I have had such a hard time with my religious identity since making Aliyah and then being forced to move to Manhattan. It just isn't the same as it was here. I used to play music at Ahavath Sholom and Rabbi Paris would make sure we were paid before the gig so no Laws were broken. In Manhattan the Rabbi said he would pay and then never did. They borrowed my PA and never paid. They basically just used me as a slave and made me as bitter as the herb. At Ahavath Sholom Rabbi Bloom treated everyone as an equal whether or not they were Jewish or black or white. In Israeli they told me real Jews had specific genetics which were mostly inbred and diseased then they split the community. I couldn't deal with that ideology. It got into my head and now I am doing research to discredit modern eugenic theories at the National Holocaust Museum and other experts because it is that. And it sundered my religion but not my faith. I still believe in one G-D, one soul, one body, one life, one race, just one. It is a Unity. I know this because of Congregations like this one who are honest and truly read from the Torah rather than treated it as a sales pitch to funnel donations and membership payments from poor and old people into some tax shelter in Israel. But my religion, my community, I don't know anymore because of where I am. All I can say from all I have experienced as a person of this faith is that it is places like this that are worth search for and Rabbis like Paris and Bloom who are worth remembering. There are places like this which give me hope of being redeemed and returned to something I actually prayed for.
I’ve been a member of Ahavat Shalom for a few years (moves to Shanghai) and I can say that it was like family to me. I love the People and the great things this congregation is doing for the community. The Rabbi (Rabbi Bloom) is a well of knowledge and have non stop ideas of how to do great things for the congregation and the city of Fort Worth. Conservative community so it may not fit everyone ,I loved my time there.
Right next door to Beth-El, Congregation Ahavath Sholom is another great option for those leaning more conservative. Camp Shalom is a wonderful event that I participated in as a kid, and the sanctuary is gorgeous. They play host to many big, community-wide events and should be worth a look!
Elizabeth Martinez Johnson got her 1st job at Zwyeics landscaping. I think preschool helped. Happy birthday to trees!
