Just experienced the absolute worst service of a lifetime. The food was delicious but I am not sure if the server was new or overworked, it was just one error after the other. We ordered 2 butter chicken thali and asked if the thali comes with gulab jamun and the server responded with a yes. The server asked what kinda naan bread we would like and we said garlic naan please, if possible. The server leaves and shortly after we receive food.....We received one bowl of butter chicken, one order of garlic naan and another order of plain naan. We were confused becaue it didn't look like the chicken thali we had ordered. I offered to pay for the garlic naan since they had already prepared it, sent back the bowl of butter chicken, and requested the 2 chicken thalis instead. We received the correct order this time, but we had no cutlery. Upon request we received the cutlery and finally started eating. The food was delicious and we enjoyed it very much. After we finished our food, the server brought out an order of gulab jamuns. Again, this was not our order, but hey, we love gulab jamun. She's probably super busy and it's okay. We were totally chill at this point too. We asked for a spoon because our table was cleared before we got the gulab jamun and we had no cutlery. The server got busy and couldn't bring us the spoon. After a few minutes, she retuned to ask if we like the gulab jamun. Bruh! We have no spoon. By this time I was losing patience but I stayed quiet coz I don't want to ruin someone's evening. Finally, we received the bill. I paid 20% tip coz we all have bad days and I didn't want to be mean. The transaction completed and I noticed that I was charged extra for a butter chicken that we never ordered or received. I was so pissed by this time and requested for a refund on the extra product. The server offered to give us an order of butter chicken instead, but we didn't want it in the first place. SMH! On insisting she retuned $19 for the butter chicken we were charged, but overall the experience was absolutely terrible. We overpaid for garlic naan, gulab jamuns and were charged for the butter chicken too that was sent back. Before we got the bill, we were convinced that it was probably just a bad day and we would love to return at least a couple times every month. After this incident I am so disappointed. The food was excellent but the service was the absolute worst. If needed, our table number was 18, transaction # was 610910.

You know when you leave things behind and come to start something new, you also leave behind things you enjoyed a lot that have memories attached to them and are a part of you and what makes you. The things we term as nostalgia and fond memories. one of the fond memories for me is to eat a sizzler and thing is it's really hard to find this part of the world and when you find one you are more than overwhelmed to see it come out and you know enjoy the whole thing. the difference being that when you're in India but their sizzlers are on a different level there a whole meal in itself like having a four-course meal in one on hot sizzling plate smells really freaking great and we order of a 2 or 3 sizzlers for the whole bunch at the table. of course I went into it knowing that this would not be the same as it is back in India but still it managed to get the taste and get that feeling I always have with sizzler. Over all the food was really good the presentation, the taste and the anticipation. This Clay Oven I suppose it's the oldest of all the Clay oven and it is one of the better Clay Ovens of all I don't know if it's managed better or if it has its own like place and has its customer base and like they have a good turnover rate that's the reason it is really good but again having said that they should really work on printing newer menus or make it digital rather than giving old tattered ones. The service was good and the ambience set was nice. Its a good place to have some good Indian food experience.

Been a customer since Clay Oven first opened. When you consider the smaller servings, it's always been a bit more expensive than the majority of Indian restaurants, however the taste, service, atmosphere, and the wonderful owners made it worthwhile. Unfortunately that's no longer the case; the proces are now too expensive for the aforementioned to make up for it, and now it's a dated atmosphere, and the bathroom is even a bit grubby and needs some maintenance (leaking faucets etc). Example: Two small adults(each under 150lbs), we each had one drink(total $14), shared an appetizer($14), ordered three dishes, and two orders of naan. The leftovers will only feed us one more meal, and the bill was over $110. We have no issue spending that amount on a meal on date night, but Clay Oven just isn't worth it. Yes, I'm taking into consideration the fact that Covid made restaurants food costs skyrocket. The server said "here is your complimentary rice" when she set it down, so I feel like they're doing whatever they can to make their customers feel as though they're getting a decent value, short of offering a decent value. If you aren't aware, rice is always included with Indian dishes, naan is usually included as well, but our four pieces of naan cost $6.40. The food and service is still fantastic though.

