I've been coming to Cocoon since 2019 (and honestly aside from rent and food, most of my disposable income probably comes to this little urban oasis). From the front desk ladies who have greeted me by name since my second visit -- feeling horrible I can't remember their names as I write this (will update when I do) -- whose vibes are **immaculate** to Vy and Thuy who provide the most insanely detailed mani/pedis, and Genevieve who really takes the time to learn your skin and what you need (I even sent my fiancé to her when he was having dry skin), there's so much to love about Cocoon. I originally bought a massage subscription package after I met Romeo (absolute king of massages) almost 3 years ago, but between COVID/inflation and once he started spending more time at the Noe Valley location (cheers to you guys!), I considered canceling my subscription -- until I met Megan D. I cannot say enough how incredibly lucky I feel to have stumbled into her massage room: Professionalism: From doing an intake of what I'm looking for in a massage, the pressure level, checking in throughout the massage, and then debriefing with me after, there was not a single moment I didn't trust I was in the best hands possible. Skill: I sit at a desk all day and fly for work so often that when I come to Cocoon, I'm usually a half-broken human. But not only do I leave Megan's table feeling amazing, I also wake up the next morning feeling even better - I had no idea this was possible. I've also been dealing with some obnoxious plantar fascitis over the last few months and had no idea that was something that a massage could fix. I didn't even mention it to her but she found it, dug in, and I'm pain-free for the next couple of weeks. Personality: Everyone at Cocoon is always sooooo sweet, and that's a big part of why I love this place so much, but from the first time I met Megan I was like how can I be best friends with this girl??? She has such a positive vibe and is so warm and friendly, you can really tell she loves her job and her clients.

Update:I am updating my review to five stars as Kasa from Cocoon urban day spa went above and beyond to help resolve my case. Upon review she acknowledged the mistake and in fact took an action to make it right. They organized a O2 facial + LED light treatment to ensure I did not get scar after the waxing skin lift mishap. Facial and LED light treatment was so amazing it definitely helped in accelerating healing of my skin. I booked the same facial month from now and will definitely be going to this place again Old review: I will not recommend this place to anyone and here is why: Front desk/receptionist inconsiderate and unfriendly, junior estheticians unskilled in face waxing. Avoid this place at all cost I went for facial waxing to this place and the procedure resulted in massive skin left and my entire left side of the face was kinda burnt. But my bad review is not really just for that because I understand these things sometimes happen. So giving them benefit of doubt I went again showed them what happened and lead esthetician was nice and recommended couple of options so that I don't get a scar. However its the front desk/management that handled it very badly. They scheduled a follow-up for me to assess after one week what can be done and when I called to ask them to reschedule they were like we will need to charge you. So not only they messed my skin badly and then they were highly inconsiderate and inflexible to reschedule my appointment and threw so called the price/charges in my face. In summary: they messed up my skin and they also threw tantrums and inflexibility to resolve the damage that happened because of their mistake

From check-in to check-out, the two front ladies that were there today (Saturday) are super duper nice and very personable. Just a great vibe. Very helpful and no snooty-ness. I really liked them. I was not expecting much a lot from the massage. Knew I feel good after. Esteban asked my concerned areas and I said my shoulder and foot but I told him that I didn't expect him to fix my foot as I thought it was something I needed to see a specialist. Then i said still want him to focus on my whole body. Esteban, within 10 min, I could tell he had years of experience. He is really good. He found tightness and tension in areas I didn't even expect. He was very focused, and he did multiple techniques, so you know that's he's not just massaging but really focused on removing your tension and tightness. It felt like he could just feel where i was sore and spent extra time and focus on certain areas rather than just timing and going through the motions. After I was done, I felt so relaxed and I couldn't stop smiling and my whole body even my foot felt better. He is by far the best masseuse I encountered in my 10+ years. Normally, I don't really have a preference for a masseuse as I normally feel kind of the same, great but still a little bit sore... But Esteban is seriously a really great masseuse. I still feel great after more than an hour. I couldn't help but compliment him as I never felt great overall. He definitely will have a regular client!! Please ask for him and make sure to tip him really well!

