I visited this restaurant in December, 2023. I ordered the fresh brewed iced tea and a bowl of the Caldo Gallego to start. The caldo gallego soup nicknamed “Giant Soup” comes from the Galicia region along the northwest coast of Spain. The soup comes complete with great northern beans simmered in a rich stock with smoked ham, chorizo, turnip greens, and potatoes and is absolutely delightful. The iced tea is very good and I would recommend it. I also ordered the Barcelona Chicken and Shrimp from the Specials menu. I didn’t really like this dish. Lastly for dessert I had the white chocolate bread pudding which is made with white chocolate and La Segunda Cuban bread. It is topped with a Bacardi rum sauce. The bread pudding was ok, but not the best bread pudding I have ever had like the menu boasts. I thought that the rum sauce detracted from the overall flavor of the main recipe working against the dessert instead of aiding it. I think the best approach having eaten here a few times now, is to order the original Cuban Sandwich and either the 1905 ensalada or a dessert. The prices on the menu are expensive but worth it depending on what you order. There is a big price range here depending on what you order. The Columbia Restaurant offers daily specials. The service was excellent, my waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. The design and vibe of the restaurant is classical and upscale with a very retro feel which I enjoyed. Overall I would rate 4 out of 5 stars.

Parking
Parking can be a little tricky on a busy night. You may have to drive around a little and it may be frustrating especially if it’s your first time visiting. I would recommend adding 10 - 15 minutes so you are not rushing towards your reservation time. However, around the Columbia Restaurant there is plenty of parking and parking is free.
Kid-friendliness
This is not the best place to bring young kids. It is an upscale restaurant and certainly a mature scene.
Wheelchair accessibility
Not the best place for wheelchairs, the restaurant is very popular and gets very crowded. There are also stairwells so unless you are staying on the bottom floor it is not a great choice.

Hispanic Culture Month ignited my curiosity, leading me to explore the culinary delights of The Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City. As Florida's oldest and authentically Spanish dining experience, this century-old establishment is truly exceptional. Before indulging in the menu, it's worth noting the historical quirks that add to its charm. Beneath the bustling streets of Ybor City, a labyrinth of underground tunnels once facilitated the clandestine transport of booze during the prohibition era. And tucked away within the Columbia Restaurant itself, there's a secret room, a relic from those bygone days when folks were determined to savor their sangria alongside paella and yellow rice. From the moment I stepped inside, the restaurant's ambiance transported me to Spain, with its enchanting decor and captivating live flamenco show. The menu offered a delightful array of dishes, each with a distinct Spanish touch. I started with the Shrimp and Crabmeat Alcachofas, a sumptuous baked casserole of shrimp, crabmeat, and artichoke hearts, crowned with grated Romano cheese and served alongside crispy Cuban crackers. It was a perfect blend of flavors and textures. For the main course, I chose the Palomilla steak, a thinly sliced top sirloin marinated to perfection and swiftly grilled, then adorned with mojo crudo, a zesty mix of chopped onion, parsley, and lime juice. Served with both plantains and a choice of either French fries or rice, this dish was a savory delight. To end this culinary journey on a sweet note, I savored the Flan, a Spanish caramel egg custard with a recipe dating back to 1935 when the Columbia opened Tampa's first "Conditioned Air" dining room, the Don Quixote. They still prepare it the old-fashioned way, and the result was a creamy, decadent dessert that transported me back in time. The impeccable service and the staff's in-depth knowledge of the menu were impressive. They provided recommendations that perfectly complemented my meal and enhanced the overall dining experience. In conclusion, The Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City is not just a dining establishment; it's a living testament to Spanish cuisine and heritage. It's a culinary gem that has earned every bit of its recognition. Whether you're celebrating Hispanic Culture Month or simply seeking an extraordinary dining adventure, this historic restaurant and landmark is an absolute must-visit.