First, I love Indian food that is so delicious and multi-flavored! It's a franchise and I went to portage location with my Indian friends before, which was my first time to try Indian food and it surprised me. So I came to this one on Kenaston with my girl. The food was still nice, but they made some mistakes like they forgot to serve the dishes I ordered and also they put wrong price on my bill. They overcharged me $7+tax for the fish and I had to find it out by myself. Then they gave me $7 back but without that tax... Well, I have to say that you should not expect to earn tips by just asking how's everything going and waiting for tips when running a restaurant. You should serve with your brains... Anyways, I still love Indian foods but I think I am not going to this location again... For the dishes, butter chicken is kind of too sweet for me, but might be a good try for most of you. Spicy lamb is definitely my favorite and should always be picked. As for the fish, called Pickeral, I think it was not fully cooked and smelt a bit. So I wouldn't recommend that fish. And also the vegetable tempura was tasteless... All these reviews are my personal and I would still recommend you guys to give it a try. Have fun!

We went there for dine-in. Firstly we order appetizers and one of the appetizers was sour in taste and we asked for refund, but they told us that they can replace it and we agreed to that. At the same time we ordered main course. Server asked us whether we want our replaced item along with main course as both are ready and we told them to give replaced item first. After sometime server came to us and told that it will take some time to prepare our food and we told them to cancel the order but then server told us that they are already making it so we agreed to wait for food. But after sometime their manager (Navdeep)came and asked us what's the matter and her tone was very rude, even we were talking to her by saying sister and already told the server we can wait for the food but she asked us whether we want to cancel our order. Then by talking to that rude lady we confirm her that we are waiting for our food but she told us rudly that i will cancel your order then we moved to reception to pay for our food and saw the server in half way of taking our food and she waive to him to take the food back.

Visited Clay Oven on Saturday !! One of the top restaurant in Winnipeg which gives really bad service and bad food. We were nine people on that day we reached at 8:30 pm and they welcomed us. We ordered some appetizers and we received our some items after a while but, she gave spoons and forks just to only four people and we asked three times for the spoons. After that, in the middle of eating appetizers she asked for the main course we told her for wait sometime for this and after waiting five minutes she came again for the main course order so, we ordered but she prepared the main course food just after a while and we haven’t finished our appetizers and some appetizers were pending by which she gave us some appetizers with main course!! TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL SERVICE AND BAD FOOD I am attaching some pictures of food like the chicken wings was not cooked as it needed, very low quantity of paneer in the karahi paneer , bhindi was really untasted , lassi was too sweet and much more ! WASTED MONEY($450)AND TIME !
When we first came to Winnipeg we asked a local where to get best authentic Indian food. They mentioned clay oven. Never visited another place. The food is always amazing, we order on Uber eats and have visited. Some servers are amazing! Amani to name one, they do get busy so just know but never had a bad meal here. Might be pricey but you are always satisfied. I get an entree, samosa platter, and naan and perfect amount of food for my daughter and I (at 1 and 2 years old). Amani has been the best server we’ve had. He’s attentive, kind, accommodating, and consistent. Must check out restaurant if looking for great authentic food.

Most sitting is on first floor there are a few booths up a few steps. Not sure if there is a ramp.
I was suppose to pick up sweets and called them beforehand to get it ready/packed as i was already running late. The girl on the phone confirmed the order and told me to pickup in 10 minutes. I reached store after 30-40 minutes and told them i am here to pickup the order. The girl at the front said let me first help the people in front of you, which was fine with me. After that ignoring me she got busy with taking the phone calls. After having me waiting for about 20-25 minutes she finally came to me to help. Again she literally took 10 minutes to pack 1 box of sweets (as she didn’t seems familiar with anything) for which i called about 1 hour ago to get it ready. I must say worst service. My order was just the sweets which just have to be packed and still taking ages to get it done. Why are you talking orders over the phone if people still have to come in and place the order again instead of just picking up and leaving?

