Unfortunately, our recent experience at the Greek Consulate was far from satisfactory. We travelled 4 hours to Tampa for this appointment and all we received was disrespect. Despite diligently preparing all the documents as listed on their official website, we were told that we lacked a specific document which wasn’t mentioned online. When we tried to clarify this oversight, we were met with an unexpected and unprofessional response from an employee claiming to be the officer of the consulate. Not only were we not given a chance to explain our situation, but the employee also yelled and made personal remarks, making us feel as if we were the ones being disrespectful. It felt as though she was using her position as leverage, rather than assisting us as patrons of the consulate. We were told our visa would be rejected that very day. When we tried to understand the reason behind her lack of cooperation, she cited disliking our tone, despite us maintaining a respectful demeanor throughout. We hope others don’t experience such unprofessionalism, and that the consulate reviews its online guidelines to ensure they’re accurate and comprehensive.

A few years ago I tried to apply for citizenship at the Tampa consulate. The lady running the office back then did her best to obstruct and misinform to keep me running in circles. I eventually got frustrated and gave up, which was her goal. It should have been easy for me, having been born in Athens with both my parents living there in retirement. It was not. After looking at recent Google reviews, I could tell something must have changed in the office. Every 5 star review mentions a lady named Nancy. So I immediately called the consulate and who answers? Nancy! I phoned to get some general information, which Nancy happily provided, but then she went further and asked me for specific information so she could search my family information in Greece. It took a little time but she found what we were looking for. Citizenship is a long process, so I will update this review once I am Greek on paper and not just in my mind.

The staff is very friendly, detail oriented and thorough. I had a great experience working with them. They went above and beyond in their service and explanations of the Greek laws, and they prepared me well for my appointment. They took their time making sure that all of my documents were in order. Whatever wasn't in order, was corrected and thoroughly explained to the Greek authorities. Since I flew in for only one day, all of my requests and needs were addressed by different staff members. I called the Tampa office to ask about getting my children registered in Greece to make any inheritance's they get in the future an easier process for them. Nancy Liristis answered the phone and was very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. She took all the time needed to answer my questions as well as providing all the details I needed as she walked me through the process. I never once felt like she tried to rush me through. Nancy Liristis from the Greek Consulate did an amazing job helping my wife and I with questions we had related to passports and documents we needed to translate to Greek. She worked hard to provide answers to all of our questions and made sure to call us and get ahold of us to follow up on all pending items. Mrs. Nancy is absolutely hands down the most helpful and kindest person. She has taken time out her day to help my family members and I with an issue that is quite complicated to resolve. She really takes her time to explain and to understand each every one of our needs and our situation in order to help us with our issues. I contacted the office since my parents were both born in Greece and I was born in the US and would like to become a Greek Citizen and obtain a Greek Passport. Nancy Liristis is extremely helpful! She has always gone over and above to assist me and my family. She is extremely knowledgeable and has always taken the time to explain things in detail. If she doesn't know how to answer my questions, she has researched and has gone out of her way to reach me to provide me with an answer. I am very thankful for her service!
