The french guy that runs this place is incredibly rude. I was biking home when my chain broke. I looked for the closest place and found this one. The problem was, I didn't have my wallet. I explained to the tech there and asked him if I could get my wife to call in and have her give them my credit card number. He said they couldn't do that. I asked if I could pay tomorrow, but that i needed my bike to go home. He said they would call me when it was done, in about 20 minutes, and i could pay tomorrow. He took my number and I told him i was going to walk around the block. He called me and i came right in, but he said I couldn't have my bike until i paid. I thought he was going to let me pay tomorrow, and he said he thought i was going to get the money from 'someone outside', which doesn't really make sense. Then he said i should talk to the owner. I explained, and the owner simply said, 'you need to go get money.' No 'sorry for the confusion', or 'I'm really sorry but...' I asked if they took venmo, and they said No. But, a really nice guy working there said i could venmo him and he would pay. (I gave him a good tip). Then, right before I left, to let the owner know that there were no hard feelings, i asked the owner if he was from Lyon (there was a sign up), he didn't even look up from what he was reading, he just said, yes. This guy was the personification of rude. If he were acting in a movie and trying to play a misanthropic sociopath, the director would have told this guy he was overacting.
I completely regret going to this bike shop. I bought a $400 used bike one week ago and after riding it for four days, the seat kept falling down and I had to tighten the clamp every night. The chain popped off three times. I stopped riding it because it was just a headache. I went back to return the bike only to find out it’s a 30 day warranty, there is not return policy except the 18 month buy back. Which was vaguely explained when we bought the bike and the policy is only listed on the website not on an any of the paperwork I signed. When I brought the bike back, the guy over tightened the seat clamp and I couldn’t adjust it to ride out of the store. He said he couldn’t recreate the chain popping off and sent me on my way, telling me it’s a good bike and everything is fine. I requested that the bike be serviced, as is a part of this 30 day warranty, and they kept saying everything was fine and not believing the issues I was explaining to them. I’ll accept responsibility for not asking the right questions about the return policy but at the end of the day these guys sold me a bad bike and won’t take responsibility for it.
Just have terrible experience dealing with this establishment. I came there to tune up my bike (using Groupon), install new chain and fix wobbly rear wheel. They forced me to install new cassette and tried to push me to install new 29 rear wheel instead of 32 I have. So I would be riding on a bike with 32 front wheel and 29 rear!!!! They have blown up one of the tubes and made me pay for the new one! Why did they touch my tube and tried to inflate completely inflated tube?!!!! Why should I pay for their incompetence?!!!! By phone, they were saying that I will be paying $70 but when I showed up in the place the real price appeared to be more than $100. When I asked why such difference they said that the bike is old! Was it new by phone and suddenly became old when I came to pick it up?!! Then I cycled home and suddenly found out that I cannot change speed on the just tuned bike!!! What did I just paid for?! Extremely unprofessional. I'll never let them touch my bike again!
one of the few bike shops that i've seen that sells used bikes. most of the used bikes are in the basement. if the door is closed, ask about going down there! it's a little musky down there, so take a mask, lol! i was able to take my time 'n try out (just sitting / fitting, not riding) out the few bikes in my size on my own down there, which was nice to not be hurried off. unfortunately, the bike that came closest to my desires turned out to be built for women (a nice Specialized Myka), so i didn't get anything. the used bikes range from $200 to $500, from old Schwins to contemporary "city" bikes; new bikes are $500+. they seem to all have been re-worked on to get them in good working condition. the used bikes prolly go through quick, so just get what ya like! also, they said they will buy back at 50% of the cost, which is a pretty awesome way to "rent" bikes long-term, especially for a used bike.
I recently moved to North Beach, SF and needed to commute to work via bike. When I realized my bike needed a major tune-up, Columbus Cyclery was the perfect place to bring it. They communicated the whole time they had my bike (less than 24 hours), and made sure I knew what they were doing to it and what they were charging for. It also was not as expensive as other places I looked at. I was very impressed and entered the raffle to win a free bike and won it! This raffle is no strings attached, all you have to do is take a picture for their website! When I went in to claim it, the entire staff was so friendly in walking me through everything I needed to know. They let me test ride a few bikes, and were very patient and helpful. It is a family business with a father and a son working there, and everyone should support this local business!