I booked a spa party for my best friend's bachelorette party 3 separate times - once using their online form (no one ever called me back), and twice over the phone with the spa manager, Abby. The first time, she entered too many digits for the credit card deposit, and it didn't go through. Did she call to follow up? No. If I hadn't called back the next day to follow up on the fact that I didn't receive an email confirmation, my friends and I would've showed up thinking everything was ok when the day/time was never actually reserved for us. So I'm thinking: close call. But now, everything is going to work out alright. Abby asks me to stay on the phone while she puts the deposit charge through. She assured me that the charge went through and we were all set for that specific day and time. But when I called back another day to confirm how long our services would actually take (so that I could know what time to book the next activity), I was told by another staff person that my spa party (which is still over a month away) isn't in the system and my day/time has been booked with other parties, so they won't be able to accommodate us. UPDATE: They found my booking under a misspelled name. Let's hope everything goes smoothly when my party arrives. If so, I will update my review again.

Let me preface by saying that I’m fairly new to the city so maybe my sense of price to quality might not be extremely accurate for SF. Went here for a massage and mani/pedi. The technicians were alright, not spectacular. What I was most disappointed were the facility, ambience and product quality. The massage oil was not fragrant, relaxing and particularly hydrating or left my skin soft. And tbh at that price for mani and pedi, I would expect better than OPI and Essie for nail polish, which, as expected, resulted in chipped nails after 3-4 days (and I usually go like 4-6 weeks before the tiniest chipping, and yes with nail polish not gel). The space was set up in a weird way—a shop, a spa and a nail bar combined in one? And the shop is in the middle of the two service areas? Too noisy and ‘exposed’ in a sense, and I was frankly too shocked and stressed to feel relaxed. Also no facility and amenities you typically see at a day spa (or at least the ones I’ve been too). Honestly I think it’s at this price point purely for the location. Even if this place has appropriate pricing for SF, I would not come back. Personally I would either choose a place that only focuses on giving the service for cheaper, or pay more to get a genuinely relaxing day spa experience.

This review specifically pertains to permanent makeup I had done by Megan at Cocoon Urban Spa in October 2019. I wanted to get Microblading done for a while now and found this spot. After checking out Megan's awesome work on Instagram, I pulled the trigger and made an appointment. Once I got there, Megan consulted me on shape, I showed up with how I normally draw in with a pencil to start from. You can tell she has a true perception of artistry to get it looking great; matching face shape, complimenting the eyes etc.. Once we settled on a shape, she went to work. Not going into the nitty gritty, however it was only uncomfortable at worse, not very painful at all. She does put some numbing on as well. But if you are used to being poked and prodded in the name of beauty already - you will be absolutely fine. After, the colour is a bit intense but it mellows out reasonably quick. There also was some peeling but it was totally expected and it wasn't too bad to deal with. Just completed my follow up 30 day appointment and I am completely satisfied with the results!! The only regret I have, is I did not do this sooner! If you are thinking about it - go for it!! :)

I've been here a few times already and so far, the experience here has been great. It's easy to get here via BART or MUNI (e.g., just walk down 1st St from Montgomery station). It's in the same building as Local Kitchen, just need to go up the stairs. On one side is the nail salon with comfy-looking chairs. It's well-lit with mostly natural light during the day. On the other side is the spa. It's darker here, with a more relaxing ambiance. I come here for waxing since they had a deal, 4 brazilians for the price of 3. The only downside of this deal is you need to call to make an appointment, can't book it online yourself, but that's a small thing to deal with. The front desk staff as well as the spa staff and friendly and easy-going, and they're good at what they do. Every time I've gone here they've been a bit behind schedule FYI, but I'm not usually in a major rush so it hasn't been an issue yet. After reading some of the other reviews, I'm interested in trying out the Groupon deal for massage + mani/pedi, so I'm sure I'll be back soon to try these out and/or some of their other services.

