We started going to church here about a year and a half ago. We were having a hard time finding a church that felt like "ours" and we're about to give up. We're in our 20s with two young children (my son was just 9 weeks old on our first visit) and this church has been incredible for us. Community Christian does a great job of reconciling our inclusive, progressive Christian beliefs with a more traditional service. The messages challange me to really think about my beliefs and work on growing. More than that, it's an amazing place for kids and parents. The children are all very close with one another and play regularly, both in and out of church (my kids can't wait to go and never want to leave) and us parents (and the non-parents too) are a huge source of friendship and support for one another. We've found a second family and a meaningful community here.
During my 5 years in KC area, I've attended at CCC many presentations & meetings addressing community, city-wide & national urgent needs for citizens to ponder, discuss & act--also a few services, in my search for a right fit. I began this past Covid year attending 4: a Lutheran, Unitarian, UCC, & this one, with occasional forays to others. All are spirit-filled, genuine, caring & have generous ministries to those in need. However, I realized Community Christian Church is the smartest, funniest, down-to-earth. The pastors are complex thinkers, good storytellers, connect scripture w current real-life experience, not afraid to engage with unsolved dilemmas or solvable but challenging situations. Their leadership is truly shared, including with the young!
I’ve been at this church for over 18 years and have watched it get better and better. If you want a church that doesn’t require you to check your brain at the door, you should try this one. All are welcome and All means All. The ministers are excellent, the staff is skilled and the congregation is warm and welcoming. We have started seeing more young families and the kids in the church are great fun. The architecture is classic Frank Lloyd Wright, which is to say, kinda stark. Don’t let that put you off, the congregation will make you comfortable. There is a good thing going on here. BTW - I don’t understand people who leave a one star rating and don’t say one word why.
Words matter. And we struggle to find ones to define ourselves. Here's our current draft: "We are called to grow as an inclusive community of independent, thinking Christians willing to be challenged by the Gospel and by each other. As Disciples of Christ, we strive to live out our identity as 'a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.' We are committed to our core values of worshiping joyfully, celebrating the arts, and doing justice." I've been a member of The Community Christian Church for twelve years. Yes, the architecture is important, but what happens within our sacred space is more so.
My husband and I have called this our church home for the last 4 years and we feel so lucky to have them. We have seen the congregation grow in young adults and young families over the last few years and we honestly love having an intergenerational church family. This a community of people who show up for each other and who really mean it when they say All means ALL.
Warm congregation? Check Good worship music? Check Traditional service? Check Progressive views of inclusion? Check Sermons that challenge you? Check Honestly, this is the first church home where I have actually felt at home. If you really are interested in exploring Christ as he was and is, this is the place for you.
The new steeple is way too bright. I live two miles away. There's no reason my view of the night sky should be ruined by some church on the other side of town. Leave it to Christians to think that they're "bringing a beacon" of light into the city by destroying our night sky with light pollution. Tone it down.
I have been attending Community for nearly 20 years. It continues to offer fresh, progressive energy to make sense in an ever-confusing world. I appreciate the inclusive atmosphere, the commitment to social justice, and the inspiring worship services. It is a big part of my life.
This is such a wonderful and caring congregation. I've been a member for 25 years and each year it gets better. There are good programs for children, a focus on social justice, and amazing music and arts to feed the soul in other ways. I can't imagine attending anywhere else.
We were only here for the Winter Storm pipes and drums concert. As a venue, it is lack luster. A large event like this stretches the facilities to the limits. The bathrooms cannot handle a full house. The seats are cramped and old. However, there is ample parking nearby.
I went there several times and didn't feel very welcomed. The services weren't what I was looking for either. Maybe it's just not the best fit for younger church goers. I've started going to The Cause now, and find it to be a much more dynamic church for my age group.
The light is unnecessary and is a bit arrogant. Doesn’t really show respect to community or set a good example.
This place is pure love....and it’s home. ❤️ Everything I need—or didn’t even know I needed. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love this place. I only went a couple of times and knew this is the place I wanted to be at
Did not feel like I was treated like a person here. Just simply a number.