I was looking for a bike for atleast 3-4 months, i knew what kind i wanted but i didnt have the budget at the time. I was going through fb market place, online, and bike shops. I stumbled upon this shop online and started to look at pictures, i thought to myself, "this place is nice, they sell used and new bikes, they offer rentals, repairs, and more." I decided to go to their website to check for prices and what bikes they have in stock, while looking for bikes i saw their quarterly raffle and i decided to go for it. Fast forward, i got an email and text message stating that i won the raffle. I was surprised, i wasnt dreaming, i actually won. They are true to their word. This shop is awesome, employees are very kind. Prices are very reasonable. Thank you for your great service and for serving the community.
just bought a bike here :D i walked in with about medium knowledge for what i wanted in a bike (using my last bike, which i loved, as the model for what i wanted), and trusted a friend and the team here to help me figure out the rest. the team was super knowledgable and gave a lot of information about how different bikes would or would not work for me. what i enjoyed the most was that Bruno (the owner, i think) wanted to get me the best bike, and didn't try to "sell" me a bike. even when i would get awestruck by the beauty of a bike, he would advise me on why that bike didn't fit my other preferences. they also let you test ride the bikes, and will adjust the height of the bike so that you can really feel what it would be like riding it. definitely would recommend this shop to a friend!
I needed to rent a bike for the week and found the perfect situation at Columbus Cyclery. Bruno helped me pick out a gorgeous Diamondback road bike and included lights, a bike lock (u-lock and cable), and helmet in a very reasonable price. I spent the week commuting over the Golden Gate Bridge every morning and riding around the Marin Headlands in the afternoons-- the bike was in perfect condition. On the day I was supposed to return the bike, I wasn't going to make it back to town by the time the store closed. I talked with the manager on the phone and they offered to pick it up on a Saturday from the hotel that I was staying. Definitely recommend Columbus Cyclery!
Came here looking for a bike this weekend due to all the rave reviews. The sales guy that we had (don't remember the name) seemed barely awake and not very communicative. I told him the bike size I was generally interested in and although we said we weren't interested in a particular bike and were more interested in another bike, he had me go ride it anyway (communication issues I think). At any rate, he didn't seem really eager to help and I wasn't really impressed with any of the bikes. I honestly didn't think the prices were that great either - $350-500 for most of the very vintage road bikes we looked at. I left generally unimpressed.
The overall experience of shopping for a bike was very comfortable. The staff is very knowledgeable and extremely patient with answering questions and providing a lot of test rides. There are 3 floors of bikes in the shop and the offerings are an abundance of bike choices ranging between different kinds, colors and sizes. They were also extremely generous to swap out the bike seat and pedals to my liking. Additionally, they offered plenty of helpful tips so that I could choose the perfect bike for me. If you’re for affordable bikes and kind service. This is the spot to go to!
After living in Asia for many years I came in to Columbus Cyclery a to research my first American bike in 15 years. It’s a whole different scene here in the US. There’s an overwhelming number of options and variations. The staff was super helpful in sorting out options. And helping me understand what bike would suit me best. I wasn’t able to buy a bike that day but signed up for their bike give away. And I won! Thank you Columbus Cyclery for your generosity of knowledge and allowing me to have a nicer bike than I’d ever be able to afford on my own.
Great Experience. I bought a Kona mountain bike there earlier this year and it worked out perfect for me. Plenty of bikes to look at and try. 3 store levels ! I also got my u-lock, lights and helmets on the spot at a discount. Then I had to move to Hawaii for a new job and decided to take my bike along. I went back to Columbus Cyclery and in 24 hours, they had my bike disassembled and neatly packed in a box. I flew with it as extra luggage, put it back together, and I now enjoy riding it in Hawaii. Very good experience for me.