I called and made a reservation for our 33rd wedding anniversary. If you start making reservations on the website, it asks if you're coming for a special occasion. And if you want to watch the flamenco dancers, it says to call to make the reservation. The lady asked if we had a special occasion. I told her yes, our 33rd anniversary. She made the note under my name. When we arrived, the hostess told us Happy Anniversary. Another couple had an anniversary balloon flower arrangement delivered to their table towards the beginning of their dinner. I figured out the man ordered it for his wife. While the dancers were performing, a manager went to the table next to us to tell one of those people Happy Birthday. I'm not sure if anything else was said or given to them. The hostess is the only one who mentioned our anniversary, so I'm not sure why they ask that question online and on the phone. I mention this so others who make reservations for a special occasion aren't disappointed when nothing happens while they're there. Our server, Leilani M., was great. We ordered the Ybor deviled crab croquettes for an appetizer. They're really yummy! Their bottled hot sauce they serve with them is incredible! I ordered the Spanish bean soup and baked stuffed grouper. My husband ordered the 1905 salad with the pompano dinner. The soup and salad were wonderful. We each liked our own entree better than what the other ordered, lol, so I guess we each made the right choice I was really looking forward to trying their coconut ice cream only to be let down cause they were out We ordered a bottle of their Tempranillo Cabernet wine. It was very good. They charge $8.00 per person entertainment fee to watch the dancers. It's well worth that to watch them. We'd never seen anything like that. It was very entertaining. I read the history on their website before we went, which was interesting. I loved seeing the building, pictures, and historic markers outside the restaurant. I wish I could have seen each dining room. The website talks about a dress code. Most people there were dressed up. I was surprised that a couple of guys were allowed to be seated while wearing shorts and t-shirts. I don't know what time their gift shop closes, but by the time we had the late dinner and watched the dancers, it was already closed. It is on the expensive side to have dinner, drinks and entertainment there. After the tip, it was over $200 for the 2 of us, but it was worth it for our anniversary

Went to Columbia Restaurant to celebrate fiancee's bday. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, full of Spanish characteristics and influence. Staff is very accommodating and attentive, making you feel comfortable and welcome, in particular Mr. Jonathan, who took great care of my family. Now, the food: we had some chicken croquetas for Tapas and I ordered Steak Salteado, she went for the Lobster Cannelloni and kids chosen Chicken Manchego and Cuban Pork Roasted. The food was absolutely delicious. I must say though, from the moment we placed the order until the food reached our table, it took about 55 min. Yes, the only downside, it took a very long time for the food to come, and it was a Monday and there was no Paella (on the menu, they ask you to wait at least 30 min for the dish to get ready, so you can have an idea...). The all in all, the flavors of all 4 dishes were absolutely exquisite. The winner on our group vote was the Steak Salteado. It was super tender and salse Very flavorful. Really delicious dish. If you can get there a bit earlier than we did, a Flamenco show will happen on the far right room of the building, just know that there's a $8/person to sit and watch the show, besides the food. I'll go back to the other options. Really great restaurant!

This was my 3rd Columbia location I have visited and by far the best. The other 2 had the same great food, this location has an excellent VIBE and Décor. Order the cuban sandwich, beans and rice and sangria, and would have ordered a second sandwich if I wasn't soooo full from the first one. Sangria was excellent; order the picture and spend some time relaxing, they have a great inside. To say this is worth the drive is an understatement, Columbia Ybor City should be the reason you go to Tampa to eat out.

This restaurant and the specific location are nothing but amazing! The building and different dining rooms are stunning, just like the beautiful Hispanic exterior. We had different main courses along with the 1905 salad. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted very good. Our plates were filled very well and the prices are fair. Our server, Abigail, was doing a fantastic job. She explained a lot about the restaurant, our dining room and knew many interesting stories. Her recommendations were on point and being so passionate about her job made our evening a wonderful experience. The Columbia in Ybor stands out compared to the one in Sarasota, both in terms of location and service. This place is definitely worth a trip. I will definitely return once I am back to Florida! Keep up the good work.

