I've never seen so much resentment right off the bat. I hadn't even said anything to anyone, but everyone gave me the most baleful looks. The guy at the front of the license office spoke in half sentences. "Out of state license" stated flatly meant he wanted mine. His attitude suggested I was there to commit fraud or was an idiot without the proper documents, but ibjad documents up the wazoo. Then he took my nice binder clip and put my documents in a lousy paperclip. He put documents with very sensitive information facing out right on top--if I wanted to steal some identities of come here, the staff basically facilitates that. Other staff along the process were much less surly, hence the 3 stars. The wait wasn't too bad, and they moved along at a decent clip, and I got what I wanted, so it was adequate and they get three stars. In and out with a license in hand in under an hour. And the physical license while you wait is nice, I've had to get it in the mail from other states. So it wasn't awesome, but it could have been worse, and I got what I wanted in a reasonable period of time.
Terrible service! Came in for a copy of my MVR and an abstract inquiry and got nothing but attitude from the customer service rep. She never said her name but she's in Station 8. She asked had I ever went without a license and I said absolutely not, she looked me up and down and then asked the CSR in the next cubicle something inaudible and handed him my empty driving MVR and she smirked and wrote up an invalid abstract inquiry stating that I had a gap in holding a valid license for an entire year which was a lie and refused to let me see where my paperwork said that. I asked 3 different times if I could see it and she refused to show me. I spoke with the supervisor and he looked into the issue and agreed that she was wrong. He threw the invalid inquiry away, and told me that I absolutely didn't need it. no one should be able to get away with that, she's disgusting, and it's inexcusable.
A few tips: 1) Most importantly: carefully check the apostille document they give to you. Mine contained a typo and I had to notice this by doing my own review of the document and bringing it to the staff's attention to correct. 2) Complete your apostille application prior to your visit. If you don't have it completed when you get to the window, they will send you to the back wall to fill it out and you'll lose your place in line. 3) There's a chance they won't accept your public notary stamp (reason I was given: date on the public notary's stamp didn't match the date in the staff's system...?) and send you to a place the Thompson Center to get another notarization.
Fast, efficient and helpful - that's what I have to say about my experience here. I was in and out in an hour with new registration, plates, and a new license - it took no time at all. Clerks were friendly and helpful. Usually you loathe going to do these chores - but I can't imagine a better experience. If you are getting off of the train, take the escalators all the way down to the lowest level before exiting the turnstiles. Take a left and follow it all the way around the food court, and then follow signs. Pretty easy to find using these directions, which I found on yelp before I went to the office, so I wanted to share them here on G+ too.
Not all, but some of the employees do not clearly specify how to revise documents to make them valid for apostille stamp (because unfortunately also many notary publics don't know how to notarize documents). Instead, they will sugest you to fix one thing at a time and not give a list of things so you can correct all at once and get it over with. You will need to go multiple times before you get things done for good. Who cares that you have to drive back and forth or take time off from work and try to figure out where the heck to park your car when you get there. They could not care less. Irresponsible and rude staff.
I had recently moved to Chicago from Madison (WI) and needed to get an IL drivers license and new license plates. Googling "DMV Chicago" gives you the secretary of state links (which is a little puzzling at first). Two offices popped up in downtown Chicago so naturally I picked the closer one (at this office at 17 N State Street). It turns out that they are not a full spectrum office so after I got there, they (very nicely) told us to go to the Randolph Street office. This probably could have been spelled out on the website, but oh well. Hope someone else can save a trip from this review!
Went in to get my Birth certificate apostille. I printed out the Apostille form from the website but I believe they have some spare copies in the room, they have pens to fill out the forms. It cost $2 per apostille. You can pay cash or card, they don’t take coins. If you need the proof of graduation apostilled check the website for what’s needed but it will need to be notarized (notary is not available in building). The people at the windows here are helpful. The wait was maybe 15-10 minutes. Tenth floor. The security downstairs is very nice and will direct you. Bathrooms have a code.