Excellent customer service. I went in to rent a road bike and was helped immediately. I had a nalgene water bottle with me which didn't fit the water bottle holders on the bike, so one of the associates found an alternative holder that fit and installed it in seconds, free of charge. They also let me leave my backpack in the store while I was out. Upon returning the rental, I was again assisted immediately, and charged for 2 hours, though I'm fairly certain I had the bike for at least 3. Awesome store, would highly recommend!
Had a great visit to this bike shop. Knowledgeable staff were happy to help and advise but no hard pressure sales tactics like some other shops. I was encouraged to test ride anything I was interested in. I spent some time there but didn't purchase on this visit. I will be back though. Getting a bike from an actual bike shop, that is set up, adjusted and mechanically checked out, is so critical to safety and enjoying the whole biking experience. This was a top shelf experience and I've been to bike shops all over the country.
I went to Columbus Cyclery on a Saturday to buy a used bike for commuting and the occasional fun-ride, and had a great experience. Tai was extremely helpful and patiently helped me sort through road and hybrid options. They have a good stock of used options even for popular sizes like mine (56). Be sure to check the stock upstairs as well. Their prices are very reasonable for both new and used. 30 day warranty covers parts and labor for used purchases, and they'll buy back any purchase at half price within two years.
I traded in a week old $99 bike for a bike in well-used condition which costs $450 new, ( I found out later), and I paid nearly $300. They replaced a cracked tire before I left the shop, thanks fellas, but when I drew attention to a worn- out chain they said it was ok. Another shop later showed me the chain wear was outside the scope of their measuring tool. These guys are ok..but they took advantage of my ignorance. I shouldn't have trusted the fairness of the price I paid. My bad. Just hurting a little.
Wow ! This place deserves 5 stars. Brought my daughter there to grab a used bike as she’s moving To San Francisco without her car for college and work . Bruno and his staff were so friendly and caring and made sure we had everything we needed! And prices were very fair and reasonable! They even delivered it to us just a few hours later ! I will recommend to everyone. They will even buy it back for up to 1/2 price within 18 months if she moves or would like to upgrade. thank you Bruno
Kathy is not my real name, just using this email sometimes. I just wanted to say that I have never met such an honest bicycle shop owner. To bad I have not discovered this place sooner. I think most other bike shops totally take advantage of people and this owner is so so nice & honest. He takes the time to explain things and I never felt rushed. Forget the other bike shops and come here for excellent service. The owner is really the best I have ever met.
My friend and I rented bikes for the day for $25 each (a little bit more with tax). It was a simple process, and the owner was really nice and helpful. His shop is open until 7pm, so you have plenty of time to get the bike back. The bikes were very comfortable, with 24 speeds (3/8). In retrospect, I probably should have gotten an electric bike, because all the hills left me exhausted by the end of the day, but I was still very satisfied.
This place is awesome. Excellent customer service and very respectful of social distancing and safety precautions in the store. There is a large selection of used bikes in excellent condition. I bought a used bike and left my old bike with them to consign. Within a week they had sold it at a higher price than I even expected. The owner personally dropped off my check for me. Can't recommend this place enough.
I bought my bike here 5months ago and today we bought one for my husband. They are very friendly and have a good selection of decent used and new bikes too even if you are on a budget. No point to bother with Craigslist, you can be sure u buy legit here and they also offer guarantee even for their used bikes!I've recieved good customer service on both visit and not pushy sales. Can highly reccomend it!
These guys did a great job with setting up my new bike. It was shipped to them from the folks at Brooklyn Bicycle Co. They got this riding nicer than any bike I’ve owned before and the setup fees were very reasonable. They also helped me about a week after I left the shop when I got new grips. Same day, helped me swap the two out since I didn’t have solution to get the old ones free. Great people!
This shop buys stolen bikes! A friend of mine had their bike stolen, and found it at Columbus Cyclery. The shop won't return the bike unless there is an exact serial number match. The friend has the receipt but the bike shop they bought it from went out of business during COVID. Pretty suspect that a bike shop is buying stolen bikes and reselling them. Take your business to a more reputable shop.