I recently visited Coccon Spa in hopes of enjoying a relaxing massage as a pregnant woman. Unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory, and I left feeling disappointed and frustrated. I clearly mentioned my pregnancy during the booking process. I expected the spa to have trained professionals who specialize in prenatal massages also have the proper pillows, the masseuse assigned to me seemed ill-prepared to handle a pregnant customer. The side position for the massage was really uncomfortable. The masseuse start the massage on my upper back and then went down to my feet without having a proper changing time. I hope this review serves as constructive feedback for the spa management. Pregnant women, especially those seeking relaxation and relief, deserve a safe and enjoyable experience that takes into account their specific physical and emotional needs. Also they offered me some credits for the inconvenience and after a week I did not get anything yet.

So, having a long distance relationship, I wanted to make my girlfriend feel like a princess for a few hours on her birthday the 16 of November. From the first call all the way to the big day, they were sensetional and super helpful. I can't thank you guys enough, my future wife was very happy with the services on the package which included massage, facial and manicure. The whole team was amazing, special thanks for a Brazilian girl that helped me through the phone and even played my partners favorite song on the speaker when she was getting manicure done. Tears showed up on that moment Can't recommend them enough, professionalism, great service, friendly and they went that extra mile to make my princess happy on a special occasion. The only problem is the pressure my girlfriend is being putting on me for another spa day. Lol Thanks cocoon team!!!

I recently went to this spa for a massage and facial, and also finished with a quick mani. My whole experience was amazing. I made my reservation over the phone and the receptionist was nice and answered my boat load of questions. I feel like I would of gotten annoyed with myself, but she stayed really nice during the convo. From the moment I walked in it was serenity, they offer a menu of complimentary drinks and I was in heaven! My massage was amazing, and so was my facial. My facialist was really nice and explained everything. I needed a manicure, but they were fully scheduled when I checked in for my service, but when I was on my way the receptionist was able to get me in for a express service, which is basically a manicure without a massage and I was on my way. All in all it was a great experience and the service was amazing. I will def be back!

I would give the wax services 10 stars if that was an option. I've been going here for 5 years. The owner, Sarah, could not be nicer and I remember the good-old-days when she did the waxing too! The wax is quick and excellent quality. Mani/pedi - 4 The manicure/pedicure space is serene and relaxing. Nice bonus that there's complimentary champagne. I will say I've transitioned to another nail spot (Zaza) that's slightly less and lasts longer but I will never get a wax anywhere else. Desk/phone service - 3/4 The desk service can be a bit hit or miss unfortunately, which is a bummer since everything else is really excellent. The online booking system really helps with this but their phone etiquette needs a makeover.

I came for a gel manicure and there are def a lot of pro's with this place - it's a really inviting space, comfy recliners to sit in while you're getting pampered, complimentary champagne/tea/cookies, and a ton of different nail colors to choose from. The basic manicure is $25, and for $7 more you can get the "ultimate" mani for $42. You'll get the standard mani (cut/shape nails, clip cuticles etc) as well as a 10 min hand/arm massage and time in heated mittens that'll leave your hands and forearms amazingly soft. There is a $20 additional fee for gel, which they let you know up front (always good!) Solid choice for a mani in the city for sure.

I had a wonderful experience my mani-pedi, massage, and facial were all Amazing!!! My only issue was that myself and my best friend could not have been their only plus size customers ever…none of the robes were large enough for a 2x body. Everyone in this world is not built the same and spas should take that into consideration when offering robes to use to move from one session to another. I will definitely be returning when my work schedule slows down and I hope to see robes of different sizes because the rest of my experience def made me into a customer for life…unless they don’t get larger robes…lbvs!

I'm from out of state. Went here for my birthday as a gift from my boyfriend. The massage was great! The mani/pedi was rushed. So disappointed. I was the only one rushed and there were two other customers and six techs in there. I asked her if I could have gel instead of polish and she said I have an appointment coming in...... um. Even though the other techs could've finished. I gave the benefit of the doubt and watched as I was rushed through and the other techs finished and could've finished me. My boyfriend still tipped them.... i wouldnt have.. that was generous of him.