I went to get my hearing at this location on state. I Had a black African-American kinda tall anyway as my Hearing Officer. I can't make this up. Well in my hearing he kept letting this women/lady officer/ security in and out about 7times in my hearing to get back my driver's license.Long story short I failed and my lawyer ran off with my money. Thank you for this memeroy I can't never forget it . Thank you Sincerely Juquan J Hall ll P.s if you need proof just ask me or we can email I have nothing hide. N I still don't have my License. God Bless.
Customer service is not very nice. Staff member advised the department policy is only one person at a time. The other person is not able to listen or even assist. But they allowed me to pay the associated fees. Signs posted states station #'s... automated systems says "counter #'s.... even there are no counters and several rooms. But not a very long wait at all. Prior to leaving the manager assisted us and was very helpful. Gave us the answers we needed and rating changed from 1 to 4 because of him and the awesome security officer. Thanks guys!
I had a confusing situation where my son’s license was unknowingly suspended and getting answers was proving very difficult. I took a chance that this office could help me. Susan and Bill (the manager) were so helpful, so understanding, and went far beyond what they needed to do to help me resolve the matter, including a personal phone call afterwards to let me know the license had been reinstated. Thank you so much for helping me when I was losing my mind!
I was waiting for what seemed lke forever when a homeless man got right up and defecated right in his pants. Some of it came out of his pants leg. I had to run to the bathroom to throw up. No one who worked there seemed to notice. The guy then begins singing. I was waiting long enough to hear a full impromptu acoppella concert that I would have paid not to hear. Then he starts asking people for change. He should have asked for wet wipes, to wipe his butt.
I went here today to pay my suspension fees. I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the improvement of customer service. Everyone working was very helpful and friendly. The best part was they had an employee stationed in the hallway directing people to where they needed to go (which is always confusing with multiple offices) and answering questions. Hopefully I won’t be back lol but if so I’ll come to this location!
Every employee I encountered here today was pleasant, friendly, and helpful beyond expectations. I came to update my registration, and they noticed my car would be due for emissions testing soon. Knowing many locations in the city are temporarily closed due to COVID, the woman helping me hand wrote a list of open locations close by and a number I could call if I had questions. I was in and out in 20 minutes!
Went there Tuesday and there was a very rude lady at the counter who told me I had something incorrect on my documents and told me to go fix it and when I did she still did not accept it. So I came back on Thursday there was a different lady working and she immediately took my documents that the other lady rejected and approved them with out a problem. It really depends on who you land on.
This place should be privatized. Mrs Franklin who sent me out twice was rude and does not any skills needed to deal with the public. Second time she refused to sign apostile because the notary wrote his name in addition to signing it. This place is horrible and be prepared for anything and allow hours to go back and forth meeting their requests. Privatize it!
I'm visually impaired, so I need more concise instructions as to how to correct documents. Instead, they were seemed to deliberately send me in circles and kept rejecting corrections that they themselves requested. Large woman with dyed brown curly hair and the old, balding man whose fashion choices include a bolo tie seem to have an attitude with everyone
Service was fast and good so i cant conplain. I wish I did city hall! Lol! I could complain about them a whole lot. But this place was ok only problem was the doorlady was having a conversation with someone and she made me wait, they wernt even talking about anything important. My guess is she did that because i was black.
For a government service - pretty quick and painless. I took me 20 minutes to get in and out. I felt like they were helping people on a first come first serve basis. There were enough chairs for everyone to sit while we waited. They had enough pens to fill out forms. Exceeded expectations.
This DMV is the worst-I waited for an hour in freezing cold outside, got inside, got my picture taken, waited in another line only for them to tell me at the window i need my green card. They refused other documentation such as SSN. Complete disregard towards people’s time.
Everyone it’s so helpful and friendly. ! The first time I came in to get an Apostille done I did not have the correct paperwork and they took the time to explain in detail what I needed , in order to get it done . Now every time I come I get my paperwork done right away .!
I don’t understand the bad reviews...The staff working here is superb helpful. My documents for Apostille were notarized incorrectly and they guided me how to fix it. Make sure to get correct notarization before coming here, follow the guide in the photo.