They didn't tell me that it was going to cost an extra $20 for labor to replace a brake pad (5 mins of work). Then they tried to charge me for it and when I said no, they said they would put my old one back on but just fished some random one out of the trash and said that's what they are going to put on. Had previously had a good experience here but I'm really disappointed by this experience
Lovely staff, very knowledgeable. Nice bikes and good variety of them; they also offer helmets but always better to bring your own. The location of the store is very convenient and the prices are fair. The customer service is good and quick and efficient. The store could be a bit cleaner, better organised but it has everything you need and the bikes are perfect; I highly recommend it.
My dad and I just bought his bike from here! Inside the store is a bit dark coz of the bordered windows. They have alot of bikes to choose from. Cristian, who assisted us is very good and the bike technician and manager as well! They are accommodating! The bike we bought so far is holding up to it's brand (Specialized). All in all a good place to find good bikes!
This is review about SELLING my trek lexa to Columbus Cyclery. Bruno and I got in touch over an email and thanks to him I could sell my bike within 24hrs. The shop is great and I saw a variety of hybrid bikes there. The staff was very polite and made it quick and easier for me to sell. All the bikes seem in great condition and are available for sell/rental.
I recently moved to the area and I needed a bike. I came accross Go Bike It by chance and never regretted it. The bike I bought was very well serviced and runs true and smooth. They even give a 30 day warranty if you buy a used bike. They now what they are doing and I'm happy to have found a place where I could bring my bike should it need to be serviced.
I've taken several bikes there a number of times for repairs. They are always very honest with me about what needs to be done and have it fixed ahead of schedule. They also hustle to assess your bike as soon as you arrive even if they are busy. I can't stress how much their honesty matters in choosing to go back there whenever I need something fixed.
The guy who attended to me had a very arrogant attitude and talked down to me. This happened multiple times as I had to take the bike back to the shop to have it fixed. Each time he spoke down to me telling me that I must have crashed the bike, ridden into to train tracks etc. This was in response to me asking him what they had fixed about the bike.
Great shop, reasonable prices, knowledgeable sales and service team. Conveniently located across the street from the North Beach Joe DiMaggio playground and tennis courts. I just needed a bike helmet to get around safely on the scooters and Lyft/Bay Wheels bikes. The staff was helpful and friendly, but not pushy. A true neighborhood bike shop!
This bike shop is truly amazing! I was the lucky winner of a bike this past week ago, which was absoutley perfect! The bike selection was amazing and Bruno was very helpful with what to look for in a bike. He was very knowledgeable about all things bike. I would def. recommend this shop to family and friends. I had such an amazing experiance!
Great Selection of used and new bikes. Bruno and Christian are extremely knowledgeable and polite and helped me with all my questions and needs before I picked the best bike for me. I had nothing but the best experience here. Highly recommending Columbus Cyclery to anyone interested in getting a bike or just going for a tune up.A+
Had a nasty dropped chain on my bike, and I made things worse and screwed up my derailleur trying to fix it myself. Brought it in to Columbus Cyclery and they were able to sort me out quickly and for far less than i thought it was going to cost me! Couldn't reccomend these guys more. If you need repairs, this is the spot.
I needed a new bike for my commute and decided to check this place out. I'm glad I did. The salesperson was extremely helpful and down-to-earth. I did not feel pressured or condescended to, even though I am not very knowledgeable about bikes. I ended up with one I really love and I can't wait to explore the city on it.
I got an issue with my shoes while biking on a Sunday. I stopped there and they immediately helped me without to take advantage of me financially (and they could have since I had no other solution and had to continue). Very great service, I will come back there if I have any issue with my bike while riding in the city.
Stopped in to pick up a bike and the guys at the store were super helpful and had adapted to the new normal with social distancing. Temperature was taken before entering and limited number of people were allowed in. It all felt very safe and overall a great visit. Will be returning for future cycling needs!
