a bit better than what I was thinking. This girl is pure talent. I highly recommend chatters in southcenter! I feel so refreshed and completely satisfied. I’ll certainly be going back!
When in for full highlights and a cut. I was booked with one stylist and then when I came they said it was switched. That didn't bother me at all, because I didn't request the first stylist. I quickly realized that the person who would be doing my hair was very new. A senior stylist was helping her throughout. However I still felt very nervous, and a little annoyed I wasn't told beforehand that a ( student? Trainee?) was doing my hair. I had no reason to worry, the highlights were awesome. She blended them so nicely into my existing highlights. It doesn't even look a little blocky, like some highlights do. I will probably request her if I can next time I go.
I really wanted to give this place a try despite the reviews, it was close and convenient. I figured it was a simple enough haircut. I would not recommend this place to anyone, anytime, unless changes are made. I went in for a haircut, and when I left I thought it looked amazing and I was so happy. The morning after I decided to straighten my hair, and that's where I noticed everything. The uneven lines, the chunk of hair that clearly doesn't blend in. The hairdresser totally butchered my hair. I can't even begin to describe the level of disappointment. I really hope everyone reads these reviews and decides to book an appointment elsewhere.
Booked an appointment with southcentre a week in advance thinking I’d have my hair done in time for Christmas. The stylist calls me a half hour before the appointment (I already drove halfway there) to call and cancel because she’s sick. Okay fine, I rebook for the next day she said absolutely no problem I would have it done the next day. I rebooked with a different stylist and today I get a call from the reception that she’s sick. I think this location has very poor service and the fact that the manager could not reach out themselves to apologize and left it to the receptionist shows that. Thanks for there run around and frustration
I’ve had good expirences here before but today really let me down. I came in twice trying to look for shampoo and conditioner but no one ever said hello or asked if I needed help. The employees at the front were talking about some work stuff and I didn’t want to interrupt. I just wanted some help, their are hundreds of products in that store and it was a little overwhelming. I called the store to try to explain what happened and the gal on the phone was understanding even though I was being “one of those” customers. It just sucks because I wanted to buy some boujee stuff, but now I’m at home, stuck with some head and shoulders.
I had an appointment at this salon and was running behind. When I called to tell them I was put on hold. I continued to sit in hold until I got there. Told the person I was late and tried to call them but was STILL on hold (approx. 15 minutes). Was then informed that they didn't have time to do my colour now. I completely understand that me being late was not their fault but I tried to communicate my lateness and sat on hold. As I walked in the salon there were 2 people standing at the desk chatting as I sat on hold. Wasted my time and the time of the person who was watching my kids so I could go to this appointment.
Me and my friend were supposed to be getting our hair cut at the same time, we booked our appt 2 weeks ago - the lady asked if we wanted them at same time and both just under the same name, we got a confirmation message about the 2 appts. Then today we show up for our appts only to find out only 1 of us was booked in? They were able to squeeze the second cut after the first but why should I waste my time because your salon can't seem to get 2 appts right. I won't be going back to this location because of this super simple mistake.
Bad experience from the minute I walked in. Hairdresser just walked to the back and didn't greet me. Proceeded to tell me I looked stressed and tired. Said hair was what made women beautiful, not makeup. Literally cut a few inches off the back, didn't touch anywhere else. Dried and straightened it. Didn't show me the back. 20 minutes and $50 later. I will never go there again. I should have trusted my gut after reading the reviews. It was dead in there too, on a Sunday. That's another tell-tale.
The ladies here are super sweet and kind! I got my hair done by Ashley, who has to be the nicest and most welcoming person I've met. She really took her time and explained the process to me. I really appreciated her honesty and ability to engage with me while being there for a little more than 7 hours. She's the sweetest woman ever and she did an absolutely outstanding job. I love my hair and I honestly cannot appreciate her and the team enough! I highly recommend them!! ♥️
I was told by Chatters that they matched other salons prices for products but to day when I called them on it, the Shawnessey branch said they didn’t know and the South Centre branch at first said they would but when I told them I could purchase a hair product for 18.99 as opposed to the Chatters price of 22.99 the lady said they would only price match with other Chatter stores. Makes no sense to me so I will purchase my products from Ao-ta Beauty Salon I need Southcentre.
Went in because i saw online they had many openings. All i wanted was a simple wash and trim. But the reason was we are closing soon. They don’t close until 8 like the rest of the mall. I showed my phone showing all the openings until 7pm but still wouldn’t take me in. At least be nice when turning people away instead of sounding like you do not wanting to do your job. Makes you look horrible. Will not be going back because of how rude they all were.
Larissa always does an amazing job on my hair! We have been trying different tones and experimenting with my red hair over the last year and I have never loved my hair more! She is always willing to listen and take feedback while still providing her professional expertise. Larissa is my forever stylist! The rest of the Chatters Southcentre team always contributes to my 5 star experiences by providing great customer service and a welcoming atmosphere.
Never get your hair done from Amina, it was the worst experience ever. My hair was so long she damaged it so bad that I had to cut it short all the way and it’s still damaged on the one side. She didn even offer to fix it and charged me an arm and a leg. I used to love chatters and trust them now I just hate the salon because of one horrible experience. I hate myself because of how my hair looks so horrible and I have a wedding in 6 weeks !
