My step-daughter went to City Tree for 11 years and my son went to the pre-school for 3 years so I know it about as well as anyone can. I remember the first time I walked into the school and just got a sense of it as a special, vibrant place - all these years later, that feeling has not changed. My step-daughter's class mates are, in a very real sense, a family (even after graduation) and that family feeling goes beyond her class to the the rest of the school and also encompasses the parents as well. The school has a very active PTO which enriches the school experience. For me though, I expect an excellent education from any school and City Tree delivers in three key areas: 1. Academics. Attentive teachers and small class sizes means high quality education from science (the school science fair was always a favorite) to social studies, by way of Spanish and Math. In middle school, targets to get honor roll are higher than you will find at other schools to reflect that quality. 2. The broader curriculum. As important as academics are, I also particularly value emphasis on art, music (choral, and orchestral) and sports (my step-daughter played basketball and volley ball for the school and, in middle school, had PE at the Kroc Center). She learnt to play the flute and played in many performances ranging from the Coronado Parade, to school concerts, to playing at Sea World and Disneyland. She particularly enjoyed the many field trips from Sacramento to Washington DC. 3. Christian faith and character. Last but certainly not least, City Tree is a Christian school and my kids benefited so much from a Christ-centered experience. The school nurtures and develops faith and the ability to articulate that faith and, rather than just thinking about this in terms of chapel time once a week (although that is there too), Christ permeates everything, from character traits, to chapel families (where kids from all ages mix together) to day-to-day operations and interactions. I have no hesitation in recommending City Tree to anyone interested, particularly if, like me, you work in downtown San Diego (I would walk to the school to join my step-daughter for lunch once a week during elementary school). The focus on the complete educational experience can not be over-stated and I believe your kids will benefit as much as mine.
City Tree Christian school is such a wonderful community for my children. My oldest, who is very shy, has grown tremendously in confidence and has learned so much academically and socially. All the teachers are very invested in each child's education and work to create a community that integrates children of all ages. This integration allows the students to explore their gifts of leadership and practice serving others. My three daughters each started at the school in preschool and will continue through 8th grade. I'm so excited to watch them mature in their faith, be challenged academically, and experience trips to Catalina, Sacramento and DC. Each child also gets to learn Spanish, music, band, technology and more. Come check out the phenomenal community at City Tree!
We have been going to City Tree for almost six months and are very happy and pleased with the school. Gabe (2 years old) loves all the teachers and has really flourished under their care. They have worked with him on potty training, numbers, letters, reading, motor and social skills. The school feels very safe and has a great down to earth feel. We loved his home day care center, but moved him to City Tree so we could be closer to him during the day. I’m able to have lunch with him once a week and their weekly newsletters keep me connected to what is happening at the school with photos and fun stories. I would recommend City Tree.
Both my sons attended City Tree. One attended from Kindergarten to 8th grade and the other Preschool to 8th grade. The Preschool, Elementary and Middle School all offer excellent academics, small class size, great teachers, a safe environment, strong Christian teaching, caring staff, field trips and so much more. Students graduating from the Middle School are well prepared for High School. City Tree has a strong sense of community and became a second family to us.
Both of my sons went here, from at least kindergarten through eighth grade. A wonderful experience for them, a high level education combined with a caring, close knit environment. Teachers and staff are great, they really know and support their students. Highly recommend.
Great and awesome school !!! So glad my kid goes there!!!