I’ve been told The Columbia Restaurant is a staple and a must try. The restaurant is absolutely stunning and deceivingly large. I started with a bowl of the Caldo Gallego soup it was delicious and not overly salty. The 1905 Salad is a must, and having it made/mixed table side is fun- I did the half and half combo with salad and half of the Cuban sandwich. The Cuban was good, a bit on the dry side could use maybe more mustard or butter on the toasted Cuban bread but it’s not a deal breaker. Finished off with a Cafe con leche and a piece of the olive oil pound cake *CHEFFY KISS* probably my favorite part of the meal, the cake was slightly griddled to and topped with strawberries and fresh cream. Would definitely come again and try dinner. As far as reservations I would say yes make some whether you go for lunch or dinner unless you get there as soon as they open. Parking is vast (at least during lunch 12pm)

Anytime I want to entertain family, friends, and/or clients, I choose the Columbia Restaurant in Ybor. Recently I enjoyed a delicious lunch with friends from out of town. Karyssa, our server, provided a positive memorable experience. Karyssa was highly attentive and proactive in providing us with absolutely superb service that exceeded our expectations. I would also like to recognize John, Manager, for taking us on a tour of the restaurant and sharing his stories about the history of the restaurant. Again, if you have a discerning taste for Cuban inspired food and excellent service, your first choice is the Columbia Restaurant!

This restaurant was a refreshing and unique dining experience. The food was very tasty and as a visitor from Montreal, Canada, there is nothing like this historic establishment. From the bread, to the calamari steak, the paella, the varieties of rice with each dish, truly a must try for any visitor. The experience would not have been as amazing if it wasn't for our 5 star server in Genesis. It is a huge restaurant, but if possible, sit in her section. She was charming, attentive, professional, essentially everything a diner wants from their server. Tack on the restaurant history lesson she provided, and the tour of all the rooms, she is easy one of the best servers anywhere. She really made the experience perfect. Thank you Columbia restaurant and to you Genesis!

This was so great. Wednesday night Dinner. Started off with complimentary delicious warm bread and butter. Ordered the pitcher of Sangria, which was mixed at our table with fresh squeezed citrus fruits. Main dishes were "Stuffed Shrimp "Jesse Gonzalez"" (lump crabmeat on top of the shrimp-- so good), "Eggplant Riojana" (also delicious, and the eggplant was not bitter and prepared really well), and the grilled grouper. All good sized portions, and came with rice and a few vegetables. We went with the flan for dessert, which was also wonderful. We sat in a dining room that felt like we were in a beautiful two-story courtyard of a Spanish villa. Oh, we were able to get a parking spot in their parking lot across the street --very convenient. (Note: the price I quoted as part of the Google queries included tax and tip.)

We took our chances, going on a Saturday, late afternoon, without reservations, but were fortunate enough to get in, and the experience was well worth it! The venue is old world magnificence, the ambiance elegant, the service spectacular and the food absolutely delicious. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the dishes - our party of three each chose very different items and were all delighted. Personally I was delighted with the Spanish bean soup in particular. Wholesome, hearty, satisfying on almost a molecular level, with enough spice to tickle my taste buds without burning them down. When you go (because there is no if - you should!), ask for the history of the statue! Absolutely added to the gravitas of the venue!

An institution you absolutely must try. The food is an old school fusion of Italian/spanish/ cuban and delicious. The 1905 salad is a must - made fresh table side. We just had tapas from there - the black bean cakes were amazing … save room for dessert cause the key lime pie is awesome It’s also obvious the ownership treats their staff well as there were some people who have worked there 20+ years Speaking of service - they delivered. Danine(?) was awesome and when there was a mix up with our food - the manager made sure to come over and make sure we left satisfied.