Very quick service for what I needed. Renewing my license plates took approximately 5 minutes. Not sure what services they have though. No drivers license services (renewals) I think, but SOS service is here along with suspension hearings, I believe.
Entrance... Where is it... Kind a hard time to find it? Look at store with name One North State on the name, next to the left is a TJ Max and next to the left are a dark door with also dark address 17 N State Street, go in.. And you are happy now:)
My experience was wonder. The lady that helped me was so nice and helped me out a lot! Even called me the next day for a courtesy call to let me know if everything processed through fine. Best experience at a secretary of state facility!
I like the location, but not the hours. It doesn't help people who work because the lines are so long, one can not get anything done during their lunch hour. They close at 5:00 p.m. so a person can not do anything after work.
Stupid employees they don’t explain clearly what you should do to complete your document they made me go back and forth four times from West subrurbs to down town a one hour driving each time to apostille my papers
Clean and efficient. Most of the staff also spoke fluent spanish and were very helpful. There were not many signs or directions as to which door to enter. Across the elevators or to the left on the 10th floor.
The best DMV/SOS facility I've ever been to. Not crowded at all, clean, easy to find, everyone is helpful especially Martha at booth 6. Very quick and helpful trip, will come back again if need to.
I called to find if I can get real ID or DL; No one answered. I found those information here on reviews that the office do not answer phone calls and do not issue ID or DL So I hung up the phone.
They should update their working hours fr. I drove 40 minutes just to find out it was closed for the whole day when it clearly shows on Google they’re open for business from 8-5pm.
Fast and quick service They close at 4:00pm and I arrived 5 minutes before closing and they helped me get my documents sealed. Best service I've encountered. friendly staff!!!
Friendly and fast service. The entrance to the building is between the Express store and One North State ( 3 light brown doors), then take the elevator up to the 10th floor.
Never answer the phone, Don't know why the state pays them to never answer the phone, with no customer service. I wonder why they even have a phone number on the website.
Very very helpful and nit long lines, friendly also. Know what department you want and room number helps, everything is Secretary of State up in that building
Very well organized, lots of security, you must follow Covid- 19 CDC guidelines. It was actually quite a pleasure to go there to take care of my business
I got there (10th floor) around 8:45 am on a Thursday morning. Not many people, the service was fast - I was in and out within 5 mins. Good experience.
I have no physical complaints...just about this site...it says open but when you call... No answer... Been calling them for a few days
Always check what they require first prior to visiting. Make sure your notorized paperworks are in order and the right statement.
Excellent service, credit were credit is due. Even the guard was doing an excellent job keeping things in order and flowing.
Never ever answer the phone calls . So bad customer service why they have phone number on website i don’t understand
Horrible! No Drivers License Service here! Complete waste of time and I had to wait 90 minutes at 160 N LaSalle.
Went for an apostate on one Friday, was out In I think less than 3 min, very quick and nice customer service
This site does not handle drivers licenses or IDs. Was told to go to the north or south locations. Be aware
The lady waited on me was really really nice and professional plus she solved my problem. …
Fast, quick and efficient. Staff is helpful. Facilities Manager Bill O. is very helpful and treats you
Very clean not crowded at all. Seats were space out for safety and proceeded in and out. No wait
Never answered the phone. What's th e point of even offering the service. Tax dollars at work.
All 3 ladies at the windows today April 11, we're friendly. In all the waiting was an hour.
Wonderful especially if they reinstatement me full driving privileges instead of a permit.
Friendly, informative for someone like me who is trying to get their life back on track.
No one loves this place due to paying tickets lolol. But nice customer service though.
Easy to find, people there were very help getting my personal information up to date.
Went for State ID but they deal only with expired DL. Friendly staff. It's on 10Floor
Mostly easy. Simple. Some grumpy “stereotypical “city employees, usually very fast.
There was a rude lady with glasses. I honestly didn't like the way she treated me.
...excelente atención por parte de todo el personal, muy agradecido por todo,
Great place, they actually give you what you need and they make it easier.
Testing started promptly greeting staff and test facilitator was nice.
Great example of a perfect DMV office!!! Friendly staff, fast service.