I would like to say this place is best for Indian food.I went here with my friends and we were in total 12 people .The service provided by tejbir was so good . All the staff member were working hard to provide great service. I literally like this place because everything is just perfect with the taste and texture. Even the manager Jashan she is so sweet . Always welcome everybody with a perfect smile. This place perfectly feels like home to all of us. Even the owner Pankaj Ji was so good as he personally came and ask whether everything was okay . I can proudly say why this place is so famous . It is just because of the hard work of Pankaj ji , manager Jashan and outstanding staff.

We went here for the first time in 7 years as a celebration of seeing old friends. We all remembered the Clay Oven as excellent. Sadly that was not the case. The food wasn't heated properly, the chicken kebabs were tasteless, the naan was too doughy. Within a very short period of time after leaving thr restaurant, 4 of us had an upset stomach so it had to be down to the meal. The washrooms were not clean at all so that added to our bad experience. We will not be going back! The only good thing to say is that we had excellent service from our waiter.

Went for dinner there tonight and it did not disappoint! We had the best masala chai (free refills btw) and some delicious palak paneer, butter chicken, chana masala and dahl makni. Everything was absolutely delicious. The naan was . The atmosphere was very welcoming and we had one of the best servers I’ve ever had who told us she goes by the name Raman. She gave the absolute best restaurant service we’ve ever had and she was very knowledgeable on menu items as well as quick, efficient, polite and friendly. Thank you so much for making our dining experience a positive one, Raman, you were amazing! We will be back!

I would have preferred to send an email right to the restaurant but can't get their website to load. I don't want this to sound like a harsh complaint - everybody has bad days, and maybe I was there for one - but this was among the worst Indian meals I've had in the city. Tandoori mixed grill was way over salted, and the chicken kebabs were rubbery; vindaloo chicken was basically chicken coated in a thick tomato paste (at least that's what it looked and tasted like); aloo gobhi masala was salty, had almost no sauce, and the cauliflower was cooked to mush. Everything seemed to lack sauce/was dry, and very salty. Please accept this review as feedback with the intention to help, and not as an angry customer who just wants to complain :)

Visited Clay oven last night after lots of reviews. The restaurant was fine, even our food was good, a bit spicy because we ordered hot. Not complaining about that. But when it came to ordering dessert, we got kheer (rice pudding) and garela (carrot pudding). When the kheer arrived it was literally milk and rice, so runny. I asked the server if I could return it, and they said no at first, I asked the server if they knew that's not how it's supposed to be and the server agreed that that's not how it's supposed to be. Later, I was told to taste it first or pack it up and take it home. That's when i decided not to pay for something I don't like. It would have been fine if they would have just taken it back without so much discussion. Oh and before taking it back the server asked me if I had 'eaten' it. Attaching photos for evidence.
Yesterday we had the worst experience. We ordered takeout and instead of lamb we found shrimp in our lamb biriyani. Turned around went back to restaurant and they rectified the order only to give us the worst biriyani we had ever had from the restaurant. Again turned around to return all the food and get a refund. First they said they would only give us restaurant credit but as I refused and as I was leaving the restaurant called back and refunded. We have been going to the restaurant for many years and we had realized that chicken dishes were not so great. Once we had ordered chilli chicken and it was so bad that we had to throw it out and we stuck to lamb/goat dishes only. After yesterdays experience not sure if we will ever go this restaurant again.

This is absolutely the worst experience I have ever had ordering catering. We ordered for 50 people to be delivered at 12:15. At 12:25 when the order had not arrived yet I called and was told the driver left already. Keep in mind we are literally located across the street from them (550 meters to be precise). At 12:45 when they had still not arrived the inept woman on the phone said was asking me to confirm the address and we confirmed that the address was correct and she offered no solutions. The driver finally arrived at after 1:00 with COLD food and stated that he was given the wrong address and phone number when in fact the correct number and address were on the top of the receipt. Will never order from any clay oven location again. Awful.

Excellent customer service with perfect quality and quantity in a reasonable price . I’ve tried so many restaurants in Winnipeg but this one is excellent and staff is also very welcoming and friendly. This Indian restaurant is truly a gem! The food is outstanding, offering a wide variety of authentic dishes that burst with flavor. The manager, Jashan is just amazing- friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, making the dining and carte-ring experience truly enjoyable. I highly recommend trying their signature dishes. A must-visit for anyone craving a memorable Indian dining experience. Kudos to the team!