This is a beautiful place to go have a meal either as a couple or as a group. I had the half a Cuban sandwich with the 1905 salad and it was delicious. They make the salad right there at your table. They describe what is going in the salad. My husband had the Cuban dish and he thought it was okay. We had coconut ice cream in a coconut shell bowl and pumpkin flan for dessert. Both were delicious. The atmosphere is amazing inside and out.

The building is beautiful inside and out! The servers are all so sweet as well! As a free appetizer, each person at the table receives a half loaf of bread and butter. It is crumbly and has a great taste! I ordered “The Original Cuban Sandwich” with a “1905 Side Salad.” Although I wasn’t a big fan of the side salad very much, the sandwich had a pleasant taste. The whole table shared a bunch of the desserts on the menu, and we loved every single one of them! The whole experience here was a blast, and the little store attached to the restaurant is a must as well! 10/10

I came here a few days ago and the wait time was not bad, when we were seated the atmosphere and the decorations in the building were amazing. And their Cuban bread was soooo good . I didn’t know what to order so my waiter recommended me pollo manchego, and it changed my life. That was the best thing I’ve ever eaten ever!! That was the best meal everrr I’m gonna fly back to Florida just to eat here again. I also got the piña colada which was also pretty good. I recommend this restaurant a lot!! I also recommend the pollo mamchego. I’m so grateful the waitress recommended me that because it changed my life

It was a small open front restaurant and what draws you in is the band that is playing very up tempo music and it makes you feel as if you are in Cuba…it’s very small inside but once you sit down and look at the wall decor and the different food being bought out you forget about that part. The menu had a bunch of good selection but we chose the Cubans as they were freshly handmade and can see it and I was interested in the taste as the smell drew me in and the classic mojito is what I had and I am not a drinker but I knew this was a great drink with fresh cut sugar cane on the inside of it I will always go back here when I am in Florida my new favorite place…Thank Yoou

We took our dad out for Father's Day. We had a reservation and although it was a full house, we were seated on time. Our server, Chris is THE BEST. He made our sangria pitcher right at the table. The food was excellent. From the Cuban bread, to the black beans tapas, to the entrée, to the Flan. Beautiful atmosphere, phenomenal food and drinks, and once again I can't stress enough the top of the line service Chris provided us with. My dad had a great time. Thank you!

Absolutely delicious food all around. The scallop tapas was so good I almost cried at the table. Our waiter was fabulous and did not lead us astray once with their recommendations. The paella was perfect and I've never been so sad that I needed a to-go box, I wish I had room to eat it all when it was hot and fresh. Definitely come hungry as every bite is worth it. Us and everyone in line around us had made a reservation, so I would suggest - for dinner especially - you do the same.

We’re new to living in the area and we heard about Columbia so had to give it a try. What a fantastic place. Like stepping into an old world hacienda with beautiful tile work. Food was spectacular, as were the Tableside mojitos. And the 1905 salad can’t be missed. We booked the flamenco show too and we were not disappointed. The 3 dancers were wonderful. What a great place to visit. If I lived nearby, I’d be a regular here. Food and atmosphere was great but the service is incredible. Venessa took such good care of us with food and drink recommendations and top-notch hospitality. Highly recommend Mahi Mahi Cubana (we split it and it’s still plenty), Ybor City Devil Crab Croquettes and you must get the bread pudding (it’s a huge portion.

The crab croquettes were my favorite appetizer here, the sampler plate was okay in my opinion and maybe it’s a different style of Paella but I feel like it lacked flavor. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant and I hear it has several different dining rooms which I’d like to see more of next time. Overall, it was okay. For the price to the quality was mehhh but I’d have to come again and try something else. Side note: the sangria and mojito here were pretty good though so I’d recommend either drink to order!