I came in looking to purchase some new shampoo and conditioner today and the lady was super helpful with helping me pick them out. She asked all the right questions and made sure I was picking a product that was suitable for my hair. I didn't get her name but she had dark brown hair with some caramel highlights. I tried my new products the same day and I can already see a difference with my hair :)
I tried to lighten bleach my own hair , I basically damaged it badly, I called chatters told my situation , they took me that day , Larrisa awesome hairdresser fixed my hair, she knows hair and her products very well, I will never do my own hair ever. I always get asked 'who does you hair? ' I recommend Larrisa and Chatters south. My hair has life & shine back thanks
Awful experience at this salon. my hair was nearly down to my butt and i asked for an INCH off, also informed her that I get anxiety when it comes to hair cuts for this exact reason. my hair is now just below my chest and it is extremely choppy and the worst haircut i’ve ever seen, she took way more than an inch off not to mention its uneven
Booked an appointment online fairly last minute. They took me back straight away, I forget the name of the stylist but she was amazing. I didn’t have a real clear idea of what I wanted to do and she made some wonderful suggestions. It was nice to see that staff happy and having fun it was a great environment.
Came in for my haircut and CRISTINA was my stylist. She was a sweetheart and did my haircut so well with so much detail and care and no hint of rushing. I can't thank her enough for the result, it was exactly how i wanted to achieved and I'm coming back for my highlights. Highly recommended!!!!
This review specifically for Brenda - Chatters - Southcentre Mall Location, Calgary, Ab. So far, One of the Best Hair Dressers I have ever come across, in years and years of getting my mane done. Personally stopped looking any further... hope she will stick around location forever... ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Amateur hairstylist. Could not follow directions. Gave specific directions not to give my daughter a pixie cut and that is what stylist did. My daughter was in tears. Wasted 40 minute drive to come here. When asked the other staff, what style of cut she got they both answered pixie cut.
Got my hair cut with Yuna ( I believe that's how it's spelled ? ) She was very professional and took her time to understand what I wanted. She made sure every step of the way was correct by asking me if I liked it. I went from long hair to above shoulder length. Will go there again!
Larissa gave me the exact haircut/style to the picture I showed her. She was professional and very pleasant and friendly. She seemed very knowledgeable about the techniques needed for the hairstyle I wanted, and made it happen! Thank you, Larissa. I will for sure be back!
Such a great experience! Christina took amazing care of me, and my hair! The reception staff were very courteous, easy to call in and book, was able to get in at the exact time I needed! Talk about awesome! Would totally recommend southcenter Chatters to anyone!
They now charge $100 for root touch up and toner, same as top salons. I gave it a few shots but each time they left my under side un toned and brassy and would leave it patchy in general. ..go to a better salon, diva is a great one it's worth it!
Watched my girlfriend get the worst haircut of her life she wanted blonde and ended up looking like a pumpkin for the low cost of $375 needless to say go somewhere else to get your hair done don’t go here and definetly dont use Larissa!
Fantastic stylist and service! I went in for a cut and color. I am really picky when it comes to my hair. I saw Larissa and she was amazing! She listened to what I wanted and offered helpful suggestions. I will definitely return!
Just want to give a shout out to my Stylist, Larissa. She is amazing and detail oriented. So friendly and personable. If you want beautiful hair, and a stylist who listens, I would highly recommend going to her!!
I've been seeing Liberty for haircuts since August 2022, and she's great. I try to keep my hair short and neat and she's always able to follow whatever new requests I have each time I come in. Thank you Liberty!
I like Chatters because they keep prices on the lower end, and it's still a good quality salon. Amina did a really great job with my hair. I added a couple pictures of the colour job she did a few months ago.
I am very disappointed with the lack of professionalism. I booked my appointment with them online three times and all three times, it was cancelled by them without even letting me know! Very poor service.
Larisa did my hair back in December. She did a fantastic job with color highlights and cut. I live in Florida and traveled back to make sure I could have Larisa do my hair again.
Hit or miss, I've been really impressed and really disappointed from the same hair cutter while getting basically the same cut. Tommy guns in Sunridge is worth the drive.
This girl was horrible. Rushed through the cut and I specifically told her I did not want my hair cut above my ears and she totally shaved around my whole ear. Seriously?
Laura did an amazing job! This was the first time in a long time that I have left a hair cut super happy! Laura was easy to talk to and took great care of my hair.
Markus is AWESOME!! He always makes me feel like a million bucks. I would highly recommend him! He is professional yet personable & very knowledgeable.
It's pretty nice, the salon is seperate from the mall, so you get to relax. My hairstylist is really nice, and does a fine job on my hair.
Several great stylists, amazing selection of products, great staff. High end experience without over the top prices.
Larissa is absolutely amazing when it came to colouring my hair. Got what I asked for and loved the results.
The price was much cheaper than the other salon, plus they cut my hair nicely. All staff was friendly too
Fiona is amazing! Great conversation and a great haircut! Store was clean, everyone was wearing a mask!
Like my girl amazing, but very expensive they raised there prices to 63.00 basic cut WOW
I had a great experience, chatters is the only salon I trust with my hair.