LOVE this place!!! I entered in a contest for a bike and I was so pleasantly surprised to have won! Thank you for having this program, so happy about my new bike. Bruno was so kind, hilarious, and wonderful to work with. Can't say enough great things! I will be returning for all my bike needs. :)
I had a wonderful experience at Columbus Cyclery! I was the winner of their bike giveaway and they were patient, informative, friendly and responsive. They delivered the bike to me the same day, and had the bike completely set up with lights, lock, etc. Shop local - go to Columbus Cyclery!
Fantastic must do guided cycle trip across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, TIP book your return by ferry in advance at info kiosk to avoid the massive bike queue for the ferry. Thank you Richard you were great guide, bikes were all in good condition and efficiently organised.
Super quick turnaround on a tuneup and really went over every inch of the bike. Bike looks and feels much better and all the little extra attention will make me a customer as long as I’m in SF. Nice selection of used bikes too if you are in the market and can’t find anything.
I had service done 2 times here before. One was through a Groupon tune-up service and another was general service where I had to fix my tire, my crank, and some major tune-up work. The staff here is knowledgeable and took care of my bike and came back well adjusted.
They let me trade in my bike for more than I ever would have expected and set me up with some new wheels. The guys working there were extremely helpful, even in the middle of a really busy work day. I highly suggest going to them for your next used or new bike!
Bought my first bike when I arrived in SF 2 years ago and always go back here for rentals when guests are in town as well as repairs to my bike. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The rental bikes are well-maintained and good quality. Highly recommend.
They spam craigslist with decently priced used bikes, but when you visit them in store, none of them are there. Instead, they try to push you towards overpriced used bikes. Was told a bike was a steal even though I could have paid 10% more to get the bike new.
The best bike buying experience ever. I got a hybrid used bike that it looks like brand new with just 2 scratches. Best price ever and very nice guys working at the shop. I strongly suggest to stop by even just for rental or for a tune up! Thank you so much!
Sold me a part that was incompatible with my bike but was eventually refunded. Could have been bad if I hadn't checked. Also have gotten different answers on the same thing from different people. Their response about covid has nothing to do with me - sus
I’m happy to report a very good experience. Over the years I’ve been to several shops in SF and this is my first time moved to say a resounding YES for Columbus Bike Shop. They are people who love people, and are the luckiest people in the world( :
Found them through Craigslist Ad and called in to check what bikes they had in stock. Had a great experience with the owner and staff. Was able to find a deeply discounted set of bikes that were hardly used. I recommend you check them out!
Whether you know or you haven't decided what kind of bike you're looking for, this is the place where you'll find your answers. Bruno, Christian and the rest of the staff are very knowledgeable and always ready to help! Highly recommend!
"A few weeks ago I bought a Pure single Speed bike at this shop with a U-lock. The bike has been great and I enjoy it. Today, someone tried to steal the handlebar I guess, since the front part of the stem was gone... Fortunately, the
Great friendly and efficient customer service!!! Got my Alcatraz tickets in no time plus all relevant maps and info related to Pier 33 departures. Remember that in general the Alcatraz ones are not sold “on their own”. They are
Bruno and everyone at Columbus Cyclery were extremely kind in picking me as their winner for a free bike. The bike I chose was used, but looked like new and was great too ride. Their shop provides great bike servicing as well.
Bruno helped my friend choose a good quality bike for his price point. He also took the time to explain the ins and outs of the bike without any pressure to buy. His knowledge and commitment to providing value is top notch
Wonderful experience. Bruno and his staff were fantastic. During COVID-19 and Shelter in Place, bikes have been in high demand. I was so thrilled to be able to get a beautiful bike from Columbus Cyclery. Thank you!
Great selection of used and new bikes, helpful and friendly staff, fast service. -- A year later and the used bike I bought from this store is still running fine w/o major headaches. Really glad about the bike ;-)
Been going to these guys ever since I got my first bike with them 3 or 4 years back. They’re incredibly friendly and helpful. Prices are all very reasonable. I’m never going anywhere else for bikes or maintenance
Could not have been more happy with the service provided from Bruno at Columbus Cyclery. He was extremely helpful and thorough in helping me find exactly what I was looking for. Would highly recommend this place!