Went here yesterday for dinner and asked the server for no cilantro on everything. When the dishes came, 2 had cilantro sprinkled over top (the chicken Biryani and Paneer Labab Dar). We asked the server if this was cilantro and she insisted it was coriander (they are essentially the same thing). She did her due diligence by asking the kitchen and the woman in black told her it is mint, when in fact it was cilantro. Cilantro has a distinct flavor and taste from mint and it was definitely not mint. I don't think this is the server's fault, I blame the kitchen. The portion sizes in restaurant are much smaller than what you would get for take out. This was a below average dining experience.

This location is pretty good situated. Parking is available around and in front of the restaurant.i believe they spend time on their clealiness of the restaurant and the station etc. i have tried there food couple of times, food is good and hygienic. East indian food with different level of spices. Bar is located on the other side if you are interested. Dine in area is pretty good split in different sections. I like almost everything about this location other then customer service which I felt is lacking. They need more training in that. Not only I felt that with me I noticed with other people too. it is the most important part of the industry so you should work on that.
Yesterday I had my lunch over here, and everything was just as perfect as it should be. The food, staff, and dinning area and stuff was too good. For the food, I gotta say Shruti(one of their staff member) have a best selection in food. I was quite confused and asked her what would be the best food to have for lunch and she suggested kadai paneer and it was beyond my expectations . To be honest, as an Indian customer clay oven is one of the best places to have food in Winnipeg. And the staff is also too friendly, polite and happy to help anytime. Might need to give a visit to clay oven every other day ✌️.

If you are thinking to order a take out from this Clay Oven; please think again. With self pick up 10%off, I got 3 little pieces of goat meat in the dinner meal “Thali Platter-Goat Thali Dinner”from Clay Oven by paying more than $16 dollars. Be honestly, if I know there is only little main food like that; even with 50% off I still would rather save the gas not going to order and pick up a dinner like this. I don’t know what happened to this restaurant; but as a regular client, it is very upset and disappointed experience. Situation of these days is not easy for everyone; not only the business owner. (Spicy chill chicken was ok; that‘s an other $17 dollars)
Impeccable service with great food! Visited this restaurant on 29th May. The staff was welcoming, always asked for water refills, and was very attentive. I had a mixed grill starter, which was served on a sizzling plate. For mains, we ordered goat masala, spicy chilly chicken along with garlic naans! Perfect texture and amazing taste. Personally, I found that the quantity served for goat curry was pretty less, but the quality was excellent, so it's win-win. Will visit here again!

I dined here yesterday and my experience just sucked!! The servers looks so overworked and the woman at the front desk behind the counter was so rude. The place wasn’t even clean. I don’t know if they even have a manager because when I asked for one no one came to talk to me. The food took a while to come to the table and the service was really bad as I could observe that there were a lot more tables for each server to work on. The management is non-existent. So not worth visiting!! Over-hyped and overpriced.

Tried dinner with my entire family and was embarrassed myself because of their environment and food quantity. Staff are gossiping in the background. I used to go there every other week but their quantity of food keeps on reducing and the price going up. Would recommend takeout as you get more. But there is nothing you can do with the environment itself. Staff needs to be more professional

Went here for dinner. Ordered the spicy chill chicken and asked them to make it medium hot. However it was not hot at all. In fact it tasted more like Hakka style chicken Manchurian. It was disappointing. The naan bread was soaked in oil and it became soggy. Not good at all. They give good quantity but food was average at best. They also charge extra $2 for ordering the halal option. This is something I have not come across before. Staff are polite and service was good. But will probably not be coming back again.

Extremely poor service and unexceptional food. The complete lack of accountability for massive errors in our order made it abundantly clear that they are a business that operates solely on volume, completely forgoing any semblance of customer care. I’ve received far better customer service at most fast food restaurants, so it doesn’t even seem fair to dub them the “fast food” of Indian cuisine, as that gives them too much credit. So many better options in this city - please don’t bother with this place.

