We've been going to CUTS for several years now and have probably seen 10-15 movies there. The experience is generally good; however, it can be hit or miss depending on the crowd. The price of the tickets tends to keep out most of the riff-raff; however, we have had some noisy individuals next to us at a few of the shows. For the price of the tickets, it can be frustrating when your neighbors talk through the entire movie, or come in drunk from the restaurant next door. Personally, I prefer the cafe loveseats in the back, as the zero gravity chairs give me a headache. Tickets used to be $15, but are now $18 online, which is pretty steep considering the age of most of the movies. Add in a hot chocolate and some popcorn, and you're at about $50 for two people. Despite the price, the theater still appears to sell out most nights. We've become more inclined though to go to the drive-in, or catch the same old movies on Netflix or Amazon Prime.

Perfect date spot. Movie dates normally aren't the best dates because you want to talk to one another but this venue screams romance. They have snacks and beverages for you to buy and your movie tickets gives you discounts to stores and select bars in the area for before the move or after. You need to reserve online but pay in CASH when you get there. They do a cute preview of something before the feature film. It's certainly outdoors but they provide a blanket. The only negative is the chairs weren't too comfy even with the chairs they provide and they made a lot of noise. Also, if you mean back and find the right spot, you'll slowly keep reclining back. I had to adjust a lot during the movie and the chair noise was a bit of a nuisance.

Such a great place for a date or even just to watch an old classic. I'd like to see a bit more diversity in movies - cult classics like Rocky Horror Picture Show, Withnail and I, the old Sherlock Holmes movies, etc but they pick awesome movies. It's not an imposing theater and people are typically well behaved (the seats are expensive as they go and the movies are old and niche). The seating is great, movies are quality - the sound level is great - not blaring. Just a great place to visit - but you shouldn't - cos I like it just the way it is and don't want this little secret becoming a big one. Joking - go there for a date night - i promise you you'll love it :)

Book tickets to see the new Topgun here with my husband on our anniversary, and we loved the experience! We booked one of the cabanas and it was really cozy and private. We couldn't see anyone beside us in the cabana and just the people in the front. And there was a warm blanket and a footrest and no separation between us on the seat either. We loved it. We got really cold though. So we took a blanket and extra footrest from the nearby cabana. The theater was cozy, screening quality and sound were all good, and vibe was lovely too. A real good and unique movie experience!

My wife and I were visiting San Diego from Seattle, and Cinema Under the Stars was one of our highlights of the trip. Such a fun and unique experience that you don’t see very often. The staff were friendly and we love Casablanca! We did have some suggestions/ feedback: - the chairs were a little finicky. Ours did not want to “lock” in place so we kept having to readjust. - the sound was a little soft / not clear. Part of that is because Casablanca is a 70 year old movie and part of that is because it’s open air. But maybe subtitles would’ve helped.

Gotta say, I love the place. Movies from the past worthy of the big screen, movies from the present, such a quaint venue. I really like that the theater is outdoors and has limited capacity. With all the respiratory issues floating around these days, it's wise to at least have fresh air. I look forward to enjoying my next film there. One of these days, maybe they'll have The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly on the big screen! Hint hint!

The staffing was great. The chairs were comfortable and they gave you a pillow and blanket to use. Not sure how i felt about that since we did that in high shcool and lice got spread around. The whole point of going here was to watch a movie under the stars but they kept us covered the whole time and really took away from the experience. I could understand if it was raining but it was a clear night.

If only I could see all movies here. Nice and cozy during the cooler months, nice and breezy during the warmer months. They have anti gravity chairs and serve snacks at a decent price (not outrageous prices like big movie theaters). Check their listings and make sure to get your tickets the day they go on sale. Your ticket will get you 10% off next door at Lefty's pizza, which is awesome.

During our visit to San Diego, this was one of our favorite things to do. An extremely friendly staff, with comfy seating. It was a chilly night and blankets were provided. It was really fun to cuddle under the stars and watch a good old movie. We watched Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark. It was a really fun experience with really fun stuff and a great atmosphere!

This should be a local gem. It has all the hallmarks of something that could be great, but it falls short enough to be a simply average experience and one I would not recommend during the pandemic due to employees alternating between wearing masks ineffectively around their chin and not wearing them at all.

  • Sarah Buchler

A local gem. Totally unique experience and always a respectful audience. Come for a few opening jokes, looney tunes instead of previews, super comfy seats, blankets, and some great movie selections from Hitchcock to Batman to…you name it. Popcorn is cheap and good. This place could only exist in San Diego.

Date night with my boyfriend! The seats, blankets and decor ate just awesome. My boyfriend and I got red vines, peanut M&Ms and watched Roman Holiday. It was such a fun experience. I am such a huge Audrey fan, & this was such a great place to watch an Audrey movie …

  • Derek Wilson

Good outdoor cinema. One screen, covered patio, friendly staff, comfy zero gravity chaira and cabanas, cheap concessions, great movie selections of older and new movies, and tickets come with discounts at the patio, leftys, and the TOPS salon. Cash or check only.

  • shawnte Williams

It was truly great experience. I didn't even know that place was there. The only thing my back started hurt after reclinded in the lounge chair so long. The snacks were reasonsble, they provided blankets, pillows, and heater. O would definitely go again

  • Natori Moore

Unique cozy theatre with great digital projection. You may see things on screen you’ve never seen before, even for favorite films! Multiplies the mise en scene, in other words. Memorable times 100 or however many times I’ve been here. Don’t miss it.

  • Carmen Villegas

Awesome experience! The popcorn was great and candy were great. Very comfortable seating. It was a Halloween date with my boyfriend. We watched psycho and we enjoyed every minute of it. Totally recommend to catch a movie there. Very worth it!

  • pcontiman

Great venue to see older films. The zero gravity recliners are comfy. Back pillows provided along with a blanket which we did not need on an October Eve. Free popcorn and snacks/drinks $3 (10/2023). Great place, cool emcee. Give it a shot.

  • Angie Wilcox

My wife and I really enjoyed ourselves at this tiny neighborhood movie theater. We felt right at home. The staff treated us as if we were old pals from the past. It's a very cozy warm feel theater. Take a date and you'll get to first base.

  • Dave Cox

Kitschy theater outdoors with beach chairs. Completely covered, so no stars. I get the any weather advantage of the roof - but it was a buzz kill. Heated and blankets so cozy, but expensive and again - no stars. Meh. Done it.

  • JJJ

Love this Theatre! Its all about old movies and classics. Very unique and comfortable setting. The staff is great and the owner is very nice too. His knowledge of old movies must be incredible, what an interesting person.

  • Ethan Norstog

Want to a classic film showing and had a great time. Even if you habe seen the film before you can enjoy the environment and experience like new. I had a great time here and definitely will go again.

  • Lauren V

we didn’t love the movie itself but otherwise it was a great experience. cool setup, affordable concessions, and a complimentary blanket. we would definitely be going back if we lived in the area.

  • Scott Taylor

Holy crap what a gem of a find this place is. Not too expensive in a neighborhood full of fun things to do. I'm planning another date night here with a bicycle pub crawl before the show.

  • Gary Reid Backing Tracks

Great pre-movie movie. Zero-gravity reclining chairs, including double-recliners. Warm even when it's 'cold' outside. The only downside was Blade Runner 2049. Better luck next time...

  • Larry Kading

Nothing better than Casablanca under the stars. Well maybe next time. Odd rainstorm that night but still an awesome time. Great part of town, and chairs were very comfortable.