Okay so I know everyone loves this place… first the positives - The restaurant is absolutely stunning. Everything was so beautiful and I spent the majority of our wait time exploring. The little store had the cutest trinkets too. The service was beyond excellent. Our waiter was so helpful, funny, and made me feel special as it was my birthday… Unfortunately, the food was so underwhelming. It wasn’t awful but it wasn’t above average either. I got the steak salteado. The steak could’ve used more seasoning and the yellow rice wasn’t far off from a box rice. Regardless of the food, the service and atmosphere were so perfect for the occasion.

Amazing service and incredible atmosphere. Food is very good. I was expecting better, but everything we all tried was well executed. The biggest let down? Ribeye( amazing steak, but could have been trimmed and seasoned slightly more) Biggest stand out? White Sparkling sangria( freshly squeezed and muddled in front of you presentation was wonderful ) Cuban bread, Coffee, and our server Mio. Wonderful eveing.

My family and I visited this restaurant on the Saturday after Thanksgiving Day. The food was a disappointment. The Palomilla was dry and covered with a lot of flavorless onions. The stuffed shrimp with crabmeat was just dumped on the plate and added nothing special. The croquettes were also over fried. The Pollo Manchego was a fried breaded chicken with a sauce that my son enjoyed. We sat on a balcony on a second floor and around it were lights decorated for the Holiday. I don’t think we would be back here again. One time for the experience was enough.

We'll be coming back every year as a tradition :)))

One of the best restaurants in the country in my opinion! The food, service, and atmosphere is just amazing. This restaurant has a rich history, is located in Ybor City, has its own shop next door where you can purchase some of their most popular items too! A+++++ (Pricey but SO worth every penny!)

Wow! These place was amazing! 15 dining rooms under one roof and 5 star service anywhere you went. One can truly feel the history and the family's dedication to providing a top quality experience. Our server James went the extra mile in all that he did and even kind enough to take me and my girlfriend on a short tour. There was two live performances happening when we were there and didn't want to leave. Highly recommend this place. Can't wait to return and eat in a different part to experience it in another way

The food and service was exceptional. The 1905 salad is a must. It is the best salad we ever had. Crab croquettes were full of meat and our meals were outstanding (stuffed shrimp and snapper). Absolutely try the 3 inch tall bread pudding for dessert, even if you are full. The sangria was perfect and strong as was the coffee Melanie. Our server Izzy, was spectacular and made our visit even more special.

This restaurant strives for and excels at making you feel like you are in a very special place. I was in awe how they toss salads at the table and the fresh bread was wonderful. Whether a small group of 4 or a large party I saw the staff take care of us all. The food was delicious. I had a half Cuban with salad, One of my friends had red snapper, another had grouper and another friend had salad with grilled chicken. Simply delicious!

1905 Salad, Cuban bread, Paella, and Sangria, with Key Lime pie for dessert. Diego was accommodating and had a great sense of humor. We were seated in the Garden Room and the atmosphere was lovely. We were easily able to have some lovely conversation without straining to be heard. A beautiful meal in beautiful surroundings. This place is a must for anyone wanting a true taste of Tampa and Ybor City. Make a reservation, otherwise you can have an hour or more wait.

Excellent dinner dining experience with my family! The restaurant is a magnificent piece of old Latin art, with multiple dining area…each with its own unique ambience. Our waiter (Jim) was extremely knowledgeable about many aspects of the restaurant, from its long history to the food. The menu was creative, but not overwhelming. The food was very well seasoned and served in a very reasonable amount of time. I would definitely recommend trying this spot!

Beautiful restaurant with a lot of history . Their specialties are cuban infused and original food. I had roast pork with white rice and black beans over it. The beans could've used a little more juice . The flan was delicious, and so was the sangria that they prepared in front of you. Cory was our waiter and he was very attentive and professional .

We sat in the original dining room. Great history but it is a loud room when full. Food was great. Decor and service were great. The history about the red velvet room where Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe would dine was a fun tidbit as was the original $1 premium to pay for the AC back in the 1930’s.