I bought a bike and sold it back to them after 3 months for half of its price, of course they charge you taxes but that is not paid back. Overpriced bikes, and terrible customer service. I wouldn’t recommend it.
cool bike shop, good customer service, good prices i dropped my bike off to get the tires replaced they called me back quick! if you need a bike, parts or repair i recommend it 100% ill be going back for sure!
Amazing bike rental/shop/repair, all in one. I bought myself buy back offer here and I'm very satisfied with bike and the price. Abel is so fast and kind repairing my bike few times ! All recommendations.
Great service, and a nice selection of second hand bikes for a very reasonable price. Also they have a policy of buying back the bikes for half what you gave, which is very useful for short-term visitors.
Bruno was incredibly helpful when I was buying my bike. I knew almost nothing about bikes going into the store, but Bruno walked me through the different types of road bikes and guided me to a great bike
they sell stolen bikes on consignment. extremely rude when we brought in evidence of our stolen bike and dismissed us entirely. please do not support a business that profits from crime in san francisco.
Great experience renting a road bike from here for a day! They made it so easy and comfortable to rent a bike. For a new cyclist, they were extra helpful and informative. Would highly recommend!
Simply the best cyclery in San Francisco! If you want to bring your bike to a place where people care about your problem, that's definitely the place. Very attentive staff and great service!
Highly recommended. I took our tandem there for some work and Abel was quick and very thorough. He repaired rather than replace where possible, saving us money. Pricing is very reasonable.
Excellent, fast work. Terrific tune up & brake replacement at a fair price. Have also been here many times for flat repairs ... the guys always help out to get me back on the road quickly.
These guys are shady and buy stolen bikes. Neighbor's bike was stolen last week and not but a couple days later was it for sale in this shop. Don't feed the thieves, avoid this shop
Columbus cyclery is awesome. By the grace of God I happened to win a bike in their quarterly giveaway. Bruno and his team were very accommodating and now I'm ready to hit the road!
This place is great. Their inventory is a great mix of new and used bikes of all styles and sizes. They have bike accessories as well. Custom service is perfect and knowledgeable
Owner is very rude and ignorant. Have NO knowledge about the bikes. Total scammers on Craigslist . There is no price list try to charge whatever he wants!! Do NOT recommend !!!!
I brought my bike to Columbus Cyclery for a tune up and they had it fully ready to go in less than 24 hours. They were very kind and professional and I will be back soon!
Nice shop it’s cool to be able to sell your bike to them and buy new or used I dig it. I sold a couple bikes a few years back to them. The Owner was a nice guy. 5 stars
Abel was super knowledgeable about general bike maintenance as well as history! Super friendly! Prices were reasonable and support a local bike shop! Great experience!
Came in with a flat when I got my tire punctured with a staple. Service was prompt, and for a good price. Replaced my inner tube fairly quickly and had me on my way.
Always try to accommodate my recumbent trike work. Competent and gracious! I wish parking would be easier, but it's still worth it to drive from Pacifica!
Bruno, you are AWESOME. My son loves his new bike. Thank you so much for taking your time, teaching, showing and providing incredible customer service.
Solid classic SF bike shop, courteous, good repair, very fair and reasonable pricing, not snobby and willing to explain things. Appreciate it!
The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. They have a lot of patience with an old geezer like me. The place is very organized and clean.
This store has a great bike rental system, with flexible return hours. It’s also a nice place to buy a preowned bike for a good pric
They were very helpful! We were looking for good used bike for a bike touring trip and they set us up very well at good price.
I got my dream mountain bike for pennies on the dollar and they even bought my old bike. Great knowledge from all employees.
Great place they are consistently busy. Seen them rebuilding bikes from the 80s, real pros keep up the quality
One of the best bike shops I've been to. They are extremely helpful and their pricing is reasonable.
Great affordable cycles to hire. If you work for airlines there could be discounts so ask away!
Great place to rent a bike in the San Francisco area at some of the best prices available.
Got some really nice road bikes for a day trip. Great service and cool people ✨ …
Great bike shop. Fair prices and nice people. Very transparent and diligent.
They were super helpful and generous enough to offer raffles for free bikes