Amazing gem in Soma. Staff are all over it, super responsive and everything is done digitally which I love. The space is cozy, clean, and well lit, and doesn't smell of fumes the way many nail salons (even nice ones!) do. I've gotten both regular and gel mani pedis done here, and they are always excellent quality. This is the only place I would come for gel as they are very gentle with the removal process to minimize damage to nails. Absolutely recommend getting the packages! Just make sure to plan ahead as they are understandably super popular and often book up.

It was my first time here and I got a Mani-Pedi + massage. The facility was pleasantly quiet and clean. The decor and aroma was calming despite the tense traffic outside. It was unusually quiet in the massage room and Katie was not chatty and she followed direction perfectly making my hour massage very tranquil. Jessica did my nails and she did a great job in preparation for closed-shoes season. Because you have to go through lots of traffic, I recommend taking public transportation to avoid spoiling your mood by looking for parking and dealing with construction.

Lovely, large spa in a convenient location with a nice, relaxing ambience and super friendly staff. My massage was okay but the mani/pedi was the best I've ever had. The room was very nice, quiet, and relaxing, there was the largest assortment of nail polish colors I've ever seen, and the service and treatment by Jessica was top notch. They offer you tea and magazines to read and the chairs were so comfortable I actually fell asleep. Very large room so you could have a group of 8-10 women get mani/pedis together. I'd definitely come back!

The ambience in the waiting area is relaxing. The receptionist was very friendly. The massage tables were pre heated and had an option to keep the heat on throughout the massage or turn it off, I really liked the heated tables. The music was not really soothing, some of it was border line club music just in lower volume. My husband's table was creaking throughout and it was tricky to relax with that noise and the music. The massage itself was very very low on pressure, and didn't change even after asking for some pressure.

I discovered Cocoon Urban Day Spa back in 2017 when I needed to get my bridal party and myself ready for the Big Day. I have been a regular ever since for my mani-pedis, as well as an occasional facial and massage. The service is always friendly, the atmosphere is relaxing and the beauty specialists are well-trained. I also love organic skincare products they use and various specials they offer throughout a year. I look forward to every visit at Cocoon Soma!

I recently decided to try this place for a Brazilian wax because my usual spot was all booked. SOOO happy I did because this will be my new spot!!! I had the absolute best experience start to finish here. The staff and my aesthetician were 100/10. Mo did my wax and I was honestly ready to marry her haha. She did such an awesome and in depth job no one compares and I’ve tried many spots in the city. Thank you for my experience! I highly recommend this place.

Go get yourself a massage by Esteban. I've gone to him twice now and not only is he just a really nice person but he is such a great massage therapist. I went in with stiff hands and sore neck/shoulders. I got a full body massage with specialized focus on these areas. I left feeling amazing and woke up feeling amazing, but what I appreciated most was how he listened to my concerns genuinely helped me. 11/10. I will be back again.

Relaxing atmosphere as soon as you walk in; oasis in the middle of the busyness of SOMA. Great waxing services, love the calm and quiet Mani/pedi area too. I always get my waxing done here. Prices are reasonable, they always have availability and can accommodate changes to reservation and their staff is super professional. Their wax is also high quality and I've noticed it doesn't irritate my skin. Can't recommend it enough!

I just went in for my first appointment with the new Covid restrictions. I was so thrilled that they are both being very strict about keeping everyone safe and healthy while maintaining the relaxing feel of the spa. I have the utmost confidence in them and appreciate all the lengths they have gone through to make me feel a little bit normal again while keeping customers and the employees safe!

After booking an appointment for two massages on the phone and coming from Oakland to San Francisco, the receptionist was very unapologetic about the fact that she only made a reservation for one. Not only did she waste my time and money, it was raining and I couldn't book another appointment at that time. I wasn't offer anything as compensation. Horrible experience and ruined a date.

Went in for a couples massge. The staff here is amazing!!!! From the receptionist to the masseuse themselves. Nothing but amazing!!! So friendly and attentive to your needs. I qas offered refreshments prior to my appt. I was even offered champagne at the end of my massage. Christine and Marnie hands down are the best!!! Would definitely recommend coming here and requesting them.