#Second_hand_food I ordered Chana bhatura thali and chicken thali. Chicken was very bad and so sweet. They gave other dishes like mix veg, sweet paneer and rice etc. Everything was super sweet. Not a good place for people who are pre diabetic or having diabetes as their sugar levels will go up right away when they will eat the sweet curries from here as they have good amount of sugar. Especially the mix veg and rice, both were not fresh and tasteless. I'm very disappointed. Idk why they call it Indian cuisine. Indian food is not like this.
Wow so glad someone got me a gift certificate. I came to use it, and found out the food is really good! Be careful of the Hakka food, it's spicy. But your place is really high class feeling. Will come back to enjoy it soon!

Always feels good to visit here. Always warm welcome and really nice staff. Food is always perfect, nice view of outside, good sitting, good interior and lighting. Servers really care about the customer and try to make their visit memorable and not like other places that forgets that the customers needs something or wait too long for their food. Food is always hot and fresh and best place to dine in if you like East Indian cuisine in Winnipeg.

So I went to this location as I was visiting the city for the first time. Coming from a small city like saskatoon, the portion size at comparable price amazed me. For 17 bucks u get enough food to feed at least 3 people. Food tastes generic, like what u get in every other Indian restaurant. But, for 50 bucks, u can well feed three people. Location is great too The only issue I had was , I specifically asked for disposable plate, and they forgot to provide any The front desk young girl was really nice and friendly.
HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! We just went to their location for dine in after driving for about 30-40 mins. We were there exactly at 9:20pm, asked for a table. Spoke with one of their staff members, he told us “We are already closed. We accept last dine in at 9:15pm.” This was very disappointing. The last they accept for dine in is anyways 9:15pm. They should’ve let us in as a coutesy. This was really disrespectful! Not recommended at all.

The food is great, service good. I would like to see better seating. The booths are sat out and the cubes for the otherside like going to a kids birthday party. The seating doesn't match the quality of the food and atmosphere over all.

These two stars are for the food that they serve, delicious and flavorful, but on my last visit, I had to change my mind about how many stars to give them, because only their service have deteriorated. We were treated really badly, our appetizers came in very slowly and our drinks were only served after they served the main course. I have seen their good days. I hope management would look into it now and train servers better on customer service! Date of visit: 9 October 2:45 pm
One of the good Indian Restaurant in Winnipeg. I found something odd on my order. I ordered chicken biryani. Is that a hair? It’s too short to become a hair and it’s kind of thick too. I hope it’s not a hair. If someone can confirm. Also, I hope they use other parts of chicken too because it feels like just cut up chicken breast on pre made sauce.

Impeccable service with great food! Visited this restaurant on 17 July . The staff was welcoming, always asked for water refills, and was very attentive. I had veg platter starter, which was served on a sizzling plate. For mains, we ordered veg thali, along with garlic naans! Perfect texture and amazing taste. And staff was very nice appreciate and Thanku for make my day

The biryani was not up to the mark...it was more like mutton pulao..I have never seen a biryani with sweetcorn and peas..Unpleasant experience...The quality of the food has deteriorated.. Rasmalai felt like medicine and Lacha parantha was too soggy. This place was first preference for us in dine in before but not anymore.

Recently we had the worst delivery experience. Ordered two goat thalis and as you can tell from the pictures, one of it was fine but the dal makhni in one of thalis seemed like scrapes of whatever was left and full of oil (not edible). We ended up throwing it away! Also the green chutney in the harabhara kebob was sour and spoiled (see pic). Such disappointing experience!

Complete fraud! Bait and switch. They have the wrong descriptions for food items. When the customer orders and doesn't get what they were suppose to get, they do not issue refunds or new food. That is bait and switch and fraud. Customer is left with food that they did not order with no recourse.

The best Lamb Chops I have ever tried. The lamb is prepared in such a perfect way. The manager, Jashan, always make sure that you are having everything you need. The server, Tejbir, knows what you need before you ask. If you love Indian food, then you should definitely come here. You won't be disappointed. The prices are very reasonable. You will always get fresh food.