I've been to the spa multiple times now for manicures, waxing and spray tanning. I'm always met with friendly faces and the services are wonderful. I definitely recommend checking out Lifebooker and Groupon as they often have deals on those sites. The space is clean, welcoming and has easy access to downtown and the bay bridge. I've always found parking in the immediate area.

Their customer service is horrible. They sent to Groupon "..t client.. came for the service on Saturday 05/15/21. So yes her Groupon was redeemed but she had the full service.." when i was unable to get there because car issues. They are unflexible and liers, because of them I couldn't get my Groupon money back!! Not recommended at all

My eyebrows looked the nicest they ever have. My french pedicure looks great --even though I had her cut my nails short because I run. The environment is restful, very light and airy--no chemical smell because they have good ventillation and they don't do acrylics. Friendly staff--able to get a last minute appointment.

Had a phenomenal 60 min massage with Eslit and I have to say it’s one of the best massages I’ve had. He focused just on my back as requested and had the most profesional, sophisticated moves to help my knots. I was blown away by the service and definitely will be returning. Clean, welcoming cozy spot. Highly recommend!

Massage was amazing, one of the best I had in San Francisco, but manicure was “sort of ok” with cuticles and gel polish cracked in 3-4 days. Now it’s been a little more than a week and gel polish already came off. Pretty disappointed as usually my gel polish lasts at least 2-3-4 weeks (done not at this place)

I purchased a deal from Groupon - one hour massage + mani pedi. It was an amazing experience. Along with pampering, we were constantly offered tea/water/champagne and cookies. It was a very good massage and I was happy with the mani pedi. For nail work, they have a great selection of colors to choose from.

Jessica and Denise were super kind, progressional and caring. Mani/pedi for my husband and I was very nice and well done. The atmosphere is beautiful, calm and clean, we got great coconut water, tea (we don’t drink, but we were offered champagne so that’s an option) and felt very welcome and respected.

90 minute lymph drainage massage by Romeo. I was looking for the EOS massage and Romeo understood this technique very well while incorporating his own. The massage was fantastic and I could see and feel the results. I went purely for the esthetic and health benefits. Would highly recommend!

Had the brazilian sugaring. Took less than 15 min., which might explain why this was poorly executed - rarely have I experienced such a lack of thourougness and finishing touches. However, the numbing creme was a nice touch. I will continue coming here for the mani/pedi which are great.

Great mani pedi! Good variety of nail color and the environment is really relaxing. I'm always offered a beverage and there is normally a platter of cookies and sweets out :) I only wish they had the massage chairs and the foot spa tubs- that would make it THE perfect place.

I have only been here for waxing services. It has been hit or miss, mostly miss. They are always rushed. Rarely ever honor my requests (although they always say they will input the info into their system). I go because it is close but I will probably find a new place soon.

Visited a few times while living on the Peninsula. This has become my go-to for massage and nails. Team members (and ownership) are warm and welcoming. A nice getaway in the heart of SOMA's business. You should go here. But not too much so I can still get appointments.

The place was great and the masseuse were awesome. I went for a couple's massage with my bestfriend. We both enjoyed ourselves very much. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I actually purchased another massage and added a mani/pedi for my next visit.

Called receptionist to ask if the carried the advanced acne cleanser, she told me yes, I come down there,which is half an hour from where I live and it's not there. The staff is unfriendly and unprofessional, location is terrible as well. Avoid at all cost

The male therapist did not address the previously discussed issue areas during the massage. Instead of using his hands he used his hairy arms and elbows to apply pressure otherwise no pressure noted. Plus there was no flow. Will not be returning.

Danielle is an incredible esthetician. She is so incredibly knowledgeable on all skin types. I have a genetic disorder and it causes me to have super stretchy and sensitive skin. She works with me to reach my skin goals.

Clean and serene in SF's SoMa District. Aromassage (aromatic massage) on point, mani/pedis done in big comfy recliners with a view up on the 2nd floor. Leave feeling like a butterfly out of the cocoon.

Nice location. The spa itself is clean and cozy. Some manicurists are better than others. I've had a couple of massages there that weren't that great, but the two friends I took there loved theirs.