Food was good, spice scale definitely not cared about, despite me saying indian hot to the server. (Gave me the blandest curry chicken I've had in my life) Servers seemed distracted/busy inspite the fact there was only 2 tables being occupied at the time. Good for a quick bite or for trying something a bit different, but definitely not a place to try if you're looking for authentic indian food.
Honestly, it was a very good experience. Our server Tyler gave us 11/10 cusotmer service. Food was fresh and delicious. My friend can't have spicy food and I love spicy food so having side of hot sauce and chili pepper was really nice. Butter chicken and Naan bread was really good too. Only thing I didn't like was that the veggie noodle dish had very little amount of veggie in it but cost $15.
Received service by "Shruti". She was very friendly and professional. I recomend "Lamb Thali", it was amazing. Small portions of tasty food dessert with fresh baked bread.

Ordered biryani and veg hakka noodles. The biryani tasted excellent however noodles were a huge disappointment. Item description had paneer in the veg noodles but as you can see in the pic, there wasn’t a single piece of paneer and very less veggies. Basically, made me pay 16.99 for dry tasteless noodles

Uncooked and Burnt food in one platter. Zero customer Service. Ordered the meat party platter for the variety and the real variety was one item was uncooked and other was overcooked. I called back Clayoven and they want me bring back the items to them, I said I could send image to their email Id but no avail. I will be driving now for 30 mins to drop it back at clayoven.

I tried it’s other location at portage which was good. I don’t know what’s wrong with this location. I ordered Biryani with skip where I found a small piece of polythene. I considered that. Again i ordered on uber eats and found a piece of plastic and aluminum type of sheet in the rice. Really frustrating and decided not to visit this location again.
Outstanding service from our waiter, Masab. We felt like trying new dishes and he answered our questions about menu items and was so helpful. Masab recommended the best Lamb Chops we have ever tasted. Absolutely delicious food and wonderful service.

Always love visiting Clay Oven and the variety of dishes that they offer. Tried Hakka dishes that are a fusion of Chinese and Indian as well as some staples like the chicken tikka masala. Generous portions that are great for the next day and especially love their naan which pairs perfectly. Will keep coming back! More

The atmosphere was pleasant, clean environment, friendly and helpful staff. The food is always delicious. The lamb biryani is very tasty. You have got to try that mango mojito!! The only disappointment was that they didn't have any Kingfisher or Singha beer. The caesar can also be better.
First time trying east indian food 10/10. service 20/10. Servers were so helpful and fast. We are not used to spicy, but the dishes were amazing and more enough for sharing. The star of the evening hakka prawn noodles mild. We are definitely coming back. Thanks Clay Oven
Servers are friendly and food is so good. You can see chefs are from India. We ordered Butter chicken curry and prawn curry. You can modify spicy levels. I ordered my prawn curry as spicy and it was quite spicy even I am good at eating spicy. Thx for bring me there Da!
Clearly specified that we needed a mildy spiced biryani but instead we were given an extremely spicy one. The waitress simply defended that she did specify mild when placing the order and gave us yoghurt. Not happy at all with the service. Definitely won't recommend.
Delicious food. Tried Goat thali. With Goat curry comes with small portions of various dishes. You can have taste of different flavors. Size of the portion is enough for one person.

Great place and food. Especially the staff, my server Tejbir Singh was too good. He was quite experienced in his way of handling numerous customers, thinking on his feet and his way of talking to others. Really enjoyed there. I recommend it to everyone.
It was an awesome experience! The food was well spiced and they all tasted great! I sometimes get heartburn when I eat Indian food, but surprisingly, i felt nothing after eating here. I even took leftovers home. Will definitely go back.
Service has gone down over the years. We got our appetizers after the main course and when I asked the server, his only answer was a funny smile. Food wasn't as good as it used to be. One of the picture shows appetizer with main course meal.
If u guys don’t know how to manage please close serving with doordash, skip thanks. Drivers are waiting sometimes more than 20 minutes as per the pick up time. But still u guys are keep accepting orders and don’t know how to manage. Thanks
Placed an order with DoorDash for lacha paranthas and the order was delivered in a broken box leaking air from all sides! The rotis were not wrapped on any foil paper or packaging to keep them warm and on top of it this restaurant didn’t
